bitcoin or altcoin

yeah..tricky question since nov of 2014 I've been mining LTC to BTC mainly..it has worked well

BUT I took a chance last year and got 1 BTC (at around $450 usd price) and got the POS coin LISK..which at like 3.50 now

is worth 23K to me as we speak.

Gets a guy thinking.

I also got a baikal 300mh cube for giggles at $825 2 months ago .mines DASH ..which I also kept and not to BTC ...it has

made 940 usd and ROI'd

So it is a tricky view

I do have a pretty good bitcoin hoard...I can always switch above stuff to BTC if it gets dire with the alt coins

but thinking stuff I'm mining now with equip that ROI'd above what I got in the hoard ..I should probably spread it around some

but again.....have enough BTC that if it goes to 5k I can easily retire

thus can afford to be 'stupid' with alts if that is how it turns out

anyway my 2 satoshi's worth

4382  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Launching the Antminer L3+, World's Most Powerful and Efficient Litecoin Miner on: June 12, 2017, 06:42:47 AM
I doubt it.
But it is possible to set a barrier price. This may be $4000, for example. This is possible because the LTC price has increased, the difficulty has recently decreased and will result in delivery equipment for September will soon disappear.

yes..hashnet will only reflect a price that bitmain is willing to pull a miner out of their data hall for..thus it is gonna be even more spendy imho with the LTC price pump

Never have a problem cashing out from mining on coinbase...so not sure wtf you are talking about....and it is usually in 5,000 usd chunks

just saying.....

If you recently mined them, they probably can never be traced to online gambling sites or questionable tor markets. So they wouldn't have any excuse to hold you up, probably.

hmmm.....I'm in the USA that may make a diff...anyway...just saying....they are mined LTC to BTC so the BTC address is in use...

but really , had no idea coinbase has a 'blacklist' on coin coming from gambling sites or whatever?

anyway, this is my experience.....just tossing it out there...I've no issues

4385  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [GBYTE] Byteball Speculation on: June 10, 2017, 11:03:20 AM
It is really that easy. I missed the inital distribution... with 100BTC, that would have been a nice profit without doing anything (except signing a few messages with your hardware wallet).

Only annoying thing is I like my paper wallets being virgin...with a micro transaction every month or so from what I can gather to get byteballs it will be annoying

I liked my virgin paper wallets...no way to spend money if they are locked away in a safety deposit box....

Ack! Greed....up to this point was not to excited on playing rotating proofs with my stash for byteballs etc etc

Again will do more research..this is just my impressions off the top of my head

4386  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Launching the Antminer L3+, World's Most Powerful and Efficient Litecoin Miner on: June 10, 2017, 10:59:32 AM
So looks like LTC1BTC's data center caught fire....over 2TH of hashrate has disappeared....

Yeah I was wondering why the Network Rate is so horrible? Why its about to drop 20%?

yeah....I just sit on my hands..everyone runs to a multipool and mines ....I wait 3.5 days and the difficulty drop comes and I make it on the other side on

www.litecoinpool.org

I suppose I could multipool and then move back etc and make more..but at a 3.5 day difficulty adjustment.....I guess I'm too lazy.

Anyway ..how I roll Smiley

4387  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [GBYTE] Byteball Speculation on: June 10, 2017, 10:56:04 AM
hmm...confused as hell how this works....lurking

I have 100 btc.....assuming I dig out the paper wallets to do this .jump thru the hoops and prove such..what is the current price.....my figures can't be right it is like 5,200 usd or some such Huh is what I get?

I suppose dragging out the paper wallets...risking them on a machine..firing up bitcoin QT...doing a private message with public key ..then leaving them on same address to get

byteballs makes sense....but again my price can't be right? and/or is there a limit on how much you can cash out? or something?

flabergasted if my numbers are correct ..in that there is not more HYPE on this if that is the result on bitcointalk or elsewhere

anyway any threads I should go to please lead the way ...befuddled on how this works

later

brad

(be nice if $$$ would fall from the air on this..but not quite buying it yet ...anyone?)

Yep that's it, your numbers are right if we consider the price of 1 GB to be 0.3 BTC. There's no limit on the balance you can link, and since round 2, 1 BTC will give you 0.0625 GB so your 100 BTC will give you 6.25 GB (and blackbytes), and by the way the BTC only has to be on the linked address at snapshot time (and for a few hours after that, just in case). The main thread is https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1608859.

Ok...thanks...weird....I've not heard more talk on this....I assume when I get around to it I can link more then one wallet in some manner?
ALSO I assume you this 'snapshot' can be done any time before the next airdrop?

Guess I'll have to research this more...we are talking real $$$ here Smiley

Don't be fooled by drop in difficulty level.. .its bitmain playing games.. the units on Hashnest weren't selling at $3600 a piece when they launched it they only sold like 10 units 1 day.

I think so they panicked and took some inhouse machine offline so people would see better ROI temporarily and once all the Hashnest units will be sold out watch how the Network Rate spikes to 9TH/s.

Very clever games Bitmain!!! Touche...

Yeah...I'm already preparing at BEST for the mental anguish of 1/2 of my mining profits going almost poof immediately in July. Smiley

This is how home mining died for bitcoin in summer of 2014....blamo.....too much equip .....bitmain will own pow scrypt hostage too it seems soon

I suppose the next step is to play the same game with x11 miners in the future. (ducks.....hey...it is not like they have not thought of this too ..don't ya know) Smiley

It is kinda interesting to see what I thought april 1st at 6 buck ltc .would take 10-11 months .probably be all wrapped up in bitmain's favor in like 4-5 months

they are so gonna own pow scrypt and lock out anyone even thinking about making a machine....by Dec getting a Bitmain L3+ will make about as much

sense as getting a T9 Bitcoin miner now.....its bitmain its what they do.....toasters...kicking them out like toasters Sad

SEaring can you recommend some one who can host 1 L3+ for me?

the guy at http://www.btcmeqc.com/ are not responding

Contact maxumark on here he can set you up. (Or at least ask the guy directly at the data hall)

We both have our equip there. I'll try calling maxumark but pm details of your stuff to him etc also.

Anyone else in the same boat do the same

4390  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Dear Bitcointalk Community, please change your perspective about Bitcoin! on: June 07, 2017, 07:59:52 AM
I'm writing this post because I see it everywhere on this forum. People who just talk about Bitcoin pump(s), $ price, € price and so on... even most legendary members do it!

I think most Bitcoin users miss what Bitcoin really is and what Satoshi wanted it to be.
If you read the white paper, there's no mention about Bitcoin as a digital asset. Satoshi just wanted to create a payment system, a strong one and much better than the traditional ones.

But right now, Bitcoin is mainly considered as a digital asset, digital gold, just an investment tool to make (quick) profit. That's wrong, in my opinion.

I think Bitcoin users are raping Satoshi's original view, thinking only about BTC's value on exchanges.

What most don't understand is that Satoshi gave us a huge power. The power to destroy and make disappear forever the whole old banking system, other online payment systems like paypal and maybe governments too. Forever.

He gave us the power to decentralize everything using the blockchain technology. In short, Satoshi gave us the power the change the world for the better.

So why are you focusing only on Bitcoin's price on exchanges?

Imagine this.

A world where you can send money anywhere and to anyone in the world, instantly and with low fees.
A world where you can buy anything using Bitcoin, from coffees to yatchs.
A world where you can get all the privacy you want.
A world without banks.
A world without old currencies, that only create inflation.
A world where you pay only the taxes you wanna pay and not what you are forced to pay.

I think Satoshi's original view was very revolutionary.
A decentralized payment system and a deflationary currency. A real digital cash.

But now, Bitcoin has becomed just a digital asset. Maybe a toy for rich people to get even richer.
What's so revolutionary about it? The world is already full of assets and investment tool...

In short, Bitcoin lost most of its revolutionary appeal.

I strongly suggest you to change your consideration about Bitcoin. Now it's time to choose, because what we - as a community - decide now will influence all the future history of Bitcoin.

So, what do you prefer? A brick of gold or a better world?

we are still at the stage we want the world to LIKE US as the new kid in town...the price of BTC gives us hope that maybe what you state above can happen

but we are a little bit skittish yet...I assume if bitcoin hits 10k and has more use ..things will go as you state...as of now we are in the WTH stage of awe

and BTC price going up ...is a reflection of adoption and holding.....thus security at least for those of us holding bitcoin  Smiley

4391  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: June 07, 2017, 07:44:55 AM
We'll see the bull keep going until later next week and then likely a major dump. However, we'll see 5 digits by Feb 2018 w/ a major breakout coming in 2019. That's right I said it.

That is the question. I have 100 btc and nothing in anymore but time/hobby/labor....I mined my way into the 100 btc being all profit...thus how the hell can I even think
about selling....triumph or tulips at this point in time for me.

But the question is again how high will it go....if it goes to say 6k drops to 3k and recovers....slowly say 4-5 months of sideways..then repeats

I expect a 'staircase' kind of climb...right now it looks like a high speed escalator at WTH speed Smiley

but anyway ...there will be a correction dump or whatever you want to call it...but damn from how high to how far a correction will it be

and IF it is all about adoption..it may NOT stop rising for a few months yet depending on demand

anyway the pucker factor to sell will be immense when if it hits 5,000 usd btc imho.....shit got real Smiley

But again...say it dumps back to 2k ....well hell it was $450 usd last July 2016 or so right? ......the real question is does btc and crypto have legs to NOT

drop below 2k anymore etc etc.....if so that means it must be a combo of 'adoption' and 'holding' of a pretty substantial scale imho...more so if it pumps to 5k eventually

anyway, out of my hands ..just have to ride this sled down the hill ....exciting times

A case could be made for me selling out now..but I'd feel ok at 1k btc again vs 5k btc if I jumped out now....such is the bet..such are folks choices

It's not all or nothing, Searing.  Intuitively, you seem to know that, even though you are spouting out about selling just in case prices go to $1k... hahahaha  Cheesy

I have seen before that you seem to like this number 100BTC and you seem to want to maintain your holdings at that, even when you sell some you want to get them back, and there is nothing wrong with that - except you seem a little bit nervous about holding that much and how much actual dollars it represents (and of course profits), and in that regard, maybe you should take some profits.  Maybe, you could take 5 BTC off the table or or 10btc or a greater amount or a smaller amount.  You do not have to bet the whole lot.

Even taking 1 BTC off the lot for every $200 rise, would still leave you with nearly 90BTC if we were to reach $5k, but sounds to me that you would like to take a bit more off the table, even though you like that 100BTC number.

Go on, tweak the number in order that you feel more comfortable and plan for the rise.  At least make an outline of a plan that is comfortable for you and that you can live with either way.

I'm at about 91% BTC in my BTC investment fund, and I am pretty comfortable with that at these prices - however, if prices shoot up to $5k, I will probably be around 85% - but that still can leave me in a kind of quandary about whether I believe my cash is working hard enough.  Yeah, of course, if the price drops, you wish that you would have sold more and if the price goes up, you wished you would not have sold so much.  You are never going to get around that dilemma, so you gotta just embrace whatever plan you make and just tweak it on the edges, rather than taking drastic steps.

yeah I agree....100 btc was pretty much unobtainable for me from like 2013 to 2016 from LTC mining. I used to sign my posts "my never to ROI $10,131.80 KNC Titan miner" (boy was I wrong) in 2014.

all this was mostly due to luck etc...so yeah 100 btc is my hoard comfort level....so if it goes to 1k I'll hold at 100 btc free and clear of any real $$$ in that hoard is all profit...at 3k I'll hold too

at 5k each or $500k usd I'll probably fold like an accordion in that 1 year and 1 day will be past for all of it and no more 40% capital gains on the last of it...and it shall mock me to pay

the IRS 20% capital gains and run amuck Smiley

I mean holy crap. 5k BTC at 100 btc..sheesh...got a btc woody just thinking about it Smiley

But I"m still mining 10k a month...so perhaps before all my equip goes doorstop by say Dec at worst....I can just muck around and play with that...esp if it hits 5K usd then when
they doorstop that is $50k to blow on stupid stuff and I can leave the 100 btc alone

there really is no wrong answer..its the lack of control.or to say (i've no idea i'm on a rocket..i don't know how safe the rocket is as it goes up...I don't know if the rocket
has a parachute...and everyone is telling me it will be all just dandy and enjoy the ride)

ahem..yeah the pucker factor is getting interesting to say the least

we will see if I have the balls to hold at 10k....(likely the sheer joy of such an event would kill me dead) ...but damn just a couple months ago they were saying it would be

nice if btc was more then gold....now it is double gold...heady times for a guy who got his first miner of BTC in 2013 to help those in micro lending and such in India as a draw

(hell, I thought it was like 'folding' I'd help with a crypto in crummy countries like India...and before it doorstopped pay my utils for 6-9 months...my goals were modest)

so anyway ....I just need to suck it up and be less of a cup cake...but I guess Satoshi is right...it is either gonna work well and be worth something or not at all and worth
nothing Smiley

Be careful what you wish for you may surely get it Smiley

TL;DR Seasteading will allow for the decentralizing of nations the same way Bitcoin decentralizes currency.
btc decentralises nation states - what is for example the USG without the US$? and what is the USA without the USG? Angry people with guns.
and boats. any ship or island when that shtf will be a sitting target for pirates.

Pirates sound scary!

Could even make a sport out of them...target practice.

lol well yes they weren't much of a match. point is pirates will seize bigger gvt assets

So you're basically saying that seasteads will be such a great thing that people will be clamoring to get to one.

Reminds me of the early days of Bitcoin when the Keynesians were saying that nobody will ever buy bitcoins because the value will keep rising.

The powers that be...nation states with the ships etc..will simply say that such endeavors are a hazard to international comerce and shipping and not allow them
that way imho.....IF such an endeavor was ever a true tax haven.....(can you say blockaide or worse)

I suppose it could be a 'niche' thing and ignored or tolerated..but doubtful if enough people use it as a tax haven (at least from usa irs point of view)

too many avenues to strangle this baby in the crib imho for it to really work at the scale folks want it to work

then again I drank the kool aid at one time and believed in BFL Miners ..so wth do I know Smiley

My thoughts specifically on what I think is going to happen or what I think of UASF?

Either...I've no clue in this cluster...just curious if it is gonna break the log jam in some manner for some real movement
or just die a slow death like the other options tossed around and being blocked by either party.

WE probably need a good dump in price back to 1k just to scare these dev whales of whatever flavor to suck it up and comprimise

I know I don't like it. The "optimized" GPUs are anything but. Only a 90 day warranty and, without display ports,
no secondary market. I wonder how they will  prevent gaming GPUs from being used for mining.
Eu laws force 2 year warranty so this never gonna happen

ah but only if you buy it in the EU ..had this happen to me...did not apply to USA Sad

(but then I'd have that pesky VAT)

Attempts were made to get them to work together but it was all in vain  Roll Eyes

Quite a shame it was all in vain, because there is a real possibility that these very same people will stand to lose more than just face. i can't believe you don't take profits. You haz balls. Or you're just crazy.

It is easier if you mined all your equip purchases back, as well as the btc remaining you
Have nothing in it. Indeed still mining ltc at 10k a month net. That too could all end for
Ltc scrypt-pow mining by dec. Indeed I almost sold equip in march at 1 btc per Titan at $4.15 ltc.

At $30 ltc now I'd be a crying.

So hell, ride it out. If the bubble dumps to 1k usd I'm still way ahead
Of last July at $450 btc.

The key is in my case I mined all my initial $$ back via equip purchases.

Thus imho it is easier to go for it vs someone with a $45k usd stake in
This and scratching head at triple profit.

Likely my view is just convuluted denial to hold. But seems to work
In my case.

If you cash your BC in a different country with no cap. gain tax, do you still need to report? If you buy a house with your BC, do you need to report the gain on the currency?

If USA citizen you always have to pay IRS capital gains and foreign income. Anyway
What I was told anyway. Sucks indeed.
