That's only 20K chips, actually not too bad. Probably under $200K, hopefully closer to $100K.

I find it a bit amusing that a MOQ would be something other than a part count (i.e. the Quantity part of MOQ). Stating it in terms of dollars, or hashrate, or some other item which is actually DERIVED from a quantity value just seems goofy (and confusing). Maybe this is by design?

For this example, I am guessing that sidehack assumed a 50GH/chip hashrate?

I can also confirm that the myminer.io website is NOT required. I never actually used it. I logged into my router to find the IP address that had been assigned. The other alternative is to use an IP "scanner" to scan you local network to find it.

myminer.io is strictly a convenience. No great loss in my opinion.

Thanks for your experience Herb. My only real complaint with my Avalon6 is that I have never had any real success in terms of "downclocking" it. I can easily adjust the Frequency down to 100 (from 500 nominal), but after a few hours, it's essentially back up to the original power, speed, and fan RPM.

A couple other questions:

1) I assume you just use the  "System --> Backup/Flash Firmware" tab to do so?

2) I see 3 files in the directory you pointed to on the website. I understand the md5sums file. Bu I don't know if the mm.bit or mm.mcs is the actual image to be flashed. How did you know which one to choose?

3) Have you ever tried reducing the Frequency and observed the effect several hours later?

I am not quite as optimistic as RichBC, but I too am hoping for no huge burst of hash rate in the next 5 days. Assuming no major pump, it's probably just down to variance. In any case, my guess:

-0.8 = alh

It's also quite possible we will end up rolling over again. There's lot's of empty spaces in negative territory. Here's what it looks like now:

Bitcoin Difficulty:    199,312,067,531
Estimated Next Difficulty:    196,981,872,449 (-1.17%)

446  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: 0.05 USD any chanse to mine ?? on: June 02, 2016, 06:28:07 PM
The place is ready for an bitcoin mine its running under aircondition, its an old warehouse i got permision to use . Used to be an factory so power is not an issue. Now my qustion is like stated is it proffitable to runn s7 as thats the gear i have. For start i have 8 of them, price is  at 0.05 cents on Kwh. Planning to upgrade to s9 but like the market and the cut of bitcoin to 12,5 i think s9 price will be lower then now . But then again the money s7 make will go on the new s9 . I would like to disclose where this location is but due to securty issues i dont feel safe telling where i am planning to set this up. hope you guys understand this. If i go aheed and do this il keep you guys updated whit pictuers and once securty is up i will tell where this new bitcoin mine will be .

Abit backgroun about me i started to mine BTC whit block erupter cube 1 year ago and fell in love whit it now i am trying to take this hobby to the nexst level. :=)

It seems to some extent that you've already made your choice. If you already own the 8 miners you mention, then you really only have two choices: Mine with them, or sell them. With a running cost of $.07/hour/miner, you will make an operating profit, even after the halving in the first half of July. They will depreciate as time goes on, and hence won't likely have the same resale value that they do today. You have to decide how much you think difficulty will rise, or fall, and the price of BTC in the future. $.05/KWh is a good start electricity wise, but it doesn't guarantee a long term profit.

What are you doing now with the S7's that you own?
447  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Bitmain New Miner S7-LN 2.7T @697W discussion (Not official) on: June 02, 2016, 06:02:33 PM
I'm a little confused.  If this is just 2 blades of a S7 with 90 chips (45 per blade compared to the 3 blades of a S7 with a total of 135 chips) and the chips are clocked at the same 700M, then shouldn't it be 3.15 TH/s (instead of the 2.7 TH/s)?  Or am I missing something here?  I see that the power usage is less than 2/3 (866W vs. 700w is about 81% of original), so the efficiency is corrected for the 2.7 TH/s to 0.25 J/GH.  Or do I have this wrong?

Also, when someone gets one, please post pics on how the PS bracket is attached to the S7 case?

I agree that something looks off. The website for this miner suggests that it's running at 700 MHz, then the figures don't work out right. It would be really attractive for somebody to get their hands on one and do a proper review. Maybe they got some overall power reduction in the fans, but that doesn't cover the hashrate and frequency discrepancy.
448  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [ANN] Spondoolies-Tech - carrier grade, data center ready mining rigs on: June 02, 2016, 05:57:58 PM
Can someone make a overview what happened to Spondoolies-Tech?

Are they Chapter 11?

From a strictly legal perspective, it's probably not accurate to use the term "Chapter 11". Spondoolies is an Israeli based company and I'd be stunned if their bankruptcy laws were strictly aligned with the US laws. Similar possibly, but unlikely to be in terms of such designations as "Chapter 11".

Looks like Phil's wish was granted. Bitmain has currently "Greyed Out" the S9 Buy button. No more sales for the moment it would appear. S7's are still available for those that are interested.

Projected difficulty is still negative, but it's had to think it will last for for 7 more days.
450  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Swedish ASIC miner company kncminer.com on: June 01, 2016, 04:29:38 PM

Uhhhhh for the S9, won't it be half that in the short term?
451  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Avalon ASIC users thread on: June 01, 2016, 06:24:19 AM
@Herb: For you, what was the "previous" version?

Is the process of changing the MM firmware pretty reliable and painless? I don't worry at all about the RPi stuff since I can always just put back a previous SD card, but have zero experience with changing the MM firmware.

Any caveats or warnings, besides the usual "Leave it alone if it's not broke"?
452  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Who thinks Bitcoin will HardFork back to GPU only mining Algorithms? on: May 31, 2016, 08:54:57 PM
Right now, it would appear that Bitmain doesn't expect this to happen. They are apparently "all in" on the SHA256 ASIC road (for good or for bad). I share that opinion as well.
453  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Is NOW the right time to be buying mining hardware? on: May 31, 2016, 08:48:39 PM
That would work also but in that case, if you buy 1 btc, it will never multiply. When you buy 2 antminer's s7 for example, they could produce 12 btc's per year (1 per month). Using the electricity money to buy directly bitcoins will bring less bitcoins and the purchasing process cannot be continuous unless you have unlimited money. It's just my opinion but we can get into technical details if it's needed Smiley

Cheers!

You do understand that if you buy TWO S7's today, have zero electricity cost, and difficulty doesn't increase, you'll earn less than .75 BTC over the next month. After that your BTC income halves since the BTC reward is cut in half from 25BTC/block down to 12.5. If you actually pay for electricity like most folks, you may well go negative in September-October timeframe (i.e. pay more for electricity than you earn).

The S9 release date of June 12 could be a real blow ti BitFury and BW.

Looks like you get about 3 weeks of hashing on the S9 before the halving.

I would love for them to do a small release say for 5 or 6 days then stop sales until after the 1/2 ing.

Just cause I am curious, why would you want a "limited Batch" with a two week sales suspension following?

More to the point though, why would Bitmain want that?
455  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: KnCMiner declares bankruptcy due to increased competition, upcoming halving on: May 31, 2016, 08:28:17 PM
You guys are aware this topic is about KnC and their bankruptcy right, and not some technical chit chat about their pin connectors and cables and stuff  Cheesy

While you are almost certainly correct, this thread with pins and all is a breath of fresh air compared to the "Spondoolies goes Under thread". No name calling, character insults, or generally rude behavior here. I didn't even know there was such a thing as an HCS ping!

456  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Is NOW the right time to be buying mining hardware? on: May 31, 2016, 06:32:03 PM
I would say that when thinking about mining, you should decide if you trust bitcoin enough. I see a lot of people are convinced that ROI depends on the electricity cost. That's not entirely true. Think about the leap that 1 BTC made since when it was $0.06 or even $1...
Basic math tells us that from the point when 1 BTC was $1, it grew 500 times (at the current price). If this happens again then 1 BTC could worth $200,000.

You'll say that this claim is ridiculous or outrageous but so did the people that bought 1 pizza for 10000 btcs a few years ago. I think that very soon bitcoin will become better than gold or cash because we can always find more gold or print more paper cash, but only a limited number of coins can exist (21,000,000). Therefore, the demand for bitcoin can potentially increase the price for 1 btc to $1,000,000 at some point. So to answer your question, now is the time for mining if you truly believe in bitcoin, and even if the electricity price will triple, you can still make a huge profit when the bitcoin price will rise through the roof.

Using this theory, couldn't you get most of the same benefit strictly by buying BTC and holding  it until it appreciates in value? Is there a specific reason that you have to mine, as opposed to purchasing, Bitcoin?
457  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Bitmain's Released Antminer S9, World's First 16nm Miner Ready to Order on: May 31, 2016, 06:15:16 PM
based on my assumptions of difficulty movement (primarly a ~30% drop within a few weeks of halving), seems like with free power ROI takes 5-6months.  With 0.07/kwh its closer to 10-12 months.

I can have one hosted at $0.06/kwh (+15% tax), and am likely to pull the trigger if it falls to 3.5BTC via BTCUSD price swings. At 3.9BTC, its a gamble - it would probably break even but after a full ~16month lifespan ROI would probably be 10-20% at most

So how long does it take to "Break Even" (aka ROI) if your expected -30% difficulty change doesn't actually materialize?

A 30% difficulty drop is roughly equivalent to a 420PH decrease if I am looking at things correctly.

459  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Bitmain Antminer S9 on: May 31, 2016, 04:06:10 PM
Experience on S7 suggested that the factory fans were about the quietest you could use and still keep the temperature under control. The S7 (and S9) dissipate quite bit (i.e. more than 2x) more heat than the S5. Quieter fans required a frequency reduction as I recall.
460  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Diff thread May 24 to June 6? picks are closed!!.... prize = 0.10 btc on: May 29, 2016, 06:55:30 PM
With a BTC price in excess of $500, some marginal mining is now back in the black for another month, barring a price collapse. I wonder if this will let Bitmain delay an S9 introduction to the public. Give them more time to complete the S7 --> S9 switch inside their farm(s).

Interesting times indeed.
