And your method is unfamiliar to me! I have no idea where "Variance of 18 000 bets of 200BTC at 49.5%: 200 * sqrt(0.495*0.515*18000) = 13 500" comes from. My method is to simply apply the central limit theorem.

Its supposed to be standard deviation not variance, edited that mistake.
Using the formula for the standard deviation of a binomial distribution:  √[np(1-p)]
n= 18000 bets, p = 0.495 and (1-p) = 0.505

Well, the binomial distribution does not really fit here, as it measures the number of successes without placing any weight on losses.

The calculation is incorrect I believe, the probability of the profit being worse than it is is around 7% according to my calculations.

Could you please point out where my mistake is, because I looked at it again and I can not spot it. Also I don't see where you are wrong either although the method you are using is unfamiliar to me.

In any case, the exact number is not too important. The important thing (to me) is that the probability of nakowa winning this much under fair circumstances is not out-of-this-world, yet it's important to keep in mind that nakowa COULD theoretically be cheating (seeing the server seed for example). Personally, I do not believe this is happening.

Can't believe you smart math guys keep arguing against idiots about this invest/divest stuff instead of using your smarts to do something like this. (The irony is that those idiots are actually correct at the moment, because right now being invested is -EV by itself).

Some quick back of the envelope calculations to show why you should probably all just divest:

Wagered on site: 3.6M
Expected profit: 36 000
Actual profit: -3 000

Site is 39 000BTC under expectations. Now let us simplify and assume all bets made were 200BTC bets. (The actual situation will have less variance than this because most of nakowas volume has actually been on bets less than this.)

Total bets made 3.6M/200 = 18 000

Variance of 18 000 bets of 200BTC at 49.5%: 200 * sqrt(0.495*0.515*18000) = 13 500

Site currently running 39 000 / 13 500 = 2.88 st devations under expected.

Conclusion chance of the site running this poorly by chance: Way less than 1%.

You guys keep saying trust the math, but your conclusion is all messed up. The math is telling you to GTFO, chances of something being wrong here is so high that staying invested currently is -EV!

The calculation is incorrect I believe, the probability of the profit being worse than it is is around 7% according to my calculations.

Assume each bet is 200BTC, the probability of casino winning is 0.505.
Let X be the random variable representing the casino profit on such a bet.
E[X] is 2, and Var[X] is 39996.
From the central limit theorem, the difference between the observed profit over the 18 000 bets and the expected profit, divided by the square root of the number of bets (18000) is close to normally distributed with mean 0 and variance the variance of X, 39996.
-39 000 / sqrt(18 000) ~= -291.
And the probability of a normally distributed variable with mean 0 and variance 39996 being less than or equal to -291, is (according to wolframalpha) around 0.073, i.e 7.3%.

I just bet on Esports - Dreamhack - Nerchio +1.5 and got my stake returned to me after a few hours.
Why is that?

Hi ctlaltdefeat,

Stakes would be returned if the game ended in a push or tie (with no draw wager available and according to rules), if the game was cancelled (did not take place) or if the game was rescheduled (beyond acceptable time according to rules).

Stakes would also be returned if you placed a bet after the match had already begun (ie. the match was already started).

If you believe your particular bet does not fall into the above categories, shoot me a PM or email support with your account information and we can investigate your particular case in more detail.

Thanks!

Well, looks like the match had already started when I bet.
So if I had bet before the match started, it would be accepted, even if the time you listed was inaccurate?
And if I believe I lost my bet on something which already started when I bet, I should contact support?
And last question: withdrawal by bitcoins is manual, meaning I should contact you with my receiving address to withdraw my balance?

That would be the reason why your bet was cancelled. Please note we try to keep all our start times accurate, but at times (especially with e-sports) games schedules can change suddenly and we may have games available which have started, or take games off the board which still have an hour or more before their newly designated start time.

If you bet before the match had started your wager would of course stand regardless of the start time listed on our website, according to the rules. If you believe you lost something which started already then yes you should contact support immediately (support@nitrogensports.com).

Please keep in mind we are trying to offer the community an honest and safe place to play and we hope that players do not try to take advantage of obvious errors. Mistakes do happen, but most of the time it is easy to spot those trying to take advantage. All it does in the end is load up the support team with more work!

Withdraw of bitcoins is automatic every 24 hours, (if you have no pending wagers) it will be sent back to the depositing address. You can also email support at any time to request a withdraw outside of the daily withdraw and they will try to accommodate this. Yes, you can contact support with your receiving address to be sure; it will stay locked with your account for all future withdraws.

Great, thanks.

Hey,

What are your max bets for betting with bitcoins? Also, do you limit individual accounts based on winnings? (in bitcoins)
Also, your website is kind of unstable for the last few hours

Have the people that posted above about not being credited with the deposit, been credited?
Also, what is the meaning of the + or - quarter points in Soccer (i.e +0.25 or -1.75)?
450  Economy / Gambling / Re: AnoniBet Sportsbook Live Betting on: September 13, 2013, 10:43:12 AM
The website is constantly down and having issues.
The juice is very high (around 10%).
And I cannot verify the trustworthiness of the site because the thread is filled with info@anonibet.com's posts and not users' posts.

On the plus sides, there is a larger variety of lines (at least for football (soccer)) than other bitcoin bookies.

451  Economy / Gambling / Re: BitBook.biz - Bitcoin sportsbook - Best odds - Instant Withdrawals on: September 08, 2013, 01:50:38 PM
I'm assuming most of your customers are American, but it would be cool to have some additional lines on soccer that aren't necessarily offered by Pinnacle. Stuff like Player A to score, result at half time, predict exact result, etc. Bet365 has tons of those Smiley

Can we have some indication regarding your inclination to current investment options? How do you feel about the current mining options? How do you feel about alt currencies and similar (payment systems, etc.)? What are some current attractive investments? Do you have some basic understanding of how the Bitcoin protocol even works?
Seems bizarre to issue more than 1m USD worth of shares, without having any history in Bitcoin or giving any indication about how you intend to invest. I may have missed a post where you explain this, but I couldn't find any of this kind of information in the listing documents.

He answered the majority of those questions in the prospectus and in this thread already. He didn't issue more than $1m USD worth of shares... it's around $200,000 worth. Not really sure where you got that number from. Do your own due diligence no one is going to do it for you.

There is around $240,000 worth of shares outstanding, yes, but the btct page includes some intention to issue 1000000 shares, unless he inputted that number with no purpose.

Regardless of the number, where did he "answer the majority of those questions in the prospectus and in this thread already"?
I've read through the thread and prospectus and do not see any information of the type I specified. Would be happy if you could point it out Smiley

Obviously it's more profitable to sell at higher price, yes, but they could instead show the "base" price as the bitstamp one and increase their fees. No sense in hiding the base price, if the mtgox one doesn't reflect it (not claiming that it doesnt).

Anyone know regarding the google checkout fees?
456  Economy / Securities / Re: [Bit Funder] [btcquick] [Rising profits] on: September 04, 2013, 07:42:04 PM
A few questions:

a) Have you considered changing the base price to BitStamp instead of Mt. Gox?
b) What about Google Checkout fees in addition to the fees you charge? Who pays them?
457  Economy / Gambling / Re: BitBook.biz - Bitcoin sportsbook - Best odds - Instant Withdrawals on: September 04, 2013, 03:36:02 PM
I think I've noticed a bug: although "time left" for bets seems to update automatically without need for page refresh, it doesn't seem like odds do all the time. There were several instances where I'm watching the lines, they don't change, and then suddenly after a refresh the lines change. Unless I happened to refresh exactly when the lines changed, it's a bug that should be fixed to give some indication. Although I haven't placed any bets yet I'm sure betters wouldn't like to press "Bet" only to see that it wasn't bet because the lines moved, or worse, to place the bet at the current odds that you don't see.
It could also be that it's some kind of bug in my browser, but it's worth looking at.

On the subject of esports, nitrogenesports currently has slightly better (that is, smaller) margins on some of the SC2 WCS WOR CHS lines. We're talking really small difference (for example, as of right now, Dream vs BByong moneyline has 1.925 on each, whereas nitrogenesports has 1.926 on each), but still Tongue

Hey stayeduptolate,
Do you have some estimate of how many bitcoins you've made/lost in your betting endeavor? Smiley
Or at least, if you don't want to out your bitcoin wealth, what percentage increase/decrease you've made (i.e you started at 100%, how much would you have now)?

Thanks
