441  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Stop mining on Deepbit NOW! on: June 05, 2011, 07:45:55 PM
Stop creating new threads about this and bump the others that you've been participating in.

Seriously, how many people who have no idea will read "Deepbit Approaching 50% Once Again". They'll be like "awesome, my pool is the best!!!" and continue as before. People who know the danger probably don't mine on Deepbit anymore.
I know the danger and I mine on deepbit. Let me know when it *actually* reaches 50%.
442  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Confirmation Confusion(*not* MtGox Scam) on: June 04, 2011, 12:03:24 AM
I suggest you do what casascius said AFTER you download all the missing blocks if this is still not resolved and transaction doesn't appear to be in http://bitcoincharts.com/bitcoin/.
443  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Confirmation Confusion(*not* MtGox Scam) on: June 03, 2011, 11:57:36 PM
What exactly is the problem? Just because it says "offline" doesn't mean it won't be broadcasted. Anyway, this has nothing to do with mtgox, it's your client that's screwing things up.

Are you sure? Doesn't it mean if it is offline it is not in existent? it has been this way for 30 minutes.
no, every valid address "exists" (it might not belong to anyone (yet), but it's there). Try adding fallback nodes or checking upnp support to get more connections. Also, you're missing 1000 blocks or so. I don't know if transactions can be broadcasted before you have all blocks but you won't see any conformations until those are downloaded, that's for sure.

447  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin Technical Analysis on: June 02, 2011, 04:52:06 PM
I've always thought this kind of analysis is bullshit, but the fact remains, this guy has never been wrong. Props to you, Sir.
448  Economy / Marketplace / Re: Bitcoin donations to the Seasteading Institute on: June 02, 2011, 04:41:47 PM
Gah, nothing to easily cut-n-paste?
done, sorry Smiley
449  Economy / Marketplace / Re: Bitcoin donations to the Seasteading Institute on: June 02, 2011, 04:37:59 PM

Hoping this is not a scam and they make it official, it'd be awesome. (I'd still wait for this to appear on the page before donating though)

451  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Please test: Bitcoin v0.3.22 release candidate on: June 01, 2011, 07:41:31 PM
Could you please fix the bug with wallet not having 100 addresses at the beginning.
452  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What does Quantum Computing mean for Bitcoin? on: June 01, 2011, 06:28:32 PM
I think the switch to quantum computer resistant crypto will be done long before the first (serious) one will see the light of day.
453  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Lost Savings Wallet Addresses?! on: June 01, 2011, 06:19:54 PM
There is a bug where the creation of the first-ever address (with label "Your Address") does not trigger filling of the keypool. The keypool is only filled once the next address is created, and then it takes tens of minutes to fill completely.
tried it, it works. Interesting that this hasn't yet been fixed in the latest beta.

I suppose addresses that are created internally also don't trigger this?
454  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Lost Savings Wallet Addresses?! on: June 01, 2011, 05:22:38 PM
I can confirm, newly created wallet shows as having only one key pair with dbdump.py.

I also had a problem where I lost a few bitcoins that were sent to a new address, when restoring the wallet from backup (the difference was the last transaction only).
455  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Backing up wallet.dat on: June 01, 2011, 12:32:58 PM
The key pool was introduced in 0.3.14

Restoring of a wallet backup is supported since 0.3.20 with -rescan, in earlier versions you had to remove the block database and redownload it.

Since 0.3.21, -rescan is done automatically.
this is weird then, I'm running 0.3.21beta
456  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Backing up wallet.dat on: June 01, 2011, 10:04:17 AM
The only actions that require fresh keys from the pool, are change sent back when sending a payment, and generations (mining). You can do at least 100 such actions before a new backup is required.
yesterday I tried restoring a wallet from backup and lost what was sent back with the previous transaction (shows as debit to the newly created address, which obviously isn't in the wallet). There was only one transaction difference between the two wallets. When was this "100 key pool by default" introduced?
457  Economy / Economics / Re: difficulty too high while bitcoin society too small on: May 31, 2011, 11:24:58 AM
But 99.9% of people can not distinguish an mp3 @ 320 kbits/s quality from CDDA quality. For many genres of music, mp3 with such a rate is even more perfect than CDDA, because of mp3's psychoacoustics algorithm.
ah, not this bs again...

Young people do not accept vynil records, they simply go to youtube, itunes, vkontakte.ru, etc. So vynil records are rarities with volume, confirmed by few thousands 'old-men' world-wide.
you would be surprised how many kids listen to vynil.
458  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Successful timing attack on ECDSA - maybe it's already time to switch algorithms on: May 31, 2011, 11:00:37 AM
another attack on ecdsa. (don't think it's a threat to bitcoin though)
459  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Why transaction fee is so big? on: May 30, 2011, 08:48:42 PM
yes
Then you will have to wait a few blocks for it to get higher priority.
460  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Why transaction fee is so big? on: May 30, 2011, 08:35:59 PM
