Piling every proof-of-work quorum system in the world into one dataset doesn't scale.

Bitcoin users might get increasingly tyrannical about limiting the size of the chain so it's easy for lots of users and small devices.

Out-of-context quote is out of context.

Being taken out of its original context for resuse in another is what makes it a quote.  Have you never experienced the phenomenon of quoting before?

The link is clickable for anyone who wants to pursue the source material.  No need to copypasta unneeded verbiage.

You can't refute Satoshi's point about users getting "increasingly tyrannical about limiting the size of the chain so it's easy for lots of users and small devices" so you snark instead.

No, actually no. The idea of a quote is that the same context applies to both scenarios, but here this is not happening. Satoshi was talking about BitDNS (Namecoin?), which has nothing to do with what we have here. Also, you removed the middle of the quote, which makes the two sentences connected in a different way.

If you're going to quote, then quote properly.

You want to add Telegram, but are ignoring WhatsApp, which is, whether you like it or not, more widely used than Telegram.

Whatsapp needs phone number and I don't think BT users will share phone numbers with each other.

Doesn't Telegram use phone numbers too?

You don't know what will or won't "happen overnight."  Especially when all hell breaks out as the Great Schism erupts into a hot Bitcoin Civil War.

You guys keep seeing a war (now it has a name: The Bitcoin Civil War) where there is none.

MP & Co have tremendous financial (and personal) incentives to force the GigaBlock issue sooner than later, or at another time of their choosing.

They have the resources and expertise to fake and/or otherwise hasten the mere appearance of sufficient acceptance, in order to lure the Gavincoiners into MP's deathtrap.  Multiple wisenheimers will compete for the privilege of paying the ~20BTC in fees to create the first GavinTainted BloatBlock as soon as it's possible.   And then the games begin...as we let slip the dogs of war.

Wait, what? Why would the opponents of the 20MB fork help them create them in the first place? I fail to see any kind of logic here.

Luckily, we don't even need an expensive PITA MPEX account to profit from the chaotic fun.

Someone will set up a Gavincoin Exploitation Fund pass-through, where all you have to do is send BTC to its address, with your payout wallet in the comment field....

Your conspiracy theory is so convoluted I can't manage to understand how this will bring any benefit to anyone at all. Unless, of course, they were doing it for teh lulz.

And the "programmable money" thing is a marketing gimmick

Actually, no, programmable money is an important part of Bitcoin. What do you think scripts are for?
447  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Google Doodles? on: March 12, 2015, 10:04:27 PM
It would be nice for the 10th anniversary. That is, January 3rd, 2019.

Yeah, but let's not have to wait 4 years to see it!

Let's get the Google doodle ready for January 3rd, 2016!

Yes, of course. The doodle should be ready as soon as possible.

449  Economy / Economics / Re: What if the necessity of use outweighs the desire of gold? on: March 12, 2015, 04:23:55 AM
As great as bitcoin;s are for store of value, they sometimes have to be used in order to create more economic output, which means spent….

Bitcoin was designed to be spent. If it wasn't, then the blockchain wouldn't be necessary at all.
450  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: wot if blockchain got to 100 terabit wot then on: March 11, 2015, 11:44:32 PM
if every block reaches 20mb cap. running a node at home will become quite hard.

Running a full node at home is hard already. You need to leave a server on 24/7, which increases energy expenses, and some ISPs block ports needed for Bitcoin to work correctly.
451  Other / Off-topic / Re: The craziest shit you can buy with bitcoins right now? on: March 11, 2015, 11:40:57 PM
The craziest thing you can buy right now is the space reserved for my signature on this forum. Seriously.

Also, as you make your decision, don't buy from a "middle man" who will then cash in your BTC and buy whatever you want with fiat. That DOES NOT count as buying something with BTC. The best example is the first time someone "bought pizza" with BTC. They didn't buy pizza. Their friend bought pizza, used fiat to do so.

Considering the vast number of services that use BitPay to receive their money, then I think there's almost no way to truly spend our bitcoins.

People using “wot” make me automatically assume they are being sarcastic.

If people drive away, [...]

Why do you want people away from Bitcoin? What we need is global acceptance, and we can't get it if we need people NOT to use Bitcoin.

It works the same way as homeopathy (which, actually, doesn't work).

How many businesses in the world function by accepting any amount a customer is willing to pay, as long as that amount isn't zero?

Well, any business that has sufficiently low costs to be able to turn this amount into a positive profit.

But do you have an example of such a business?
455  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin 20MB Fork on: March 11, 2015, 12:16:27 AM
You just proved my point. Let's get deeper into this. Remember that nobody is forcing you to buy a new iPhone. You could still use the old ones if you don't upgrade and you can still make calls with a Nokia 1100. This is what we need to happen with Bitcoin too.

The GSM network didn't need to "evolve" for iPhones to be able to function properly, in the very same way the core backbone that is Bitcoin doesn't need to be "fixed" with hardcoded exponential growth to allow innovation.

But what about 4G? Why was it created if everything was working perfectly before that?
456  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin 20MB Fork on: March 10, 2015, 08:42:54 PM
It's difficult to understand the exponential nature of the network effect without a visual aide, since humans don't intuitively understand exponential functions.

There's too much potential value to be realized by a universal monetary ledger to imagine that some kind of fragmented solution will successfully compete.

Competing blockchains are not "fragmented."  They are linked through exchanges, and soon by SuperNet/Blocknet type interconnections.

Your illustration is extremely simplistic.  I think you know enough economics to realize that.

If not, please educate yourself on the related concepts of diseconomies of scale and negative marginal return.

Because more is different.   Smiley

This is the network effect in graphical form. Diseconomies of scale have little to do with this concept.

Another sexist thread, just after International Women's Day.

You're the sexist for supporting only ONE day for women. How about every day is International Women's Day...as much as it is International Man's Day.

You assume I only support women on International Women's Day, and that's false. If you see my post history, you will find I've complained about (what I consider) sexist behavior in several occasions all year long.
458  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: POLL: Is Bitcoin for EVERYONE or just a new ELITE? Vote! on: March 09, 2015, 09:30:22 PM
Some people believe that Bitcoin is the solution to world poverty. I don't know where these people got that idea in the first place.

It does have the potential to open up areas to online commerce that weren't previously possible. That has the potential to snowball.

Yes, but it's not the purpose of Bitcoin to end poverty. It would be a side effect.
459  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: POLL: Is Bitcoin for EVERYONE or just a new ELITE? Vote! on: March 09, 2015, 09:29:30 PM
I'm trying to imagine as someone with 17-200 microbitcoins paying the 0.0001 BTC transaction fees after each transaction.

You're trying wrong. If Bitcoin is a world currency, then the transaction fee would be 1 satoshi, not 0.0001 BTC.

If my fridge appreciate the service, he could eventually pay a tip to the drone for the fast delivery.

That would require consciousness, and I doubt a conscious fridge would enjoy just sitting there freezing things.
