4401  Other / Meta / Re: Email confirmation on signup on: March 27, 2018, 10:10:08 AM
In this case I think instead of email address why not use a bitcoin address that you own. A bitcoin address is also a uniqueID.

For any system everyone needs a Unique ID to identify a user. That is why system developers use email address since every email address is unique.

It really make sense when it comes to anonymity. Agencies can trace the email address to find private information about someone (if they provide to the email provider of-course).

Asking for email address seems pointless in my opinion at the time of registration then. It can only create kiosk.

The unique identifier is the username, there is no technical requirement for any other identifier. It is a very long time ago but I remember the email field being optional. You only need to provide an email address if you want to receive notifications to it. You can also change or add the email after sign up.

PS: Congratulations on becoming a Hero Member @TheQuin

Cheers  Grin

Wondering why SMF does not have this simple feature.

I don't think it is a limitation of the forum software but an expression of theymos' desire to allow complete anonymity to forum users. When I signed up there was no requirement to provide an email address at all (I don't know if that is still the case).
4403  Other / Meta / Re: Promotional messages in PM on: March 27, 2018, 09:40:19 AM
Well, it's obvious you are not Jet Cash  Grin

Edit:
Wondering why are you teasing Jet Cash? He/she is a decent person in my opinion.

Oh, I missed that thread. That explains it, another wise old cat in a Newbie's clothing.

Edit:
Not that much of an expert, because he missed the activity update.
Now I must sort out a signature.

You timed it perfectly, you'll be on 28 activity tomorrow.  Wink
4404  Other / Meta / Re: Promotional messages in PM on: March 27, 2018, 08:40:54 AM

How can we check if an account is banned or not.

If you checked your mail within an hour or two of it being sent, then I would report it. If you checked later than that, I would just delete it, chances are that the sender will already have been reported.

A Newbie account less than an hour old and already an expert on forum procedures. Nothing suspicious to see here.  Roll Eyes
4405  Economy / Micro Earnings / Re: FreeBitco.in - Win free Bitcoins every hour! on: March 27, 2018, 08:38:35 AM
BTW is Freedoge using the same algorithms or is this the normal progression?

0 - 9885           0.24 DOGE
9886 - 9985   4.70 DOGE
9986 - 9993   47.05 DOGE

We had to reduce the base prize for Doge for everybody quite some time ago. At Freebitco.in we have managed to only reduce it for some. The bots and abusers prefer Doge for its low transaction fees.
4406  Other / Meta / Re: Merit & new rank requirements on: March 27, 2018, 08:28:34 AM
Its just simply unfair system which left lots and lots of people who do really try to produce quality post getting no merit while others who don't contribute anything getting merit for posting nothing more than spammy gossip message about merit.

It isn't just about 'quality'. That's a completely arbitrary measure anyway as everyone has their own opinion as to what constitutes quality. Personally, I think that making a valuable contribution to the forum deserves Merit and that can be achieved in many ways.

The system isn't unfair just because you don't share the same judgement about what deserves Merit as someone else.

How can we check if an account is banned or not. I checked the profile: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=990580 and there is no ban mentioned there. Is it visible to staff only ?

Yeah, they're not visible to regular users. You may check the modlog for bans, but it only covers recent ones as far as I know. I can't find the user you mentioned anymore, so they must have been banned a few weeks back.

You can also check Vod's site http://dev.martinlawrence.ca/bpip/
It does take a while to update though.
4408  Economy / Micro Earnings / Re: FreeBitco.in - Win free Bitcoins every hour! on: March 27, 2018, 07:42:55 AM
had to register here
can you look at my USER ID 201806
cos i used the Contact Form several days ago
still get the half
0 - 9885  0.00000013 BTC
9886 - 9985  0.00000253 BTC

As wetsuit explained above.

So we have been forced to reduce the free play rewards using an algorithm, specifics of which I cannot reveal as that would compromise it.

I can tell you that your gambling, buying lottery tickets and deposit history is taken into account.
4409  Other / Meta / Re: Any advice on how I can earn merit? on: March 27, 2018, 07:32:41 AM
Yes, you were given the same amount as everyone else, but you had the luxury of ranking up first through mere activity. If I am not mistaken you got 250 merits when the system was introduced, of which you can give away half.

The amount of sMerit wasn't that high. I got 250 Merit as a Sr. Member and only 22 sMerit to use.

When a new system is introduced there has to be some way of grandfathering in the existing members. It may not seem particularly fair but there probably wasn't a better way of doing it.

- be more active in other sections of the forum. The altcoins section doesn't seem to be the right place to get noticed
- don't be too European and not inverse dots and commas  Smiley
- make concise rather than lengthy posts
- don't quote unnecessary parts of a post
- support newbies and answer their questions

I'm glad you got some decent advice out of this.
4410  Economy / Micro Earnings / Re: FreeBitco.in - Win free Bitcoins every hour! on: March 27, 2018, 07:14:30 AM
Myfe will no longer be handling the forum support for freebitco.in. TheQuin will be the new support manager so please direct your questions/comments at him.

The reduced free play base rewards is still a work in progress. We have been forced to put in additional protections to maintain our sustainability since there is an ongoing attack of a huge number of bots abusing the free play (most likely using a botnet). All our previous protections have failed against this and any new protections are adapted to within a couple of days. So we have been forced to reduce the free play rewards using an algorithm, specifics of which I cannot reveal as that would compromise it.
Hey there wetsuit! You haven't posted here in a while haha. Love the site.
We've been talking about an unofficial app for FreeBitco.in and FreeDoge.co.in in the play store. It says it has notifications and other features and it seems that the reason they made it is so they can get referrals (when you open the app you go to a referral link to Freebitco.in). I haven't used it though, because it may be logging usernames and passwords to scam them all at once some day.
What do you think about the apps? It may be a threat to the stability of the site, as if they scammed their users, many people would be mad at you (it has 50k downloads!). Maybe we should increase the security over changing withdrawal addresses, as now you only need a password. I suggest a pin code which is not used to log in, so the app couldn't steal any balances.

Maybe you don't have time to answer to this, so i direct this message to TheQuin
Long live the best Bitcoin faucet <3

Edit: the publisher of the apps is MakeMoneyDigital, in case you wanted to search them

You have spotted the problem with using unofficial apps. We highly recommend that you do not use any apps as they could well be untrustworthy.

Please enable 2FA and that will require the authentication code to allow change of withdrawal address. This is superior to using a pin code as that could also be harvested by an app.

4412  Economy / Economics / Re: HODL mentality destroys the currency aspect of Bitcoin on: March 27, 2018, 05:30:16 AM
From my perspective, it is an erroneous attitude. Real value comes from real usage, while speculation doesn't belong here. When people keep on holding, it limits the amount of bitcoins being traded - that's definitely true. And although it contributes to a higher price, this price rise doesn't add anything to real value. What it actually contributes to in the long run is extreme volatility because, as I said, supply diminishes and markets become more susceptible to liquidity storms.

So by that logic, gold has limited real value as it has limited real usage and the amount of gold being held in reserves by central banks makes gold more susceptible to liquidity storms.
4413  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin will never reach $1,000,000 again on: March 27, 2018, 05:25:48 AM
Bitcoin was never $1,000,000.

That is true but all you have done is prove that you replied after reading the title and then not even the OP to find out what the thread is about.
4414  Economy / Gambling / Re: FreeBitco.in - Win free Bitcoins every hour! on: March 27, 2018, 05:02:00 AM
promote #TheQuin to communication manager, because he has been dominating the discussion here.  Grin

I laughed so much when I read that I couldn't formulate a response. The idea of anyone hiring someone as blunt and argumentative as me to do a PR job seemed too ridiculous to consider. But it's a funny old world and here we are. I'll try and be a bit less grumpy from now on.
4415  Other / Meta / Re: Any advice on how I can earn merit? on: March 26, 2018, 03:35:55 PM
If you think 2-months is being around for a long-time, then you are sorely mistaken about the expectations around here.

This is true, it is going to take time to become knowledgeable and have something to say that stands out. From a quick look at your post history, you are entirely focused on altcoins. This being the Bitcoin Forum may also be a bit of a handicap to you.
4416  Economy / Micro Earnings / Re: FreeBitco.in - Win free Bitcoins every hour! on: March 26, 2018, 02:40:54 PM
WHY IM STILL HERE???

Maybe because Freebitco.in has become much more than a faucet. How many other sites give you the chance to win $200 rather than just the base reward? You might even get lucky and win well over 1BTC on the lottery.
4417  Economy / Services / Re: [FULL] ChipMixer Signature Campaign | 0.00075 BTC/post on: March 26, 2018, 02:33:27 PM
Gonna work to pass LoyceV, of course
Bring it on Cheesy

That's you two fighting it out for 1st place, now who's taking me on in the first to rank up challenge?
Me Tongue

It looks like the Legendary randomizer has been particularly unkind to you. I win.  Grin
4418  Other / Meta / Re: Bot activity on the Chinese board. Weird post count too. Mod attention needed. on: March 26, 2018, 11:15:54 AM
Didn't thought about that, you a right. OMG, I was wondering what is happening for many days now, seen people with large post count but almost only 2-3 posts in the history list to see. Thanks, here some merit!

It took me a long time to work that out to begin with. Wow you just made me Hero  Shocked
4419  Other / Meta / Re: Bot activity on the Chinese board. Weird post count too. Mod attention needed. on: March 26, 2018, 10:55:37 AM
I know about the activity but here I meant that the post count and post history do differ. I did't express myself properly, sry.
On the last two pictures as an example of pyg3141191 / I see now he is nuked/ you can see what I mean.
On the first one, he as 21 posts but on the second one in the "Show the last posts of this person." he has only 4 comments.

Have you used the "Ignore Boards Preferences" on your profile? If so that would explain why some posts are hidden. You can use incognito mode on your browser and they'll reappear.
4420  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin will never reach $1,000,000 again on: March 26, 2018, 10:28:00 AM
I don't know

I quoted the only part of your post that made any sense.
