4402  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: How profitable can investing in CannabisCoin be? on: October 20, 2014, 04:23:16 PM
Like most alts, the end may come a few weeks after the beginning. Most people who "invest" in alts lose their money promptly. Why do you even need a weed coin when you can use BTC to buy anything, including weed?
4403  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: how harmful is mining and how to know if GPU is ok? on: October 20, 2014, 04:19:32 PM
I would think the best test is to just play a video game. Does everything look good? If so, I think your ok.
4404  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Angry threat from BitStamp. Put myself in danger or they'll steel my money. on: October 20, 2014, 04:06:28 PM
I don't know why people think this a problem witn the exchanges. If you don't like KYC/AML laws then you need to tell this to your government, not the exchanges. They do not make the rules and they are not going to violate the law so you can keep you 0.5BTC secret.
4405  Other / Off-topic / Re: why mining bitcoin will eventually belong to the Government ? on: October 20, 2014, 03:40:20 PM
because government can even put bitcoin miner on ther sattellite if necessarry.

Why would they do that? And what government will eventually own bitcoin, Burkina Faso?

4407  Economy / Economics / Re: why do people agree to pay taxes? on: October 20, 2014, 02:51:17 PM
So, who's leaving America to get away from evil taxes? And where are you going? Where is this utopia of tax free peace and prosperity? Some of the gulf states have no taxes. But that does not mean you can do what you want. There are a lot of laws about how you must conduct yourself in accordance with Islam. And you may still have to pay unofficial taxes in the form of bribes.

When you rank countries by how happy their people are, you find that the happiest places have high taxation. That is because it's not the tax, it's what they get for their taxes.
4408  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin Price Is Not Rebounding,why? on: October 20, 2014, 02:35:47 PM
Because the real value is $380. The price is just naked supply and demand, it's never wrong.
4409  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin...was created for? on: October 20, 2014, 02:33:34 PM
Those are some good questions. Fortunately they have all been answered years ago. Much can be understood if you know about "open source" software that is "distributed" over the internet.

Because it is open source, all code used to create the program is available to all. Totally different than almost all the software your used to. You wondered who was at the top of the Pyramid? In the code you can see that there is no pyramid, no bitcoin.inc., no official anything. Each of us is the bank, the customer, the payment processor, etc. When you use bitcoin there is no need for a 3rd. party, just the seller and the buyer. The tasks you used to use a bank for are distributed across the network of users.

The security of bitcoin is based on strong encryption. Because this makes bitcoin impossible to profitably counterfeit, there is growing demand for it as a store of wealth. Because it is the fastest, cheapest, and most secure way to pay anyone anywhere; there is growing demand for BTC as a payment system. So, demand is driven by utility.

You answered your own last questions. Why do people use "real" money to buy "made up" bitcoin money? Because all money is just made up. It's just fancy paper that people believe will hold value. And gold is just a shinny rock. Why do you believe in the made up numbers on your credit card?

4410  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: hello, just found this place on: October 20, 2014, 02:04:24 PM
Remember that bitcoin is a payment system. It is not a get rich quick thing, so don't listen to any offers of wealth. They are scams. if you really want to use bitcoin then:

1. Choose an exchange in your home country. Some exchanges are not trustworthy.

2. Set up a wallet on your computer. I would not use any online wallet for more than $100 worth of bitcoin.

3. Fund your account and be prepared to give your identity. You may link your bank account or use a USPS money order. Do not use any system that has chargeback options, such as PayPal.

4. After purchasing at the exchange, move the bitcoin you bought to your wallet. Unless you have sole control of your private keys, you do not have bitcoin.

5. It is very important that you now make several copies of your wallet.dat file. Store them safely, because if you lose this file your bitcoins are gone forever. No exceptions.

At this point you have coins, you can get more when you want, and you can restore them if your computer dies. When you shop online you will notice that the transactions are done in minutes, you provide no information that allows an attacker to get more of your coins, and you are only paying a few pennies to send money anywhere.

6. Cut up your credit cards!

“People in the Western World need to know what’s happening here in West Africa. THEY ARE LYING!!! 'Ebola' as a virus does NOT Exist and is NOT 'Spread'. The Red Cross has brought a disease to 4 specific countries for 4 specific reasons and it is only contracted by those who receive treatments and injections from the Red Cross. That is why Liberians and Nigerians have begun kicking the Red Cross out of their countries and reporting in the news the truth."

That challenge is a sham.  They require you to have been on tv, which is centralized media.

Yeah, that's why. They also require you to leave the bottle of sodium in oil behind.
Everyone who refuses the Amazing Randy's challenge has an excuse of some kind.
4413  Other / Politics & Society / Re: FBI Director claims Encryption threatens to lead all of us to a very dark place! on: October 17, 2014, 04:20:34 PM
Great! I love the dark.  Smiley

EDIT: The director is just going to have to understand that trust is the issue. They are asking for our trust by demanding back doors in software. Well, they have violated our trust and so they will not be trusted by me. I can also assume that the FBI does not trust me. If they did they would not want to see my personal communication. I am not going to allow spying by provably untrustworthy people.
4414  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Oh great, now IS is training pilots on: October 17, 2014, 03:30:45 PM
People have noticed and reported short training flights from IS held airbase.

http://www.bbc.com/news/world-middle-east-29660029

To train a talented recruit to a pilot takes a couple of months, but they still will be inexperienced rookies and will be outclassed by any seasoned, battle hardened pilot. In addition they have some really old planes (MIG-21s or MIG-23s maybe SU-17s).
I agree. And to make an air force takes many years. They will have a hard time finding spare parts and jet fuel also. I would worry more about a suicide jet loaded with 500lb. bombs. But yes, they will make good training targets for other countries.
4415  Other / Off-topic / Re: Man sets newspaper on fire using chi on: October 17, 2014, 03:25:52 PM
What is Chi? It's supposedly a form of energy that flows along meridians through your body. Why do people believe in it? The ancient Chinese knew a lot and their technology was advanced in the ancient world, except for medicine. They had a taboo against dissection and knew very little about the body. That led them to combine mystical beliefs with healing and invented Chi energy.

We know for a fact that the structures they thought were in the body are not really there. Nor has anyone ever found evidence of chi energy. Chi is a belief system that has zero basis in reality. Obviously this fire is a parlor trick.

4417  Other / Off-topic / Re: That's it, I don't care anymore. I need some help identifying my junk(?) on: October 17, 2014, 12:00:06 AM
so I spent about a hour spelling some crap in this site and most characters there is either unrecognized or have no meaning at all.

the only thing I can find the meaning is 大, which means "big"...
could be anything, maybe "big vase" or something like that... so yeah, maybe these vases isn't worth anything  Tongue
I know a little Japanese (which borrows characters from Chinese) and I noticed that also. However the other characters look like they may be stylized fake Chinese. I don't know enough to be sure though. Nor do I know anything about vases. But I think of this blue porcelain look as being popular in Europe a hundred years ago. They made them in Europe to look Asian. If its what I'm thinking, they may actually be worth something. Not a fortune, but hundreds?
4418  Other / Politics & Society / Re: THOUSANDS of Chemical Weapons Discovered at Iraqi Complex Now Held By ISIS on: October 16, 2014, 11:47:00 PM
This time they're real.

And they will attack the US any day. We must defend ourselves!

lol. yeah, I don't think we should go get them either. I seriously doubt they would consider using them outside of the caliphate region. It would be easier to make ricin or sarin in the U.S. than smuggle it in. But damn, of all the people to wind up with this stuff.
4419  Economy / Economics / Re: why do people agree to pay taxes? on: October 16, 2014, 08:18:52 PM
As a side note... It's not that I support what my government does with the taxes they collect from me. I think most of it gets wasted at best. But that is a different problem than taxes themselves. Whether you feel free or not, these are the safest times in all of human history. Never have you been able to think that you might live to be 70. My friends in Washington state can smoke weed, carry a gun, curse any god, have sex with who they want, etc. That is basically unheard of in history.
4420  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Anyone following the ebola outbreak? on: October 16, 2014, 05:44:03 PM
What is Ebola? It even exists?

Yes, it exists. However a lot of ppl (even a lot of west africans) think that the current outbreak is just a hoax (like the swineflu "pandemic" was) for making a lot of money on vaccines, medicines and supplies on the west and scamming some money out of the world on the local government side.
To make accusations worse, many news depicting people sick with ebola seems to be fake with some paid "crisis actors".

a conspiracy like that is probably possible but would take a lot of effort, a lot of fear, and a lot of cooperation from multiple countries, I just don't see this being as realistic as other conspiracy theories I have heard of. This also seems like something that would get exposed somewhat quickly and most governments wouldn't get involved.

I am not so sure this is ebola and am not so sure it isn't intentionally being spread but one thing I think we should believe is that something is making a lot of people sick and appears to be killing people in multiple countries.
A strong argument against a conspiracy is that this outbreak helps no one except the virus. By December we should have 1 -2 million cases. That level of infection may well lead to the end of several affected countries.
Your concern is that companies are trying to profit from "vaccine sales". Well, there are no vaccines for this. Maybe they are profiting from the aid being sent? Almost all of the aid is in the form of protective clothing and construction of temporary hospitals. The only use for this stuff is caring for Ebola patients.
Of course someone somewhere is getting a kickback, this is Africa after all. But Ebola is a real threat and will kill huge numbers before its over. Just hope that it does not mutate into a real monster. Because viri basically mate with your cells and have babies with you, each new person infected changes the virus genome and increase the odds of a more dangerous form evolving.
