Hoarding is simply the same as saving. Savings are what makes capitalism a viable economic model. Inflation is a stealth tax from those who have last use of new money (the poor, middle class) to the pockets of those who have first use of new money (the banks, wealthy, government).
It is not quite so simple. Standard economists worry that if inflation becomes too low (or if there is deflation), incentive to hoard increases and incentive to invest drops, which could lead to negative growth, the bête noire of capitalism. The situation you refer to is only possible in a domain where there is an artificially enforced monopoly on the money supply, e.g. central bank, totalitarian capital controls, etc. Free markets rapidly fill shortages of goods, monetary or otherwise, and correct mispricing. |

Hypothetical: I have invented a two-way peg that requires no changes to the existing Bitcoin protocol. I.e. SC are now possible without any new code being run by the network.
What are you going to do about? Send in a PR to change the protocol to block hypothetical economic "attacks"?

Bitcoin is a speck of dust compared to the other currencies discussed. To talk like Bitcoin is affecting these or that it is "in the trenches" is ridiculous. Claiming Bitcoin is "the strongest, most secure, Store of Value mankind has ever created" is beyond ridiculous. Bitcoin can be copied in a gazillion alt coins. Bitcoin does not store value unless people put value in it and not other things.
These crazy articles of how Bitcoin is currently competing with national does nothing except scare normal people away and makes Bitcoin weaker in the end. The people who write articles like that play too many video games.

You sure you weren't one of the guys going on about the pro-anarchy stuff? Coulda sworn... Oh well, if I'm wrong, my mistake. You and I probably disagree on what constitutes criminal behaviour. E.g, many on Wall St. and the Federal 'regulators' should be behind bars or impoverished after 2007-08, imho. 'Legal' structures and intermediaries are inherently vulnerable to errors and corruption. Justice comes in many forms. |
