Since its inception in 2008, bitcoin has been linked to a series of corruption scandals spanning money laundering to payment to view child pornography sites.

stopped reading.

Name a currency that hasn't been linked to money laundering or child pornography?

Care to explain because those lines means nothing in TA terms...the only thing I can tell you is that the very long term chart, the 3 years one(1W candles) is looking very bearish, it indeed looks like a bubble that is bursting..

Most of you wont admit it, but another bubble highly unlikely wont happen, and if the downtrend continue based on the stage of a bubble by Jean-Paul Rodrigue double digits are a very good possible event that we can't really ignore.

Why am I not surprised to still see sub-400.  This market is just ridiculous.  It seems apathy is setting in now, even with people who were once bulls.

I guess no one even cares to buy more now?

why buy most of the coins out are either stolen or tied to some scammer!..Wall Street wants nothing to do with this mess!  Tongue

... that's why they call it filthy lucre, there is no such thing as "clean money", it's a utopian fiction sold to you by your totalitarian masters.

btw, Wall St. are as happy as pigs in shite when it comes to filthy money.

Two thoughts:

What would Satoshi think of sidechains?

(Hint: I suspect he likes them ... )

What if someone(s) involved with Blockstream is Satoshi?

Now it is all out in the open, like the source code, which for sidechains, does not even exist yet.

The MACD is a lagging indicator, without momentum it doesn't mean anything... with this slow market, MACD turning green is not a strong indicator of a reversal.

... and the worm turns.

Out of interest: Say you were given the task of designing a portfolio to survive 1000 years, what would it be comprised of?

I want to play!  Initial distribution, given at least $1 million:

20% ancient Greek, Roman, Chinese, & early American coins
20% Eurasian artifacts (suit of armor, Egyptian mummy, Ming vase, & Japanese sword type stuff)
15% French & Italian vineyards
15% English & Swiss orchards & farmland
10% rare books and documents
10% Enlightenment, scientific, industrial, and computer revolution collectibles/artifacts
5% US & Royal Mint bullion
5% crypto (4% Bitcoin + 1% Monero)

100% moon land titles

back to the Bitshares thing.  i now realize that it has its own blockchain and is just a variation of the same POS scheme.  sorry, i don't study these alts.

the fact that Daniel Larimer keeps changing the protocol is concerning, not to mention his public nature and those required of the delegate nodes.  the merger with Ethereum indicates to me that both are struggling to come up with a viable solution perhaps never to be found.

... also note Charles Hoskinson has been involved with both BitShares and Ethereum at different stages.

HSBC had impeccable KYC/AML policies and practices in place no doubt .... these regulations mean nothing if the people running the show are fundamentally dishonest, it actually makes it worse, since they can hold up these pathetic regs as a fig leaf to cover over the disgusting swamp of corruption.

People have to start wondering if Swamp is involved in a bitcoin grab that perhaps they are about to go tits up?

I mean for the amount of "non-verified" customers, all of whom have btc addresses on file there, why wouldn't they just liquidte and send the btc back instead of this funds confiscation BS?

The BitSwamp is fast earning the Gox reputation in my book ... roll on the decentralised exchanges, it's clear the other way doesn't work with Bitcoins, too much heat on one single center to handle.

Corporations only have power that is given to them by the state.  Take the power away from the state and the corporations are impotent.  A corporation is nothing more than a legal entity created by the state.

... and their paying customers. Popular consumer and supplier revolt against corporations is effective. People still buy their products voluntarily.

In the taxed world of government, it's join or die (read: pay taxes or get arrested), too, I understand that. But at least in this instance, my toilet flushes when I take a shit in it, and I don't have to steal my food. That alone is worth the tax fee to me.

Did you pay for the panopticon surveillance dragnet  that logs in the national database that you probably just took a shit because it records your flushing habits and timings of when your oven switches on? Is it worth your taxes to have armies of psychologists making shit up to feed to mainstream news teams to create widespread confusion and fear when an administrative pollster measures favour for the latest military action flagging?

"Join or die taxation" just gets a whole lot more sinister when you realise you're pulling the yoke for a gigantic killing and enslavement machine and there's nothing you can do about it except fucking pull harder and hope like hell it is someone else that is gonna get killed by the machine.

Most of the pro State comments make out like the State is benevolent, all current evidence to the contrary. We're not talking anymore about big versus small govt., it is a big, facist, malignant, growing out of control  beast of a system you are supporting.

James Gorman, CEO of Morgan Stanley, agreed.

“You have to be respectful in the face of new technologies like Bitcoin, but you don’t capitulate,” he said. “You adjust and take advantage. Consumers feel better putting their money with a brand they recognize. We have capabilities and resources that are very powerful.”

Joining the dots here, it sounds like Morgan Stanley are positioning to provide old-world branded, 'trusted' bitcoin products and services ... wishful thinking?

Most interesting thing I've read about UK politics for awhile now, it's nice to see there are Libertarians in the UK, there was a sort of 'official' Libertarian party but they went extinct a long time ago and were clearly dealing with lots of internal politics.

I may actually donate some coins to these guys if I can get myself a passive income.

Did you dig into the stats there ... looks like the 'kids' really get it, the good voluntarist parts ... and the teens and tweens even more so. They understand that the quantitatively provable ways to help the poor and common man is NOT through more government but less. Bleeding heart libertarians, hah.

When the Conservative-Liberal Democrat coalition moved in 2013 to cap the total annual benefits a household can receive at £26,000, a YouGov survey found that 54% of 16 to 24-year-olds agreed with it against 16% in opposition.

Ipsos MORI's Generation Next survey of 11 to 16-year-olds seems to confirm that the ideas of personal responsibility and individualism are growing in appeal among tomorrow's adults.

Just 4% of more than 2,700 secondary school pupils surveyed said the welfare state made them most proud to be British. The winner was Team GB, the Olympians, at 28%. And only 2% said benefits were the most important focus for government spending, though 11% did prioritise looking after the poor.

Apps such as taxi ordering service Uber, which has drastically reduced the costs to consumers of a cab journey in the cities where it's used by increasing competition and evading bureaucratic licensing terms.

Or cryptocurrencies such as bitcoin, which operate outside of the realm of financial regulation and monetary policy frameworks, powered organically by a sprawling network of dedicated developers and enthusiasts.

In Howes' words, technology will "undercut a lot of the existing hierarchy".

There's one snag: the state will always try to catch up. The loophole advantage of legal grey areas exploited by new technologies is often closed. Uber has faced court challenges and financial regulators across the world are working out if and how to police cryptocurrencies.

"When the state cracks down on Uber, people see the state cracking down on a technology they like," Salisbury-Jones says.

didn't some of the EU countries announce that Bitcoin would not be taxed?  I like that position better.

That would be awesome, but long term is not a solution.

How can bitcoin be exempt from tax when we trade it for our local currency?

Once we pay taxes in bitcoin (yes optimistic), how can bitcoin gains not be taxed?

Unless you expect a complete collapse in modern society, in the sense that we all pay taxes, how can you expect bitcoin to not be taxed like anything else?

Are gains on your local currency on a foreign exchange taxed?

In NZ and Switzerland for example, gains on foreign currency if held for long periods and not for short term trading will not be taxed with capital gains. You need to move to a more enlightened country. Capital gains taxes are more regressive for economic wealth buildinng than income taxes, which are bad enough. Consumption taxes only is where the world is heading, and that is the best thing out for strong, deflationary currencies, like bitcoins and gold. Of course, it is bad for govt. generally, but they've had a boom century and it is time for them to go back to the feudal dark ages from whence they sprung.
