Don't waste all that energy, grab a frying pan and start making some breakfast in the morning with that cpu.
have you ever cooked on a 100W stove? that's what it's like to cook with your computer.

CPU: - Speed does not matter, so get the cheapest one
- undervolt, and underclock the CPU, to save power
RAM: - 1 GB for linux
- 1-2 GB for windows
Storage: - a cheap, <500GB hard drive
- or a USB, loaded with linuxcoin
Motherboard: - Enough Pci-e slots.
- keep in mind pci-e x1 slots can be converted into x16 slots with no loss in performance, although you'll need extenders for the cards to fit
- Most cards are 2 slots wide, so try to get one with more than 2 slots between the x16 slots
like this:
Power supply - Ignore the total wattage. Most of the power will be drawn from the 12v rail(s), so get the one that has most 12v amperage
- use this to calculate power requirements: http://extreme.outervision.com/PSUEngine
Video card - Most cost effective cards ($/MH) are 58xx series cards, but only if you can get them at non-inflated prices
- 69xx series cards are the next best thing. They are more expensive, but they are more energy efficient.
- only reference design, and some non-reference design cards can adjust voltages
- some brands are better for overclocking *cough*sapphire than others *cough* XFX
- to boost performance and save power, underclock the memory to 180-400 mhz range
any suggestions?

bitcoin id? wtf is that? Whatever you call that thing after Bitcoin: in your signature. I'm not planning to do pooled mining. My setup at home now has a miner and a bitcoin gui client running and somehow magically it manages to make rewards show up in just that client's wallet. I want to control in who's wallet the coins are to show up and best would be to be able to reward more than one. you can point all the miners to a single server. that way, all the coins will be rewarded to one wallet. The server, of course will have to be offsite. If you want to split the earnings, just have a cron job that sends out bitcoins regularly.

bitcoin id? wtf is that? You can always get a e-wallet, and send your payments there.

It is still in beta phase, so please help testing. You will get a full refund if you are the first to test ClockTweak to change clock/mem speeds and reduce voltage in one of the following environments and post a copy of the outputs of the "-x" option here. Please include information about the type and manufacturer of your card(s)!
I guess I have to add it's sapphire 5830, xtreme still waiting for payment.

For bitcoin to be universal, it needs to be accessible, secure and reasonable private to soccer moms, not hackers.
is knowing how much money you have really an issue? If people are really paranoid, they can always use a mixer service, or a e-wallet.

Let's get serious here. For ordering drugs, sure, what you suggest works, but if we want bitcoin to replace all the world's currencies (and I sure do), we can't seriously ask all the people to use fake names and PO boxes everywhere. And a real address is already enough to connect to you to a name. Many people's address are public.
revealing how much money you (may) have is much better than giving out your REAL name.

I think you misunderstood. poclbm, mine, phoenix, and cpuminer are all stickied. But hey, don't let facts get in the way of your blatant trolling.
oh yeah, you forgot SSE2 miner.

When I order anything on Amazon, I give them my name, address and credit card. Do you know an online store that doesn't require your address?
>name fake >address real, or a PO box edit: aww shit, my post count is 666.

bitcoin ... are more private than credit card Dare I say "false"? If I give a 3rd party my credit card, there's no chance he will know how much money I have in my bank account. but does he know your name? you address? your phone number?

1. make fake paypal account and verify it with fake info 2. buyers send payments to that account 3. use that account send money to your main account (for added legitimacy, buy it using ebay)

it's because the newer versions use #bitcoinXX for finding clients, where XX is a random interger. The old client just used #bitcoin.
