for the 1st contest, the "stock stick" run with only air cooling, can we replace the thermal compound?
same heatsink and air cooling 24 hour run without crashes if you want to use a different paste/compound I would think thats okay. What frequency are you attempting to run at? [...] I just mention because heat is not my problem at all. heat isnt a problem with mine either, its just sooner or later I replace all my thermal compound. I would just wait if thats a nono for the contest.

Contacts from PSU är made of Bronze, connected to the copper wirings, and then to Aluminium cables. so its kinda a nice mix up haha Grin.
look. you need to unplug this death trap NOW. aluminum and copper wiring DO NOT PLAY WELL TOGETHER.

you didnt say how many and what colors any blinky light things each design might have.
comon man dont leave us hanging.. toss us a bone!

You guys are talking about cooling a stick or two, right? just one.

*Edited as long quote
2700CFM at 0.33HP, my sun server does more air then that and at 110dBa :>
since my little hub got 30A at 5V directly from the PSU..
They actually say 1062 CFM in video. It could be wrong though it seemed a little dated on video. It is a interesting designed fan's. All I use are more traditional round ones. I am impressed with your hub. I would love to see how high a stick goes on that. how many fans? are they 80mm radial design? whats the static pressure? how many rpms? what temps are they in? is 110 db a or c-weighted <= a/c weighing makes a difference in perceived sound in human ears due to the shape of the ear canal. animals like cats/dogs hear much different) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A-weightingthese are 0.33 horse power i believe these are big and each one weighs 27lbs. I ran them around 2007 in construction. that have warnings not to move them while running and warnings to brace doors as they will close them with air presure and keep children and drapes away from them. gotta love it yup servers are LOUD and can move serious air indeed. 110db can hurt your ears long term ( i work at an ent medical practice with audiologists and run pro sound in a band ill grab a sound meter and check) I have some delta fans kickin around somewhere in the basement the video is from 2006 I think these are fairly quiet we ran them in residential houses. and we do have servers at work that need air conditioned environments. this one you can rent if needed

As enthusiastic as I am about a contest to maximize a stick, I don't know that I'm up to it now. I found these comments in the stick support thread- meech - steadily running @300mhz 7.2 v adj. @ 1.52a with 4 hashing about 16-17ghs edonkey's getting 16GH @306 Mhz chig reports running at 400 Mhz with no errors in 24hrs (no hash rate mentioned) phillipma1957- I did run at 400 and got 22gh but was pulling over 2.1 amps or just about ten watts a stick. (and i bet if phil unplugged the other 19 sticks in his stud(ly) hub, he could shoot lightning bolts into a stick and manage to keep it alive for 24 hrs.) and this- Did you see we jacked one up a bit yesterday and got it to 488MHz? Most of the high-power parts were actually still stock. Keep an eye on sidehack, he might just want to win one of his sticks back. I've got 5 sticks that's been going 5 days @ 350MHz, with a big 2HW, would have been a longer run if the power didn't go out for about 2 hrs last Friday. http://imgur.com/e8Xqr7hhttp://imgur.com/hhcItj3I'm waiting on some better fans to move more air, before going any higher. And if what I got planed works, should be able to hit 450+ MHz (but got a little testing to do yet to see if it's going to work). *cough* http://www.jondon.com/dri-eaz-sahara-pro-x3-turbodryer-air-mover.htmlwatch the video please and download the manual (pdf) *umm cough* i do have access to more powerful ones i used to do fire and flood restoration in construction thats just the 1st link i could google real quick @ phil is that cheating?

Graet, can you dare to come back and read again what you ever wrote in here?
I had put btc to his loan but pulled it when THINGS started to happen. i put a decent amount of hash at his pool too. had his wiget on my desktop and such graet what happened??? i supported you..

you are putting a lot of time in this.
this contest is not for a prize Im doing this just for the lulz and because I love hardware, and love competition. if I dont smoke at least one chip into a puddle slag with this well, its not true competition in my eyes. ill order more
thank you but please dont think you have to do this

Have to show a screen shot of hashing on hour zero and hour twenty four. screen shots at midnight? USA eastern time zone? daylight savings time? UTC time?
|
|
|
My idea would be stock fan cooled.
Twenty four hour run.
Most shares for the one stick.
Have to show a screen shot of hashing on hour zero and hour twenty four.
In theory cgminer would show run time really close to 24 hours.
Crypto glance would track shares
Lastly everyone could use suggested diff of 16
Most shares wins.
If cgminer crashes and does not show 24 hours disqualified.
a I need to think of a way to cheat what I just wrote.
B if we like this contest later on we could do a modified any cooling method for a second contest.
C if you can figure a way to cheat the contest let me know.
ok "stock fan cooled" ok stock heatsink or any heatsink.. like I have a heatsink from an old mackie 400 watt professional amplifier. it will dissipate a true 400 watts. and 120 volt squirrel cage blowers that draw 10 amps @ 120 volts can i use it please please huh can i please? keep in mind I am stupid and will push the limits on finding the line. Ill run all my ideas past you for legality I will have a ups on my router, computer, switch, and usb evdo modem and a 7000 watt generator that pretty much runs my whole house.. plus raid 1 on the OS to make sure the stick miner wont fail at least as far as Im able to well unless I blow the stick up

phil sorry to ask you to repost something but whats that usb diagnostic thing with current and voltage readings can you post a link?

philip we (or you its your show) should think about contest rules?
say only stock sticks but with aftermarket cooling. that way most anyone can participate?
Only thing is if we add restrictions on it we will get everyone pretty much getting the same max. If someone goes out and mods stick and USB hub ... gets a huge speed I think that would be awesome. The stick modding is beyond me but I'm guessing some in group can modify it to allow more voltage. hey Im in for "open class" or "modified class" or my personal favorite "stupid class" rules I mean if at least a few people dont toast their stick in this contest well we are not really competing

we could try this down the road. maybe a 24 hour overclock contest. have to think how to set it up. if you put everything else on donation and you contest stick on stick. we call up the share counter at 12 noon say on Nov 15th to 16th check it 1 day later. cryptoglance program can do that easy. we would need a screen shot the hashing at your setup and of the stick.the screen shot needs to show your start time and what freq is https://i.imgur.com/Ss05CHG.pngIm in. saved and printed it out. like the 15 nov 15 start date, gives plenty of time to experiment. go big or go home I always say ps 2nd place is 1st looser heh

Peltier is a lossy cooling method, if I'm thinking right. With a bit of beefing on the power systems we pushed a stick to 488MHz off the stock heatsink and about a 1.5cm square stick-on on the back that probably wasn't doing much. But if you could pull that much heat out of the ASIC you could get some serious speed out of this guy. Probably have to replace the inductor with something that could handle more current, and make sure your bus voltage stays above about 4V or your power will be unstable.
it is lossy. cant remember the loss percentage offhand hmm i can see a hot air rework station in my future. although a temp controlled iron i have could probably do it. which inductor do you recommend?
|
|
|
sidehack, what do you thing a peltier would do? 22 watts of cooling capacity. cool the power section and chip. I would need frost precautions etc but I can do that easy.
stupid? oh yeah that has vapourminer written all over it. I mean anything worth doing is worth overdoing as the saying goes.

I think it would be kinda cool to see single stick hashes at the stick addy as you could tell the monster insane overclocks on that table that cryptoglance put up. put the best killer clocked stick at the stick addy for bragging right heh even more fun for stick users. however dont want to complicate things much, you already have done loads.'
but dont want to overcomplicate things. the whole point is to be easy. Seeing the monster overclocks would be very cool. We could work each day to claw our way higher and higher in the heap. Some of us, like me, would probably burn our stick or hub out trying to get there, but yes it would be very cool.yeah my thinking too. moar power arr arr as the saying goes. I would have a blast doing cruel things to the sidehack stick aside to sidehack: I will not expect a warranty repair for doing stupid stuff. of course you would notice easily because of the little burnt puddle of slag were the power section and chip used to be.
