I just noticed in the shift graph page that the time is off by one hour in respect to the graphic itself and the time lines. The rightmost part of the graphic should be the current time, but that is marked two steps behind in the time line (assuming one step is half hour).

4544  Local / Altcoins (criptomonedas alternativas) / Re: El petro permitirá a Venezuela liberarse del dólar on: December 18, 2018, 04:53:15 AM

I use Telegram, thanks for the alert.
4546  Other / Off-topic / Re: What is the best korean drama you've watched? on: December 16, 2018, 10:54:07 PM
I vote for Goblin as well, but jewel in the palace (historical) was good. I like those, so add the dramas about King Sejong and Admiral Yi too.

It's full of scammers, avoid like the plague. Especially the dating sites...
4548  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: New firmware for antminer S9 - less power consumption on: December 16, 2018, 06:23:43 PM

Does anyone knows what Low Power Mode and Low Power Enhanced Mode are for? They come enabled by default, but the only result I could see was, a very high reject rate at Bitmain's pool btc.com, around 70%. On viabtc pool it reports a very low hashrate instead (about 30% of what the miner shows).

For the time being, I left them disabled and the hashrate reported by the pool is fine.

Using: Antminer-S9-all-201812051512-autofreq-user-Update2UBI-NF.tar.gz on 12.93TH S9s.

I'm running the 24.10.2018 image on sd card on s9i
Is it safe to upgrade it via web to latest?

When I try to do "opkg install firmware" or "opkg upgrade firmware" it gives me "Unknown package 'firmware'" or "Cannot install package firmware"

Did you opkg update first?
Since you are using the sd card, you could also just take it out and flash the new one...

Is there a place that lists all the changes for Cobalt?

Howeveeeer... i didn't do a backup. so.. i can't reflash a normal bitmain image to the miner to go back again. it seems it doesn't work that way.

i've installed python but i don't know how to make a backup from another S9 with an Bitmain FW.
i didn't catch much from the help from Braiins. they say "python3 restore2factory.py backup/backup-id-date/ your-miner-hostname-or-ip"

If your unit has the microsd slot, you are supposed to use that first to make sure you like it...

When you install Braiins using their python script, it makes a backup of the factory firmware inside backup/

When you install Braiins using the web browser, i don't think it makes the backup.

Before the last version, people were requesting an "easy" install, but I think the price to pay is you don't get a backup.

So stop asking for "easy" shortcuts and use the command line (python+ssh) installer, preferably from linux, not the web install...

If you still have an identical miner running factory firmware, and you use the Braiins command line install, you will get a backup like
Shad0wSmurf suggested. Then you could use that same backup to restore both units to factory firmware (Does that clone the mac address?)

But beware of mixing S9 with S9j/i firmwares, especially if you made backups of older firmware versions...

Velles2003 Try using stock values without overclocking, and also try different pools. Check temperatures.

I thought you had to have already made a backup of the factory firmware?

I know it makes one when you install it from console, not sure about the "web" option since i have never tried it.

BTW: They updated the docs about the R4: https://docs.braiins-os.org/#braiins-os-versioning-scheme
4552  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: Braiins OS: open-source mining firmware [S9, T1]. New release includes AsicBoost on: December 11, 2018, 04:25:45 PM
Don't! Braiins support got back to me this morning saying there are a handful of variants of the R4 which the FW simply doesn't work on for unknown reasons. There is also no SD card slot so no way to revert to factory. I'm in a pickle with this R4 (glad I only did one machine) until Braiins figures this out.

Can't you revert to factory firmware using restore2factory.py?

I'm sure I checked the download page before, that must have been added recently...
I guess I'll give it a try.

According to the Braiins page, the R4 is supported. Their support has confirmed this and added that they have tested it on multiple R4’s. I will have to try removing the 4th wire, thank you for the tip! Can it be reinserted without damage?

Yes you can reinsert it again if you want, in the exact same position it will click again and stay in the plug as it was.

Strange, I don't see the R4 mentioned anywhere in their documentation, web site, or first post of this Thread. Else i would have tried it on mine...
4555  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: Braiins OS: open-source mining firmware [S9, T1]. New release includes AsicBoost on: December 08, 2018, 02:13:59 AM
I've installed this via the web portal on one of my R4's and am having problems getting it to hash. It will submit 3-4 shares before stopping. It appears to be linked to fan speed as when the fans drop from start up, around 3k rpm, the miner stops hashing. For some reason the fans drop as low as 800 rpm (never seen them that low) and my guess is thats causing a failure mode to kick in like it does on the s9's when people disconnect the fans to try and oil cool. As there is no way to control fan speeds through BOS at the moment, I can't test this theory. I'm in contact with Braiins support and will keep the thread update with how this issue gets resolved.

The R4 is not supported, why did you do this? If you think the problem is the fan, just disconnect the 4th wire  (I think its blue): gently take it out of the plastic plug by using a small flat screwdriver to let it lose; then the fan will be at 100%.
4556  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: Braiins OS: open-source mining firmware [S9, T1]. New release includes AsicBoost on: December 06, 2018, 12:26:15 AM
So, what free open source monitoring software can be used with this version?
4557  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Bitmain Announces the Antminer R4 and APW5 Power Supply, Designed for Silence on: December 03, 2018, 07:00:59 PM
After updating to the newest FW my R4B2 went from 8 to 8.5TH/s and is running cooler.  So more hash for less operational cost, not too shabby...  Cool
I just did mine and was going to write the same.
Indeed from 8th/s went up to 8.5th/s. Also its nice to have proper pcb+chip temp readings, seems much cooler now Smiley
Looking at the logs the system wants the FAN to run at 50ish percent, but nah, I'll leave it at full throttle because its so quiet anyway.
Max chip temperature went down from 110ish to 70, not bad (max i ever saw was 120...).
4558  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Bitmain Announces the Antminer R4 and APW5 Power Supply, Designed for Silence on: November 24, 2018, 06:47:13 PM
Yes the R4 has to be run upright and the fan at 100% (by disconnecting the 4th wire). No other orientation works because the fan is too weak.
The design is great for single units sitting at home, but awful when you have many units next to each other.

I think someone should design a mod case conversion mimicking the R4, but using a couple of regular S9 boards, which are a bit smaller. Who knows, perhaps something similar could be done to the Whatsminer M10 or the Innosillicon T2 (which use larger heatsinks).
4559  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: Braiins OS: open-source mining firmware [S9, T1] on: October 23, 2018, 01:51:09 AM
Would be nice if this could be used with the R4... Also, any plans to add asicboost?

for the hundred thousandth time ASICBOOST requires compatible HARDWARE. There is no magic software to enable it on hardware that was not designed for it.

And Bitmain just announced it officially:

Quote from: blog.bitmain.com
"We’re very pleased to share that last night our developers released the firmware for the Antminer S9 to enable what is popularly called the “overt AsicBoost” functionality. We will also release in one week the firmware to activate this functionality in other BM1387-based models namely the Antminer R4, S9i, S9j, T9 and T9+."

You were saying? The BM1387 chip lacked asicboost?

If Braiins has plans to release a firmware for the R4, i would rather wait for it than use Bitmain's. The R4 is just an S9 with two boards and 1 fan.
