I'm starting to notice that several forums, including Bitcoin Talk, are not as active as they were a while ago.
Actively does not equal to same or better quality. Sometimes it cause worse things like what forum has circa 2017 and lasted till nearly end of January 2018 when merit system was kicked off. Also many of the threads and posts seem to be of lower quality.
I agree with you on this, totally. They created threads probably to beg for merit. Honestly, chances to earn merits nowadays are much easier than in 2018 and before May or June of 2019. Has anyone else noticed a slowdown?
How do you define your active variable? From data, for last 2 months and a half, levels of activities -- for new posts, topics, members daily, are very stable. I don't have data for previous period so that I can not compare. At least you did not provide which period you want to compare current activity with. Me too. It is a very helpful thread. Most of newbies don't read it but some of them will do read it. It can be helpful for old members who have not known about many threads in the list. Pinned / stickied threads are for people who need it, not for all, not for spammers, scammers, etc.
Half of the first page will be covered with stickys. If this comes true i would love an option to hide the stickys.
All that can be avoided with a simple Welcome message, while is more likely to be implemented.
Just a simple link in news feed for the first 7 days online should be enough.

@OP, The forum is not built for merit, it is built for bitcoin, then after long path it was opened for altcoins and some other things. Merits naturally help the forum a better place (less spam, higher quality post, more actively scam-fighting/ spam-reporting, etc.). If one need to know about merit sytem, how to earn merit, that thread Merit & new rank requirements. Read that OP and scan some merited posts inside are enough. Of course, the Welcome message can help too. All topics you listed in OP are from lazy members who don't use Search of the forum. It is easy to find what they need for by Searching. |

Bitmain is the owner of antpool, antpool has been the largest bitcoin mining pool at one time before, but they have never had more than 50% mining hashrate capacity before. You can check the the link below posted by tranthidung
Your data interpretation is not correct. My analysis is for total number and corresponding percent of blocks found by different pools in specific years or all time. Total block found in a whole year, 2017 ie. does not reflect how low or high one company, pool controls total hashrates on the Bitcoin network. It is a very different data. In the other words, pool with dominant hashrates find most of blocks in the period its hashrate is dominant on the network. Sure it is not a year timeframe. Definitely not if you are mentioning about dominant hashrate about 50%.  But if you simply and naively rely on total blocks and percent of blocks found by one pool to get very raw overview on potential hashrate of that pool, you have to look into very narrow timeframe, such as 1-day, 1-week, or 1-month. I remembered such FUDs back in 2017 or 2018, so when I have time I will come back with data for those 2 years and see what I can find from dataset. |

As I promised weeks ago, today I play with data and give you my new analysis on Top-200 of Merit Earners and Merit Senders in the last 3 years (2018, 2019, and incomplete 2020). Notes:- If you need comparative box plots for each 5 or each 10 users, ask me. I have list of top 200 merit earners and senders in hands. Just ask me if you need.

ABSTRACTLook at medians (the line inside boxes). Receivers- The dominant group (1-25) has speedy merit-earning rate in first 2 years (2018 - 2019). Their pace in 2019 is almost double in 2018. The pace is slow down a bit since 2020 but they still are merit earning beasts. You know it is challenging to improve medians.
- The second group (26-50) has nearly stable merit-earning rate, but it has been on upwards.
- The 3rd group (51-75) has impressive increasing rate in 2019 compares to 2018 but the rate is slow down a bit in 2020.
- The last 2 groups have their doubling rates in 2019 compares to 2018 and they seems to keep up stable rate (it can be understandable, I guess they need to rank up and become more knowledgeable, more familiar with the forum, more monthly sMerit allocation for more actively merit sources. Lots of more factors).
Senders- In 4 of 5 groups: the common trend is upwards. The only exception is group 76 - 100, its rate is slower a bit in 2020.
- The 1st group is extremely dominant. It can be epxlained as most of them are merit sources.
- Top senders (include merit sources) have increases in their intensity of merit give-aways and values of each give-away merit transactions. See details. I mean newbies nowadays have easier chance to earn merits. They are more lucky than old-era newbies. If one is a new-era newbie, please stop complaining and keep improve post quality.
- You can see changes in intensity of give-away merit from top senders as well.

- New-era newbies: newbies after 24 Jan 2018 till mid of 2019 (before merit allocations were reconstructured).

Problems with captcha when log-in result in (with request from community) captcha by-pass code by theymos. There are two possible things might happen when you log in with Tor (normally -- without captcha bypass code) - You failed when you log in with you captcha. Even you choose them correctly, you still fail to log in. With this case, you have to try multiple times to log in your account
- You even can not see captcha images at start (I guess this is your problem, isn't it)
As I know of, there is no restrictions on the captcha by-pass code. There is no update on restriction from theymos since it was launched. You can now bypass the login CAPTCHA by bookmarking the link generated for you here: https://bitcointalk.org/captcha_code.phpIf it causes problems, I might restrict it to Jr Members and above or something, but currently anyone can do it.
I know it is not a good option, because it will disclose your privacy. - Login your account without Tor, at the IP address is not belong to your home -- somewhere like public wifi. Or a bit better by using VPN like Tunnel Bear, ProtonVPN, NordVPN
- Get your captcha bypass code by visiting the link.
- Click on reset to get your new captcha code if you want for next on-Tor log-ins. I'd like to reset my captcha code when I log in my account first time with Tor (if I create my first captcha code with public WiFi or VPN.
- From next log-in, do it with Tor.
- Keep your code as safely from threats as possible. Don't store it in non-encrypted files

Actually, I know there are some threads on Searching but I have some points to improve their guides and I believe it will be more effectively if I have my own thread. IntroductionIn life, on the Internet, Searching is the basic work and it help our lives become easier. With search engines that become more and more effectively and productively, you can search everything that has been published publicly online. The key factor that decides your searching effectiveness is your searching skills. In the guide, I'd like to help you know basics with Searching (aims at the environment on the forum only). Where to Search- Search option from main menu *

Mostly, you will use the following search command to search for potentially recent actions from moderators on that account (ban, nuke, delete posts, remove topics, etc.) It is basic command and you can combine with other keywords such as ban, nuke, delete, remove Note: If a topic was trashed, the topic #0 will be displayed, instead of real topic ID before it was trashed. SeclogVisit the Seclog page (it is also called as Security log). The page gives you details on: - woke up

- password reset via email
- manual recovery, previously-queued ownership change completed
How to search in Seclog page? - Username
- Combination of username and those 4 phrases above.
Note: By default, newbies are hidden but you can get them by clicking on Show all. Draft pageVisit the Draft page. It is helpful when you need to find previous versions of your posts or under-composing posts (but already clicked on preview) - Announcement (theymos): Drafts
- You need to click on post or preview to have a draft in that page
- Save only last 100 posts/previews
- Be deleted after 7 days
Search membersVisit the page Search membersYou can search for members by: - Username (default option)
- Position
- AFAIK, other options were disabled
The username option is most common used, enter username or part of username to search. Reminder: you search with username, not display name. Therefore, if one member changed display name and you use initial username to search, it will find you that guy but the display name will be different. The position option: it is helpful when you need to narrow-down the search data, for VIP/ donators/ staffs, etc. You can combine two options. Example: Choose 2 options, and use keyword ' Staff' to search. You will get list of staff members and normal members with staff in their usernames. Specific user's topic list pageVisit the page for specific user's topic list pageIt is helpful (especially for managers or productively thread creators) when you need to find a thread of yours or someone else but you don't remember keywords. Usually, people will click on Show the last topics started by this person from Profile page. Its disadvantage is you have to scroll down to find threads you are looking for. Sometimes it takes many times (large images, big threads, etc.). Example: I bookmark my list of topics over boards this way You can create your thread in Archival and save your topic list this way. It saves your time! Your latest IP addresses last 30 daysVisit the page Your latest IP addresses last 30 daysIt helps you to observe your latest IP addresses. It's tricky to get email notifications right so that they're not too spammy. Maybe later. For now, I added this page where you can see your IP logs for the past 30 days: https://bitcointalk.org/myips.php . You could pretty easily write a userscript to periodically check this and warn you if it's weird. (But don't scrape it on every pageload.) I don't want to make older IP logs automatically accessible because that'd give a hacker a bunch of useful/sensitive information. But 30 days is probably not too harmful. Visit the page Your report history to get yours. There are differences for reporters who have 300 + reports and below. Report History Only users who have reported 300 good reports have access to this page This is probably one of the most useful features related to reporting. Basically, this shows you a history of your reports, and whether they have been marked good, bad or are unhandled. This page can be used for ongoing evaluation of your reporting habits. Use the information on this page to improve the quality of your posts. This tool can be accessed through the "report to moderator" page. This is the time that the report was made. This is the topic which was reported or the post that has been reported. By clicking on this link it will bring you to the reported post, unless it has been deleted.This is the user that was reported. These have been blurred out specifically for this thread for privacy reasons , however on your report history the username will be shown.
This is the status of the report. If the report has been dealt with, and marked either bad or good they will show this. For example, Good reports will be marked "Good", bad posts will be marked "Bad", and unhandled reports will be "unhandled". Search personal messagesVisit the page Search Personal Messages and modify parameters for your needs. Search with your PMsVisit the pages below and use Up/ Down icon to sort them descendingly or ascendingly. It is helpful when to want to filter your PMs (to find past conversations or to delete PMs from a user). Search your captcha bypass codeVisit the page Your captcha bypass code. I think no one is disagreeing with you because it's true. Most of the time, people who start their projects post in the announcements and when you start anything that is cryptocurrency and different from Bitcoin, it would be considered already an altcoin. It's not that surprising if you check the Recent Unread Topics at the top of the site. A majority from my list are from Altcoins: - Bounties (Altcoins)

Thanks. Your post reminds me that rules on bumping topics changed because of massive abuses in altcoin-related boards. There's long been a problem of spammy bumping being used to keep topics near the top, but lately it's become unbearable. Therefore, on these boards, bumping has changed:
- Service Announcements
- Announcements (Altcoins)
- Tokens (Altcoins)
- Bounties (Altcoins)

If he wants to pay cheap I would like to suggest to use https://coinb.in/#fees not 100% accurate but it always suggest me a faster & cheaper fee compared to bitcoinfees.earn.com. I used the coinb.in site in the past but there are something should be noted on the estimation fee from the site. - It uses data from previous block to estimate fee which in turn results in incorrect estimate. We need an estimate from current status of mempool, not from the past (even one block before)
- It worked good in the past, maybe in 2018 or early of 2019.
- Lately, it was broken -- serious incorrect estimate. I don't recall when it began to give serious incorrect estimate like that but you can check by visit the site when fee has spike area, then re-visit later days (maybe one to two weeks), and compare their estimates (sometimes estimates are the same ---theirs are too high as in spike area while in fact fee rate drops much lower). I noticed their data are not updated too good.
Johoe's site is the best, IMO but it might be a bit complicated for people who use it the first time.
