my 2 sticks are in!

just plugged them into my HTPC that has an existing cgminer setup (I put novaks build in the cgminer folder, used existing .conf file).. both running stock @ 125 Mhz at cks pool right now and Ill leave em there overnight.

will set one up here tomorrow (Saturday) when I can mess with them more.

a whole house protector and proper ground of the mains usually works.

ditto. square d whole house suppressor.

have the electric co check the ground.
4564  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: GekkoScience BM1384 Project Development Discussion on: August 28, 2015, 10:37:42 AM
We figured that was better than trying to shoehorn a new design into an existing pod with a specific heatsink shape. Rather than persisting in using the same proprietary chunk of metal, wouldn't it be better to make something that fits an existing fairly generic standard? The end result won't be as polished as a Gridseed or U3, but I'm not sure I'm really concerned about that.

I like it a lot as I have several coolers just collecting dust in my parts bin from upgrade cycles. most hardware addicts probably have the same.
4565  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: I am floating an idea here a sidehack usb stick solo pool. on: August 27, 2015, 04:13:20 AM
Well, one option is everyone gets one miner (unless we don't get 100 players), and we let it run until we hit a block. We can pick a minimum speed, near the max but not overwhelming, to add a lil' juice. Higher is, of course, welcome. Assuming that it isn't a major production to do so, of course.

As people drop out for whatever reason, gamers (heh) could add to their stock, or we can invite other people to throw one in.

To keep it simpler, if your miner is in the pool and the pool hits, you get 0.24. No matter if you just started yesterday, or you've been in from day one. If you drop from the pool, you're out. No payout.

This idea adds a bit of fun (For Duty and Humanity!) teamwork. And possibly a nice lil' reward.
I like that we could do 2 proxies the 30 day  and the lifetime well long term maybe not lifetime.  that may be the best idea

Right, and by "lifetime" I meant until it makes zero sense, or until enough people drop that there's no real point.

It is a great idea, thank you.

cool.

I have two coming. Ill run one at the 30 day, and probably one at the "lifetime." after the 30 day pool is done Ill take that one and perform absolutely cruel and stupid experiments on it..  I love destructive testing it has vapourminer written all over it Smiley

yup MX4

used it on all my folding@home GPU/CPU rigs as well as *cough* my bfl *cough* stuff. as well as my regular daily driver PCs.

the ICD diamond stuff has better heat transfer but is a major PITA to apply. MX4 is very easy to apply, non conductive/non capacitive, no break in period and works great.. much better than the artic silver people still love to use.

4569  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: I am floating an idea here a sidehack usb stick solo pool. on: August 26, 2015, 12:39:59 AM
just gonna put this out..

sidehacks sticks are capable of going far beyond stock. mine will be more or less stock (I dont want a fan on the one plugged into my HTPC in the living room so it will be passively cooled only) but Im sure others will wind theirs up to twice or more what mine will likely be at.

do those with greater hash per stick deserve more if a block is indeed found?

anyway to do a payout percentage proportionate to hash rate? or is that too much as this is more a fun thing to do rather than a money making thing (seems to me anyway).
4570  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: I am floating an idea here a sidehack usb stick solo pool. on: August 25, 2015, 10:24:45 PM
Im in for one stick.. I ordered 2 and one was going to cks pool at more or less stock settings anyway (the other stick is to do cruel experiments on) so Ill point it at this instead. its going on a HTPC thats on 24/7 anyway.

4572  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Core 0.11.0 has been released on: August 05, 2015, 01:57:46 AM
true that. I usually figure most problems are malware, outdated drivers, special config myself

but my version works well and a scratch blockchain would take a couple weeks with my crappy internet in thr sticks.. no cable or DSL

the risks outweigh the benefits in this case for me. what I have works so Ill pass.
4573  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Solo Mining on an S3 with 51.1 Difficulty - here we go! UPDATE: Block Found!! on: August 04, 2015, 06:06:05 PM
I found an old 333 mh/s USB eruptor, I'll try this... yolo. See you in 1.2 million  years.
I ran my block erupter 333 mh/s miner for a few months at cks pool on my HTPC.. hey its on 24/7 anyway right?

its more like see you at the heat death of the universe.

well another reason was to setup and test .bats and .conf setting and make sure the latest cgminer works.. and I miss that dos box in my taskbar Smiley

my two sidehack compacs will mine there for literally years.. years at 12 gh/s must be close the same as 400 gh/s for months right? Cheesy

we must have gone to different schools

Im still waiting for you to re-paste the other 7 chips on your SP20 and post the before and after results Mr Scientist
Not before you leap down that cliff and let us know the gravitation acceleration that was measured.   Wink

Some scientist you are...you should know that gravity is a constant  ...want an apple to race with? Tongue

he said the acceleration of gravity which on earth is 32 feet per second per second

i like to see these new versions flowing out like the water

well, only if they are good. I see lots of "it sucks" "have to reindex, re download"  etc on this version.

I dont really feel like doing things that suck.

as my current version 0.10.2 works I havent updated yet.

RE: coinbase

I have account with coinbase and I told my accountant and claimed by BTC profit when he did my tax returns..  like a good sheep to the good old USofA

but I leave only a couple BTC there and the bank account its linked to is a "disposable" bank account special for coinbase. and of course the IRS knows about my other bank accounts.
4577  Bitcoin / Group buys / Re: [SIDEHACK STICK] Official sales thread for everywhere not already covered on: August 03, 2015, 03:33:58 PM
a jalapeno is stock 8   oops 5 Gh/s @ 40 watts. I flashed mine to 8 Gh/s at 60 watts and voided the warranty.

mine was a 2nd day order and I was one of the 1st to get one so I only slighty got burned by BFL on that. but still got burned, remember that.

just saying there is NO comparison to sidehacks gear when you look at it vs a jalapeno. 40/60 watts  vs 5 watts. way more more hashes per second. small, no external PSU vs stand alone. I can run it stand alone on my notebook. cgminer used by both.

my howto post about a jalapeno with pictures, screenshots , how to flash it with an AVR Dragon programmer, temps recorded with a IR temp gun, and how to properly cool and run it @ 8 GH/s is one of the 1st few here on the forum and still on the forum.

look for it I wont pollute this thread; its sidehacks thread. Im just talking hardware here and someone else brought up the jalapeno Im just posting the real deal on it vs what you might hear from other threads.

TLDR: sidehack is not BFL and his compac is not a jalapeno.

I bought two.

one will go to cks pool at stock settings.

the 2nd I will winds the snots out of with a 80 mm fan im my basement workshop (I have delta 5000 RPM fans if needed - I suggest using them in your basement) on it with an IR thermal gun and a watt meter on it, I also have on oscilloscope Cheesy probably again at cks pool as its real good at mining reports  etc

4579  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Explain CUDA? on: August 03, 2015, 02:39:17 PM
confirmed CUDA and nvidia are the card of choice. I did folding @ home. my two GTX 285 cards did 100% load for 2 years 24/7.

PROTIP: install after market cooler and make sure cooling your boxen is a priority, the reference card is LOUD at 100%. I put artic cooling acellero extremes on my cards..  three 92 mm fans on each card and they are near silent @ 100% 24/7.

in the USA there is a 250K USD cap

so depending on what you have where you might 50%, more or less.. the math is left as an exercise for the student.

someone please correct me if Im wrong.

The insurance is more of psychological support than real support, I remember that some statistics showing that the insurance only covers 1% of all the deposit in banks. Rich guys usually do not put money in banks because those big money are not covered by the insurance

yeah CDs are part of that limit (I did not know that at the time. we were stupid and my wife listened to my financial adviser at our bank.. and its a local bank here in town I, I support local stuff.

wont make that support twice and neither will my wife. guess where part of those CDs will go in along with some actual gold bars and solid silver coins. they are due in November 2015.
