If some Bitcointalk members can chip in a few dollars, we would be very happy.  Smiley
Due to the current situation of the Bitcoin network, sending a few dollars right now is very costly. For example, that donation you sent a few days ago and paid about $2 in fees, would now cost you about $50 for a reasonably quick confirmation. I don't think many people will do that.

derBowler also accepts Ethereum, which is a better option now. He should consider stablecoins as well. If not USDT and USDC, at least the decentralized DAI.

While it doesn't happen to me often, in some rare instances when I try to access the website I am presented with the following message...
I don't see it on my end, even with a VPN and two ad-blockers active in my browser.

@bitmover
I have noticed that you accept bitcoin and liquid bitcoin for donations, but not transactions over the Lightning Network. Perhaps some people would donate over LN if that option existed. I know it's not popular, but consider adding a stablecoin as well. Whether we like them or not, they are a sizable share of the market.
463  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Trust and transparency in crypto? on: April 20, 2024, 10:18:02 AM
Our goal is to determine how can we truly trust the financial institution that hold our money, specifically around the crypto market but broadly around all financial institutions.
We can't! That's why we have Bitcoin. Those are two different worlds. Traditional finance requires absolute control, and is susceptible to fraud and manipulation. Not to mention the dangers of centralizing data and money under one roof. With Bitcoin, everyone controls their own fate, and I don't have to trust you to do the right thing. If you mess something up on your end, it doesn't affect me or the money I control.
464  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: [Apr 2024] Fees are HIGH, wait for opportunity to Consolidate your small inputs on: April 20, 2024, 09:57:16 AM
That's it. I declare Bitcoin broken at the moment Sad
I have never been more pro censorship or some type of restriction than right now, and at this point, I am not even ashamed to admit it. A solution has to be found or else the big-blocker monkey men have won. It's going to become impossible to recommend to new people to use Bitcoin and explain the benefits of it. When the obvious question appears, how much does it cost to send a bitcoin transaction, you can throw all your decentralization and control of your money arguments out of the window.
465  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: I was hacked today and all my bitcoin was stolen on: April 20, 2024, 07:21:22 AM
I was asking for help on the reddit page linked to electrum for help and obviously the help I received led to me losing all my bitcoin.
What I don't understand is what kind of help you needed with the wallet that would make you hand over your keys by entering them in a phishing website?

Your second post is very confusing. Seems like you were waiting for a transaction and somehow you got a message that you are already receiving some coins?! Message by who or what? Electrum isn't going to tell you to wait. A person probably did. I am sorry to say, but you seem to have done many things wrong, and this isn't the fault of Bitcoin or Electrum.

And we still expect to see mass crypto adoption… this is another example that shows us why it is still an unrealistic expectation. Imagine grandpa’s and grandma’s guarding their own private keys.
Grandpas and grandmas have an "expiration date". This technology isn't for them. It's for their children and grandchildren. It's also for those grandpas and grandmas that are capable of acquiring new knowledge.

We can't have mass adoption when the average person has below-average intelligence and is completely unconscious of everything around them that can be a threat to their security. Common sense can prevent many social engineering scams, and that's what this is. It was hacking that lead to the coins being lost. It was OP giving them away. I am not trying to kick a person while they are lying down, but this could have easily been prevented.
466  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Need Advice Securing Bitcoin Core Wallet Any Tips? on: April 19, 2024, 05:01:02 PM
I want to know details about the secure element chip. Can you please elaborate on the cryptographic protocols employed by the secure element chip within the hardware wallet to protect users' private keys and sensitive data?
This isn't really the place to discuss hardware wallets or secure elements, but since you brought it up... A secure element is a safe enclosure for your private keys. They stay safely on the chip to prevent outside access. The data is encrypted and only decrypted when needed. Random number generators create the private keys in a fair and unbiased manner.

I am not sure if that answers your question. You can read Secure Elements in Hardware Wallets for more information.
467  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Need help identifying wallet file from 2010 MS DOS mining! on: April 19, 2024, 02:17:14 PM
Was there no setup of a wallet with the software you used back then? Do you remember ever creating a wallet? Did you ever have a Bitcoin address that your mining rewards went to that you could check on a blockchain explorer to verify that there were real coins there? What about private keys, did you ever save them somewhere?

Do you know anyone else who mined using the same software like you did who actually got some bitcoins?

A quick google search found nothing about your mysterious DOS mining software. There are articles about some Russian who developed a DOS program for a 1980s computer, but that's new and different from what you claim to have used.
468  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Need Advice Securing Bitcoin Core Wallet Any Tips? on: April 19, 2024, 02:02:29 PM
And few hardware wallet is completely open (both hardware and software), where theoretically you could verify everything assuming you have time and skill to do that.
Any hardware wallet that has a secure element chip, and most of them do, can't be called open-source hardware-wise. The proper term would be as open-source as possible, something that Trezor used in one of its public communications a long time ago when the info about them creating their own secure element was fresh. I think even Foundation describes their products as having fully open-source hardware and software.
469  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: [Mar 2024] Fees are lower, wait for opportunity to Consolidate your small inputs on: April 19, 2024, 01:47:45 PM
Besides, it's less than 50% they're "losing". Earlier drops in Bitcoin price (around 80%) had a much larger effect on their earnings. Blocks will be fine.
And don't forget that they have been earning much more from transaction fees ever since the Ordinals spam began. And that is going to continue after the halving, plus with the added spam from RUNES. I do agree with NapHappy's logic that some older and unprofitable miners will be shut down. Let's just hope it won't have too big of an impact.

Still, I'll bet that the average fees for the 2 weeks post halving will be 50% higher than the average fees for the 2 weeks pre-halving.
The pre-halving fees have been pretty volatile lately as well. We have had periods where you needed 100 to 150 sat/vByte for a quick confirmation, but right now that's down to 60 sat/vByte.
470  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Need Advice Securing Bitcoin Core Wallet Any Tips? on: April 18, 2024, 03:59:21 PM
You are using your Bitcoin Core software where your private keys are on an internet-connected computer, so you are already much less secure than you could be if you took advantage of its airgapped capabilities.
Since it's a hot wallet, you can at least try to control what you do with that computer. If I were you, I would stop using it for any everyday activities online. Get a different laptop for that. For instance, I have a separate laptop I only use for my financials. I have never done anything else with it. It has never even had a USB connected to it that I use with my other computers.
471  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: (Help) I'm trying to get my private keys on: April 18, 2024, 03:45:33 PM
If you can't download and synchronize the whole blockchain because you are lacking storage and you can't even run the Bitcoin Core software properly due to an outdated computer, it should be pretty clear to you that you should forget about Bitcoin Core and running a node at this stage. As others have explained, install a light client like Electrum and import the private keys of your funded addresses.

In the future, if you want to to run your own node, get a normal internet subscription and a better desktop machine that will work flawlessly.
472  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: [Mar 2024] Fees are lower, wait for opportunity to Consolidate your small inputs on: April 18, 2024, 03:28:42 PM
This is just mind-blowing:
The monkey boys have calmed down a bit and the transaction fees are more than twice as cheap right now. But I am not optimistic for the near future. The halving is coming and with it a new monkey protocol on the day of the halving. Bananas will again raise the fees to make Bitcoin unusable for normal people. We will have to wait a long time I am afraid for the perfect opportunities to carry out proper consolidations.

474  Economy / Gambling / Re: 🔥BitKong.com🔥⭐Updated Game V2⭐New Bonuses⭐New Currencies⭐Native Android APP⭐ on: April 18, 2024, 03:13:08 PM
Does anyone know who are the owners of BitKong in real life? It is a trend of the crypto casino owners to stay anonymous.
After a quick look at their website, I don't see any mentions of an owner company or the name of a person who owns the casino. Perhaps a detailed look in their documents, FAQ, or talking to the support might reveal something.

That's right. But the new owner won't take the guarantee of the funds of those users who will miss to request a withdrawal before the deadline. Where the current owners will take the responsibility of the withdrawal until the deadline (according to the email).
That's because the casino will go into maintenance mode, so players won't have access to their money until it goes live again and resumes normal operations. The current owners can't speak for those who will be stepping in after them. That's what all that talk about guarantees is about.
475  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Now that Bitcoin is no longer digital cash? on: April 17, 2024, 04:14:27 PM
Bitcoin can be whatever you want it to be. Who cares what the minority or majority uses it for. Surround yourself with likeminded people who use and think of Bitcoin the same way you do. I understand your frustrations, though. Bitcoin is currently not a useful type of digital cash, with mining fees as high as they are. I would rather have the Ordinal monkeys gone and have them spam other blockchains, but we can't always have what we want. Even with the current state, Bitcoin is cheap for international transactions compared to fiat via banks and with a much faster settlement.

477  Economy / Gambling / Re: 🔥BitKong.com🔥⭐Updated Game V2⭐New Bonuses⭐New Currencies⭐Native Android APP⭐ on: April 17, 2024, 03:33:03 PM
In my opinion, the change of ownership isn’t a simple thing. BitKong will work like a new casino after the ownership change. We can't trust the new owner for the reputation of the platform with old owners.
I agree but it's also important to check who the new owners are. Does the e-mail mention the name? If it's a company that successfully operates several other online casinos, the ownership change could even prove to be a positive thing, especially if they are planning to invest more money into the site to make it better.

These two clauses are strange:

Quote
- Account Access: Your account and funds remain accessible and secure until the deadline

- Responsibility for Funds: Current owners are responsible for the security of your funds until the deadline

Does it mean the current owner will forfeit the funds of those users who won't make the withdrawal within 1st May?
It just means that the responsibility changes after the deadline. If you have questions or want to make withdrawals before 1 May, the old owners will be responsible to carry that out. Come 1 May, it's the new owners that will decide how the business will proceed, and the initial team is no longer responsible for anything.
478  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: It takes the balls... on: April 17, 2024, 03:23:28 PM
I have held since the price of BTC at $71k and until now I kept holding with this market...
That's not an ideal example because it would make little sense that you sell now if you acquired the asset at around $71.000 and loss money. Bitcoin's value is now $10k less than the valuation you mentioned. A better example of strong hands would be if you said that you held your BTC from $20k, and didn't sell any even when the price increased to $71k.
479  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Will increasing banking restrictions lead to a rise in P2P transactions? on: April 17, 2024, 03:16:23 PM
You have not given your reasons why you don't like face to face trading of cryptocurrency...
I guess it's the usual reasons. The possibility of getting robbed or receiving fake bank notes fully or partially. You could also be followed home, which would reveal to scammers where you live. Luckily, I have only had positive examples with face-to-face deals, but I have heard horror stories that makes you think how smart it is to meet people you don't know, even in public. All I can say is, don't go unarmed and be willing to strike first if it comes to that.
480  Economy / Gambling / Re: 🔥BitKong.com🔥⭐Updated Game V2⭐New Bonuses⭐New Currencies⭐Native Android APP⭐ on: April 16, 2024, 03:53:44 PM
All of it comes pretty surprising to me since I have known the owner for a long time now (we rarely spoke in recent times).
Now might be a good opportunity to get in touch with him to see what is going on. I doubt it, but perhaps he tells you something that isn't meant for the public to know. I have no idea how close you guys were.

I checked out the site in the morning and saw people complaining in the site`s chat room. When I went back just a minute ago, I realized that they got rid of the chat...
That's a shitty way to keep people silent and prevent dissent or questions you don't want to or can't answer. I still don't believe their intentions are to run away with as much money as possible and exit scam. They wouldn't announce it if that is the idea.
