Not impossible - if you know C, call CreateProcess() with CREATE_NO_WINDOW flag. Just call WinMain.

Any way to get this to work similar to cgminer, without a CMD window? There's no way. When Windows starts the application it looks into it and sees it's a console application. It pops up a console. This is the correct behavior. Yes, it would be possible to modify it so there would be a sgminer-noconsole and yes, it's also possible to modify it so it spawns a console only on request but most people isn't interested in moving the miner that way.

Switching topics: why is suprnova.cc using MYR "ring logo" for pretty much everything?

It has always been low income. The bottom idea was to cover costs and buy you a couple of beers per week max. It's sad we don't even get there.
The "get mining get rich" mindset was born because of the guys CPU-mining BTC when a pizza was worth 10kBTC, or GPU-mining them when they were 1$ each. Those guys were doing the right thing at the right time, not exactly obvious!

ASIC is not the problem, GPU mining would have ended up exactly the same given enough time. Mega GPU mining farms will inevitable rise. I think it is worth noticing as long as computation stays in the real of mass-produced hardware, it keeps pouring money in a pressure cooker which will help other applications as well. At the very least, financing new process nodes in volumes. I think there's considerable value in keeping stuff on general hardware.

I don't understand. Cannot you just do a tipping Extravaganza like myr +/u/meat_body_soul? What reddit forum limitation are you talking about?

Have you tried sgminer? I see bfgminer includes .cl kernels but I also see it focuses on FPGA/ASIC. Maybe it does not support GPU anymore? I recall using it... about 10 months ago.

You are very naive thinking something based on sound cryptography is intrinsically less secure than something based on obscurity. If the records are ... not there... I wonder if that's an acceptable solution.
I don't care if you think those members are "known and well respected". I don't believe anyone without doing my research first.

Maybe it's going on the integrated VGA?

the price is stable, like steel /me likes Halving in a few months mmmm

It seems to me people here believes security through obfuscation is an acceptable solution. It has been demonstrated to be problematic in many, many cases. Cryptography is not "just a twist". It is a sound concept, every time an hash is compromised it is considered a major achievement. Why are most anon technologies not "on the chain"? Because claiming security though obfuscation is way easier. "I promise you I won't release your data". What technologies are you talking about? Why are the most respected and talented developers not choosing to have the "on chain anon"? Who are you talking about?

Are Bushido's problems monetary in nature?

Considering all the delays this sucks big time. On the pro side, I suppose this means they don't use them for their internal mining? Of course not! They probably have better builds for internal use!

The algo switch is coming (don't know when since bushido can't work on it right now) but it will probably help the price but algo switch alone won't help much if the community is not willing to push things forward. We need to look at Dogecoin for a good example of the power of a community. I agree. The whining on /r/vertcoin is just bad. People claim such nonsensical stuff. Apparently now VTC has "failed its premise of ASIC resistance" because it'll get a couple of months of ASIC mining. Those guys probably live in a perfect world where nothing ever went wrong to them. Believe it or not, I think having a couple of months of ASIC mining will be beneficial to the alts ecosystem as a whole. I hope VTC will recover from the blow.

In general you should have an algo for each different "audience".
Albeit I fully support MYR, I hope they are considering new algos. Nonetheless, pure cryptography-derived algos lack the degree of flexibility required to be GPU resistant. They will be GPU ported sooner or later and when that happens... it'll be end of CPU party.

everything is open source, do whatever you think it has to be done Do you think it would be good for your community? As low-midrange cards usually don't have any issue with temperature (themselves) I think this could benefit the casual user (Windows, AMD GCN only).

For mining to stay at homes, it has to be so little profitable big investments have better alternatives yet enough profitable to let you pay for at least the running costs. Because residential electricity is usually more expensive I see those two conditions very difficult to happen at the same time. To sustain the costs, coin value must rise higher than difficulty. Might have worked for BTC but surely won't happen for any alt. Except in short term maybe, PnD "is proven to work".

I was honestly thinking about writing a different Fresh algo implementation (I'd call it Warm) but I guess that would defeat the purpose.

I'm asking me the very same things. Ok, I suppose someone might find comfortable in buying a dildo online. That's ok.
Yet when I think about say ring signatures, I don't even know why should I accept them as a retailer. If a customer sends me an email asking "did you receive my money" I don't even know what to reply. This just does not do any sense to me.

Proof of Walk? I greatly support Nintendo did something like this in some animal crossing I think. It would count the number of steps you did in a day and give your town 1 MW of free electricity per step... or something involving electricity. Very, very good idea, too bad it cannot be real.
