Yup. Reddit is better!
382  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] [FRSH] FreshCoin | NEW ALGO! (lowest energy usage) | POM | FRESH online!* on: November 15, 2014, 09:17:15 AM
Hello!
Today is hopefully a good day for some FRESH users as they are given choice. I have decided to add FRESH algo to my miner in a new implementation I've dubbed "warm".
This miner is geared towards occasional users who happen to mine while doing their business. It's not quite a "don't make me think" miner but rather a miner with technical details hidden.

Windows 7 and AMD GCN only.

If it works for you, donations are welcome to FmXLkNdDAZHJFof1wnkBjGbv5LYHN2mh9Y .

Initial testing seems to suggest this new fresh implementation prefers low-end hardware.
A first part of online documentation will be made available hopefully today.
383  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [FACT] Anon coins will never work ! on: November 12, 2014, 04:38:49 PM
No, I don't see the similarity at all. If I'm called in a lawsuit I can prove that I sent the coins. Case dismissed.
Dismissed if the other end trusts you. Here is how is going to unfold in some (legislation specific) scenario.
You will be asked to provide proof you sent the coins. At this point you have two choices:
  • embark on a long, time, effort and money consuming journey to ensure everyone understands your signature 100% secure and reproducible. Good luck with the lawyers.
  • handle your private key so the procedure can be reproduced by a third party
In case this is not clear. You cannot just declare things, proof must be produced by third party. Mathematical proof has the same value of a simple declaration. You would get the very same protection... unless you first obtain full understanding of the technical properties involved. Some legislation systems do not allow you to produce proof by your side. That is, you can declare the numbers add up, but until verified by third party, that will be considered little more than opinion.

How it works in oldschool banking systems: banks gets queried, checks clearance, provides results (or not, in some cases).
How it works in BTC-like chains. Details are here.

If I were called in a lawsuit about you having sent or not sent coins, I couldn't prove a damn thing. I guess I'd be in trouble in that unlikely scenario.
Glad to see you find "unlikely" those things happen more than once to me already, to the point I've once paid lawyers to let everyone know I shelled out money (the declaration was made public, it had my name, place of birth, address and exact sum paid). I guess as a customer I would just not use Anon in this case... question is why should I accept it as a seller at that point because I have also been contacted by customers a few times to confirm their payments.

Let's put this in another way. Because I really need to understand this (sorry for derailing the privacy centered thread, feel free to rm/ignore).

Say I have three customers, A,B,C. Each due to pay 1 currency unit to receive item X from me.
Deadline is met. I have two coins.
In the XMR announcement I saw pictures which had question marks at the receiver side.

Service communication for Windows GCN users.
It is confirmed new driver broke my miner big way. This is currently already fixed and I will prepare a release in the next days which will include new algos.

In the meanwhile, the new grs-myr kernel has been released as well as ported to a special sgminer build. This build does not exist officially and there's no support but if that works for you please let me know ... but pointing your miners to DEe8eXkxWrrJCV1Lt7k1t5etZT2sSzoZBZ for an hour or two!  Wink

Sent 5 FRSH - 1% fee   Cheesy

Please confirm when you receive it.
Thank you marcetin, something must be seriously wrong with the network here because I still haven't got them. I got the FRSH from the pool however: I think it took a couple of hours!  Shocked
I suspect my new ISP might be heavily filtering ports, I have noticed some serious caching and it sure isn't very happy with my traffic lately!
Ok, it turns out 5 FRSH - 1% is 4.95 so it really was there dumb me!

Thank you very much!

A gift for Fresh will hopefully come soon, good to have choices for users!

That reads like some good thinking usukan.

389  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [FACT] Anon coins will never work ! on: November 11, 2014, 06:46:19 PM
Anyway, if I want a third party to purposely be able to verify I paid something... how do I do that?

Thats no problem with Monero, works the same as you sign with a bitcoin address (just cryptograhically a bit more complicated); that of course doesn´t work with stuff like darkcoin.

So that's basically saying the whole Ring Signatures stuff is FUD?
390  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Help Feathercoin, Run a full Node on a Raspberry Pi on: November 11, 2014, 06:44:54 PM
Thumbs up!
I think I missed an important part: Raspberry starts at... I've heard on anandtech there's one starting at 20$ but that lacks Ethernet so not what I want.
A friend of mine got one for experimentation, I think he paid it 40 shipped.
391  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [FACT] Anon coins will never work ! on: November 11, 2014, 02:33:52 PM
Governments being forced to use Bitcoin for the transparency it provides is a nice idea, but it's not going to happen without a lot of bloodshed... and 99% of the population don't have the balls, backbone or the brains any more. Blame the estrogen and flouride and whatever other shit they put in tapwater and the food chain... the Zombie apocalypse has already happened.  Cheesy
I don't know why you put a smile there. It's not even half as exciting as a real zombiepocalypse and I do have an axe  Cool

To the original debate.

Do you know what I don't get about those anon coins?

I take for granted those guys are all Russian journalists or activists in oppressive regimes. It's clearly obvious!

Anyway, if I want a third party to purposely be able to verify I paid something... how do I do that?

Some weeks ago I was called by a moron who asked me to pay 2500+ for something he did 3 years ago! Good thing he did not went ahead.

GPU mining is fun while ASIC mining is boring, that's fact Wink.
/me agrees!  Cool
393  Other / Off-topic / Re: What Browser You Use on: November 10, 2014, 11:18:26 AM
Chrome for daily use, firefox for serious things!

Why not chrome also for serious things?
Because webkit cuts some corners here and there in presentation. The way it draws (for example) collapsed table borders is debatable IMHO. In my specific case, two collapsed dotted borders ended up being rendered as solid.

Nonces are not running out rare. It happend all the time.
Shocked What linearIntensity are you using?

The web interface crashes in general. I start the miner and after that i enable the webinterface.
If i copy the url (because in IE dont work) and paste it into FF miner immediately after getting response from webinterface miner crashes.
That's indeed very interesting. I've had this problem very sporadically but I never managed to reproduce. I suspected this happened because of my AV but so far I never managed to get a grasp on this problem it is just too rare on my system.

IE will not be supported. FF is the only browser committing to be a serious application platform with Mozilla doing an almost awesome job at documentation. It is the only browser I will officially support. Some concessions are made to desktop Webkit.
397  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Probably an error on: November 08, 2014, 04:53:27 PM
The latest sgminer update did not include yescrypt.
Does that mean there was one but they pulled it back (hopefully as it ran like shit  Wink ) or just didn't exist?
398  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: hashrate to go in a different place! on: November 08, 2014, 04:48:34 PM
can someone share hashrates for 280x

is that right?

Yes your link is right
No it is not!
Don't use that link!
This is the old MYR database. They migrated to google spreadsheets a couple of months ago.
Spreadsheets offer several advantages. Adding data is easier and faster AND you can sort or compare more easily.

Only quirk is: CPU, GPU and ASIC go in different files but I'm positive it's a step forward.

CPU spreadsheet
GPU spreadsheet
ASIC spreadsheet
399  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: whoops! on: November 08, 2014, 04:45:08 PM
First issue:
(34 out of 32 nonces)
Second issue is that miner will crash if i want to open the webinterface.
Indeed, the github fix only produces a valid config file. I honestly never expected to run out of nonces as I usually find no more than 2 per scan.
Is running out of nonces rare? I assume it happens at start or after a while?
I assume the web interface crashes after it ran out of nonce buffers or does it crash in general?

Suprnova has a GBSTY pool. Ok.
Under "getting started" it lists a GPU miner available  Huh

I cannot see anything with yescrypt in it but since this forum search feature is shit I guess I would ask you guys for a double check.
