If this is the case, you could try commenting out each addnode one at a time, and then re-starting the wallet, until you find the "guilty" node.

Simply comment out one node by adding # to the front of the line (#120.34.97.168:7206), and re-start the wallet. If that doesn't help comment out the next addnode line in the same way, and re-start again. I would leave each line commented out until the wallet syncs, and then if you want, you can uncomment the ones that didn't seem to help (again - one at a time) to make sure that they don't cause the problem to recur. Or - if it syncs, you can leave the ones that were commented out alone, or just remove them from the conf file altogether.

There has been a misunderstanding.

I, the developer, am saying that the seed node list in the client included a node which was no longer active. It has since been removed and replaced with a stable one.

The nodes listed above, are all active on the network currently, useful if anybody using code compiled before the I made the change has problems.

Thank you for your suggestion to the community, it is useful.

i compiled from source, does that make any difference? (not having the ip's then?).

No difference. I think I may know what this is actually, one of the 'stable' nodes provided was not stable, if your client tries to connect to that one it'll stall for 100 attempts.
I will remove it from the seed list - complete
... and do another release as soon as I can.
463  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Bitmark on: July 31, 2014, 05:33:16 PM
Thank you for your kind words and support.

This project is described in reverse, because of the forum we are in, and also described inadequately because of shortfalls in my own editorial and marketing skills.

The project is to create a scalable and massively viral reputation backed monetary system which increases the fluidity of money via off chain micro-transactions between individuals based on the value of their every day actions. A system who's usage is already an every day concept used by everybody on the web, and who's implementation and integration leads to simple adoption by anybody willing, technical or not. The concept is sound and described in detail with innumerable applications to multiple avenues of every day life and business. Underneath that is the boring but required cryptographic currency part (Bitmark).

Instead the project is described as a currency with some side projects, hardly inspiring.

The problem with funding, is that I believe in the merits of the system with such conviction that I am prepared to lose everything in order to see it come to fruition - although I would prefer not to. The project has it's own momentum and I am committed to that, and must move with it, albeit moving faster than I had anticipated. Once the seed is planted and everyday people see how the simple system affects them, it will change things positively for people around the world.

It is worth doing, and will be done at any cost. If anybody wants to help in any form, then that is precisely what it is, help, which is always appreciated.

We have tried all approaches to ethical funding that have been proposed. Unless there are any more novel ideas, all that remains is for an ethical philanthropist with some belief in what is proposed, to sponsor the next round of work alleviating some pressure, and optionally acquire some of the base currency. By doing so they would secure the project's momentum, my personal well being, and their own investment.

any working addnode ip's please?

They are all baked in to the client, consider checking your firewall or any software which can block the application first. If that doesn't fix it, please send me your debug.log through pm.
464  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Marketplace (Altcoins) / Re: Read a document. on: July 31, 2014, 04:46:15 PM
Good luck with your project!

Luck is not so important. I firmly believe that the concept is sound, and that it will have a measurable positive impact on every day people. The final incarnation which people use may not be this exactly, but the seed is there, has merit, and once it is planted it will grow. So, it will be done at any cost.

I recognise that my editorial and marketing skills are sub par, maybe someone who agrees that it is worth doing will join and bring those skills to the project in the future.

Warmest Regards, and thank you for your help,

Mark

That is a move worthy of respect. I look forward to seeing what Peter produces!
466  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Marketplace (Altcoins) / Re: Read a document. on: July 31, 2014, 02:27:16 PM
Thank you to all who reviewed.

My offer was to provide 40 BTM to each reviewer, not BTC. However I will honour your requests for BTC instead, please allow until the end of today for me to acquire BTC, I will update this thread with transaction identifiers once sent.

467  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Bitmark on: July 31, 2014, 02:20:50 PM
OK. The coin is on an exchange now.  The free market is now available to all.

I am glad the exchange question is now solved, and also that the markets have organized fairly.

Here are some short facts about market health

  • 274000 BTM in existence
  • 14200 (5.2%) BTM on markets
  • 6360 (2.35%) BTM offered around the median production price
  • 1380 (0.5%) BTM sold

I consider this to be very healthy, thank you for your confidence.

Poloniex listed Bitmark BTM.

https://www.poloniex.com/exchange/btc_btm

Thank you for taking the time to review the code thoroughly and for your support.
469  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Marketplace (Altcoins) / Re: Read a document. on: July 31, 2014, 12:43:07 AM
Thank you all, BTM or BTC addresses please. BTC will take a few hours longer, as I do not hold any BTC and will need to buy some. I will confirm with transaction id's once sent.

Still one more, it would be good to hear some feedback on the general concept also.
470  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Marketplace (Altcoins) / Read a document. on: July 30, 2014, 10:56:47 PM
I would like some third party reviewers to read a document, and give feedback.

https://github.com/project-bitmark/marking/wiki

To say thank you, I will offer 40 BTM each to the first four people who read the document and give constructive feedback.

Mark

40 BTM is 2 block rewards, 10% of all I own, and would cost just over 0.01 BTC to mine

Project roadmap... is it required to start? does trello provide this?

I think Trello would cover the roadmap, at least in the early stages. Once the project gets bigger, it might be important to say "This is our plan. We will do this step next and deliver it by this date." But, I don't think that's important right now.

Would you consider the GetMarked project as part of the core of Bitmark? Or is it a separate project/application built on top of the Bitmark technology? If it's not part of the core, I would split it out more on the website. It is weaved very close to the core Bitmark information. I would categorize it under the 3rd party software, or possibly under a new "official software" category. Since I imagine more projects will be built later, I would hate to see the core Bitmark information get lost in the sea of other Bitmark projects.

We will have a more formal project overview and roadmap soon, Medic is working on that.

Your getMarked question is very pertinent and we must make this clear. From the new OP, it is described as follows

Project Bitmark
Project Bitmark is an initiative to create an every day use alternative currency.

  • A stable and balanced cryptographic currency named Bitmark
  • A massive adoption programme under the banner of Marking

Bitmark is the core cryptographic currency, it's primary objectives are to be safe, secure, fast, actively developed, and easy to integrate for services and adopters. read more
Marking is a novel adoption initiative which enables every day people to use cryptographic currency in every aspect of their lives. read more

Under the banner of 'Bitmark' comes the standard client, api stuff, block explorers, mining, tools to use the block chain, and all the normal crypto currency things we see.
Under the banner of 'Marking' comes everything to do with wide spread user/service/business adoption and it is our primary focus. I encourage every one who hasn't to read the Marking document which details every aspect of how we will approach wide spread adoption.

The adoption side feeds requirements back in to Bitmark as time progresses, and Bitmark development will be responsive to the requirements of the varied user base provided by Marking.

I seek to refine and clarify this description further until such a time that it is no longer needed.

474  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Bitmark on: July 30, 2014, 03:05:13 PM
However, I would like to see live mini stats in a little box somewhere on the mainpage. I mean price, net hash, blocks info, even random live data (I guess we have plenty of ways to mirror some cool numbers on that). A small chart showing some relevant function progress. Those are things people like to see, and appreciate. I like monitoring everything (who doesn't?). If I have a small panel with live relevant data about the coin while I browse the portal, queue on IPM, or post some thoughts at the forum, it would be super cool and useful resource, I think.

These were actually my own priorities to have ready also, almost all of the things you suggest are ready to have charts made and added Smiley We have all the live data from the entire network, and the IPM pool, ready to utilize, streamed as real time updates also where applicable.

So far I have three dashboard views in production:
1. IPM dashboard
2. Network and Mining overview - health, hashrate, difficulty, estimated next difficulty, mining calculators, info for miners, links to pools and documents etcetera
3. Block explorer, to be more like blockchain.info by the time I am finished

From what you suggest I would also propose:
4. project overview - commits, new integrations, posts / tweets, comments on things like trello etcetera
5. a mini overview of 1-5

Media kit. 2(again, for now)

Step by step guides are good for newcomers. +1

I wholeheartedly agree, to cover things like using the client, backing up, restoring, generating addresses, etcetera.

This is out with my set of skills, do any of you have the skills to do this, perhaps collaboratively, or know anybody that may?

I see we are close to refining a specification of what is required, perhaps a few more replies and we can propose something.

Current Topic: Please all list what you feel it is important to provide on the Bitmark website, perhaps with a number 1-10 of importance beside each item.
476  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Bitmark on: July 30, 2014, 01:01:16 PM
in my view the web site should be the place where someone - especially those who doesn t know anything about crypto scene- can find these informations:

My world view, is that Marking and getMarked will be the public face for the every day person, with the complex crypto part abstracted away. Think Bitmark as the core, and Marks/Marking as the daily use front.

For that reason, I suppose the Bitmark website for now is targeted more at the crypto aware, and is to serve three purposes:

1. To send those seeking information to that information quickly (miners to pool, people to downloads, etc)

2. To overview the project to people like those in this thread, to developers, service providers, and interested parties so that may join and discuss our approaches, become part of the community.

3. As a channel to quickly notify as to what we are doing, and seek input from anybody who is willing.

Perhaps the word 'portal' is more applicable, until such a time that it becomes a community, and then a technical resource area.
477  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Bitmark on: July 30, 2014, 12:10:17 PM
people are getting to the point where we would love to be able to just link people to bitmark.co, with or without a discussion area. Especially considering we already have this thread and IRC.

Okay, let us provide that then.

Please all list what you feel it is important to provide on the website, perhaps with a number 1-10 of importance beside each item.

Collaboratively defining what is required will help us not to miss anything obvious.
478  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Bitmark on: July 30, 2014, 11:46:12 AM
I definitely think there should be an informational page up as soon as possible. The discourse community is important but the website should not be depend on it imo.

Having bitmark.co to link to rather than a 43 page thread here is important I think. While the OP is great, some people might prefer a different format.

I should clarify that 'discourse' is community software, something we will use as our own discussion forum on bitmark.co

Do you all feel it is wise to give priority to the creation of an informational website at bitmark.co, as zadinga said 'to give us a face', adding in later our community software? Please confirm.
479  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Bitmark on: July 30, 2014, 11:17:27 AM
Milestone We have slowly reached a difficulty of 56, with an average hash rate of over 2 GH/s, there are only a handful of scrypt coins at this difficulty or higher.

Questions

Our website will have a large structure, with many resources and informative views. It will also house our discourse based community, with marking support.

The question is one of priority.

Should the website be created and put live quickly, providing a coherent informative place where people can join us and overview what Bitmark is about, with the discourse community added later?
Or perhaps we should stick with the current plan, to provide the discourse community and everything else, all at the same time?

What are the advantages and disadvantages of each?
480  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Can a block be created without the reward transaction? on: July 30, 2014, 03:47:42 AM
Also the maximum number of halvings is hard coded, so once that number has passed that, the reward is set to 0.

The block reward is the sum of the block subsidy and all the transaction fees from all the transactions included in the block.

Therefore, once the block subsidy reaches 0.00000000 BTC, the reward will be only the transaction fees.

Yes, we should be careful with our use of terms. I meant to refer to the following code:

Quote
if (halvings >= 64) return nFees;
