I'll take them all (100)!

Patience. I have been asked this all over again and there is a queue of folks that need some more chips to get their mining boards fully populated.

I will have some more chips to offer shortly, preparing an official announcement soon.

I would be in for 6 to fill out a 16 board.. ordered in the first batch ..

sorry guys late to the post, can one still order the devices, what is the current price, is their a site that list all this info (one must hate to read all the threads all the time).

Today (2013.06.19) 1 Avalon chip was delivered to me from zefir.
It is sample chip from batch #1.
Thank you, zefir!

This is how my Avalon chip looks like:

I was in first batch also, are these being distributed now?
464  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: KnCMiner Openday Wednesday 5th & Monday 10th June on: June 06, 2013, 06:52:23 PM
I find it odd that not much info has come out, and its been around 24hrs now.. is their a moratorium on info till x date Smiley

There's just not much info to tell.

  • Are ORSoC part of KnCMiner? Yes they are.
  • Is ORSoC a legit company? Yes it is.
  • Is ORSoC's area of expertise desgning FPGAs, ASICs and embedded systems? Yes it is.
  • Is there a working FPGA prototype hashing at 6.2GH/s? Yes there is.
  • Is there an ASIC prototype? No there isn't.
  • What's the plan? To make the ASIC from the FPGA, order the chips with preorder money, and send them directly to assembly.
  • Are there any gerbers for the ASIC PCB's, etc. that can be showed to us? No, they say they ASIC PCBs will be just based on the FPGA PCBs.
  • Is this feasible? Mmmm, yeah, why not. That was BFL's plan too - right?
  • Is this extremely expensive, knowing they are planning to do 28nm? Yes it is. VERY expensive.
  • Is this project at least x10 bigger in terms of revenue streams, etc. compared to anything else ORSoC has done before? Yes it is. It's a huge project for a tiny company.

Guys, we knew that before the Open Day. Honestly, there's not much more to be said. You want to know if they are legit? Yes, they are, as legit as BFL was. Will they succeed? Don't know, but they seem to have the appropriate skills. Would they be able to deliver in the promised timeframe? Nobody knows. We just know that everybody else (included Avalon) missed the deadlines.

Summing up: this is a gamble, boys, and the odds to win this gamble are the same that you had before the Open Day.

FULL STOP.

Think they will need to update the web page because I was also wondering about refund policy..

Anyone have any recommendations.. I know Mt Gox is around but bank transfers alone to banks can cost $15-20 per transfer.. any ideas on another way to go about this?
471  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [TENTATIVE] - Stumptown Miners - Avalon PCB Assembly - West Coast USA on: May 31, 2013, 05:36:28 PM
I think rye is just setting up escrow so he can accept taking funds now, I'm pretty sure he's getting ready as bkkcoins is finishing up his prototype boards within 4-5 days.

Yep, that's the case. JohnK has my identity information and I'm currently working on a small website that will allow people to place their orders. There was a miscommunication between JohnK and me, though. The escrow we're looking at setting up will have the payments going directly to me so he doesn't have to deal with converting a bunch of XBT (I just discovered the ISO standards thread: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=179881.0) to USD all the time. If I reneg on our deal, then JohnK releases my identity information.

Is this an acceptable setup for everyone? The funds will have to pass through my hands and into the plants' hands at some point prior to delivery anyway, as I don't have enough funds on hand to pay for batches of 100 miners all by myself.

Have you looked on ebay for "4-layer PCB" printers? The prices and quality is a LOT better than most US listed prices. (Not for a prototype board though.)

I have no trouble believing this. In looking for a local supplier, I'm hoping to minimize turnaround time, not price. I'm going to be a little more expensive than most of the other deals, but I'm aiming to be faster in return. Time is XBT when you're mining.

BTW, im working on a website where people like you who are providing services can take orders for your product, track orders, send out emails or updates to status of users who have ordered, etc.. etc..

Let me know if interested, I have something working behind the scenes yet but haven't shown anyone.

472  Bitcoin / Hardware / Anyone in the SF/Bay Area putting together Boards from Avalon Chips? on: May 29, 2013, 05:36:14 PM
I'm getting a few chips in and was wondering if anyone in the San Francisco Bay Area is putting together boards based upon any of the DIY projects that are currently in production.

Was thinking of doing the same after seeing some of the group buy spreadsheets Wink I think it would be good to create a shopping platform that has a built-in bitcoin payment module. Maybe there is something out there already?

Yea I have something in place and working on the skeleton of the site.. always welcome to have people help
476  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [ATT] DIY ASIC Project developers on: May 09, 2013, 04:59:37 PM
I'm not planning on replacing github where the projects are hosted, just thinking of providing a better location for diy project developers to track their orders, allow users to see what they have ordered and such.

So for example on this site,

Lots of threads about group buys.. and the policy behind them, someone as a group buy person you then you send your btc to a user and hope he gets it, and replies to you, some times you have to sign your message etc, then that person has to keep track of all the owners who bought it, what batch etc..

I'm offering up a way that users can register, diy or people who want to set up group buy can monitor, have the system keep track of all oders for them, provide feedback to those users easily, send out news letters of updates, info progress..

sure this board kinda works, but I'm trying to remember how many asic chips did I order from what group, and what diy project am I having my stuff shipped to.. whats the stats of all of that..

so just trying to provide a better interface for both the project or group projects and the users who want the product.

477  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [ATT] DIY ASIC Project developers on: May 09, 2013, 04:40:20 AM
I like you watch the threads but look at it this way..

If your creating a diy project, its not easy to keep track of everyone that might want to order, aka get on a pre order list, submit your donation, get validation back.. its an easier way for the main people doing the work to keep track of things.  For the end user its also a cleaner area and also ability to keep track of your order that you put in with sed user.

just throwing it out..
478  Bitcoin / Hardware / [ATT] DIY ASIC Project developers on: May 08, 2013, 09:26:07 PM
I'm in the process of creating a portal outside of this form to provide you with better ways to keep your project in sync, track the users who are ordering or want to preorder and provide the ability for users to ask questions or keep tags, or be alerted.

I would like to combine the current set of projects going on, its a bit of a mess to keep track of progress here at times.

thoughts would be:

  • News Section: Allows project owners to post news, screen shots
  • Projects Page: custom area for the diy projects and their owners, comments, groups posting, notification sign up
  • Projects Page: custom form to allow users to subscribe or preorder with their wallet address
  • custom admin area where project owners can track the list or orders, preorders, whos paid
  • bitcoin wallet address verification, along with bitcoin signed message to verify that its u
  • etc

just spit balling to give a cleaner area for diy projects to live, not wanting to replace this but provide a better method of showcasing work, order, preorders, verifying bitcoin address data.. allowing users to subscribe, mailing lists that project owners can send out to those who subscribe etc..

thoughts?
479  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Install scripts for eloipool + bitcoind private pool on Ubuntu 12.04 on: May 07, 2013, 11:12:46 PM
the reason this is needed on a pure ubuntu install

Code:
add-apt-repository

its not a valid command until you run sudo apt-get install python-software-properties

Your script will run but will install the older version of bitcoind..

480  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Install scripts for eloipool + bitcoind private pool on Ubuntu 12.04 on: May 06, 2013, 10:08:03 PM
Zero,

You should updated your script and put before the bitcoind install for ubuntu script

sudo apt-get install python-software-properties

this allows that command to run properly and install the proper bitcoind, otherwise running this by default gets a super super super old version of bitcoind.

quick guide for anyone..

get the latest ubuntu 12.0x server

sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get upgrade
sudo apt-get install ssh (if you connect via ssh)

sudo apt-get install python-software-properties (allows for zero script to run)

get and download and unzip his script.

Go into the script folder, and run bash ubuntu-install.sh (going from memory)
Edit the bitcoind.conf file in the folder.. change user and pass
go back to scripts folder, run bash run-bitcoind.sh (you have to let bitcoind run to get the block the full block chain before running the pool)!!!!!

to see the current block chain info bitcoind -rpcuser=<username> -rpcpassword=<password> this is from bitcoind , u will see block count this should match http://blockexplorer.com/q/getblockcount number, it can take hours.. dont get ahead of your self you need this..

once you have a match then you can run the pool.. enjoy..
