4601  Economy / Speculation / Re: Is bitcoin stabalizing again or will it plummet even further than the weekend? on: August 23, 2012, 02:53:16 AM
Forgive me if this has already been speculated elsewhere, but has anyone considered the possibility of pirate sending large numbers of coins to invalid addresses to cause maximum carnage?

the rest of the existing coins will be worth more, so the only people losing would be Pirate and his investors.

Hmmm, it depends how many he trashes, the rate he does it, the lies he tells about who's really trashing the coins, the nature and timing of the roguish taunting he accompanies the little waves of coin genocides with etc

I mean, I realise the remaining coinbase following a 400 000 BTC flushing would be worth more in the end. In the end. I wouldn't expect a sudden clean jump in value corresponding to the proportion by which the coin supply had reduced, for instance. Sell at $1, 000, 000?

Why the hell would anybody burn that much (nonfiat) money?
4602  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: The gauntlet has officially been thrown down by Trendon Shavers aka. pirateat40 on: August 23, 2012, 02:45:55 AM
Wouldn't someone have to break a contract and have no intention to pay to be considered a scammer? Has there been a contract broken? Is there implied intention to pay?

Yes. I know you have a lax understanding of what a deadline is, but Pirate failed to repay bitlane on time and then again on his second self-given deadline. That's a broken contract already, regardless of possible future mitigation.

Fair enough. I suppose he does deserve a scammer tag at least until he pays.

Could we maybe instead have "naive and greedy" tag for all the pirate's "investors". This way all the new (and old) scammers could concetrate on working those marks and leave the rest of this forum alone maybe? Just a thought...  Wink

Yup... I'm so greedy I paid out my pass through customers from my personal funds even though my terms say I only owed them 25% until pirate paid up.  All together, I paid out 189% of what was paid in to me.  But sure throw us all together and make blanket statements.

List of public wages updated: http://goo.gl/Os84M

Wages?!? Are we getting jobs with the magazine?
4604  Bitcoin / Meetups / Re: Look at a pirate, eye to eye if you dare. on: August 23, 2012, 02:24:53 AM
It is visible, but the account has been recently deactivated (before it was possible to friend request him).  The two pictures that were publicly viewable are also no longer visible.

No, its a privacy setting.  You have to be within his L2 of friends to try to friend him.  You should try it.
Fair enough.  Bottom line is it was changed very recently.

It was changed at least a month ago, so before the withdrawals/payments seized up.

Edit: BTW, nimda do you have money on this bet? no? fuck off.  how's that?
wat

I show you the math behind a unique hedging scenario and you tell me to "fuck off?"

wat

DO YOU HAVE MONEY ON THIS BET?  NO?  GTFO of this thread!
Lol calm down. I have 0.1 bet for shits n giggles (not only am I not a betting man, but I have no mouth to put my money in, so to speak) and I'm offering free escrow/proxy for this bet.

So then why are you wanting to harass real bettors?  Either you are a troll or a .... hmm... don't know yet.

He never harassed anyone.  Look again.  All he did was express regret for missing a profit opportunity.  If you took it as sarcastic, that's your bad.  You've obviously emotional about this subject.

And yes, I have a bet Tongue.

I don't believe you're mentioned once in my posts.  Who are you again?

Someone who calls people out when they are being a dick for no reason.

Other than that, I'm notme.  Nice to meet you.

Thanks to all of you that came and sorry I couldn't spend more time with everyone.  I know a few of you were there and didn't get a chance to meet you.

Here is everyone that showed up.

We will do it again!!!

IMO because of certain links and other personal accounts that have been privately messaged to me,

I believe with low-to-medium confidence that Pirate is the guy on the far right in this pic.

I also believe this could be a fake pic, maybe from a few years ago or something he just posted for lulz.

Would love to hear Goat / BurtW or anyone else that claimed to have been at this meetup to confirm.

Try again.

So basically we're still waiting because bitlane won't leave pirate alone long enough to get anything done?

Could you elaborate on what bitlane could possibly do to delay payment?

The more time pirate spends responding to irate pms the less time he has to get his shit together.  Every minute spent on pms is a minute he loses for doing productive work.

Raise your hand if you've ever bought an actual stock on the stock market before

Okay, I'll raise my hand if I have.  Can you see me? Tongue

4612  Economy / Long-term offers / Re: Bitcoin Savings & Trust - Debt Outstanding List (5 reported). on: August 22, 2012, 08:02:21 PM
Amount expected: none of your business
Date account created: early
Type of Account: direct
Funding transaction ID: several of them, none of which will be shared

Don't forget BitcoinMAX......allegedly they have 100,000+ BTC tied up.

Is there any proof of that number?

I also have a recently created (within the past 3 weeks) bitcoinmax account and there are 133k BTC ahead of me.  There are about 70 additional accounts older than mine.

what is the solution to this?...  slower executions?...

its something i wonder about all the time

2 simple steps.

1. Require orders to be on the book for a minimum of 2 seconds before they can be removed.
2. Require proof of capital for the organization placing the order to show they can fill all outstanding orders (just like how every bitcoin trading site reserves the funds when you place an order).
4616  Economy / Speculation / Re: Crash!!!! on: August 22, 2012, 07:37:54 PM
It is cheap for people having too less Bitcoins, and it is expensive for people having too much of them. So it depends ...

If your bitcoin are too expensive for you, just hand them to me  Grin

You can get a couple of them for 12 USD for one, or you can sell some of them to me for 8 USD. At 10 USD I have exactly the BTC I need, so no way to trade now.

What's your goal? funds_usd * exchange_rate = funds_btc or something of that sort?
It's exactly like this. It's boring, it's stabilizing, it's social. Any manipulation is good for me, I'm competing against it.

If price rises from 10 USD to 12 USD (20% gain), I'm selling up to 20% of my Bitcoins (less mostly, but I'm selling). Same with all other assets (Gold, Shares).

That's no way to lose money Wink.

ONLY because I like spreadsheets:

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AgLArulDe_AldDJkRFByZ0hUWk9GUHlCTWpHNWFQQlE

So far, 5231.89114457BTC ($52,057 USD)says that pirateat40 was running a scam

Just to be clear, my bet does not indicate I believe pirateat40 was running a scam, just that I appreciate MNW taking a stand and will gladly give him a portion of my funds once they are returned.

Then perhaps we could expect those steps to be walked on.   Wink
not gonna say much, but I'm sitting cash heavy just for that reason...

alot of us are doing that

waiting for new lows, is kinda risk free, right?  Wink

Please point us the the post that you received the ban for!  Grin

I said dont ask,

its a long and not very interesting story...
I found it interesting before you edited it away, but I guess I'm just a nerd like that.

Code:
[04:17] <@pirateat40> I'm handling the process as fast as possible.  At no point did I say it would be fast and easy, I said it would be done.  Thanks for your patience, I'm always watching.  Stay tuned.

Amazing how one could just refund the first few lenders as an act of good faith and just shut us all up. Instead... I think he likes the attention. I admit i find it all amusing though so it is a two way street.

That wouldn't shut you up and you know it.  He'll just wait until he's ready because full repayment is the only thing that will silence the peanut gallery.

But wouldn't a slow start help quiet everyone?

He's either asleep or headed there soon.  10 payments then 8 hours of silence will only create a frenzy.

Notme.. Maybe we are nonchalant about this whole thing because most of us do not send btc to strangers. You sound a bit stressed. Maybe pirate should apologize for his dramatics? It is not us, those who sent him nothing, that started this soap opera. Look in the mirror. You are simply reaping what you sowed.

I'm not worried in the least, just annoyed by people talking out their ass.  I didn't invest more than I can afford to lose, and I've taken out more than I put in.  My pass through customers have already been made whole from my personal funds.  I truly believe I will receive the rest of my funds, but if not I'll be just fine.

Translation: I participated as a proxie to a possible ponzi scheme and am damn proud of it whether i get my bitcoins from pirate or not because I and my customers at least broke even.

Cumulatively my customers made 89% ROI.  I will have that beat by a mile when pirate pays me, but for now I'm sitting on a small return.  I did my due diligence and I know how he made his profits.  He could still potentially scam us all, but he has the capacity to pay back in full.
