4621  Economy / Reputation / Re: Dabs for to offer escrow service? on: April 12, 2023, 07:18:14 AM
That people like him resort to debt does not make me confident that Bitcoin will move us away from the debt-based financial system. Just stop by the lending section for a sample.
We (humanity) will never be without debt, but it's still different than fractional reserve debts. Fiat debts are based on inflation, and get smaller over time. Bitcoin debts on the other hand increase as it's value goes up, which makes it a very risky debt.

Quote
By the way, it seems that it is already late for loan repayment. Do we know if it is due to lack of updates in the lenders' threads or what?
I noticed it too, but we can't know for sure until the lender complains.
4622  Other / Meta / Re: Making new messages more obvious (SMF patch) on: April 12, 2023, 07:10:41 AM
what do you guys think about one-time popup?
I hate popups!

Quote
No one can miss a popup.
That's what makes it so annoying. And that's what makes everyone click them away without reading.

Quote
Or, another great solution may be to receive text notification above the address bar, like, when you receive text notification in place of New Tab (Chrome) text when you receive a message on Facebook.
I haven't seen this. Can you show an example?
4623  Other / Meta / Re: Making new messages more obvious (SMF patch) on: April 11, 2023, 05:07:23 PM
I've noticed that I check my PMs right after logging in, but then only haphazardly after that.
I'm always logged in, and the [1] is quite noticeable whenever I get to the top of the page (usually to click my Watchlist). There's also an email so I really can't miss it. Nevertheless: great effort!

If there are going to be improvements for PMs, I'd like it to be much faster. With 200 pages, it takes about 7 seconds to show when I click MY MESSAGES. And I think it always links to the last page, which means if you have many new PMs, it's easy to overlook the ones on the second last page.

What really grinds my gears, is that the [1] doesn't update (it neither appears not disappears) when I have a tab in Preview. I often keep those open for days, and the [1] stays the way it was when I opened it. But I'm nitpicking here Tongue
4624  Other / Meta / Re: Ninjastic.space - BitcoinTalk Post/Address archive + API on: April 11, 2023, 04:56:55 PM
I think it looks good and it would be interesting if Ninjastic.space homepage could display this information from online users. Something simple, just that it allows a better reading of the information contained in that link.
How? It's just text Tongue And it's incomplete: you can remove your online status from your profile.

I'm surprised by the number of Newbies online! What to think of ConstantWatcher? I'm also surprised to see LoyceBot2 in that list: I don't even remember what I used it for.
4625  Economy / Reputation / Re: [POLL] Question for Lenders concerning loans to enable Ponzi/HYPI etc to occur: on: April 11, 2023, 04:48:10 PM
Perhaps if @theymos or @LoyceV were reading, they could answer the question of (( PONZI/HYIP = Perma-Ban )) ??
Unless they're spamming, I don't think this is a reason to ban users. There's even a board for it:
Investor-based Games (child board of Gambling) - "Games where the main factor is whether or not new "investors" join the game. Also any Bitcoin-denominated investment product with an APY far above the reasonable market rate. " That includes ponzis, HYIP and other "invest and get tons of cash tomorrow" type sites.
4626  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Coinplay CONFISCATING 291mbtc of fair NBA winnings on: April 11, 2023, 01:03:38 PM
They're obviously following the 1xbit business model.
They also have an active signature campaign. @Royse777: please read this scam accusation.
4627  Economy / Reputation / Re: Dabs for to offer escrow service? on: April 11, 2023, 12:55:48 PM
OP is logically correct on the other hand we can't assaisinate someone's character just based on their financial status
If the escrow makes a mistake, he should be able to cover the damage he caused. No matter how good his intentions are, having financial problems make that very difficult.
4628  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Coinplay CONFISCATING 291mbtc of fair NBA winnings on: April 11, 2023, 08:47:32 AM
Coinplay, you still have 22 hours left to answer on the Askgamblers thread, otherwise they will close it and rule in my favour and your rating will be lowered accordingly.
Allow me to quote AskGambler's response:
Quote
Kindly note that should the affected casino operator fail to respond to our email and your complaint within the allocated timeframe, the case will be closed as unresolved. As a direct consequence of such closure, the operator's ranking score on AskGamblers will be decreased accordingly.
I don't think that means they're ruling in your favour, it's just unresolved.

This is Coinplay's resonse (quote shortened):
Quote
The player violated the rules of our site which the player accepted upon registration. We provided all the evidence we could about this. We can't provide more information as it's too sensitive to share it.

In accordance with the rules of the service - we have the right to close the player's account if the player violates our rules, which was revealed by our Risk & Fraud department.
There's no evidence, which doesn't make the casino look good.

4630  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Ultimate Bitcoin Privacy - Discussion on: April 11, 2023, 08:02:21 AM
I tried my best to create an easy-to-understand explanation graphic.
Can you (significantly) increase the resolution? The small font doesn't do it justice.

While discussing Bitcoin privacy and blind certificates, I think this topic (from 2016) never received the attention it deserves: Hiding entire content of on-chain transactions. The same author later implemented it as blackbytes, but it never took off. I'm not quoting the entire post, please just read the topic. I'll only post this summary:
So if I understand correctly, the public block chain is just a "bag of hashes" which cannot be verified or anything by any node or miner.  It is just a block chain of "data".  These data only have meaning for the people receiving "banknote files", which allows them to check the validity of the whole "banknote".  The hashes are in fact nothing else but hashes of "signed transactions", like with bitcoin, except that only the *signature hash* goes on the public block chain, and the actual transaction data remain on the individual banknote file.  Is that the gist ?  In fact, you need, as you say, TWO signatures (or hashes of signatures): one is the transaction signature (including the new beneficiary) and the other is the "spend" signature of simply the previous output.  The first signature (spending signature) makes that you cannot do double spending any more (you have invalidated the file up to the point where you transmit it), and the second signature allows the receiver to have a valid "new address" that he can spend (and only he, because only he has the secret key that goes with it like on bitcoin).

This is indeed a very, very good idea !  Money becomes more "physical" again: it are files !
4631  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Proof of Space with RAM on: April 11, 2023, 06:53:26 AM
I think it possible but will be not efficient since the price of ram is very high
Bitcoin miners aren't cheap either. That literally doesn't matter, since all miners have to deal with it. If it's cheaper, they buy more.
4632  Economy / Reputation / Re: DT1 and DT2 members who have negative feedback (or are banned) on: April 10, 2023, 01:03:23 PM
Ironically their feedback isn't half bad  Tongue
That happens a lot: the feedback was left before the user was tagged as a scammer. A more recent example: yogg's feedback is still okay.

Actually its more than half bad: all bad if you look at trusted feedbacks and 8 out of 14 untrusted are negatives.
I think dragonvslinux was talking about the feedback left by paci.

Starting with *I* use laptops for some crypro & node work.
Many of them do not like being run 24/7/365 the CPU fans are smaller, they in general have less cooling and so on.
Not saying that they can't do it, just that it's not optimal.
Although all true, I've done it for years Smiley Nowadays I don't keep my laptop on 24/7 anymore, but I used to. The "trick" is to get one that doesn't consume too much power, and clean the dust out of the fan on a regular basis. I'm also on my second fan now, and I have a third in stock.

At the end of the day I think we'll lose this battle either way. AI bots will get better, humans will get tired.
That is the future I fear: the internet as we know it will cease to exist. For now, the AI-spam is still the result of "ask question, copy result, post result", but in a few years it could very well be: "Hey AI, create a bunch of accounts on Bitcointalk, start posting, join signature campaigns, and make me money!", and by the time that works, it's a lost cause for humans.

you could tell them to try to find a sig campaign that accepts neg trusted accounts and explain why he wants to join a campaign with neg trust.
Who wants to tie their brand to a negative trusted account?

RAM usage sits at about 99% and never reaches 100% (which seems suspicious).
Is that including cache? If it is, it's normal: RAM is supposed to be used. If it's really used by all running programs, you need more RAM.
To check:
Code:
free -h
total        used        free      shared  buff/cache   available
Mem:           15Gi       1.2Gi       174Mi       0.0Ki        14Gi        14Gi
Swap:         7.4Gi       456Mi
The amount under "used" is what matters, and the amount under "available" is what's available while ignoring file cache.

Becaus the CPU is maxing out only occasionally and because RAM is nearly at max, it seems to me that additional constant usage, such a media server, might become a problem, but additional intermittent usage would not.
Depending on what consumes the CPU, you can play with the niceness or even limit the number of cores a certain application can use to give for instance a media server a higher priority.

It would be just a matter of time before someone starts making larger rams that are capable of doing the job better than the average ram
Or just write it to disk Wink That's how "proof of space" works: you don't need to access the data frequently, so you don't need to have it in RAM.

There's an alternative that exists already: ACIS-resistant protocols that require a large amount of RAM to mine. It still needs processing power, but you can't really avoid that if you don't want the content of the RAM to be stored on disk.

If theymos and I team up again for the 2024 event, then I've got a much better idea that I think basically everyone will enjoy. It's quite a bit more elaborate though and will take around 200 hours of programming (compared to the 50 or so that I could spare this time around).
I have an idea too, I'll PM you Cheesy
