As an example, I made a very simple bash script that triggers a notification if you have any unread personal messages:

Could be useful for custom self-hosted solutions (e.g that require authentication, like the example above) or maybe some kind of subscription newsletter? For example, a signature manager or company could take API keys from interested users and send announcements en mass.

Does this mean I can activate a warning for my incoming PM? That would be great, as I often miss those.
If not, this is because that requires the bot to know my forum password, thus being too risky?

I don't think it's dangerous, it's a bash file that you can run on your pc or raspberry. I think it's a pretty useful script if you receive many personal messages, not very useful if you receive a PM a year, however it's an excellent initiative @TryNinja congratulations

@fillippone If you activate the  "Show a popup when you receive new messages?" option in the PM setting you get  a pop-up every time you get a message. No way to miss one out.

First of all, I never had close to a thousand merits, and then I don't think Satoshi will be back in the future. Yeah, you should report to telegram for not working when it needed most. Telegram played with you. You git fooled by Telegram. So, I would say Congratulations to Telegram Team for successfully fooling TryNinja.

What a great way to start the new month! I received the notification and was like, "Who the f*ck gave me 50 merits?🤷" I tried to click the link about three different times, but it kept taking me to YouTube.
If not for this post, I wouldn't have known how tricky our Tryninja can be.

But this year you only got me to believe that the Bot was having some kind of glitch. 

Nonetheless, I must admit that if you had done some testing beforehand and some little coding to make the message to coincide with the actual number of merits of each user, you could have pulled off something very memorable.

I slept last night expecting some weird things pulled by the forum for this annual event, skimmed through my personal phone and this device upon waking up, saw the 50 merits by satoshi for a youtube video, and my still-sleepy brain can't process it; I poured my morning coffee while mulling over why did satoshi merited me for a YT video, which somehow not reflected on my real count.

I visited meta, where your thread was just couple line below theymos' april fools prank to see what he pulled this year, move on and read couple of replies to my posts, and only after that it dawned to me out of the blue what actually happened.

Good one, I chuckled when the realization hit me as I rushed back to meta to check this thread

I think you didn't fvck this up and I think it's because of the Telegram app. If it worked then I would have fallen from the trick about receiving merit from Satoshi himself but you still got some people though and for me it's a success.

May be the HTML parser behaves differently in Telegram for iphone and Android.

The HTML parser does not only behave this way in Telegram on Iphone or Android. This parser behaves exactly the same way in Telegram on a desktop computer and on a laptop. In other words, everywhere. This message appears the same on any version of Telegram. I don't know about anyone else, but it's the same for me on any device.

Today, when I checked my smartphone, I received message that starts like this: (Merits: <b>1000</b>). I was like, what? What is this? Then NGGYU came up and I was like, whaaaat? This couldn't be supposed to run like this

Don't worry dude it's worked on me, Generally, my daily routine is to check your bot's notifications as soon as I wake up. Today was no exception, and when I saw the notification with sleepy eyes, Merit didn't have much effect on me, but I believed it for a moment that Satoshi came back and jumped and sat on the bed. And then when I clicked on the link with my sleepy eyes, I realized that today is April Fool's day.
Anyway, in my case, you succeeded in making me an April Fool, And Happy April Fool to all.
