4721  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Got my JALAPENO today mining at 5.9 Gh/s with some tweaks on: June 01, 2013, 12:36:33 PM
interesting, Ill have to try that.

my jally runs 5.56 ghs (2 day ave) @ 38 C and 3.2 v with a 140 mm fan blowing at its intake.

without the fan it was around 44 C and 3.35 v. cant remember the exact hash rate though.

seems the warmer it gets the more volts it gets.

OK tried it. open case, fan blows down. EDIT: same 140 mm fan blowing at it. ambient 20 C

one other thing I did was remove the heatsink and dab some MX2 around where the now broken up thrmal tape was. originally I was going to use straight MX2 without thermal tape but the chips are bare and I was worried about cracking them. so I left the pieces on and filled it in with MX2. I also applied MX2 to the PCB opposite the 2 hashing chips so the load plate would maybe pull some heat off the back of the PCB.

end result: 33 C temps, 3.1 v. same hash rate though.
4722  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Got my JALAPENO today mining at 5.9 Gh/s with some tweaks on: June 01, 2013, 11:21:48 AM
I noticed there are 5 HW errors in that photo. Might want to look into that.

looked at percentage wise its not significant.

my jally in 2 days has had 4 hw errors.

0.000060% if Im doing the math anywhere near right.

really wish bfl would pay attention to cooling over looks. its so noisy no one would put it on their desk anyway, my single and jally are in the basement.

thank u for the data, what about HW errors? any?

seems to toss a couple a day.

0.00008%

what are the sizes of the box? whats the top Hash rate you have? i see in another post that 5.5 is the top, and the Watts are 33-35w stable? or there any peak? im waiting for mine next monday i wanna be ready for install them Tongue

4"x4" by just under 3.5" high.

34 watts max (fluctuates between 33 and 34). never below 5.5 Gh/s, never above 5.6 Gh/s.

very stable now, actually. had some issues with it on a USB 3 port (I think that was it) before. been 3 days now 24/7 though with no issues.

updating to 3.1.1 got me a 5 mhash/s on my 7970 Cheesy!
is there a 3.1.1. for windows too? I can't find to download it.

http://ck.kolivas.org/apps/cgminer

if the sites down (it was for me a minute ago) just keep checking.
4727  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: BFL - butterfly labs - a SAD state of affairs on: May 26, 2013, 12:38:48 PM
As long as no one confirms that we've received their order BFL can say what they want....

I received my pre-ordered (day 2, I think) Jalapeno today.

You are a central figure, and may have jumped the queue. A confirmation from some random pretty anonymous but long-term user would count a lot more in this case.

I have mine, ordered 6/24, received 5/23 . Im a nobody and  Ive been here since july 2011.

4728  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: jalapeno wipeout on: May 26, 2013, 12:12:10 PM
just curious, you seem to read 2 temps, and theres a 7 degree C difference between them. those are the two hashing chips? if so Ill have to tear it down and do the TIM  right.
Yeah I hear (but have not seen) that temp can be a problem but it's heading to winter shortly here in Aus, so I've not really done any bad temp testing on it.

The amt0 - which now says amt=0 in the next version correctly Smiley - means it literally got no reply at all, not some unexpected reply.
It looks like after that it got out of sync for 13 seconds then seemed to solve the temp out of sync but get no work replies.
Lastly it's getting Temp and Work replies mixed together so certainly something went amiss.

The MTX: problem is the last thing I need to fix before I'll consider the USB code ready for another version release, then it'll be up to ckolivas to decide what and when Smiley

Edit: yeah on linux it runs like a dream Smiley

yeah yeah linux, I know..  us poor windows slobs Cheesy

Ive played with linux (netbook is dual boot) but I have a few old XP boxes, that P4 being one of them. its funny, built it in 2005 (?) and its still going strong. cant remember the last time I rebooted it, and the only time cgminer is shut down is to install new versions. I use your API to keep tabs on it.

anyway, no worries. its going fine now. when the jally was upstairs the case was rather warm to the touch, its room temp now. typical crappy BFL cooling: looks over performance. I will probably order slim 92mm high flo ball bearing fan for it.

4729  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: jalapeno wipeout on: May 26, 2013, 10:42:39 AM

had this error on my jally a couple times now, and it never recovers on its own. just exiting cgminer and restarting fixes it though. once on one computer (win7 64), then I moved it to another computer (vista 32) and it happened there too.

any ideas?

on the chance is something overheating in the unit Ive put it in the basement with a 140 mm fan on it. the temps were 44-46 C upstairs in the living room (72 F ambient), and 34 C in the basement (65 F ambient with the 140 mm fan). if that fixes it Ill let ya know.
I've increased the timeout value (-7 = timeout) for windows for all devices that weren't already 999ms since it seems windows and USB sux badly
(Linux is 100ms or 200ms and works fine even on an rpi)

Other possible causes could also be:
USB HDD/large bandwidth device blocking/delaying the USB bus with large transfers
Computer bogged down, not much CPU available
Computer slowed down due to not enough RAM, swapping
Plugged into a USB1.1 port (not sure how bad USB1.1 is on windows)
Plugged into a USB3.0 port (problems as yet not resolved)

Anyway, it will be 999ms in the next release for all windows devices
Yes that means wait for a whole second for replies from the device Tongue (if there is a problem)
... 999ms is more than a full nonce range on a Jalapeno ...

Edit: and before anyone assumes something incorrect, this problem is the same for both USB and the old serial-USB, makes no difference

could be a couple of those. the win7 desktop might of been a USB 3 port (didnt notice, it was plugged into the back I/O which has both) and the vista HTPC box was under a decent load (recording and streaming, but nothing on USB though),

since being banished to the basement, to an ancient Pentium 4 box with a BFL FPGA single, 5830 and now the jally, its been fine. maybe being cooler helps too, dunno. it will stay down there now, its a bit too noisy for my tastes.

just curious, you seem to read 2 temps, and theres a 7 degree C difference between them. those are the two hashing chips? if so Ill have to tear it down and do the TIM  right.

Vapourminer did this thing ship with an actual UI software to use or is it just what you are showing here?

nope. no software, no instructions, no packing slip.

just the jally, a usb cable, and the power brick.

oh yeah and it also came a bfl coffee mug in the box.

Vapourminer, your pc days you're getting 5+ Gh/s, what's your mining pool say you're getting?  And how many BTC's per day are you getting?  Thanks!

I didnt check when it was running solo, it normally runs on my desktop along with a 6870 that gives around 300Mh/s. pool says 5.7 GH/s for that worker, so it tracks.

dunno how many btc just the jally gets, I run a bfl fpga (870 MH/s ave), 5830 (330 MH/s), the jally and a 6870 (300MH/s). pool says 0.242 btc in the last 24 hrs, but Ive turned it on and off a few times playing around with it

"supposedly' they shipped all jalapeno orders for june 23 to 25th on 3 days ago.  What isn't clear is if this was another 'burp' like a month ago when they shipped out samples to testers and important people or actually for real customers.

I received my jally 5/23 (ordered 6/24/12) and Im a nobody.

so at least they are shipping to regular folks now.

THANK YOU for butting in!  Tongue  Hey, do you happen to have the ability to take a couple of pictures of it mining with the kilowatt?  5400/34 = 158, so yours is beyond the 150MH/J requirement, and would fit perfectly in line for 1/3 of my bet!

sure, if you dont mind waiting a couple days (memorial day long weekend here, got a lot going on). if its for a bet, I will want to get the kilowatt, power brick, cables, jally and cgminer (on my netbook say) all in one photo so theres no question of it being the jallys power draw. right now the kilowatt and brick are under the desk with the jally on a shelf to the side. no way to get it into one photo.
Yeah not a problem! Thank you!

I must doing something wrong here.

I want to run only a jalapeno on my netbook, its an atom with integrated graphics. I have the zadig driver installed and the jally is detected. I fire up cgminer with -G or --disable-gpu and it still fails with a windows dialog box popup that says "no opencl.dll found." well I am not using opencl, I want the jally only to mine. what am I missing? using 3.1.1, and the command line is cgminer -G or cgminer --disable-gpu. does opencl.dll actually need to exist even if its not needed?

also, a minor display bug, when I plug the jally into my desktop with an already running cgminer, it detects the jally and it starts hashing with it but the status line for the jally is not added, it just lists the 6870 that was already hashing. shares are reported though in the scrolling part.

Crazyates, how much power is that pulling? IIRC, I think SgtSpike had a bet with one of the forum trolls and he needs a total of three customers to report the power use in order to win a huge bet. Not sure where I read it, or where the thread is though.

hope Im not butting in (Im not Crazyates) but I have a killowatt and a jally too.

15 watts idle, 33-34 watts @5.4 GH/s. cgminer reports 3.29-3.30 volts, thats the chip voltage I guess?

I am thinking of throwing my CPU power that is unused to folding. Does Folding nowadays allow GPU usage`?

yes, cpu and GPU are usable. nividia is to folding as AMD is to mining though.
