Unfortunately the future of eCommerce is going to be controlled by Amazon. Crypto will give us a chance to do a bit of trading outside their centralised empire, but how many people are prepared to shun Amazon to preserve this trading?
4742  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: how do i get MERITS in Bitcointalk forum? on: July 17, 2018, 10:57:17 AM
>..<

A necro-bump with a useless reply. A full quote to bulk up the reply. Both of those are enough for me to put you on ignore.

243 posts and not one merit. Carry on like this, and you will make it to 1000 posts with no merit.
4743  Other / Meta / Re: Announcing the 🦊 Vulpine Order of Merit 🦊 on: July 17, 2018, 10:29:51 AM
Wow - thanks for that, and it is a great surprise. I was about to suggest that it should be awarded to achow, as he provides much more technical help thn I do, and I think this is one of the primary functions of Bitcoin Talk.

Here is my entry for the dance contest.

I claim the 55gallon drum of WD40, and I would be grateful if you could hold this in trust for me until I am able to embark on my world tour in my converted camper van. I haven't started the conversion yet, so departure may be a few years away.

4744  Other / Meta / Re: I've just invented dMerits. on: July 17, 2018, 10:22:28 AM
I think people should take responsibility for the merits they award, and I can't take responsibility for Spanish language posts. I am prepared to take responsibility for passing judgement to a member such as seoinc. and leave him to take the responsibility for the individual posts, and I would welcome such transactions being available for public scrutiny. I believe that these transactions should not result in any merit award for the intermediate member, and this helps to avoid some abuse of such a system.

I don't want to spend time reading a number of post that I may have already considered, and decided not to merit for personal reasons. The suggested poster may be on my ignore list for example.

I've brought this topic back again, as it would be a great help if there was a way that merit sources could provide support to responsible members who are active on some of the neglected boards.
4745  Other / Meta / Re: How do I skip the junk posts? (also proposal) on: July 17, 2018, 10:17:24 AM
The ignore button is great. You can ignore complete bords like the ANN and ICOs, and you can ignore posters with bad posting habits. OK, maybe they will create the odd useful post, but why spend time picking through the garbage in the hope tht you will find one. Ignoring the OP in a thread greys out the title, so it's easy to skip that thread when you are looking for posts to reward. It's sad for the good posters who may be active in tht thread, but in life you need to choose your friends carefully, society judges you by your friends and associates.
4746  Other / Meta / Re: [TOP-200] The most generous users giving merits on: July 17, 2018, 09:11:56 AM
It looks as if I awarded 20 fewer merits in the last total, and right now I've got 160 sMerits that I could award. I put this down to the difficulty that I'm having in finding posts that I like, and it's made harder by the fact that my ignore list is growing. Maybe I'm unreasonable, but it's a question of my time management. The things that cause me to ignore members are. I appreciate that this is a very generalised approach, but, due to the high volume of spammers, it seems to be the only way to handle it.

- All caps titles
- glyphs in titles
- Oversized text in long posts
- Unnecessary images in posts other than social threads
- Begging for merit
- Twitbook and ICO promotion on general boards
- Heavily formatted posts on the general boards, especially ANN posts
- Necro-bumpers
- Rubbish posters with bad English

There are probably some more as well. In fact I have so many on ignore, that I even set up an appeals site for reformed posters to ask for re=evaluation - https://talkmerit.com/support/

4747  Economy / Reputation / Re: Illegal reduction of trust on: July 16, 2018, 07:45:33 PM
By advertising a product in your signature, you are endorsing that product. As you have discovered, this endorsement can affect your reputation. You should always check to make sure that anything you promote in your signature is honest and reputable. The readers of your posts will trust your judgement, you should try not to let them down.
4748  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Is there an operating system that syncs Bitcoin core the fastest? on: July 16, 2018, 07:23:14 PM
There is a network histogram in debug, and this seem to show that sync'ing works in bursts on my Windows machine. I'll post an image if I get a chance tomorrow. I can't use port 8333 where I am at the moment. I can make one for the Ubuntu as well if you want a comparison.
4749  Other / Meta / Re: Are these posts deserve so much merits ??? on: July 16, 2018, 07:13:48 PM
Well that is why I think that no post in the ANN section should be able to receive any merits. It turns the whole merit system into a joke imho.
4750  Other / Meta / Re: Are these posts deserve so much merits ??? on: July 16, 2018, 06:32:54 PM
Well I could give 50 merits to a post, but I can't conceive of one that is worth that much. I've only found half a dozen that I've awarded with 5. I think I gave 10 to seoinc, but that was for him to make some awards in the Spanish community.

What post would be worth 50 merits?
4751  Other / Meta / Re: [TOP-200] The most generous users giving merits on: July 16, 2018, 12:45:41 PM
I don't seem to get many merit beggars mailing me
I put them straight onto ignore, so they will never get any merit from me in the future
4752  Other / Meta / Re: Possible reason of account banning on: July 16, 2018, 09:12:19 AM
You don't have to be a brain surgeon to realise that meriting your alts is against forum policy, and will cause you to be red tagged at the very least. If that were not so, then I could make a nice business out of creating legendary accounts to spam the forum.
4753  Other / Meta / Re: [TOP-200] The most generous users giving merits on: July 16, 2018, 08:35:44 AM
Now with the amount of data available should be even possible to estimate approximately how many smerits are assigned to each merit source at the begin of the month.  For the joy of the ignore list of somebody Smiley

Source Merits aren't awarded in one lump at the beginning of the month, they are replaced 30 days after they are awarded.
4754  Other / Meta / Re: BITCOINTALK (BTALK) Tokens? || Wait what?? on: July 15, 2018, 11:21:00 AM
Linking merit to any form of financial gain would be a disaster.

If the forum wants to reward forum activities such as moderation, then they should, and probably do, reward these activities directly with Bitcoin payments.
4755  Other / Ivory Tower / Re: UK Writer Beaten to a BLOODY PULP With Hours of Releasing Pro-Trump Piece on: July 15, 2018, 11:17:19 AM
Don't you think Bitcoin is a bit globalist? It is a one-world supra-national money system after all

Bitcoin is global, but not globalist. It doesn't demand the destruction of national sovereignty, and all of the other things that the globalists are creating.

Most people need leaders, and personalities that can become rallying points. Donald Trump is a rallying point. Clinton, Obama, Blair Cameron and the like were not rallying points, they were strippers of national assets, and the promoters of global eugenics.
4756  Other / Meta / Re: Using automated translation tools to post translated content in Local boards on: July 15, 2018, 11:03:44 AM

Then that would beat the whole purpose of having a bounty and promotion in the first place.
Mainstream social media shuns these advertisements, if we too do that how would the companies ever end up promoting the projects?

Well there is a reason for their adverts to be shunned, and as the chances to promote their scams in the world reduce, perhaps they will stop being created. Crypto has enough problems in gaining public acceptance, without all the scammers and spammers reducing credibilty. Bitcoin Talk needs to be seen as an honest representative of all that is good in crypto, and not as an underworld swamp.
4757  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Membergroups on: July 15, 2018, 10:35:31 AM
>..<

Please don't necro-bump old threads when the information is in the stickies. I've put you on ignore for doing it, and no doubt others will do the same. Even more when you complain that you aren't getting any merits because all the awarders are ignoring you.
4758  Other / Meta / Re: [TOP-200] The most generous users giving merits on: July 15, 2018, 10:16:41 AM
So is it a good thing that I have slipped to 170 in the generosity ranking?
4759  Other / Meta / Re: Most of our moderators are inactive on: July 15, 2018, 09:39:11 AM
I saw the thread about banning all Venezuelans, and it must be difficult for Theymos to avoid appointing mods with such extremist views. As you know, the only member of FtT who is not a member of Bitcoin Talk is a Venezuelan girl. She is there by my invitation as I respect her for managing to gain an IT degree in a country that is beset with political turmoil. I hope that Bitcoin Talk can draw together the honest, industrious and innovative populations from all countries. Social interaction to build mutual respect is the only way to achieve a measure of world harmony. To achieve this, it is important to restrict the activities of the dishonest and the spammers who destroy the reputations of whole countries, and this is why the forum needs active moderation.

Just to clarify - the extreme view was that of a member, and not the mod who deleted the thread.

[edited addition]

If the mods won't clean up the beginners and the discussion boards. then I'm going to have to do it myself for my own convenience. I'm considering ignoring any member who includes the word twitter in a thread title. If other merit awarders start to do this, and to publicise the fact, then maybe we can reduce their spamming pollution on those boards.
4760  Other / Meta / Re: Using automated translation tools to post translated content in Local boards on: July 15, 2018, 09:25:10 AM
Never mind the translations, I think bounty and ICO promotions should be kept in the underworld here, and not be allowed on the local of general boards.
