4781  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Avalon 6 Vs Antminer S7, which one you will choose? on: October 29, 2015, 06:07:04 PM
About under voltage, the marking of "11.8-12.2V" means this miner will have a 3.65T (+- 10%) of the performance, we test it under this voltage. You can run it under a 11V PSU, and will get a better efficiency performance but slower speed. The hardware and software is fully support this case. but I think the lowest voltage is ~10V.

ng

That is excellent that it can be underclocked & undervolted. Do you have a table of Clock Frequency, Supply Voltage, TH/s & J/GH ?

Rich

So here is the real problem.

I only have a very limited test machines in hand, will try to answer this in the near future.

But every machines are different. will have more and more performance difference when the voltage going down...

ng

With so few test machines should we really expect NOV 10th to be when the first batch is out?

Mr. Lee in his thread claimed he was getting 3PH shipped out pretty soon.  So makes me wonder on that as-well if limited on test machines:

As a matter of fact, i have ordered 3P hashrate from avalon, they told me they will ship them to me on 31th Oct. but i think it is hard for them to keep the word, as their chip still on the way to factory until yesterday.
however, it is not easy to sell avalon miner to your guys because they use one raspberrypi to control 60 unit miner=60*3.5=210T. so i prefer to sell those avalon as cloud mining hashrate.
4782  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Is mining dead ? on: October 29, 2015, 06:04:01 PM
If there is no mining then there will not exist bitcoin, right?
I think that mining will not get dead as soon as new hardware are in the market.
When July comes then we will see how many devices will die because of no profit.

As long as BTC live, mining will never be dead "dead". When people say "damnit mining is dead" they are talking about themselves, in their conditions. Mining is not dead for people with better conditions than that person and that will remain true as long as Bitcoin lives.

Its a definite fact because if something very bad happen and BTC lose 70% of its value, mining will "die" for many, but it will normalize on 30% of its remaining value after the difficulty drop.

That's the point if there is no mining i think that bitcoin will disappear.
Mining itself will continue and i think that the new technology hardware will make it easier.
At least more profitable than the old mining rigs which for now and from July will not worth using them.
New technology doesn't help mining, it just make previous generations obsolete. Mining will ever end, and can never kill Bitcoin, it is the other way around. As long as BTC hold value, there will be mining. Because as long as BTC has value, mining has value.

As long as there is value, people will do it.

Its just a matter of perspective. For instance last months before the BTC raise, people were complaining/sadly saying they already were nearly breaking even by mining with a S5.

Meanwhile for many, it is still profitable to mine with S3 or even S1 or perhaps even worse ASICs.

For those who pay electricity it does help on new miners as they normally have better efficiency.  And there becomes a time a miner when paying electricity is not bringing in enough, or some not at all.   This is when you sell and upgrade generations.

Without new efficiency and difficulty going up eventually no one but cheap or free could mine.   So there is a purpose new gear serves for most miners as electricity costs money.

There is, but the reason difficulty go up in the first place, is because more hardware is being produced in the first place.

If no hardware was ever more efficient than 0.5J/GH, then we would eventually hit a cap, where it would only be more profitable to invest in even more of these miners if the price of BTC raise.

Basically, now we're also fighting over who gets the most efficient hardware, if that was removed from the equation, it would probably be better off for miners.

If they did not have new chips they would just make the same miners with same efficiency.  Having old technology would not stop companies from making miners, as a lot pay very little on big data centers.  So difficulty would still go up.

Difficulty is not going to sit still, this just wot happen no matter what situation is.  It can move slower upwards.... but not remain the same (assuming BTC does not crash or something hugely go wrong)

As someone who pay's electricity I can tell you new miners are a good thing overall.  Only way I can see people not thinking so is "free" miners or extremely cheap electricity miners.
4783  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S7 is available at bitmaintech.com with 4.86TH/s, 0.25J/GH on: October 29, 2015, 05:58:45 PM
I know some of you may say shut up....

but lets share some S7 experience here!!!  (yes good or bad or may be some secret tweaks you made with S7?!?)  Yes, frequency changes, vertically deployed, any customs tools you made for S7, some bug finds, etc (frequency outside of the stock condition will void the warranty)

*Any physical modification may voids the warranty.  (If you are going to break the warranty seal, please ask permission from info@bitmaintech.com before doing so to avoid the loss of warranty coverage.

*this is not an endorsement to authorize overclocking or underclocking or modified use of S7 to retain warranty.  Any conditions that are listed in the letter included in your package remain in full force...

the policy used by our customers is really painful,
the warranty period of 90 days is too painful.
if hardware is fully functional it does not need all those frequencies and then not use them because they will void your warranty.
the miners who produce are scaresa quality for this date only 90 days warranty.
Sieto only attached to money.
another thing, if a user pays you in BTC have the right to do it to save as much as possible, both in the shipment, especially the customs fees.
what game you're playing?
it seems that people are stupid?

To be fair you can't blame Bitmain (or any other miner company) for customs/import/vat fee.  That is something to blame the government doing it.  Luckily I'm in US we don't have it.  Some do have it really bad though on vat.

But just since you pay with BTC does not mean they should try to cheat on customs fee's.   A lot of people seem to think it's bitmains fault for not declaring lower value... they are just following the laws of the country.

So the late shipment sure all them, but customs fees..... not their fault.  Using BTC does not mean they should dummy up paperwork.

I appreciate that undervolting / underclocking will have variable results across machines. However it would be very useful to have an indication as to what is possible?

Thank You

Rich

The difference maybe up to 50%....

Also, I think the "tweak" of Avalon6 will be extremely easy. set a top frequency, set a target temperature, finish. The machine will find a best frequency and fan speed by your setting.

The 4.1 was really amazing on it's range of normal to underclock.  I really would love to see one underclocked.

If the Avalon 6 does the same it would be interesting to see by how much it beat's a S7.  I would love to see some numbers there on watts used in underclock.

Holy crap check out coinbase were over 310 per btc. What a jump since 230... wow its looking like one good day.

Who would have guessed this?
4787  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Avalon 6 Vs Antminer S7, which one you will choose? on: October 29, 2015, 04:16:35 PM
I don't think any of these companies price their products properly. Why? Cause people used to buy them for 10k+ no questions asked. Now? Everyone is buying out or trying to milk it.

Avalon6 is overpriced. Won't doubt it if the S7 lite price makes people think twice, too.

People accept the 4month ROI. It's easy to price everything accordingly.

Their target market are people with established and profitable rigs looking to upgrade in bulk not people trying to buy one for fun or hobbyist who view this as a lottery attempt. You're better off taking your cash to the actual lottery unless you're shelling out at least 5k.

Although i agree with your statement on the prices.  Those that bought the miners with btc suffer with the rise in prise.. those that bought with usd are laughing all the way to the bank.(that is the nature and risk of mining) Hell i bought 30 s1 when btc was 650 only to watch it drop all way down to 300 making the s1 not profitable.. had i not mined solo and found 7 blocks they would prolly never roi considering i bought them with cash.  With regards to the lottery, if you live in my state your gonna be surprised when its time to go cash in that ticket. Roll Eyes  http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/ct-lottery-lawsuit-met-20150909-story.html  this was the cap at 25k article  and since our lovely govt cant ever get there shit together they have now a month later moved that down to 600$ (yet they continue to sell tickets like nothing is wrong!)  http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/local/politics/ct-lottery-delayed-payouts-met-20151014-story.html   what i find alarming is they are now expecting the small business to fork over the winnings for the smaller tickets and then those businesses will then have to fight illinois for the back payments.. Could put some small stores in a bind. Not like they give a shit.. but anyway thought id share this:)

Best Regards
d57heinz

Lol yuuuup. Its crazy.

And then people try to sell used equipment for more than original retail. Probably because they bought in bitcoin and can't keep up. Smh...

If the S7 lite is priced at 1k? Sign me up for 5-10 of those babies. That will kill the Avalon and I'm damn certain antminer will still make bank off us. Make it a black Friday sale if they wanna charge 1500 for it cause it's just a little better and people will buy it.

If not? Maybe a Avalon group buy. Negotiate that 900-1k price in a bulk order.

Yeah i do not really understand the pricing scheme. But if you look at Ebay, apparently people are still buying crap, like S1 or USB or old 3J/GH stuff at 0.30$/GH. I'm not sure if its because there's so many desperate/unknowledgeable gamblers that buy all they can find or what...

But other than that, i don't see why people would be buying the Avalon6 at 1300$, the S7 has better efficiency and cheaper $/GH.

And indeed if the S7 lite is indeed a 2 bladed S7, then unless Bitmain crank up the price like crazy, it will leave the Avalon6 in the dust.

I have a love/hate relationship with ebay.  I hate the fees ebay, paypal...etc.  It really does add up.  I have found normally even after all that I get more on used gear there then here on forum.  On forum here a lot want a bargin, so it makes it tough.   Ebay you can sell a good amount higher in some cases.

I have only had one weird one.   I had 2 C1's one worked fully other had some hashing boards that dropped.   I sold working one on ebay... thought I did decent felt good..... but I sold a parts C1 on forum and I made more money parting out C1 then I did for a working one.   Part of it was I had upgraded pump, wire harness, etc.  But the full unit came with it.  It's the only time I have felt like better deal was on forum.
4788  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: rumors of 3.5Th antminer S7 "lite" on: October 29, 2015, 04:10:21 PM
Ooooh this would be awesome!!!!

$1000 might still be out of the price range :S, Sad, but who knows maybe not when I get bonous.
I hope it is at 1000$ and not more, I would be pretty psyched about that.

If the S6 number of $1300 for 3.65 TH is correct, $1000 likely won't be in the cards. Unless of course Bitmain has "too many S7" sitting around (highly unlikely IMHO).
Hmm, well avalon 6 is more or less releasing on the 10th of November with that exact price, maybe Bitmain will try to undercut them.

the quoted price is from the reseller, which tends to be higher, besides, avalon always tried to maintain a premium-see 4.1 prices.
we shall see.
So we should expect the S7 lite lower in price than the avalon which is 3.65th/s for 1300$.

I would hope so, and I also have hopes for a nice coupon for those who ordered b2/b3 late (say, after 10/15) IF they would decrease per Th price substantially for S7 lite.
I have never bought a miner directly from Bitmain but if there are coupons and the price is decent this looks like it will probably be my first.

Very little chance of coupon.  I don't see them changing on it.  The B1 compensation was pretty crappy, they did not sound like coupons would come.

So best chance is price is good on coins and they don't jack up price.  And then you can order.  But coupon don't count on.
S3 -S5 shipping was around 50$ to US via DHL wasn't it? I am not sure how expensive the S5+ or S7 have been, hopefully it will be still 50$ max on shipping to US.

I paid: 0.662  BTC for S5+ and 3 PSU's.  But the psu's were sent at a lower weight then actual was..... so I had to pay UPS more as bitmain shipped at lower declared weight.  It was not horrible though like 15 more dollars or something.

Worst miner I have had was Dragon 1.5T..... that thing is truly a tank.  It was around 50 pounds or so, so quite rediclous.  I can't remember what I paid on it I shopped all around to save buyer money and found a decent price us to us in 5-7 days I think it was on some carrier.   Like 3 day's on it was like 150-200 or something so was insane.

Not sure on DHL they are worst one for me as I live at edge of the drivers route... causes many problems.
4789  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Antminer S7 on Hashnest on: October 29, 2015, 04:03:28 PM
There was an announcement today at Bitmaintalk that another 500 S7 will be put up for sale in Hashnest on November 3.

The last buyers of S7's on hashnest got pretty nice profits on those who resold.  I wonder what the price will be.

Also if they do happen to do a smaller S7 that is rumored what that will do to current S7 prices will be interesting.
4790  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: good places to hide paper wallet ? on: October 29, 2015, 03:04:15 PM
You could also use a bitkee.

You wont have any trouble with water or fire. All you need more is a safe place to hide it. It isn't that big so you could hide it anywhere you want.

I would not say no problem with fire.  It seems that if a long fire hits it that metal might have some issues.  It looks like a slim card like metal slab.

So I would predict at a certain point it would burn/char.  But yes it's better then a piece of paper for sure.

anyone have tips to get more BTC?im still new here...
please kindly share here...

Best tip is look at first page on the beginner forum.  There are multiple topics on this already.   But you don't even have to search just look a few down from your thread.

There are lots of options.  A big thing will be if you are investing with cash or another one trying to get it all "free".  And you honestly missed a good surge it was at 230 for a long time all you had to do was hold and you made around 70 now if you sold them.

Got it. So you're looking to hear back from people that have voided their warranties already...

I'm so glad I quit you, Bitmain.

That is why I asked more questions.  It seemed like a lot the ideas that void warranty. I find it very weird to throw out idea's that some would take voiding warranty.  Tell people tell us how it goes with voiding warranty.... but this is not permission.   Makes 0 sense.

Just like vertical which seems simple.  This was done in most cases with fan screws holding the legs... but we are not suppose to unscrew fan.  Change frequency... but if you over or underclock it voids warranty.  I do not follow the post I hope they remove it personally.

2) Not really Minera is like a miner OS for dummies (no offense to anyone using it).  It has great nice gui's, and there is a image that supports the copmpac.

So it really deepens on no 2  on what OS you want to run on a RPI.

Ok, so i think i won't need Minera. I'm going to compile the cgminer source from Novak this afternoon (even if i don't have the compac in hand yet).

Cheers,

Jeff.

It's not a bad idea you can test it out and make sure you can get it compiled.   It should not be to hard if you are use to Linux.

But yea Minera is mainly for those who like the GUI.  I like having the OS there and just using terminal to run the cgminer instances.
4794  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S4 Discussion and Support Thread on: October 29, 2015, 02:43:07 PM
It's okay I just wanted to keep the original that's working now before screwing around with different firmwares and minera I didn't screw myself over thankfully! (came close...will now be paying a lot more attention to which SD card is in the reader!).

I just copied it using win32 and have burnt it to another SD card so I think I'm sweet thanks though!

Glad it worked out ok.  You should be sit espically with testing it.   It really is not that long of process and saves a lot of time if there is a problem.

Best of luck mining!

Can you go deeper on what is allowed on frequency change without loosing warranty?  Just want a full explanation here.

A lot of vertical designs on S5 used the fan screws to secure the legs used to hold the miner vertically, are you giving permission to unscrew fan to attach  legs to do vertical mining?
4796  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: BITMAIN AntRouter R1: 1st wireless networking device with bitcoin mining chip on: October 29, 2015, 02:30:28 PM
If this firmware can be cracked I'd buy one.  Until then I'm on the sidelines waiting to play.
Just don't like the idea of being forced to mine on antpool.

It is cracked already, and you can now set up to solo or pool mine with the same interface as all the other Bitmain S series Miners. If you buy your Miner from CrazyGuy you can even choose to have it shipped with the enhanced firmware.  Smiley

Rich

I suggest getting one from CrazyGuy - https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=612390.0 .  Bitmain is out of stock and he he selling from stock.

And he is quite talented at programming.   He has the most advanced custom firmware I feel pretty safe saying currently.
4797  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Is Mining profitable? on: October 29, 2015, 02:25:50 PM
Simple answer:
If you got very cheap/free electricity, mining is profitable.
If not, then no! ^^

that's is only true if you do not instamine and mine bitcoin, or other high diff coin

with new coin cheap electricity does not matter, it matter more how fast you're to grab a good amount of coin at launch

also there is to be considered the initial investment, which is very big if you want efficiency

So amph does the old-style "mine, dump, next" thing Grin

The problem is most altcoins are pump and dump so some make profit mining quickly then selling. Specifically sha256 there is not a lot good longterm altcoin.

And there is not a lot of new coin launches.  So I don't think this ill happen to often at all.  You can watch nicehash to see that it's not really worth it it's been running under BTC prices for a while.  It's currently around 5 under BTC mining amount.
4798  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Avalon 6 Vs Antminer S7, which one you will choose? on: October 29, 2015, 02:19:57 PM
About the electricity i think the cheapest price should be in China.
They mostly generate the electricity from hydroelectric power (from water).
And most of mining hardware are produced there, so it would be cheaper to operate there and buying lots of Antminer S7.

Unfortunately I think I lose hope about electricity, hydroelectric power in china well they are amazing that is one point about them, I think in one of our provinces we have electric wind turbine and can generate cheap electricity well I think that the best place to mine here.

China is not only place but it's very popular right now. Part of it is the machines for most part are made there.  So buy a truckload of miners.  I think one of the largest ones is actually not in China but Mongolia if I remember right.

There are a few in  US.  But it's not that common for the super cheap electricity.  Most of US have more normal 10ish or so depends some have under some have higher. I mean block C the new US distributor of avalon picked San Fransisco.

I think where this could really matter is having.  But we really are not sure what having will look like.

Yes Im waiting for Marco to reply too. My payment was 15 hours due now. I know everything will be fixed soon as in the past. Let's just wait.

No need to worry.  Macro always comes through and fixes any problem, so I have no doubt he will fix this.

Appears hot wallet ran out.  So I'm sure Macro will fill it again and it will start working again.
4800  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: good places to hide paper wallet ? on: October 29, 2015, 11:43:31 AM
a good hiding place maybe first put inside a leak proof lunch box like lock & lock, then place inside a fire proof safe like sentry, so no matter what happen (flood, fire, theft) , coins is safe

Or you could always laminate the paper to make it stronger against elements.   And also you can store digital copies of them on a USB drive in the fire safe.

I suggest having multiple ways to get it.  You don't want one single point of failure.  If you just have one single paper wallet in safe something happens.... your out of luck.  So multiple things will save this.
