481  Economy / Services / Re: [BIT-X.com] Earn Bitcoins by Posting | Signature Campaign on: June 16, 2016, 03:45:42 AM
I'm surprised no one said thanks yet.  But thanks for working out all the kinks on payment's and your work behind it now.  It's been extremely smooth on reset's at right time.  And we got paid very quick this week.  So again all great things.

So thanks for your work Marco!
482  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER U3 Discussion and Support Thread on: June 16, 2016, 03:36:57 AM
I want a U4 to come out with a few S9 chips on it or something along that line, anyone else think that would be cool?

These were S3 chips with the "BM1382 chips".   I am not sure we will see a new U series as the big miners are kinda stealing the show.  And I don't know how sales were on U3's it seemed the full sized S3 at the time sold a TON more then U3's.  But again speculation there I have no numbers just guesses.

If they do decide to make it though they have a great platform for a controller already with the R1.  All those running into issues should really give it a try as it is low power and gives you the GUI your familiar with.   And if you use crazyguy's modded firmware on them the auto restart is awsome.   But I highly recommend R1 for those running U3's.
483  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Pair on s-9s now running photos are up. on: June 16, 2016, 03:31:41 AM
Wow nice S9's hopefully the price of them doesn't drop by half in a month or so lol but looks like you made the right gamble with the price of bitcoin skyrocketing.

Keep in mind on price right now your getting pre-having mining which is a big thing.   It is before block reward so the miners will make more now vs after having.   So a higher price now would make sense.

We have no idea what price will be after having but I would imagine cheaper due to not mining these day's before having, which again is huge to have in my eyes.   I would guess price would reflect after... but how much I have no idea.  But it is a tradeoff as you did not get the pre-having mining if you wait for a lower price.
484  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: is my Computer is profitable in mini??ng on: June 15, 2016, 11:50:56 PM
nope. I have the same parameters and im mining in minergate.com differrent cryptocurrencies and im earning 20000 satoshis a day ( converted). It isnt worth it to harm my pc for that

And in a lot of cases it is not the "harm to pc".  It is laptops that really are ones that people can harm pushing hard, desktops you could... but chaces are far less they just have a ton better cooling in most cases.

The thing where it does not make sense is electricity in most cases on regular PC.  As if it has good GPU mining Ether is possible to turn a profit.  But regular cpu and cheap GPU are going to cost more running then they make.  So a lose due to electricity.
485  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Which wallet is the best? on: June 15, 2016, 11:48:18 PM
blockchain.info is the oldest bitcoin wallet and it was the best one till 7-8 months ago when they had a problem with transactions and alot of people didnt got their btc, instead they tooked the half of the btv they have sended. Because of that a lot of people were disapointed and left the blockchain

Best is so subjective though as a wallet is kinda tailored to your needs.  A hotwallet with lot's of access cannot really be compared to say a paper wallet.  So we cannot say one is best for all applications.

I still think blockchain.info has the most users by all I have seen.  It is in no way meant to store lot's of BTC long term.  It is a hotwallet and should be treated as such but I think it is still most popular website hot wallet.
486  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Hello friends.. new guy here! on: June 15, 2016, 11:44:44 PM
I'm new here too and not a guru of bitcoin. But I've had a keen interest in economics and finance most of my life. To understand what good investments are, it helps to study the most successful investors. None of them made their fortunes from cryptocurrencies.

A lot of people, including me, believe an investment is something that produces cash flow. For example, stocks, bonds, commercial real estate. Warren Buffett has said many times that gold is not an investment because it produces nothing. The same can be said of bitcoin.

Incidentally, some people bought bitcoin when it was worth $800, or $900, or $1,000. Last year it was down to $200. That shows that bitcoin doesn't always go up.

There are different types of investments though.  When you talk about bonds lets say picking one there is MANY levels of ratings, to base  how risky it is.   So if you go out buy some AAA bonds... yes you will get money back but it's small return due to security of it as AAA does not normally default.

The huge difference is bitcoin would be ranked in the high risk/high reward investments.  This is in part as it is still pretty new we have no idea what it will look like in 10 years.   So you can possibly gain huge returns (or yes loss's aswell).  If your looking to study sucessfull investors it's going to be very hard to find the stats with BTC being so new compared to traditional investments.   The studies your looking at chances are most don't even include crypto investments.

I don't agree with "None of them made their fortunes from cryptocurrencies.".  This means your looking at wrong study or one that does not include it (which is most chances are).  As there are some that have made fortunes without a doubt.
487  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Questions about outdoor bitcoin mining on: June 15, 2016, 11:35:24 PM
There is no reason to get into a forum battle... as who wins? No one.  Honestly forum battling just is not worth it.  I will say what I did not agree with and leave it with that.  OP mentioned "I want to build an outside bitcoin mining box that will have a roof and vents for Antminer s7".  So I take this as a box not a super designed "heated shed" type device.  You anwsered him with:

I want to build an outside bitcoin mining box that will have a roof and vents for Antminer s7, but will condensation be a problem? what about in the winter will it be too cold for it? I live in Canada. In the summer would it be too hot? Rain won't be the issue I will come up with a pretty good box design. What if it shuts down for what ever reason will it be okay?

As long as the rigs are mining, i think its okay. But if snow get in there, not so much. If you shut it down, i dont think you should boot it at -40C, no. Typically the best is to dump the heat out. If it was a proper heated shed, then sure why not, you could use the miner's output to keep the shed at a ok tempt and just vent what you need to keep the temps to something like 10C.

So were talking about reading thread though re-reading this is 3rd comment so hard to get it mixed up.  I still say putting a miner outside is not a good idea in a box as I don't see most having the build quality for outside air (rain/snow/heat/dust/etc).   But I do stick with in no way does a rig currently mining mean it's ok.

You can go back and forth if you want. Mix and twist posts but I don't agree with your original idea and that is my opinion.  But I will  leave it here as I was not seeking a forum battle.
488  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Help me build the perfect mining setup... on: June 15, 2016, 11:24:54 PM
So here is the situation, I do not pay for power so the amount of power it uses doesn't matter at all to me. My budget is $1000. I would need the full setup powersupplys etc... What is the best mining option I have considering the amount of power the rig will use doesnt matter (maybe theres a cheaper option because it uses alot of power but outputs alot etc... )

Also the miner is going to be next to my bed, so if you could make the noise low that would be great.

I would just skip this route.

And just go with buying bitcoin now, and sell the bitcoin after the halving price blows over and be settled with a free coin if it ever drops back in normal $500 zone minimum.

This is how I see it, but everyone has a different point of view.

Its FAR to hard to speculate what after having price will settle at.  We don't know 500, 700, etc.  It's simply guessing at this point.   If we remain where we are now I'm still not going to be sad though.

Your missing the part where he has "free" electricity so it is a heck of a advantage.  If I was him since looking at used gear I would wait till after having as likely he will get better deals on some models (again speculating depends on BTC price).  But waiting till having with "free" power and buying old gear seems to be the smart thing to do.
489  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Diff thread june 7 to june 20 -picks are open!!.... prize = 0.20 btc on: June 15, 2016, 11:21:41 PM
Coinbase seems to be inching up little by little currently at 694.5X.  So slowly heading twords 700 again (hopefully).  Last 12 hours or so have been pretty good hopefully that continues: http://www.coindesk.com/price/ .  Around 12 hours ago was the last dive down since then it's all been up.

And bitwsidom still under 5... so looking to be a great period so far in my eyes:
Bitcoin Difficulty:    196,061,423,940
Estimated Next Difficulty:    204,550,244,473 (+4.33%)
Adjust time:    After 836 Blocks, About 5.5 days
Hashrate(?):    1,448,760,046 GH/s

*Edit deleted a post as I felt better as a edit.  But as of 12:17:24 AM it had made it in to 707 area.  Now it's around 730 which is awesome.  I love watching it go up.
490  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Bitmain's Released Antminer S9, World's First 16nm Miner Ready to Order on: June 15, 2016, 11:17:26 PM
Well, price could possibly drop to 1900 or so and there'd be almost no difference. The problem is, Bitmain has the right to manipulate the prices as much as they like, because they're the only big company making any chips and miners right now. i'm guessing the "demand"(pretty high, i assume) will make the price go up AGAIN for the S9. Dunno why it's "limited edition" though. Maybe I missed something, but aren't all their miners "limited"? They all eventually become not produced anymore.

Suspect they are doing a bit of hype by limiting purchases to 5 units or less per order.  Doing so makes the home miner feel like the data centers won't overwhelm them, and perhaps by limiting the sale somewhat, difficulty won't spike as bad.  Note its 5 per order, not aware of anything to prevent someone from having 200 orders in.

I don't think it is done to cause a "bit of hype".  I personally think it has to do with it being new, but I am speculating there.   As far as more then 5 you should not be able to as they do mention it is per user:  "Because of this batch's limited quantity, there is a maximum limit of 5 units per user". This means that one user should not be able order more than 5 miners.

So it should again be monitored by wording based on username I would guess.   But I have not heard sharing ordering 5+ so we really don't know but I still don't think done for hype.
491  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: MOST COMMON MISTAKES OF A NEWBIE on: June 15, 2016, 07:16:44 AM
I think the biggest mistake is not doing due diligence in researching the (shit)coin before investing in it - whether its ICO or in exchanges or mining it. Not all coin projects that have very nicely worded announcements, good looking websites and lots of promises are not to be trusted straight away without knowing the background.

Some alt coin traders don't consider having a research first before they buy a coin. If they think the chart of the coin is promising, they will just buy it. They look for profit, they don't care about the devs and the use of the coin. Although those coins that are turning into a dump coin are mostly coins that have really low buy price. Coins that are being sold in a high price aren't likely to become a dump coin.

Also it depends if where you go for research.  Keep in mind if you go to certain threads that are pro (certain altcoin) like official threads in a lot of cases it will look really good and lot's of great comments.  So be careful on what you consider good research just to much pump/dump.

Sadly a LOT of altcoin's are not worth the investment in my eye's.  I would rather have the BTC and ride the value going up  (hopefully even more).  Other coin right now gaining lot's is Ether it has many fan's.   But keep in mind when you invest you might be losing gains you would have had in fiat value just by holding.  So sometimes just holding BTC itself is honestly a good idea.
492  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: The Best Initial Investment Thread/Guide - can you help? on: June 15, 2016, 07:11:22 AM
I used to have an investment in bitvest.io and the return were better than interest on banks, I would recommend doing that. You also should consider betking.io as a good investment site.
As of the word cloud mining, I don't trust them, there might be some legit and trustworthy cloud mining but most of them are a slow HYIP. I might be wrong but I would never suggest anyone to believe them.
There are many more ways to invest bitcoin, direct or indirect with the level of risk you want to go with, you can have variable returns.

Cloud mining you should go straight to hashnest.  It provides a safe and honest chance at ROI, there is no guarentee.  But with it being part of Bitmain you have the trust there, and you actually have hash out there.  It is not fake like so many other sites.  I would take hashocean site off your list above (also it has a referral on it not allowed it's the ?rid= and after that needs removed).

Also another valid solution for mining is buying gear and having it hosted somewhere.  There are a few choices out there on this.   But chances are again the gear will be Bitmain if you want current gen S9.  But I like owning gear personally.
493  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How to collect BTC ?? on: June 15, 2016, 07:05:30 AM
any info faucet good ??i hate gambling making me lose

Faucets are item's that pay out micro payments, most are almost dust amounts which is why people use wallets such as Xapo.   You will earn pennies per hour is what I say.  And sadly it is true.  I suggest looking for other ways to use the time.

On gambling... you lose long term on most any game (would say all but sport's betting/etc that some say they can win... but it is far from sure).  But gambling is a hobby not an investment so don't expect returns on it.

any soluition??
faucet bored
gambling lose
trader was lose btc in gambling

The truth is there is not a one size fit's all.  No follow XYZ steps and you will collect a lot or it would be a get rich quick scheme more or less.  I say find what you enjoy something that you love to spend time on and keep learning.

For me it's mining I love mining have for a long time, it is not for everyone.   Others trading just be careful for pump/dump coins really Ether is the coin most are looking at as far as alt-coin.   Faucet/Gambling are not valid way's to earn in my eyes.  As I mentioned gambling is a hobby it can possibly earn.... but over time you will lose so don't do it as a investment.
494  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Storing coins on: June 15, 2016, 07:02:34 AM
Anyone use the pi-wallet based on Raspberry PI ? The "build-your-own" one ?

Stupid question :
If you use Paper Wallet for offline storage, do you make a paper backup (ex. with Armory) and then delete the soft wallet ?
Or there is another method to make a paper wallet ?

Have not used a PI for wallet but it is a option as easy to unplug.  But I tend to use windows with hotwallet (smaller amount) or online for hotwallet it need when not home.  And paper wallet/hardware cannot be beat as far as real storage.

You can do many things to make backup's of paperwallet guess it depends on what is best for you.  You can keep a copy on a USB drive and store it away.  You can also make multiple copies of the paper wallet itself.  Basically safe storage is a must and not storing for example on your PC.
495  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Which firm of mining hardware providers is the best one? on: June 15, 2016, 06:57:07 AM
I just realised there is a good, totally accurate, and probably everyone can agree with it answer to the original question - as long as the hardware provider doesn't have to be mining-specific or an ASIC maker.

 AMD.

 8-)

If we are talking about ether which has gone popular it I would agree as far as GPU.  I have had many many AMD GPU's in different brand's and had pretty good luck a few RMA's along the way in LTC day's a while ago.

This does not carry over to BTC since SHA256 is by far an asic game.  No gpu can compete anymore.
496  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Bitmain's Released Antminer S9, World's First 16nm Miner Ready to Order on: June 15, 2016, 06:52:48 AM
Did not get a full 24 hours on F2 as I wanted but close enough to show.   S9 worked great on yet another pool with it and had good hashing rate.   It is a very large photo for the site graph so not picturing in thread instead a link - http://i100.photobucket.com/albums/m25/notlist3d/S9/f2_zpsqkffyf1z.jpg

So again all things looking good for the testing I have done so far.

Yeah Hi Guys, Can someone help me to find or to know how many people or account in this forum? Because I'm planning to add advertisement here..

There was a question in Meta a day ago with same question as far as users - https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1510167.0 .  If you look though it should help you see how many users currently.

Out of curiosity what do you plan to advertise?
498  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Questions about outdoor bitcoin mining on: June 15, 2016, 04:08:05 AM

Not really true I don't think on as long as they are mining it's ok.  If water can get in corrosion is possible most keep far away from water for this reason.   This is dated at this point but shows what water corrosion can do to a miner - https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=521520.msg11018389#msg11018389 .  So it can be running and still get corrosion.

A box outside that allows air in/out sounds like a way for water/snow/dust/other bad things to get in.   Putting it outside just scares me.   I don't see many "mining boxes" outside being weather proof.

Right, but i'm talking about a small shed "box", you can't leave electronic exposed to the outdoor in any case. They're going to get flooded and shorted long before corrosion sets in.

Again we don't know what OP is talking about on quality.  I see it hard small scale box to make it allow good air flow and block all water/dust/outside badness.   Evaporation or other things could cause corrosion as I showed a old SP20 that ran till corrosion got it (not mine).  It was from being to close to window.

There is no guarantee that you would get a flood of water vs corrosion but I guess depends on build quality.  But again if were talking about such a high quality miner box outside.... it does not make financial sense for 1 miner.  I still would avoid outdoors I don't agree with your "As long as the rigs are mining, i think its okay." due to air outside getting into this small box chances are.
499  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Help me build the perfect mining setup... on: June 15, 2016, 04:01:03 AM
On your budget, you should consider a pair of those new S7-LN units, I think that comes in within your budget and a pair of them RIGHT NOW should manage about $8/day - though that is subject to major change when the halfing hits, and some probably significant changes due to difficulty changes.

 They include power supplies.

You're NOT going to want to keep ANY miner in your bedroom, unless you are used to lots of airflow - any semi-current miner generate a LOT of heat, and it's gotta move the air to keep the chips cool enough to keep working.
Avalons tend to be quieter than Antminers, but they also tend to cost more for the same amount of hashpower.

Not sure if I trust Rosewill power supplies (Newegg house brand) since I have zero clue who actually MAKES the things.

Rosewill makes plenty of gaming accessories and such, they're a trusted company. I use them for their PSU'S and whenever I need a cheap gaming headset or keyboard. Smiley Their quality is good, but not a good as, say, EVGA is. Their quality is in the upper middle range. I've tried one of their psus, and they work fine, as long as you don't get their lowest watt, lowest cost psus. Those tend to break VERY easily. Now, for a miner, aim for something around S7 strength. S5 isn't worth using anymore, the days where even people with free electricity using them are gone. They've gone down the drain with the S3 simply because their hashrate is too low and the sound they make is too big. Sure, you can replace the fan, but it's really not worth even buying the miner anymore. B19 S7s (little bit more efficient than the rest, comes out soon) and the S7-LN and any avalon you can get your hands on for less than 500$ is great. I HIGHLY suggest the B19 S7s because of their low prices at 290$(factor in shipping, it gets expensive), or choose a spondoolies-tech. Usually I don't recommend those, but they work well, and even though their time has passed, they are still workhorses and are very cheap. Keep your miner in the basement or an enclosed space far away from your bedroom with good cooling. The basement keeps cool, and keeps the A/C costs low. Don't put ANYTHING near your bedroom except a S3 or a stickminer, because essentially anything else is just a blasting of wind in your ears, and you won't sleep at night. I guarantee that Smiley

Rosewill very much depends on the model in my experience.  I got one of their bargin ones (pretty sure it was them) on a newegg deal but one of it's adapters for PCIe was a splitter that was not up to mining.  This was back during old GPU day's and it burned the crap on top of splitter was scary at the time.  Then again I got one of their Rosewill LIGHTNING-1300 and it was great quality no issues.  So really depends on the model your looking at they have from low to high quality I would say depending on model.

Others I ended using more were EVGA 1300, or Corsair RM1000's.   I did not have any issues with either.  And of course went to server PSU's eventually as it seemed I got more bang for my buck.

Today was kinda all over a little bit on value dipped into mid 660's today.   Currently ended up around 684 which is not mad still - http://www.coindesk.com/price/ .  So we can see there are some selling which is not surprising people wanting some cash.   But I would still rate it a decent day on it.

Bitwisdom still under 5 percent which would be nice if it remain's true:
