patience buyers...miners will mine for you..lets buy XMR at cheap prices.

lots of smart people and respected members here see the potential and in a way created a buying hype..but XMR is still not as user friendly as BTC and not as known to many people yet.

Well the trouble is a low value may cause new potential developers to lose interest. Or worst case even the current developers.

People. Please don't give up hope.

hmm that's bad..

this is out of XMR topic and a little bit funny for me..coz now i see the advantage of dashcoin  Cheesy

quote from the OP of DSH:

Why mirror image is better than self sustained fork?
The reason is simple - costs. Self sustained forks demand a lot of development time, if you want to build a well maintained cryptocurrency. And if the network grows, the required development time is likely to grow too.
A simpler, and less costly way to maintain a network with high reliability is to create a self mutating copy of it. Mutating copy is a simple copy of the original source, mutating every time the original source mutates.

Even more - such a process can be automated!

Seriously? Relying on other people for development with that lame excuse?
So Bytecoin introduces some bug in purpose, dashcoin copies it automatically and destroys the network? Sounds really awesome...

yep that's why its funny..but solves the costs issue for development..bytecoin bug will affect them (bytecoin) first. bytecoin woudn't do that to themselves..i think so..
Dashcoin is a "shitcoin" for lack of a better word. Shitcoins may be pumped but eventually they all die due to lack of interest. They are usually created with the solo purpose of enriching the creator/early-adopter. It's pretty much the modern day form of a ponzi scheme.

Does it solve the cost of development? Certainly. But if all it takes is to copy/paste bitcoin/monero and have value is instantly created out of thin air then why not repeat this process a billion times? Quite simple: Unlimited inflation causes the coin to be worth zero.
482  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero - Secure, private, untraceable cryptocurrency - Now on Hitbtc.com on: July 13, 2014, 01:23:56 PM
So many people (including bitcointalk hero members and btc whales) saying they are buyers at this price but not bid support on the exchanges. I find this curious.

Buy Orders
Price   XMR   BTC
0.00240200   301.44639286   0.72407424
0.00240005   83.33159726   0.2
0.00240003   20.83307292   0.05
0.00240002   2054.5795685   4.93103206
0.00240001   500   1.200005
0.00240000   1658.80367081   3.98112881

There are 75 BTC against 89000 XMRs at Poloniex, divide 75/89000 = 0.0008, that's the average price buyers are willing to pay. Frankly, I don't see how the price can be 5x higher than its closest competitor Boolberry, both coins are technically equal. Even hero members are not bigger than the market and can't support the price indefinately.
Network effect, liquidity, first mover advantage. Monero is THE cryptonote currency. Everything else is altcoins. Why do you think bitcoin is worth 70 times more than litecoin?

Boolberry does not offer anything significantly better/different than monero.

If all it takes is to have a technically equal currency for it to be valued at 1:1 ratio then you also need to understand that all coins will be equally worthless due to unlimited inflation.
483  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Please stop turning into morons just because you see "Brock Pierce" somewhere on: July 11, 2014, 11:47:36 PM
Very disappointing to see so many uninformed replies in this thread. We should welcome anything that can allow decentralization of exchanges, a fiat or gold backed blockchain is definitively one step in the right direction. The issuer needs to be able to deal with the regulatory challenges and that's no small hurdle to overcome, but if it can be done, this could be amazing.

If given the choice between holding a decentralized but centralized backed currency versus a centralized and centralized backed currency I'd likely go with the former. Imagine if victims of mtgox could trade their goxUSD/goxBTC now? Or what if the holders of gold in e-gold could trade it? Perhaps you don't want to wait for 5 years to get your gold back and rather sell it off to someone who is willing to for a discount?

It's not fully decentralized since you must trust the issuer (and more importantly be aware of the government and their intentions), but it's one step in that direction as you now have full control of the token, while previously it would be stuck in your account on some website. Most importantly you can't run a decentralized exchanges with paypal/bank/pm like you can with a blockchain.

There is another advantage: It minimize the likelihood of failure when the only job of the entity is to secure and distribute the funds, versus also running an exchange and/or payment provider at the same time.

Wasn't someone doing this for gold? I seem to recall that. I'd love to see fully backed gold blockchain. The problem the issuer have is how to be left alone (from government thieves). Is there a place on earth where setting up this will work long-term? Perhaps not, but both e-gold and liberty reserve did last for many years. In 5-10 years bitcoin may very well be so widely accepted that there is no longer a big need for it.

I'm watching this.
484  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: OKpay and MtGox on: July 03, 2014, 11:56:43 PM
Accepting deposits through OKPAY when already insolvent sounds pretty fucking criminal to me. I sent more than $100k USD to mtgox using OKPAY in february, we still have no idea what happened. Did mark steal the money? did he forget the private key? did he get robbed? Nobody knows.

What we do know is that deposits was accepted and credited until the very end even though Mark knew mtgox was insolvent earlier (like expressed in the crisis draft). I'm hoping OKPAY will refund the money in full, I absolutely did not get what I paid for.

Hi! Thanks to the XMR community for your response. We've now secured two Market Maker contracts, which means that in the near future we will add XMR to Hitbtc. New Market Makers are still welcome, visit our official page to know more about contract proposal: https://hitbtc.com/mm

XMR, Welcome to Hitbtc!  Cheesy

SO IT BEGINS! Monero is added to Hitbtc exchange! You are all welcome to start trading!

I am not signed yet for a while. I've gone to the site and see no XMR trading. For control purposes, I went to the Poloniex & MintPal and DO see Monero trading - charts and even distinct orders - easily, without sign in.

You guys have to completely simplify web ui of hitbtc.com - I can not start trading intuitively. So I ask - how I can see Monero orders & start trading?

You have to be logged in. They should change it so that all markets can be viewed by the public.

Is HiBTC for real ? there is like 200+ BTC buy walls from 4 to 3,6 mBTC. If this is real, this is already the exchange with the strongest BTC support for XMR.

Seems legit.
Yeah that's a lot. 88 BTC on poloniex vs 217 BTC on hitbtc. Only the owner of hitbtc know if this is real. Could be they put up a lot of walls to attract customers. They also asked for "Market Makers", so could be someone with a lot of monero / btc agreed to that.

487  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: rpietila Altcoin Observer on: July 03, 2014, 07:39:32 PM
What could possibly be the rationale for holding litecoin in the year 2014?

Whales who got them for a few cents or mined them in the early days could still be holding them, simply because they have too many of them and can't sell all at once because the market is too thin, so they are selling them off gradually. Now, who is buying - that's the question.
What happened with litecoin is pretty interesting. I was loaded with litecoin before the last bubble, but ended up selling too early to profit immensely.

If you look at the graph, LTC was around 0.007 and the majority opinion at the time was that litecoin was dead. But then Max Keiser came along out of nowhere and announced a target of $50. Immediately afterwards the price spiked. A few days later, Karl Gray announced $50 target on his twitter.

Now who is Karl Gray? It's not just anybody. In fact Karl Gray holds approximately 100 000 BTC. And he wants more, he was one of the sellers during our latest BTC rise to $1k ++ and subsequent drop. He has already bought back at massive profit.

Max Keiser is no minor btc player either, with 5-digit worth of BTC in his holdings. It seems pretty likely that Max and Karl accumulated litecoin near the bottom only to hype and pump it up massively to sell out for 3-5x return on their investment. All the sheeps bought and are now holding the bag.

Why litecoin? Liquidity. These guys own 5 and 6 digits amount of BTC. They need massive liquidity to increase their holdings by any significant degree. And as such litecoin has been a blessing. Will history repeat itself? That's the question. It honestly would not surprise me at all. Due to this I will be looking at LTC again sub 0.01. I don't believe in LTC, but I'd certainly ride along for such a massive pump if I can. There is ofc the risk that I'll be going down with a sinking ship, so I have no hurry and will only consider prices below 0.01, anything else is too much atm.

It's important to buy when there is blood in the street. The current decline is painful but we need a lot more despair and people to lose faith before it's a good buying opportunity.

Did you make this from scratch? Can you provide source files? Looks awesome, this could really be a great mascot. +1 for naming it "Luke".
Sure, here you go
Thanks, but I was thinking more like .psd files or whatever you use. Do you draw these yourself or did you hire a designer ?

.PSD - This one is for your good intentions. Luke was drawn by our staff designer, so yes to both answers  Grin

Perfect! Thank you very much. I may try to hire him one day if he is available.

I lost about ~20 BTC here  Cry why XMR is down!!!!!!
There are not enough buyers to sustain a price of say 0.008 at the moment. 24k XMR is being mined every day, at 0.008 that's 192 btc. Surely it's not all dumped on the market but it's certainly contributing to downward pressure along with people who bought higher that are now selling in panic and also people who bought much lower who secures profit in btc. Nothing surprising about this, every large price increase tends to overshoot and come back down. Hopefully you still got a decent amount of BTC, buying range 0.002-0.004 is decent (buy more the lower it goes). In fact previous increase when XMR was added to poloniex took us to 0.008 and down to about 0.0017 before it turned up again. I think we're staying above 0.002 this time though.

The continued lifting of Monero to new heights in the voting list is inspirational!

To support your loyal community we decided to create an original and recognizable image. It needs a name, and it's up to you to come up with something suitably memorable for the guy! Grin
Monero is now in the top 10 and your active voting will most likely put it in the lead sooner or later.

Hah! Can you believe this guy? Whatever the reason for trolls to love this coin so much and produce all the FUD, just ignore this bait and he'll get bored.

Also, one good way to make these guys shut up once and for all is to get rid of all the uncertainty and doubt by making certain the coin gets added to as much exchanges as possible. Look alive, guys! Only about 30 registered users gave their voice for Monero in our voting so far. That's not so much for a tread of this massive size. We don't want whomever owns this guy overtaking Monero do we? Let's push forward and get Monero integrated into Hitbtc as soon as possible!

Our exchange supports up to 1 000 000 operations per second and SEPA & Swift transactions. From Monero - straight to USD or EUR.

494  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Bytecoin [BCN] vs MONERO [XMR] who will be the winner in the Cryptonote War on: June 25, 2014, 11:25:15 PM
I'd like to see the developers behind bytecoin come forward and destroy the premine in order to make the coin fair. I realize this probably is not going to happen so for me Monero is the winner. I do own some bytecoin, but mostly for short term speculation. I don't see how bytecoin can ever become big with the current issues unresolved. And perhaps it's best this way, I like the name "monero" from a marketing point of view.

I don't own any BBR, FCN, QCN or XDN, I believe in supporting the first fair release with a competent developer team, and that is monero.
495  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Official Anoncoin chat thread (including history) on: June 25, 2014, 10:55:58 PM
Why isn't anoncoin on Mint, Pol or Bittrex?
Why is anoncoin, instead of some other coin, supposed to be the first coin to implement Zerocash?
Go easy on me, I haven't been following.

I also have same questions.

Nobody voted anoncoin in on mintpal and mintpal hasn't bothered adding it. Probably a similar story for bittrex. As for why anoncoin is implementing zerocoin (not zerocash), it's simply because the guy "gnosis" decided to join the developer team behind anoncoin. Why did he choose anoncoin? no idea.
496  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Official Anoncoin chat thread (including history) on: June 25, 2014, 10:20:50 AM
How far away is Zerocoin implementation? ETA?

In Approx 15 days. To be released in testnet for test purpose. And will be released in Anoncoin main network after that.

Approx 15 days? Seems very soon. What is left to do? IMO if targets like this are not met the price suffers.
That target won't be met, new deadline posted by Gnosis is 4 weeks from June 20th: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=227287.msg7425706#msg7425706 - and that's just the testnet

Have you seen the new web page https://bytecoin.org/index ? cool.  Wink

wow looks really great. i like bytecoin more and more.
Yeah it looks nice, but the previous design look pretty good too. Why go through all the trouble to release this design in May only to have it replaced less than 2 month later? A little strange.

News section on CryptoNote.org
We are happy to announce a news section on the cryptonote.org. The new section is dedicated to new developments, ideas and news from the CryptoNote realm. About two years ago the CryptoNote technology had only been represented by Bytecoin (BCN) but since then things have changed dramatically. Not only the number of Bytecoins has soared, the other coins such as Quazarcoin, Fantomcoin and Monero are taking the cryptocurrency world by storm. The CryptoNote community becomes very diverse and geographically disseminated therefore we believe it is our duty to spread the word and bring everyone at one place.  Just by clicking on the news tab you’ll have the latest account on what’s been going on with CryptoNote-based currencies along with fresh updates from the devs at hand. The idea is to turn this website into a vibrant pool of information accessible to anybody who wants to keep one's finger on the pulse of CryptoNote technology. If you are a CryptoNote enthusiast and you have some ideas worth sharing, please don’t hesitate to contact us at news@cryptonote.org

What order are the coins being listed on https://cryptonote.org/coins.php

It doesn't seem to be order of release, order of name, order of currency code.

So what is it?
The main/first cryptonote is listed first (bytecoin) then the rest (altcoins) are listed alphabetically below.
