481  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: The global decentralized secure electronic voting system is up and running on: January 23, 2012, 10:36:34 AM
Here is an article related to using Bitcoin approach in electronic election system:
http://www.newscientist.com/article/mg21328476.500-bitcoin-online-currency-gets-new-job-in-web-security.html
They call it CommitCoin, not sure if it is alternative chain or something on top of Bitcoin network.
482  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Several steady unknown deposits on my MtGox account on: January 22, 2012, 11:42:48 AM
It could be an attempt to spam the network, you are lucky to get 15 BTC for free Smiley
483  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why so many rejected transactions? on: January 22, 2012, 11:40:09 AM
I think someone is trying to spam or break the network.

There was a thread where a guy admitted he was hired for the project to destroy Bitcoin.
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=52080.0

Also this thread
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=58728.0
could be an attempt to a network spamming attack.
484  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: BIP 17 on: January 21, 2012, 03:31:40 PM
What if we implement both approaches on two different networks: BIP16 on Bitcoin and BIP17 on Litecoin.
I consider Litecoin a healthy alternative to Bitcoin, it might be lacking some marketing as of now, but that might change in the future.
This way we will have a backup solution for Bitcoin in case the approach taken was a mistake.
485  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Litecoin - a lite version of Bitcoin. Launched! on: January 21, 2012, 03:26:04 PM
Are there any plans on further development of Litecoin?
The latest client 0.5.0.8 is dated back to November 22 and there haven't been any updates ever since.
Is multisig planned in any form? How about fixing wallet encryption bug (or is it fixed)?

There is a discussion right now whether to deploy P2SH (Gavin) or CHV (Luke) way of doing multisig, what if Litecoin project picks up the one opposite to Bitcoin once that decision is made. This way we will have a backup solution for Bitcoin in case the approach taken was a mistake.

Just don't abandon the development of new features so early.

This would be awesome!
487  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Bitcoin BIP 16 /P2SH/ is bad, your action is needed! on: January 19, 2012, 12:55:32 PM
I'm wondering if the following scenario is possible with P2SH:

"Ex:  I want to buy a FPGA miner for 100 bitcoins.

I put 100 in escrow.  The seller is required to put some amount, maybe 10%  along with mine in to escrow.  Range could be a sliding scale from 1% to 100% of the amount I put in escrow.  Escrow now contains 110 coins.

You would have to be a pretty rich jerk to maliciously scam people repeatedly.  Worst case scenario, untrusting buyers could demand 100% matching escrows for first time transactions."

489  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: I might have the solution for making escrow in bitcoin easier on: January 19, 2012, 12:48:06 PM
A two party escrow would eliminate malicious fraud.  Surprised no one has mentioned it.

Ex:  I want to buy a FPGA miner for 100 bitcoins.

I put 100 in escrow.  The seller is required to put some amount, maybe 10%  along with mine in to escrow.  Range could be a sliding scale from 1% to 100% of the amount I put in escrow.  Escrow now contains 110 coins.

I like the idea by CoinSpeculator very much!
Is it possible with P2SH multisig approach currently being implemented?

P2SH is discussed here:

490  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Bitcoin BIP 16 /P2SH/ is bad, your action is needed! on: January 16, 2012, 04:31:35 PM
By the way last time I checked P2Pool was third in hashrate distribution (after DeepBit and BTCGuild) so convincing a few pool owners might still work for some time, but in a long run individual miners should be involved in decision making and everybody should understand the pros and cons of a particular approach.

Wherever you are getting that information, it is incorrect.

P2Pool is growing, but it's not growing that fast.

I checked at bitcoinwatch.com it could have been a spike or other pools were down, anyway it seems more than 1% right now.
And then there is this Unknown blob, what if those guys aren't following the thread and won't upgrade?
We should consider all consequences.
491  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Bitcoin BIP 16 /P2SH/ is bad, your action is needed! on: January 15, 2012, 03:19:34 PM
I originally voted for Luke's CODEHASHCHECK proposal because it sounded more elegant and because I fully support the idea of bitcoin becoming more democratic. However I liked the analogy of P2SH like being a preprocessor to C++ in this post by Stefan Thomas: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=56969.msg691560#msg691560 so I might consider voting for P2SH as well. Of course one might argue that bitcoin protocol should not evolve as C++ but that's another story.

Anyway my point is that we should consider worst cases more carefully compared to what particular approach enables.
There must be a step-by-step plan of what might go wrong and what our actions should be.

This is my fifth post and I've been logged in for more than 5 hours now.
So I should be eligible for whitelisting.
I'm following the discussion about upcoming protocol change closely and would like to participate in those threads.

Msin, what email service did you use?

If email companies have access to so many details about your account then they can actually request password change first then get into your account do whatever they want and then delete certain incoming emails to make it look like it was an attacker.

We need to start thinking about decentralized email service!

I said to myself "What is this vague, meaningless tripe?" Then I looked to the right and saw the other videos about reptilians and whatnot from the same guy. The red "X" in the upper right corner of the youtube window has never been clicked faster.

Hmm... that video about reptilians was quite interesting too. Thanks for bringing it up!
495  Other / Beginners & Help / Bitcoin prediction is coming true!!! on: November 26, 2011, 12:55:10 AM
Just watch this video, where Bashar speaks about stock market crash:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8LQp7Or1GNU

"then the new systems will already be in place and will be capable of sprouting up very rapidly to form a network that will take over the job and in a sense provide a little bit more equality"
...
"if new systems are in place by people who are excited and creative to put them there, then when the other system collapses it wont matter, for those that have prepared themselves will not feel the negative effect"

So to sum it up:
he is talking about a system which forms a network created by the people to take over the job when the old system collapses!!!
Wow that's gotta be it!!!
Thus Bashar predicted Bitcoin several years in advance, it looks like conversation was recorded before 2005 and posted on youtube in 2009.

What do you guys think?
Somebody should post this on a regular bitcoin forum, I'm still newby...
Will go buy a few bitcoins while they are still cheap Smiley

Hi guys!

It took me half an hour to figure out that I'm a newby and cannot post anywhere other than here (thanks to the news string at the top).
So what should I do to get approval to post to normal threads? I wanted to comment something on Tenebrix, but apparently cannot do this.
