481  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: GekkoScience 2Pac BM1384 Stickminer Official Support Thread on: March 24, 2017, 02:45:36 AM
vh, how hard would it be to have "--enable-icarus" and "--enable-gekko" play nicely?

Pull the latest code and have at it.

And if icarus driver could be tweaked not to accept Compacs and 2Pacs, that would be great Smiley

Nope.

Use the -n flag and --dev flag in cgminer to select the device you want.

Use --enable-gekko to support the Compacs and 2Pacs.
482  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: GekkoScience 2Pac BM1384 Stickminer Official Support Thread on: March 24, 2017, 02:37:36 AM
That makes sense. Thanks Biodom. Its running my single green compac now so i am hoping once vh updates it (and hopefully provides lamens terms to update the current version ive got  Wink ) then ill be ready to go for when my 2pacs get here  Grin

Here's how to grab the update:
Code:
cd ~/git/vthoang/cgminer/
git pull
make -j 2

./cgminer -o stratum+tcp://solo.ckpool.org:3333 -u 1BURGERAXHH6Yi6LRybRJK7ybEm5m5HwTr -p x --suggest-diff 32

Adjust that last line as needed.

New build is available (b756f23).   git pull and build as time permits.

- Supports bitshopperde compacs.
- Can now combine --enable-icarus --enable-gekko
- Auto recover attempts from usb write error.

Directly plugged in, but I figure the port can't handle it. will go out and look to buy a powered usb hub tomorrow.
It works, ran for nearly 18hrs before it dropped off.

On windows, disable this setting in the advance power options in the control panel if your PC is constantly on, just in case:

485  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: GekkoScience 2Pac BM1384 Stickminer Official Support Thread on: March 23, 2017, 10:45:41 PM
No, because he specifically said "bitshopper Compac", not black 2Pac.

VH do you have a bitshopper Compac config? I've got one I can plug in if you want to read it.

Cool, leave it connected.   I won't be able to get to it for a few more hours.
486  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: GekkoScience 2Pac BM1384 Stickminer Official Support Thread on: March 23, 2017, 10:39:31 PM
It's possible VH's driver doesn't recognize the bitshopper product string. Reckon we'll need to get that fixed here directly since I'm working on bitshopper 2Pacs right now.

hmm... yes it is very possible I didn't finish connecting the dots there.  99.2% likely.
I'll add it shortly.
487  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: GekkoScience 2Pac BM1384 Stickminer Official Support Thread on: March 23, 2017, 05:37:54 AM
Eh, just remembered one more thing (my last post for today, I promise Smiley )

If you reset the stick after a few rounds of Found 0 chip(s) - Disabling! and it's starts hashing, numbers in the device list and device number reported once a share is found are misaligned. Right now I have GSDs listed as 21 and 22 in device list and shares reported for devices 15 and 16

They actually represent two different things, top stats are global device id (digit to left).   Logs are per device type ids (digits to right).
If you have mix devices the number will diverge more apparently.

New build is available (4fc8783).   git pull and build as needed.

- slight adjustment to ticket_mask and ramping
- check device health before creating an actual driver thread
- tidy up resources on failure

I guess there's no point in retrying via software when we see "Found 0 chip(s) on GSD 0".
Let me see if I can get it to just display "OFF" to signal folks to unplug, adjust voltage, and plug it back in.

Hm, I'd be careful with that. I've seen, more than once, Found 0 chip(s) on cgminer startup and after one or two "restarts" stick is detected/reports correctly

For now, I'm going go with you've got a special stick.

p.s. I rebooted and it runs the gekkos fine but unsure if it updated ready for when i get my 2pacs.

You are ready for the 2pac if the current compac's statistic line shows something very similar to:
"0: GSC 10000010: COMPAC-1 150.00MHz HW:0 | 9.011G / 8.042Gh/s WU:56.5/m"

question please:

Your pool interests me and am thinking of joining.
However, being an infrequent miner, will it penalize me by mining only late at night and throughout the weekend?
Does pplns penalize you if you are an infrequent Bitcoin miner?
I have about 17000gh/s to throw your way.

No penalty.   You get rewarded for your accepted share over the last n shares when the block is found.

Yours shares on the weekend will be counted if a block is found while you are not mining on Monday.
You not mining all daytime Friday will reflect if a block is found on the weekend with its 5n look back (currently ~4days 9hrs.).

It averages itself out to an effective hashrate "Your N Avg" for mining.
495  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Should I invest? on: March 14, 2017, 04:43:13 AM
The $ increase only scales the net.
If you don't net profit, then it doesn't help.

If you manage to get yourself:
1. A working device on the first try.
2. A good buy price (30-40% under 6 month gross)
3. Low electricity.

Succeeding in two of the three will lean more towards being worth it.
Still a bet on how things will look 6 months from now.

Use this tool I clobbled together to think about it:
http://mining.tipsternet.com/miner.html

And check the forums on vendor product complaints *cough*Antminers*cough*.

I'd love to see a boost program where once a month you activate it and kano code will prioritize your source address ( payout addr ) tx into the next block  Cool.    Probably near impossible to implement, but way cool.

Every time we find a block, we pay the shares for a certain amount up to when the block was found.

Thoughts on an adjusted version of this:

Every time we find a block: 1. Rewards for recently matured (unpaid) blocks are released, 2. You earn rewards for your accepted shares for a certain amount up to when the block was found.

I also thought it's a good time to send a reminder plug for Zach's monitor.
All newbies should take a look at it for a different perspective for kano.is published stats and as a supplemental tool as mentioned in the OP.

Nice.   Thank for the photo sharing.
I'll look into adding some notes for using screen to my opening post so you can tap into the running linux shell remotely.
Useful when running headless.

Roughly:
Code:
sudo apt-get install screen
screen -dmS gekko

#From any other (remote) same user's shell:
screen -x gekko

@vh

cannot run ./cgminer EXACTLY as you wrote on rasp pi, but it works if i use sudo

is this OK, or better to apply what you have in Q&A section?

4 2pacs, two green and two blacks run nice (so far). one green was zombie initially, but upon hot replug become a nice stickie  Grin

Will post pictures of my setup shortly...

It's your device, sudo is fine.
Just know you are giving that code full access to everything on your pi; hardware, software, personal, public, network, etc...
