481  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Love Max Keiser's Show - (I think I need change my dollars) on: November 12, 2013, 12:54:04 AM
Big fan of Max Keiser too ever since I discovered Russia Today.

I'm also a big fan of Have I got News for You. Didn't realise he'd been on, will have to catch that episode.

Been to a few filming of HIGNFY and yes they film a lot, and keep what they best judge to be funny and is required for continuity. They have a team watching for the final edit and sometimes re-shoot a few bits at the end (normal the guest hosts bits) too to improve on the original takes and improve continuity.

Who says the camera never lies.

485  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin security for websites that accept bitcoins on: November 10, 2013, 11:39:06 AM
I thought of something similar:

1. use vanitygen to make a few thousand addresses offline.
2. use pywallet to make a watch-only clone wallet.dat. Then you can use bitcoind safely.
3. use something that notifies you when 50% of the addresses have been used. You then manually add new addresses. Or you keep track of your orders anyway, so you should know.

I read somewhere that you can generate a 'seed' for public and private addresses offline and then use this public seed to generate as many addresses as you want on your public server, i.e. one per customer. Any time funds are spent to these addresses they are then in cold storage. Using the private seed, which you store offline, you can then access any of these cold storage addresses when you want.

I can think of a couple ways this can be done cryptographically. I can't remember specifically where I first read about this but I've been meaning to read/think more on this at some point...
486  Economy / Service Discussion / Does anyone have any experiance of cryptocoinwalletcards.com on: November 10, 2013, 02:07:55 AM
I bought some cards from: cryptocoinwalletcards.com

About to start using them, the chap who runs it seems reliable but I wanted to ask if anyone else had direct experience of this company?

They sell wallets for Bitcoin, Litecoin and PPCoin.

This is very big news.
488  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Is eBay.co.uk blocking 'casascius' as a search term? on: November 08, 2013, 06:52:01 PM
Ok, so if I search for - "mckenzie back" I get results for "mckenzie black". Entering ""mckenzie" back" returns a literal result.

I'm guessing that eBay's search algorithm has been changed to return the largest set of matches for similar search terms rather than actually searching for what I entered.

Guess that explains why Casascius goes to cassius unless I use the quotes to force it to search correctly.

A feature not a bug!

490  Economy / Service Discussion / Is eBay.co.uk blocking 'casascius' as a search term? on: November 07, 2013, 09:54:26 AM
From my perspective searching for 'casascius' on ebay.co.uk returns no results.

Does anyone else get the same?
491  Bitcoin / Press / Re: 2013-11-06 readwrite: Why Small Businesses Have The Most To Gain From Bitcoin on: November 07, 2013, 01:32:25 AM
I often hear people say "Bitcoin is not backed by anything... therefore it has no value", but they are wrong: Bitcoin is backed by the monetisation of proof of work.

When people don't understand something they often chose to try ignore it. Then re-enforce their justification for that choice.

Are there any plans to petition Vircurex or BTC-E to get CGB onto their exchanges?
493  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Autonomous corporations based on Bitcoin, Namecoin and Bitmessage on: November 05, 2013, 10:55:33 AM
Nice idea. Need to fix Namecoin or generate a better decentralised (PoW/PoS) based DNS system first though.

Interesting video. Good set of straw man arguments coming form the guy with the beard.
495  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Two separate Bitcoin items on RT this evening plus a mention of Swiftcoin? on: November 04, 2013, 01:30:59 AM
Ok, got it:

This was the broadcast I saw, check out Mr David Bruno at 09:06:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JB0jTL0iyzM

He seems to be linked to first national bank.

So RT called in an 'expert' who's plugging his own carbon copy closed source version of Bitcoin on TV.

Good job RT  Embarrassed.

Check this out, they've even used Casascius's physical bitcoins as a background for their vouchers!

497  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Two separate Bitcoin items on RT this evening plus a mention of Swiftcoin? on: November 04, 2013, 12:28:43 AM
Watching Russia Today here in the UK and there were two separate items about Bitcoin within half an hour of each other. Nice. Got to love Russia Today.

The second item had an interview with a guest 'expert' who mentioned new forms of money like "Bitcoin and Swiftcoin". What is Swiftcoin and for what reason would a supposed expert mention it?

Best lead I could find is this which seems to be propriety attempt at Bitcoin:

http://www.firstnationalbnak.com/faq     <     good luck with that.
