Just my honoust opinion and 2 Bitcents, but won't that make the pages load far less quick for some people?
Not to mention security hazards and added server load. No thanks...

The whole page loads before the video, so that wouldn't be a problem. The server load would go to Google, which I'm fairly sure has the way to handle it.

About security... I don't know, but I think there shouldn't be a problem either.

You are already a Sr. Member. You should remember how you did it last time.
483  Other / New forum software / Re: Can we "Like" a post? on: March 07, 2015, 10:29:54 PM
Should we add something like -1 as well?

So if the post has too much -1s, then a moderator will get automatically notified.

Why a mod should get notified when a post is -1? We need a "thanks" button not a "like" button. This is not a social network (like facebook, and others) it is a forum.

If you want report a post to a staff member, you should use the "report to moderator" function (at the right of each post here in the forum).

This may not be a “social network”, but I bet people socialize anyway. Also, the reason I still think a Like button is better than a Thanks button is because most of the time you like a post (maybe it's an opinion you agree with, or a joke, or an interesting article, or something else), but don't necessarily feel thankful for that.

Also smart feature would be topic rating with example 5 stars max and 0 min.

I think a 5-star system is overkill. For example, YouTube changed their 5-star system with a like-dislike system some years ago.

Excuse my ignorance, but why is this thread not in the Altcoin section?

As I understand it, the discussion is intended to be about crytponote protocol, not specifically an altcoin.

But CryptoNote is not Bitcoin. It shouldn't be in the Bitcoin Discussion section.

Stack Exchange's system works because it's a Q&A site. BitcoinTalk, on the other hand, is a forum, focused on discussions, not just Q&As.

If you want, there is already a Bitcoin Stack Exchange.

I wonder if bitcointalk.org could handle even 1 search per second.  Cheesy

Bitcointalk is not designed to be a site used by everyone in the world. Compare to Facebook or Google, which are in fact designed for this.

I only use my credit card twice a week ... do the maths. Roll Eyes

Let's assume 1 billion people in the world have a credit card, and only use it twice a week. This gives:

2 billion transactions per week
~286 million transactions per day
~12 million transactions per hour
~198 thousand transactions per minute
~3300 transactions per second

So, even with these low usages, the current Bitcoin 2 transactions per second (it's less than 7, actually) is not enough for a global economy.

You can find the “Bitcoin 20MB fork” thread, which discusses precisely this.
491  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why was 21 million coins chose as the total number of bitcoins? on: March 03, 2015, 04:52:04 PM
I think asking this kind of questions is like asking “Why did you wear green clothes today?”. Yes, there was a decision to be made, but not a very deep one, to be honest.
492  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why was 21 million coins chose as the total number of bitcoins? on: March 03, 2015, 01:44:58 PM
The answer to the universe and everything is 42.
Since we are human, imperfect, and not God, and only know half of everything, we should use half of 42.
Therefore, 21 million coins represents that half of the great work is done.  Wink

If somebody knew half of everything today, they could pretty much become God.
493  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin 20MB Fork on: March 02, 2015, 09:25:37 PM
The true value proposition of Bitcoin isn't that everybody can send virtual gold dust around, it's that you can actually see your bank's gold stash behind bulletproof crypto-glass.

There's no use in being able to see my gold stash if I can't enter the vault and do whatever I want with my gold.

Where people choose to pay seo's to buy likes just to gain popularity.

Yeah, because people here don't buy accounts so they can have better signature campaigns. Not at all.

Bill is way more common than Satoshi

Not in Japan.

The Bitcoin wallets getting to big people. And downloading it go to slow, It took me 3 days to download. (I have 200MB up and Down INTERNET connection)

If you keep Bitcoin 1MB block limit, people will be forced to use other altcoins as well, so you basically have to download all blockchains anyway because not everyone is going to accept Bitcoin, so you save nothing from this point.

Exactly, why don't people understand this?
So making the blocks bigger will fix this?

No. What I (and cambda, hopefully) am trying to say, is that you will need a whole lot of disk space, no matter what solution is chosen. There's no way to escape that.
497  Other / Off-topic / Re: boy/girl threads on: March 02, 2015, 04:38:52 PM
You started well, showing how it's ridiculous to point out whether someone is a boy or a girl when using Bitcoin.

Then you go with your misogynistic crazy hypothesis about women attacking men when throughout history it's women that have been oppressed, and not the other way round.

500  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Do boys use bitcoin? on: March 02, 2015, 04:27:14 PM
Trolling ? Well yes boys use Bitcoin , most of the Bitcoiners are Boys because basically men are interessted more then women in technology and those stuff . at least this is what I think , not sure about animals tho  Roll Eyes

Men are not “more interested” than women, but sexism prevents women from actually participating in stuff like this.
