Now, that's scary. I've never thought in that direction, and you're right.

When I bought the first smartphone that had this option, I also did not think too much about it, and then I accidentally read some advice from the manufacturer who warned about the possibility of such abuse. The advice is to use a fingerprint to unlock the device in a safe environment and while we are not sleeping, and to turn this option off when sleeping.

It's not just about data security on the device, but also about protecting our privacy - although jealous women (but also husbands) don't mind peeking into their partner's device from time to time.
4802  Other / Meta / Re: Email address when making reports on: May 21, 2022, 02:37:33 PM
I can't see the user's email whether it is in reports or in their profile. I'm not sure about global mods though, it might be different for them.

I can't find that post, but I'm pretty sure @hilariousandco has confirmed that he doesn't see the email addresses of users who have reported a post. I’m not sure when he became a global mod, but back in 2014 he was at least a mod or part of the staff when he wrote the following :

Only certain mods can see it - I can't for instance - but I agree that if it doesn't need to be there then it should be removed.

This is the most disgusting witch/ogre I've ever seen in my life.  Incompetent beyond imagination, brainless ugly piece of shit. Something like a non-binary cake male plane transgender version of putler.

Eeewww 🤮

Speaking of looks, I remembered who she reminds me of - World War Z can invite her to audition if they ever shoot a sequel - she would fit in perfectly with the zombie team, with just a little makeup Wink

4805  Economy / Economics / Re: CBN to stop circulation of Naira note on: May 21, 2022, 01:13:39 PM
If the Nigerian government push people into e-naira while they are stopping "bitcoin trading" and banks connected accounts, they are invariably speaking with both sides of the mouth

Such actions speak for themselves, it is unlikely that such things happen by accident. The goal is to impose as much financial control as possible, and on the other hand to make it harder for people to trade Bitcoin. Every government is afraid of losing control of the people, and they are doing so with the help of money that is completely under their control - and to be at least somewhat independent of that system means that you are not dependent on the government and politicians.

Most politicians consider themselves irreplaceable and have a very big opinion of themselves - you just need to listen to what they say at their political rallies. A financially independent person is a danger to them because he simply does not care about their rallies, ideas, or parliamentary/presidential elections.

I think CBN officials are out of their mind.

I am not versed in who is actually pulling the strings in Nigeria (by which I mean international influence), but local politics is not always a product created in the minds of local politicians but is very often the result of external influence. Maybe someone just wants to prevent any possibility of Nigeria approaching any decentralization at all - it is much easier to do business with corrupt politicians than with honest ones.

@fillippone, you forgot to put a link to the content Wink

And as for the opinion of anti-Bitcoin Christine, this is not something new - she has been repeating it since 2019 when she took over the presidency of the ECB. I am more concerned about her inability to curb inflation, and the ECB will reportedly decide to raise interest rates only in July, although the current monetary policy is completely unsustainable.

Earlier this year, Christine Lagarde, who has just been nominated to replace Mario Draghi as president of the European Central Bank (ECB), warned that cryptocurrencies are "shaking the system"—something that could signal a change in the ECB's approach to bitcoin and crypto and potentially spur adoption..."Not bitcoin, of course, but she has advocated already for state-backed cryptocurrencies as well as settlement tokens like XRP and JPM coin. We can expect that someone so crypto friendly in such a position will be good for the industry as a whole."

How so, please explain I urge thee. I would think a fingerprint feature on a phone or any other device is tough to break. I use it on my phone and it's seamless to use.

In case someone forces you to unlock your smartphone that way, you won't have too many choices - either you'll do it voluntarily, or you risk losing your finger (or your whole hand). Furthermore, if you are sleeping or in a state where you are not fully aware (drugs/alcohol), someone can use it and unlock your device.

As for classic hacking, various methods have existed for years, and here you can read about one that is relatively simple and cheap -> Hacking Fingerprints Is Actually Pretty Easy—and Cheap

LoyceV asked me to edit my posts and add the sources. I have edited a few posts, but I could not edit all of them because I forgot if they were copied or not. psycodad and LoyceV warned me on October 19-2021. After that, I never plagiarized. Before October 19-2021, I made a maximum of 70(+-) posts. The post they reported was before this date. So, My question for the community is, How still I am a liar while I never plagiarized after October-19-2021?

There is no doubt that you made a mistake when you presented someone else's work as your own, it was simply wrong whether it was something in real life or online. What's worse is that you've been warned many times to stop doing things that way and even correct any posts that could be problematic, which can definitely be considered a second chance - and not everyone gets it.

I would personally check 7000 posts if I were you, and it would be enough if you used some free plagiarism checker if you can't already remember which posts were plagiarized and which weren't. It would be even easier if you deleted them all, as LoyceV already mentioned.

The fact is that you were banned for plagiarism, but what's even bigger problem is that you didn't take a second chance when you were given one - now you're actually asking to be forgiven again, and you're unlikely to get the support of forum members in that request. I think now everything is in the hands of admins and global mods.
4809  Economy / Economics / Re: Wheat War I is going to be World War III on: May 21, 2022, 09:35:02 AM
Bruh, what? The EU is the net exporter of food, seriously, where do you get this idea?
Let's assume you have ignored by previous post and the links in it, what does the EU import in such quantities, coffee, bananas, and macadamia nuts?

It seems that I misjudged the situation when it comes to certain products, all because more or less everything is imported in my country - milk, beans, beef and pork, potatoes... Somehow it seems to me that despite the rather large agricultural areas that are poorly cultivated or not cultivated at all, without imports we would be in a rather difficult situation. When a country loses 400 000 inhabitants in 10 years and has an anti-national policy led by former communists and their children who hate the country in which they live, then it is no wonder that we are so dependent on imports.

That's true Putin has managed to unite the whole of Europe better than ever.
The army has become so scared of the warmongers pushing them to dos stupid things that finally, Kremlin has given the green light to Khodarenok to come in prime time on Russian state TV and tell them Russia can't fight another war,  telling again and again, each day things they don't want to hear

It seems to be exactly as you describe, but I wonder if the Russians were not aware that their moves would result in just such a development? Many parallels can be drawn between the war that began in 1991 when Serbia invaded Croatia, occupied 1/3 of the country and killed thousands of innocent civilians - while the siege of Mariupol lasted almost identically to the siege of Vukovar. After all, the Serbs were defeated militarily and politically, although they realized a plan to expand their territory by gaining 49% of the territory of Bosnia and Herzegovina that they want to annex to Serbia.

I think the goal of the war was to destroy Ukraine in terms of infrastructure and economics and to increase the occupied territories in the east - while the attack on Kyiv and northern Ukraine was just a smokescreen and a distraction of Ukrainian forces.
4810  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin has no future as a payments network, says FTX chief on: May 21, 2022, 09:00:50 AM
One good news about the other scam you mentioned, seems like South Korea's authorities are on the move. The original article mentions also something about investigating the way customers were attracted with a high annual interest rate that might get jail time, and in Korea, you can get 40 years for just lying to investors about where you put their money.

Call me skeptical, but when I see that instead of arrests and prison sentences, there is mention of punishment for possible tax evasion when it comes to Kwon - I wonder if this is happening in South Korea or some highly corrupt third world country. The person behind it all says publicly that he enjoys watching companies die, and there is a saying that whoever rejoices in another's misfortune will have an even greater misfortune - I hope he will receive appropriate punishment.
4811  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin has no future as a payments network, says FTX chief on: May 20, 2022, 02:26:12 PM
Does anyone with a little common sense believe that any of these famous people in the cryptocurrency world really believe in Bitcoin? They use it as a base to build various companies through which they will sooner or later try to sell some of their ideas on how there is something better than Bitcoin.

Just look at the list of those who have been shilling that scam from South Korea for months, and have done damage of some say as much as $80 billion - all of them have in common that they believe in only one thing, and that is profit. It means nothing to them that will deceive millions of people, that some may commit suicide and that will kill people's hopes for a better tomorrow.

For those who know who is Mike Novogratz, it will be hard to believe that he did such nonsense - will Sam SOLman tattoo his favorite alt too?

4812  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How many BTC is in circulation? on: May 20, 2022, 01:27:37 PM
I don't understand the whole question.

The question makes sense if one wants to know (at least approximately) how much BTC is available on the market at a given time. Of the total number mined (19+ million), some are currently lost, some are in non-custodial wallets, and some are available for trading. If we take into account that according to available data this number is about 2.5 million BTC, then we can conclude that supply is far greater than demand, and that Bitcoin is not a sought-after commodity despite the limited max supply - which is ultimately reflected on price.

Of course, we should not forget the OTC market, which has always been speculated to be of the order of magnitude as an open market, which would mean that at any given time in one way or another there are millions of BTCs that can be traded.

4814  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Best place to buy stocks / shares as EU citizen? on: May 20, 2022, 10:50:53 AM
Since crypto is so volatile these days and there is not much fun in bear market I want to diversify my investment while waiting for bull market to resume.

It may not be enough for you when the price of Bitcoin changes in 24 hours by 4-5%, but for those who are not too greedy it is quite enough to be satisfied with the profit. After all, stocks aren't something you can easily profit from if you don't know what you're doing. On the other hand, there is nothing wrong with trying other ways to invest, because you may find that you are a real talent for stock trading.

While you're waiting for the new bull market, you'll have plenty of time to try things out - just remember not to invest more than you're willing to lose Wink
4815  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Transferring Electrum wallet to new online computer on: May 20, 2022, 10:26:05 AM
If you are worried about a new computer, you certainly have several options - to scan it with a good AV and preferably with a tool like Malwarebytes. If it turns out there are no threats you can be somewhat sure (though never 100%) that your computer is safe. Another option would be to format the disk and install the OS (if it is Windows) without any pirated versions/cracks.

After that, download Electrum from the official website, and for additional security, it is recommended to verify the file before installation. If you do everything by the rules, I don't see why you wouldn't recover your wallet with a seed on a new computer. Of course, in case you have more than $500 in BTC, it is not recommended to use any hot wallet, whether it is a desktop or mobile version.

4816  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: El Salvador will be the richest country in the world in 8 years? on: May 20, 2022, 10:12:36 AM
If someone assumes this only because their president buys a few hundred BTC from time to time, then that country will not get very rich even if the price of BTC by the end of the decade is ten times higher than today. And everyone seems to be forgetting that politics can change if some new politicians are brought to power in the next presidential/parliamentary elections.

I would put the assumption that the ES could become the richest country in 8 years in the same category as if someone were saying that Switzerland would become the poorest country in the world in the same period - and that doesn't make any sense.
4817  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: give me advice on how to choose a good exchange platform on: May 19, 2022, 03:25:55 PM
@lupa tidur, is there maybe in your country some crypto ATM, or some physical exchange where there is no need for KYC for some smaller amounts? Although this way of buying cryptocurrencies is the most expensive because the fees are 5% +, many use it as an alternative to centralized crypto exchanges.

You can also try the proposed DEX (BISQ or LocalCryptos), and one of the CEX that supposedly does not require KYC ->

TIL that Mike Novogratz was a big backer of TerraUST & Luna.

We know he's not the only one shilling that shitcoins, but it seems to me that he's the only one who will have a lasting memory of a Korean fairy tale called "stablecoins are not stablecoins.".

4819  Other / Meta / Re: Race to 10K Merit club..... on: May 19, 2022, 02:55:41 PM
If I'm lucky and I'm on the forum for at least another 5-6 years, I'll probably reach 10 000 merits - although then there will already be a competition for a 50k club Smiley

However, I use this post to be the first to congratulate myself on a possible achievement - see you in the summer of 2027/28㊗
4820  Economy / Speculation / Re: Trying to identify the bottom.. on: May 19, 2022, 01:41:02 PM
We needed 4 months, to get out of the 3-6k zone, I won't be surprised if we take 4 months or even more to break free from the 20-40k trap, while all the indicators used in this topic point to more decrease in price and possibly 19-23k, timing the exact bottom is just stupid, 2-3 years from now if this turns out to be the bottom, it won't matter if you bought at 20k or 25k, just how it didn't matter buying at 3k or 4k back in 2018.

I don’t have too many doubts in the long run, but I have to admit that all the TAs I’ve seen lately are pretty similar when it comes to a possible bottom. Although for most the loss of another 20-30% at the current price would be a real disappointment, we have already seen this in the past, of course only the numbers were different.

In any case, unless something really big and positive happens, it seems that we will have at least a year and a half (maybe two) in which there will be many more who will be disappointed than those who will take advantage of a new investment opportunity. Although it is necessary to understand ordinary people who were looking for some kind of shelter in Bitcoin but did not reckon that Bitcoin is not just a one-way street.
