We've all just seen the "take everyone's money and disappear without telling anyone" thing go down here too many times, Matthew, that's all.  When you disappeared without making note of it on bitcointalk, and no one bothered to defend you until the last minute (except Phinnaeus, who no one knew if he was joking or not), it started freaking people out.  A quick note that you were going on vaca probably would have avoided all of it.
Hindsight is 20/20. Now that Mihai has the blog on the site up, crap like this won't happen anymore I suppose.
Does it tell us when you're sleeping? What if you have a prolonged stay in the restroom - will the blog be updated to prevent future panics?

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?item=N82E16814121375

They've run since ~May of last year, no problems, have not been mining the entire time, but most of it. All have no problem running ~890mHz core @ stock voltage with mem underclocked. Up-front, I will note it's not possible (AFAIK) to modify card voltage (aside from BIOS mod) without using ASUS SmartDoctor (tried the mod which was supposed to allow MSI AB to function with it, but no luck). If you order two, I'll leave the dummy plug in one. Otherwise, comes with nothing but the card.

I will sell 4... possibly another two I'm using in my mining/gaming/general-use rig (these have much less wear). Edit: Going to sell all six. Make me offers >$100/card. Unless I receive an offer I'm very pleased to accept, I will listen to offers until end of 2/20. PM me the bids or post here. I'll update with current best bids. Payment in BTC preferred, DwollaUSD or MtGox code acceptable.

These cards will be shipped from MI, US. Local pickup would be fine (I'm around Jackson area) if you like. Otherwise, $10 Priority shipping (with tracking #) if domestic, dunno if international.

Here are additional parts I have to sell:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?item=N82E16817371016 (550W 80 PLUS PSU) x 2
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?item=N82E16813157226 (AM2/AM2+/AM3 MoBo) x2 -- MoBos come with 3gHz Athlon II x2s ( http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?item=N82E16819103903 ) and a stick of DDR2 RAM (likely 1gb or 2gb)

Cheers!

CUs do this, too, and it's pretty reasonable. Having normal deposits with incentives and disincentives are supposed to encourage them to work more like a CD -- they can spend more on services & dividends paid to depositors if they actually keep the money in the bank. Predictable markets tend to function much more efficiently. Not much reason to even bother with deposits unless there's a time-frame long enough for banks to profit off arbitrage. Fees like this encourage people to keep their money in the bank. There are almost always less feature-rich accounts you can have if you aren't willing to keep a large amount in to keep the account.

This 5 dollar fee is the bare minimal, it goes up to 7 with an interest baring account and 10 for the next level (not sure what it is).  But something else that gets me is that they still have the "Free Checking" sign out....

It just hurts people like me that can barely make rent at the end of the month and goes without a nice meal every night
Heh, I'll at least agree with you on the dishonest marketing... much like "unlimited bandwidth" ISP-types claim. Might want to check in on other CUs in your area -- many will have a website up with some basic information on fees, minimum balances, etc. Took me a good bit of research to finally settle on where to keep my cash, and any bank/CU which'll treat customers right will post their terms quite clearly. Unsurprisingly, this is quite rare, and I ended up phoning/emailing every bank/CU in the area. There was a lot of garbage out there, and it's unreasonable to expect all consumers to have the patience (and time, determination) to phone up 10+ financial institutions and knowledge to know what to ask their potential financial institutions.... Would be nice to get a consumer watch group (not sure if any legitimate consumer watch groups exist in the US outside of "consumer advocate" jounalists, anymore, after learning what a scam the BBB is) which demands banks/CUs fill out a form clearly outlining their fees/rates/terms. If the bank/CU fails to fill the form out, they simply aren't listed on the site and lose that important advertising opportunity. Site would allow consumers to compare banks against each other using standard information, allow ratings/comments from consumers, and allow consumers to search by radius around their location. Seems like a great time for it given the OWS protests.

There's already a decent service like that for credit cards (great if you have good credit & are looking for cash-back & "free debt" opportunities), but there's much less information necessary.

Save that info to a notepad. This thread should be removed.
4826  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Newbie info DID NOT help me on: February 14, 2012, 01:08:30 AM
It's generic because there are so many different ways to go about it... Dwolla's by far the cheapest for US users (should only be charged $.25 total for the transfers between your bank and Gox).

[First 6 steps optional. If you already have a Paypal account, some people may be willing to sell you Bitcoins at a premium for USD in Paypal. Check out the Currency Exchange subforum @ https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=53.0 -- it's quite possible nobody will be willing to sell to you because PayPal is ill-suited for such a transaction.]

1) Open a Dwolla account. Gox doesn't handle bank->GoxAccount except for expensive wire transfers. https://www.dwolla.com
2) Tether bank account to Dwolla (very similar to Paypal) @ https://www.dwolla.com/in/accounts.aspx?a=add
3) Initiate ACH transfer from bank to Dwolla @ https://www.dwolla.com/deposit
4) Wait ~3-5 business days for transfer to clear.
5) Goto MtGox, transfer funds from Dwolla to Gox account @ https://mtgox.com/trade/funding-options (FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS!)
6) Buy bitcoins. I'll assume you're ignorant, not retarded, and can figure this out yourself.
7) If you're buying on a Tor site, deposit funds into your Tor site Bitcoin wallet by using https://mtgox.com/trade/funding-options -- use the BTC address assigned to you by the Tor site.

Quote
The reports of Bitcoin Magazine death are greatly exaggerated.

The first issue is being prepared for print. There were a few customers who were upset about issue they have subscribed for still not being delivered. Just in case there are some doubts please allow me to clarify this. This is the first issue of magazine, we do not have it in stock just yet, but as soon as it is printed it will be shipped to subscribers.

The first issue was initially referred as February issue, it was for a number of reasons now renamed into March issue. However, we do expect it to be printed and shipped sometime during February.

Our Editor in Chief, Matthew N. Wright is currently not available because he is travelling. This travel at least to some degree related to Bitcoin Magazine matters. We expect Matt to return soon and he then surely will respond to all the correspondence addressed to him.

It seems that bittalk.tv and bitcoinmagazine.net websites are down. This is most likely due to issues with some really bad VPS it was on. Unfortunately, neither DNS nor relevant VPS are being controlled by me and there is not much I can do about this. Meanwhile we are preparing official http://bitcoinmagazine.co.uk for launch, it will be hosted and looked after by me, so hopefully it will be a bit more stable.

A UK based company was registered to run BitcoinMagazine, we have secured office premises and we are in process of setting up banking and payment processing facilities. These matters do take time, so please bear with us, your patience and understanding is very much appreciated. Bitcoin Magazine will improve over time.

So a fellow in purple shades is giving us an ironic quote from Mark Twain (ironic because he's supposed to be assuring us the magazine is still alive when Mark Twain has died since uttering that sentence) on a largely unused forum. Scandal! Coverup! Financial Armageddon! Damn, I'm bored.

Really was just a dream. Woke up from it in middle of night and decided to write it foggy-headed in case I was interested in remembering it the next day.

And now, I assume the stampede of traffic is preventing website access, meaning Bitscalper admin could probably make off with everything left, anyway - not that withdrawals usually work... Hope nobody had a substantial amount left there. :x

ETA: was able to get through to site. Extremely sluggish, but can still get to account page. Small withdrawal request still "processing" from 2/9. ETA2: Wow, it was actually processed. Huh.
4834  Economy / Speculation / Re: The Shuffle has begun on: February 13, 2012, 03:39:34 AM
It'll go down as long as bitcoinica has an asterix on the buy. Somebody wants all your leverage.

Yes, this is what Im thinking too, having the hand tighten around bitcoinica is key...  Wink

We the need the rocky theme playing right now... thats quite a narrow wall..  interesting..

Yeah, if I had the kind of buying power this person had it's exactly what I'd be doing.

Bitcoinica => Make huge bet on where the market is going
MtGox => MAKE THE MARKET GO WHERE YOU WANT
MtGox => Hold wall as close as possible because of bitcoinica's stupid algorithms
Bitcoinica => Cash out and laugh your ass off
MtGox => release hold while still laughing your ass off.

If I had the money I would be doing this instead of posting about it. Anyone who uses bitcoinica is playing a game they cannot win.

...but I just won it using actual information. Not blaming manipulators, counting formulas or following newsletters. I just read Twitter and forum posts. I listened to the actual people buying and selling the stuff.

How is this forum admin/mod team NOT a government?

We use their property, they have rules. They enforce those rules by denying privileges. They grant you a right to speech, until they take it away - a right to privacy, until they take it away... All which differentiates them from any national government is just that they don't force people to join.

With that in mind, I pledge .01BTC to the forum if they do not ban CH/RS. Yes, that is an explicit bribe. By not banning CH/RS, forum moderation team tacitly accepts this bribe.  Shocked  Roll Eyes  Tongue

4838  Economy / Speculation / Re: Expect Decline: Silkroad suffering turmoil. Paxum lowers short-term confidence. on: February 12, 2012, 09:50:23 PM
Lol.... Is that kujoking/westcoastconnect/gurg2.0 who started that thread? The reason he claims he can't pay the loans he admitted to scamming out of lenders is because he's waiting for SR withdrawal. Wonder if SR admin knows of the situation and decided to freeze his BTC for a while to repay his kindness.

4840  Economy / Speculation / Re: paxum and the price on: February 12, 2012, 09:29:42 PM
Wouldn't it encourage Paxum users to stay in Bitcoin as much as it would encourage them to sell their BTC, since users must use a less preferable medium for both BTC sales and purchases involving a bank?

I asked the MtGox CEO, and he said Paxum is mainly used for withdrawals, not deposits.

So it should be affecting prices up, not down, if at all.
Oh.
