4841  Other / Off-topic / Re: List of Best Bitcoin Videos (submit) on: July 18, 2012, 03:30:35 AM
Please inform me if this has been done before.

I'll maintain this thread by listing and linking the most informative videos that describe Bitcoin as well as those which put it in a good light.

I'll start with the most recent, of which I think you'll agree is a damn good one.

Quote provided below is in reference to the Trace Mayer video.

http://www.FinancialSurvivalNetwork.com presents

We literally bumped into Trace Mayer of www.HowToVanish.com and www.RunToGold.com. He made it to Vegas for Freedom Fest. We discussed a very interesting new phenomena that may possibly become the new gold standard of currencies, BitCoin. This is an open source currency that is extremely flexible, resistant to inflation and completely anonymous. It is a store of wealth and a medium of exchange and its popularity appears to be rapidly increasing. We had heard of it before, but dismissed it as a noble effort to help people escape the tyranny of central banks. But it has continued on and increased in value from 5 cents per BitCoin to $7.70 in just a few short years. And its acceptance appears to be increasing as well. It's spreading worldwide, with more and more merchants accepting it as payment, at a variety of locations. We're going to investigate the BitCoin phenomena further and report back.

Go to http://www.FinancialSurvivalNetwork.com for the latest info on the economy and precious metals markets.

I don't think this awesome thread belongs in the Off-Topic section.  Wink
It should go to Bitcoin Discussion or even Press (maybe a sticky on top?).

IIRC this kind haven't been done yet.
4842  Economy / Speculation / Re: Pirate Manipulation behind the recent price spike? on: July 18, 2012, 02:15:33 AM
marlath explains:

The bid wall dropped and the dump started at exactly 2:06:18 EST.
He posted that 'good night' message at 2:06:28 EST. (http://pastebin.com/PthgrzDS)
He had a full ten seconds to paste that message.
This is how this pirate has conned everyone into thinking he is anything but BS. He has a websocket client that isn't lagged like the popular html5 ones are, and simply waits for the action on that to start and then announces that he caused it. Everyone using some browser based feed doesn't see the drop until after he saw it and announced it hoping people wouldn't notice that his announcement comes long after the actual move he claims credit for.
This.

Remember this guys:
Perhaps we should add this general rule to the bitcoin community safety guidelines:

If some guy jumps ups and down, waving his hands frenetically and claims he's THE ONE, don't give him your bitcoins!! Smiley
4843  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How Many Bitcoin Clients are there? on: July 18, 2012, 01:53:37 AM
Connected nodes is a poor measure of users, as several sites like instawallet, blockchain.info, mtgox etc. have hundreds or thousands of users.

+1. I don't connect my client usually, and I only do it like once a week. I'm sure there's other people like me too.

The lower the better. I usually run mine at 75, but that's just me.

Deposits are not automatic.
PayB.tc manually adds it to your account.
Good news is that he starts the interest from the time he gets the BTC.

Withdraws are also not automatic.

Interest payments are also not automatic.   That is, he must approve it, and then everyone is paid seemingly at the same time.

You can deposit as much as you want.  I believe you should only give him a head up if you are depositing over 10000BTC.  Probably not an issue for most of us.

You don't need to make a posting each time you make a deposit.  It would probably flood the Forum post.  I have generally just sent a PM, although that is not necessary either.  Remember, the deposit address he gives you is for you alone.  So, he will know it was from you.
Deposits are automatic. It's added to your ledger once there is a single confirm in the blockchain. He uses the Blockhain.info API to automatically update your balance.

I don't usually say this or do this, but...

OP, have you paid back your loans on Bitcoin-OTC yet?

A) None of your business
B) I am not willing to discuss it

Nah, I don't think so. You've 'deleted' your wallet.dat anyway.
4849  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: www.realgg.nl is a SCAM SITE on: July 17, 2012, 04:32:36 PM
I'm not sure how does the accusation of me = gensen comes about. But I am not him.

Proof of him sending me BTC, taken from my mobile so there is no way I can edit it.

Admins/Mods should be able to check our IPs but skeptical people will start thinking about VPN...

@John,
Yes, we can find reputable BTC exchanger but everyone starts from small... So we should give chance to this guy.

To err is human, to forgive is divine.

EP
As I've stated above, I don't really trust both sides of the story personally - either the scammer accusations or the vouches. This site does not have the usual characteristics of a scam site, but I would however use a more reputable exchanger to save the headaches incurred as there is money at stake.

Just my BTC0.2, don't take it personally.  Wink

Do you have a link?
Hello!!!

Finally we can start with the prealpha phase of our project... the link to our website is http://www.bitcoinerr.com

Please report all suggestions and  bugs you may find.

Keep in touch! Smiley

WARNING, READ THIS VERY CAREFULLY: You are accepting to start using an massively-untested service, so strange things may happen. We have checked things thousands of times, but there may be errors in our script. Problems, including bitcoin losses, can appear. The user may understand it. Because of this, we will reward all our betatesters (first 100) by keeping theese low rates for them and forever and we will be buying 20 0.5btc jobs (the most useful for us).

Whitelisted. Please post at Project Development/Services subforum for more exposure, best of luck with your new site!

Whitelisted as your time requirements are fulfilled anyway. Ask away at the Hardware subforum for more exposure.

4854  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why bitcoin is in big trouble and is ultimately doomed! on: July 17, 2012, 03:36:09 PM
Oh lol, that was an accident, im not really trying to help anyone or make anyone any money, and, if I had my choice, I would make the price crash to 0.001. Even still, I am sure this will happen eventually...

Im tired of this... Watch out! Bitcoin, litecoin, namecoin are all doomed!
The world is doomed on 2012 anyway. Why don't you delete your forum account and jump off the building, just to make this fast?
4855  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: www.realgg.nl is a SCAM SITE on: July 17, 2012, 03:32:31 PM
ElitePork = gensen ??
To put it frankly, I don't trust both sides of this story. I'd much rather stay with another reputable Bitcoin exchanger, or simply do this at Bitcoin-OTC just to stay out of this.
4856  Other / Off-topic / Re: Buy $1300 in bitcoin now or buy a BitForce Single ‘SC’  40 GH/s  -  in October? on: July 17, 2012, 03:20:42 PM
I've not actually got that much cash now but I would like to get into mining. Does anyone know how much power the new BitForce Single ‘SC’  are goin to use?

Also I you had $1300 would you
Buy $1300 in bitcoin now? or buy a BitForce Single ‘SC’  40 GH/s  -  in October?
Buy $1300 in bitcoin now. I missed the sub-7 prices yesterday and I'm regretting it now.
You really expect BitForce to release their stuff on October? I'll be really amazed if they do release it in this year, with 70%+ of their stated efficiency.
4857  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: Bitcoinary.com - The new smart way to buy and sell Bitcoins. on: July 17, 2012, 12:55:21 PM
In the process of translating this to Simplified Chinese. By golly, this is sure a long job! Cheesy
Anyone wanna help too?

Wow, this is great thanks.
Just to notify you that I'm still on this - I'm halfway through the list. Got bogged down for a few excursions plus the flu.

Thanks John, do you want me to test what you have so far ?
I'm on my laptop atm - I'll pass what I've done so far to you tomorrow to see if it works without a hitch.
One question:
Which kind of quotation marks should I use? I see from the previous examples that a mix of (') and (") is accepted, am I right? I'm sticking to the latter in my translations, though.
4858  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Help me... I'm a noob and I don't know how to start with LinuxCoin on: July 17, 2012, 12:51:27 PM
All this looks even harder on windows...so I decided to use LinuxCoin.

When I try to start GUIMiner I always get this message(just like on Windows):

Code:
No openCL devices were found.
If you only want to mine using CPU or CUDA, you can ignore this message. If you want to mine on ATI graphics cards, you may need to install the ATI Stream SDK, or your GPU may not support OpenCL.

So then I downloaded this: http[Suspicious link removed]cutables/atistream-1.4.0_beta-lnx64.tar.gzip

When I extract it there are two .run files. I executed them both and agreed with the licence (or something). So both were successfully installed I guess...

The problem is when I run GUIMiner again I get the same message... So I guess GUIMiner does not recognize that ATI Stream SDK is installed (or is it?).

OK there's also an option to ignore this message and just try to mine with the CPU unit. But that also doesn't work. The error message is: pyopencl.LogicError: clGetPlatformIDs failed> platform not found khr

This is just another universe for me... What can I do???

You forgot the million-dollar question: What's your graphics card?

It is the most powerful distributed computing network now.
