4901  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2023 NBA Season on: October 27, 2022, 04:30:55 AM
Lakers starting the season by losing 4 straight. Not looking good for them as they seem to be in shambles. The nuggets on the other hand looked great even without MPJ. Murray threw down a couple of highlight dunks and Jokic put on a passing display showing why he’s the NBA MVP two years in a row.

Giannis also put on a show as they beat the Nets. At one point Kyrie dishes the ball to Simmons and yelled, “Shoot it Ben!” Simmons didn’t even look at the hoop…
4902  Economy / Speculation / Re: What’s going to make Bitcoin turn from a downward to an upward trend? on: October 27, 2022, 04:10:16 AM
I can think of three things that would propel the price of Bitcoin upwards. Mostly it’s the removal of doubt and time though. The biggest doubt hanging over the market being the mtgox coins. Once those are distributed a huge weight will be lifted from the price. An ETF approval would also send Bitcoin skyward. Finally, besides increased adoption, the block reward halving will also tip the supply/demand towards the bulls.
4903  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Jake Paul VS Anderson Silva October 29th on: October 27, 2022, 01:16:38 AM
Anderson Silva had to walk back comments he made today in an interview when he said his sparring partner had knocked him out twice in last Friday’s sparring session. He now says that he misspoke because English is not his native language. Apparently there were some concerned individuals that were considering having Silva pull out of the fight. True or not, it sounds like Silva has been getting his ass kicked by his sparring partner. Good news for Jake Paul fans I guess. I just hope when all is said and done that Silva is happy and healthy.

This fight isn't technically licensed pro boxing is it? I'm assuming that the rules for exhibition stuff like this versus official pro-boxing are different in terms of concussion protocol stuff.  If he really did get knocked out twice by his sparing partner, one, he probably shouldn't be fighting period, and two..that's some scary concussion stuff to have to worry about.  However I guess at the end of the day all these guys know they are taking huge risk for having mush for brains in their latter years.

I think this is a professionally licensed fight. Jake Paul’s fights have all been professional fights I believe. I think he’s like 4-0 now or something. That’s probably why Silvia’s comments created a stir on the week of the fight. The language barrier explanation seemed good enough to make everyone happy. I agree though, if Silva has been getting knocked out then he shouldn’t be fighting at all, even if this is his final and biggest payday.
4904  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: NBA 2020-2021 betting on: October 27, 2022, 01:13:03 AM
I was so unlucky last night, all my bets loss.
I hope I win tonight.

My pick for tonight.

Denver Nuggets(-4,5) vs Los Angeles Lakers = Denver Nuggets Win 1,79 Odds

Denver Nuggets Injuries;
Michael Porter Jr. won't play tonight.
Jeff Green / Game Time Decision
Collin Gillespie won't play tonight.

Los Angeles Lakers Injuries;
Russell Westbrook won't play tonight.
LeBron James / Game Time Decision
Anthony Davis / Game Time Decision
Cole Swider won't play tonight.
Thomas Bryant won't play tonight.
Dennis Schroder won't play tonight.

Good luck to all.

I think you’ve got a good bet on this one. The Lakers definitely want a win and if MPJ isn’t playing tonight that will give them a chance. However, Murray is playing tonight and he hasn’t gotten a chance to play on national TV in a long time. I wouldn’t be surprised if he tries to have a huge night. If AD isn’t playing a ton of minutes Jokic should be able to carve up the Lakers defense too. I think the Nuggets will probably get the W and cover the spread.

4906  Economy / Gambling / Re: US players, where are you playing now? on: October 26, 2022, 09:14:25 PM
Stake recently launched Stake.us for Americans to have fun on the platform. I personally also occasionally gamble using draft kings, which recently became legal in my state. I think we’re now seeing gambling become more legal, while at the same time there is cracking down on questionable gambling houses. This is ultimately a good thing, but an ever changing landscape can be difficult for gamblers in the US as what sorts of bets we can make seems to be changing by the quarter.
4907  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: October 26, 2022, 09:11:57 PM
With over half a billion dollars in short liquidations over the last 48 hours it’s feeling like the bears are getting rekt. I think a lot of people threw in the towel at $20K and then went short to try and recover losses, leading them like pigs to the slaughter. I’m not sure how much longer people will be shorting this market, but it feels like the next swing might be down from here to double slaughter those who are now leveraged long. I’ve been saying that for a while though and we keep going up, so maybe the bears have more pain ahead. I’m watching anxiously to see what happens.
4908  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: I don't get any reward from the Mt. Gox Rehabilitation Trustee letter 10/07/2022 on: October 26, 2022, 07:43:18 PM
What really grinds my gears about this is that they based the rewards on the *final state of the database* (and even that is an assertion), rather than the moment MTGOX locked withdrawals.

Automated trading algorithms kept executing during the insanity as the price rapidly debased itself and plenty of people were caught out on the fiat side when they arbitrarily shut down rather than have their losses recorded in Bitcoins.

Having $100 instead of 4 Bitcoins in the database: ouch!

Yeah, there was a lot of questionable things that happened at the end. I made the mistake of buying 5 BTC from someone because I had confidence that mtgox wasn’t being run by incompetent idiots. The joke was on me. Not only did I lose the BTC I paid, but they reversed the credit before the final database… So instead of 5 BTC I ended up with nothing. I should have just sold what I had on the exchange as my 15 BTC will probably be closer to 2 BTC when all is said and done with the payouts.
4909  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 🥊 The UFC Info and Prediction Thread on: October 26, 2022, 06:09:55 PM
Jon Jones just tweeted that he's preparing to fight stipe in December: https://twitter.com/JonnyBones/status/1584987131524812801

I'll believe that when I see it. I hope he fights this year though so they can set up a match between him and Ngannou. Both will need tune up fights for that though.

Looks like Khamzat Chimaev v Colby Covington is in the works for UFC 285 as well and the winner gets a title shot. I think that will be a good match up. Colby will give him a good match up but Chimaev is too good right now.

Am I the only guy who's starting to think Chimaev vs Covington could end up just like Makhachev vs Oliveira?  I'm pretty sure lots of the fans and betting degens would end up split in the picks with some going back and forth between Chim and Covington.  Grin  And in the end of it all Chin lined at something like a 1.70 favorite before the fight then looking like a 1.35 favorite after the match.  Another one of those things that says 'what did everybody expect'.

Here's the Multi Master guys...

UFC Fight Night 213 - Multi Master Challenge
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5418307.0

Most probably Khamzat still. Makhachev really showed great skills in taking down Oliveira, not everyone can methodically grab the back of the neck of Oliveira to control him.  Khamzat will learn that too in time to fight Covington.  Going against what everybody expect will just make me lose again.

Ngannou vs Jones is really gonna be a big event.  This I think is where degens split but yes we need to see an updated info of how fit they are so a tune up for both will do.

I’ve never been a big fan of Covington and am always surprised when he wins. He wins a lot though so what do I know. I would agree that Khamzat will beat Covington but I’m glad he’s getting a real opponent. The last few opponents Khamzat fought he was basically tossing them around like rag dolls. He deserves a title fight. Hopefully Covington will be able to make it a fight, or even put down the new heel of the UFC.
4910  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: New fiasco Nvidia GeForce RTX 4090 on: October 26, 2022, 05:53:42 PM
This is pretty crazy. It is widespread or just from one brand? This seems a little unbelievable for a company as established as Nvidia. Especially when they know that heat is a big issue with this product. I haven’t seen a whole lot of complaints about these yet, but I also didn’t know they were getting into people’s hands already. What is your advice? Holding off on purchasing for now?
4911  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What Point Do You Start Accepting Bitcoin as a Payment Option For Your Business? on: October 26, 2022, 05:45:42 PM
One of the first things I did once I learned of Bitcoin was to start accepting it in my businesses. I believe the day I discovered Bitcoin I was mining it before I went to sleep and within a couple of weeks (maybe months) I was integrating it into my business. When BitPay came around and made things easier I was one of the first to start using it on multiple sites I ran. It didn’t take long for the Bitcoin I was holding to start increasing in value faster than my businesses were making money…
4912  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Why do people withdraw their generosity during crisis? on: October 26, 2022, 05:42:29 PM
I don’t think everyone withdraws generosity during times of crisis. I know I’ve been making an extra effort to drop a few dollars in the hands of people I see standing around these days. Personally, I think that donating to those in need is a huge part of the system that is largely neglected by most people, which is why organized charities are a thing. Make sure if you’re able to help out others in need. It will make you feel a lot better than eating out or spending extra money on most of the useless things people spend their money on.
4913  Economy / Speculation / Re: So are bond traders right… or is this time different? on: October 26, 2022, 05:40:07 PM
Right now we are at a difficult level.

Stocks are rallying. Bonds are selling off.

So either the bond traders are right and this is nothing but a bounce and we will head lower after the midterms. Or the equity traders are right and we bottomed and the bond traders are wrong.

In my experience you should pay attention to what the bond markets are doing.

I think they are both right to a point. Bonds haven’t been keeping up with inflation so investors have mostly stripped them from their portfolios while stocks are expected to rise with inflation acting as a rising tide lifting all boats. The big difference between now and 2008 is that we’re being held up by massive inflation that isn’t just sustained to homes and gas this time. In fact, home prices have been falling recently, showing just how different it is this time.
4914  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: October 26, 2022, 05:37:57 PM
I’m still surprised at the strength we’re seeing in the market. I was expecting to end the month below $17K and here we are about to break $21K while Bitcoin has shown considerable strength compared to other assets. It seems that for the first time Bitcoin is bucking the trend and standing out as a safe haven currency. Albeit to a point, but this will no doubt be a positive for future investors who would have expected this speculative asset to be one of the worst performing in times of doubt.
4915  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2023 NBA Season on: October 26, 2022, 05:35:56 PM
Looks like we get to see the Nets and the Lakers tonight on ESPN. The Nets are starting it off first facing off against the Bucks, who are still undefeated as of now. The Los Angeles Lakers are playing the Nuggets in the late night game. The Lakers are still looking for their first win and the Nuggets have been looking good lately now the MPJ is back. LeBron and company have their work cut out for them on national TV if they want to escape their winless season tonight.
4916  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: I made a mistake shorting BTC at 17k on: October 26, 2022, 05:12:47 AM
It could still go lower if you could stay solvent long enough. It seems like you’re viewing things in too short of a period. Bitcoin is down more than 2/3s since the all time high. That’s not when you want to short. The best bears are the ones shorting as we come off all time highs. The risk reward points to you wanting to be long here. When people are screaming Lambo and you hear stories of peopling making millions in a day, that’s when you want to start going short.
4917  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2023 NBA Season on: October 26, 2022, 04:13:26 AM
Anyone else watching this Suns golden state game.  For game 4 of the year its super chippy.  Klay and Booker were talking shit all quarter to each other and klay finally got chucked.  I know it's insanely too early but if this is what it's gonna be lime I need to see a 7 game series with these teams.

I am. Klay was having an off night and ended with 2 points. Booker seems like he likes to rub it in whenever that sort of thing happens. I can’t imagine the Suns are going to enjoy their next meeting. It looks like Golden State might be throwing in the towel now. I wouldn’t be surprised if they met up in the playoffs.

No Zion and no Ingram but the Pelicans still pulled out a win against the Mavericks. The Pelicans are going to be good…
4918  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why is deflation considered to be an admirable feature of Bitcoin? on: October 25, 2022, 04:47:21 AM
I don’t believe Bitcoin can be classified as an inflationary currency. This is because we know how many exist and none can ever be made beyond that limit of what can be mined. That can be interpreted however you’d like, but in the end it is this 21M limit that gives Bitcoin it’s value proposal. No entity being able to inflate the units gives Bitcoin a unique store of value argument that has so far seemed popular enough to propel the market cap into the trillions at one point and is still very much in a growth pattern.
4919  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2023 NBA Season on: October 25, 2022, 04:40:22 AM
That was a rough landing there but JC was really get that block from behind way too clean. Well, can't say it was just a lucky thing but who knows? JC has more minutes now compared the last season and I think it befits on him. For Zion, I think his minutes will be restricted considering his last game with Jazz is somewhat worrisome.
That was an incredible block made by JC and unlucky for Zion his landing would probably have hurt him a lot. Too bad again for Zion, he's really prone to injury.
He's got that hip injury that would make his worth low again and not just bad for him but also for the team. The team has waited for him for this season and very likely that he may be in the same situation of waiting again. A lot of money invested on him but if he's getting injury and prone to it, his value will be lower after his contract and much likely that only few teams would take him or worse, he'll be waived.

There is a zero percent chance that Zion gets waived. This injury was due to a hard foul that he had no control of and it was a bad landing. Meaning he’s probably in some pain and will have a hell of a bruise but he’ll be as good as new in a week. A shame the Pelicans have a nationally televised game tomorrow on TNT. I know Zion would’ve wanted to go crazy on TV to let everyone know he’s back. Maybe he’ll play through the pain but I doubt the Pelican staff will take any chances.
4920  Other / Politics & Society / Re: AN END TO ELON'S GENEROSITY on: October 24, 2022, 08:02:00 PM
Pretty crazy that the US government hates Elon so much that they wouldn’t subsidize Starlink for Ukraine. This just makes Elon look better in my opinion, as he was the bigger man even while Ukrainian politicians call him names and our own government won’t even mention his company’s name. I’m glad Elon is on the side of common sense. Seeing people hate on him really shows that it doesn’t matter how awesome and successful you are. Someone will always complain.
I think it is more the Biden administration and mainstream democrats that hate Musk.

Musk is very pro-freedom, and authoritarians do not like that. His buying Twitter, and promising to make it more transparent and more free-speech-focused isn't helping his cause.

Space X is not a charity, it is a for-profit business. With all the billions of dollars worth of military equipment going to Ukraine, paid for the US taxpayer, it is not unreasonable to expect the US government to help pay the bill for Starlink. They are paying for everything else.

I agree that SpaceX isn't a charity and that Elon doesn't owe Ukraine anything.  It just goes to show that he's the bigger person when it comes to Elon and the US Government and that Elon is willing to dip into his pocket (and those of his investors I guess) to pay the $20,000,000 per month bill that servicing Ukraine is currently costing.  I'm sure at some point the DoD will pony up something so that they can say the helped pay the bill, but Elon has said he doesn't even care anymore.  He's fine paying the $20,000,000 per month to keep Ukraine connected to the internet during these turbulent times.
