Hola,

got my unit yesterday, customs was 220 euros something (I paid DHL to handel it).

That is amazing unit! Thank you Avalon team! Can't wait to order 4th module Smiley

Can you say if it was with or without PSU and Country of delivery? Just thinking about changing my order and remove PSU, but I have the impressione that in Europe there is no much trouble in customs with PSUs...
4903  Economy / Goods / Re: [WTS] Avalon ASIC Batch 2 on: March 27, 2013, 11:13:57 AM
Interested, I bid $6000 for a Batch 2, I'm aware you have higher bids..
If the bidders "disappear" feel free to contact me..

Who was chosen to provide escrow..?
Sure Smiley
This is how I would like to structure the escrow.
Graet (generally respectable and acceptable escrow is also okay, but I like graet ^^), holds the BTC/USD until I can prove that Yifu has transfered the shipping of the unit to the address of the buyer. This will be by skype message or email.
//DeaDTerra

If you read Avalon's FAQ, they forbid any change in the addresses. They say textually:

Quote
No Address Change - Unless it is a special case no address change will be allowed, please allocate time correctly to handle the delivery of these units, There has been too many people attempting to sell these units and changing their shipping address. You can choose what to do with them after you receive them, but whilst they are still in our hands they will go to the address the order was originally intended for.

EDIT: sorry, I did not read your post about your oder being in the "old" system. Good luck with your transaction.

I kind of believe in the good in people^^ I placed the small order for one Jalapeno. I really hope everything works fine. I had a bad feeling from the beginning even before I bought it and still have it. I´m just saying: IF they are just playing with our money and won´t give us anything they are still being observed by institutions that check the security of a company. Somehow they are still under federal regulations. They´re not the Mafia for Gods sake Cheesy

Well, good faith or not, their numbers don't add up. +30.000 orders in the backlog (multi-units orders, most likely), an announced capacity of delivering 10.000 units per order, and they're still saying an order placed today will be shipped in June? They are saying this since January, and it's April. And still taking in preorders like it's Christmas.

Come on...
4905  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Group Buy] Avalon ASIC Batch 3 [CLOSED- Seven 4 module Avalons ordered] on: March 27, 2013, 09:32:21 AM
FINALLY out of newbie exile...

Australia is 230VAC single phase, same as here. Europe is 240V. 63A is the standard pole fuse on a domestic supply here in New Zealand and probably most 220V-240V countries. Loosely speaking, this gives most customers 15kVA of supply in ideal circumstances. In fact, even if you have a 63A pole fuse, your switchboard fuse is likely to be 40A to grade properly with the pole fuse. This give a practical upper limit of 9.6kVA

Electricity supply availability is a concern, depending on the actual fusing circuit breakers, CoinHoarder has. I'm assuming each rig is around 800W = 5600W or 5.6kVA, assuming unity power factor. If CoinHoarder's house is limited to 9.6kVA, boiling the kettle when the light are on will pop the fuse.

More of a concern, though, is dirty power. Yep, I deal with power quality investigations on a regular basis. In short, if a customer's appliance blows up, we (network company) have no evidence that the fault was caused by our network. In actual fact, it probably was but we have to tell the customer to make an insurance claim on the appliance (or "tough luck"). Advanced electronic logging meters will change all that in the near future. Meanwhile, say a voltage spike fries our mining rigs: Even if CH proves it was a network fault, CH can't make an effective warranty or insurance claim. It'd be at least a month or more before the rig(s) are assessed, new rigs built, tested, shipped and commissioned.

I think the idea of co-location was mentioned earlier. I had a quick look at facilities in the states offering 1/4 of a rack for $400/month. That's a pittance for round-the-clock care, clean power, physical security, gobs of bandwidth and backup generators. CH can still get his admin premium. I just want to mitigate risk where feasible to do so.

I guess this is a conversation we'll have over the next month or so before the rigs arrive. Looking forward to making an actual contribution to the network, instead of just speculating.

Sam.

Congrats to all for the amazing community effort. When markets seems to cut out small-time players, community's answer is organization and mutual support.

I organized my own buy group for spaniards, and we successfully ordered what I'm guessing will be the first ASIC machine running in our city.

GREAT!
4906  Local / Español (Spanish) / Re: (OBJETIVO CONSEGUIDO) - Asociarse para AVALON ASICs (batch #3) - MADRID on: March 27, 2013, 09:07:52 AM
Hola.

4907  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: [WTS] Avalon ASIC Batch #2 Income Sharing on: March 27, 2013, 08:45:47 AM

You forgot to change the difficulty.

I got this difficulty from https://blockchain.info/stats.  Should I use a different one?

Yeah. Make difficulty at least x2 (12,695,826). And please, in the USD cost of the hardware insert the price you are willing your investors to pay (250BTC, which at the current exchange rate is almost 20k). The details you should consider:

  • Difficulty: at least x2 (12,695,826)
  • Hashrate: make it 60,000, as you won't get 24/7 uptime
  • Electricity rate: use your own ($0.08)
  • Power consumption: 620w
  • Time frame: as you wish (3 months in this example)
  • Cost of mining hardware (USD): multiply 250BTC x current USD exchange rate = $19,767.5
  • Profitability decline per year: I would suggest to insert 0.3 or lower (difficulty will raise fast. For my own calculations I usually use 0.1)

With that reasonable parameters your investors would be looking at ROI in 124 days. Probably more if difficulty goes x10 by the end of the year.

I think that you'r big mistake was:

- considering that the difficulty will be the same
- more important: including in the "cost of mining hardware" what it costed to YOU, not what it will cost to your investor (which is the point, don't you think?)
4908  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: BitSyncom: Is it possible to make changes to an order (yes/no PSU, # of modules) on: March 27, 2013, 08:34:10 AM
Guys, commons sense dictates that for this matter we should be using tickets. There's still time till the units will be shipped, just let's try to use appropiate channels for communications.
why not both? Cheesy

Because it is not an urgent matter, and you're writing to the direct email of one of the very few people that are running this operation, making him to loose time reading/processing a silly and non-urgent request that can be solved using the appropiate channel: tickets.
4909  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: MtGox security: Yubikey vs Google Authenticator on: March 27, 2013, 08:32:32 AM
I've been awarded with a free Yubikey at MtGox. I had already set up a Google Authenticator, and now I have a doubt:

Which solution you like better? Yubikey or GA?

I see two different pros and cons:

  • Yubikey looks more secure, as I'm sure that smartphone malware targeting Google Authenticator (among other things) is on his way
  • On the other side, Google Authenticator seems easier to backup. For MtGox specifically, you just have to print the QR code at set-up, and your set. What about Yubikey? What happens if you loose it/break the key? I will have it in my keyring... And that's a place where is getting a lot of "action" (bouncing around with coins, keys, etc.)

Opinions?

You should have both setup. Both methods are two factor-authentication. even if both of those methods are compromised, you still have your regular user/pass as a security feature. Also, why would you keep your key on a keychain with other keys, coins, etc? your yubikey belongs to a safe place in your house and you should use it as a secondary method (if you have google authenticator enabled)
At least that's my setup.
I hope it helps.

Thanks for the info. Si if I set up both (GA and Yubikey), I will just need ONE of them to withdraw (for example) - is it correct?

That would be cool, because it would be like a sort of "backup" of the 2FA
4910  Local / Español (Spanish) / Re: (OBJETIVO CONSEGUIDO) - Asociarse para AVALON ASICs (batch #3) - MADRID on: March 27, 2013, 08:30:21 AM

4911  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Butterflylabs Huge SCAM on: March 27, 2013, 08:01:15 AM
I was pretty excited about getting a BFL mining rig but it looks like I can't even take that gamble now since the queue is so big!

How big do you think the queue is?  I personally think it's worth the price; if a person can do afford it.  But I wasn't aware there is a queue report out there?  I haven't see it yet.  Mind pointing me in the right direction?  If I find it I'll edit this post.  thx.

There is a backlog queue of at least 30.000 orders. They say that once they start to ship they will be shipping 10.000 units per month. Even if that it's true (I doubt it), and considering that many orders are composed by more than 1 unit, I wouldn't count on getting an order placed today before the end of 2013.

And please consider also that it's quite possible that no one will receive NOTHING at all. Everything looks very scammy at the moment with BFL.

4912  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: http://www.bitcoinavalon.com Waiting official confirmation !!! on: March 27, 2013, 12:05:16 AM
I lol'd.

1.I guess you reach sucess when people hate on your product on this forum all day talking about how ROI isn't possible then proceed to buy batch #3 units.
2. people make sites like yours to scam others.

The machine is quite an investment, this is true. Avalon is the only success in ASICs market, this is a fact.
4913  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: [WTS] Avalon ASIC Batch #2 Income Sharing on: March 27, 2013, 12:02:44 AM
There are various estimates of the bitcoin based daily income for the Avalon.  I think the consensus is between BTC 3 & BTC 7.

This is bitcoin, bitcoin is about math. There is no consensus and there is no BTC7. RIGHT NOW, a 3 module avalon should make 4.9 per day. After batch 2 ships, it will be 3.5 a day, after batch 3 2.2 a day. This is assuming nobody else gets anything else on the network. batch 1 of BFL and stage 2 of ASICminer will knock it down to about 1.22 per day.

I'm not here to step on your toes, just trying to keep an honest miner honest.

jgarzik reported BTC 7.1 from his batch #1 unit in #bitcoin-dev yesterday or so, that's where I got that number.

1.22 / day / 250 means return your money in 204 days.
If that is too slow, don't buy in.  Don't use my estimates, get your own.  Your mileage may vary.
BLF will deliver overwhelming computational power in Nov, Dec, Jan, Feb, Mar, Apr,
They may be redesigned to have ventricles. (Jerry Pournelle, if you are old enough to remember.)

Don't be upset. Just run proper calculations with http://www.bitcoinx.com/profit/ taking into account a) current difficult, b) difficulty projection based on last two weeks increase, c) profitability decline, d) hashrate taking into account you won't get 24/7 uptime

You will see that 99% it will be impossible to get 250BTC back in 50 days with batch 2 Avalon.

This. And add that you never get 24/7 uptime. 250BTC is a lot and no way you get a ROI in 50 days, this is pure math.
4915  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: [WTS] Avalon ASIC Batch #2 Income Sharing on: March 26, 2013, 11:46:46 PM
Really don't want to screw your post, but at least one of the auctions looks very scammy because of the bidding pattern. 250BTC is a high price indeed, and those auctions aren't solid enough to base the price on them imo.

I think you could share with us a scenario you expect based on difficulty projection and profitability decline per year factor - if the difficulty goes x2 there you go with 2.5BTC per day, with difficulty increasing week by week, imo that's the more likely scenario.
4916  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Group Buy] Avalon ASIC Batch 3 [Open again for a 6th unit] on: March 26, 2013, 11:31:45 PM
My point is more along the lines of, if Coinhoarder is unavailable for a long period, many things may be affected, such as power could stay off, and miners stay idle, or dividends are not paid while Coinhoarder is in traction, etc.... it would be nice if Coinhoarder was not in this as a total lone wolf....

agreed.  i am sure there are several people here that are willing and able to offer support.  like he said we will discuss this after the ordering craze is done

Yes, we will discuss all potential problems and their solutions later. I do not expect anything to happen though... should just be able to turn on the Avalons and get to mining. Smiley

Do you have proper cooling for these. These are going to output a LOT of heat.

And I hope he gets a good system to automatize payments, lots of investors!
4917  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Cheaper 20Gh/s Avalon? on: March 26, 2013, 11:13:28 PM
I think in Avalon's FAQ they state that you can buy modules in bulk.

BTW: Allinvain, how's your machine hashing?  Grin

It's hashing quite nicely. 3 days of uptime with the latest (not NEXT) firmware so it's all good  Grin

May I ask if yours came with PSU? If yes, any problem with customs? If not, you got a 650W one for it?

Hmm... I've been doing some calculations using the calculator at http://www.bitcoinx.com/profit/. Am I correct that each investor gets about 0.062875 Bitcoins per day per bitcoin invested?(assuming current difficulty and without any reductions due to power cost).

I am a student and do not have much money to use on such a project. I might be able to use one or maybe two bitcoins.

that is correct at current difficulty etc.

Difficulty will be probably x3 when you get the unit. And after that, it will reach x10 very fast (lower "Profitability decline per year" in www.bitcoinx.com/profit/)

Investing is cool, but think about what you're doing.
