I said it was a scam as well, but forum moderator "psy" saw it fit to delete my post.  Seems to go in line with this forums policy to protect and promote scans.

Funny how the whole libertarian freedom thing goes out the window once you go against the moderator's personal veiws.

BFL will eventually deliver. They are merely (very) late, not a scam. Perhaps you do not know their history as a successful FPGA vendor.

Know what, even if they deliver, tomorrow, they're still a fat fucking scam...

Quote from: Parable of The Pigfarm v0.1
Let's imagine that...

In June I promise to sell you a tasty slab of pork belly for a dollar up front, to be delivered when the pigs are slaughtered in October.

In August I buy a pig-farm and hire some workers.
In October I promise to deliver in November.
In November I promise to deliver in December.
In December I promise to deliver in January.
In January I promise to deliver in February.
In February I promise to deliver in March...

You start having second thoughts about this.

The law clearly states that you can get your money back.

Well, I say you can't.

Conveniently, I'm the one who has your money.

I decide that if you're sufficiently annoying, it's easier for me to just give your money back,
but you can only have half, one third, one fourth, one eighth of it.

Where do you think the money for the pig farm came from?

I've got you trapped now, you can't have your money and you cant have your pork.

Cheap tasty pork bellies start arriving from China. And your stomach makes very hungry noises.

I assure you that at some time in next two weeks you will get your pork belly.

I've told you so six times before. Each time it has been a lie. (I need time to get production up and running.)

You discover that I've scammed people like you for many years and have gone to jail for doing so.

Finally, I give you a slice of bacon.

Am I not a scammer?

Perhaps you do not know their history as a successful FPGA vendor.

Hilarious.

Two scenarios:-

You buy off BFL and it's a scam, you loose money.

You buy off BFL and it's legit, everyone get's a super miner piece of hardware, difficulty goes up, becomes useless...

You lose money. Either way.  Angry

No.
They may be incompetent in giving time estimates.
You may personally dislike the fact they refund the USD value instead of the BTC value (but regardless of what you think, this is standard practice for merchants when pricing goods/services in currency X while the customer pays in currency Y).

But these facts alone are not sufficient to make them scammers. It is pretty obvious for long-time observers they have been working their asses off for months to try to deliver as soon as possible. They have no interest in intentionally delaying. The more they delay, the more customers ask for refunds. And refunding (giving back to customers the full device's USD selling price) is more costly than delivering (the device's manufacturing cost is lower than its selling price - that's their margin).

BFL is staffed with chronic liars doing what chronic liars do. They're in violation of FTC prompt delivery rules and have been for months. Placing an order with them at this time is a huge risk as their cash flow could go negative at any time(if it hasn't already) or they could be shut down by the authorities.

Exactly, and if they really have the mining hardware why sell it? They could become billionaires just mining using their own hardware instead of selling it and making the difficulty hit through the roof.

I posted this message in BFL's forums, and I was banned. I think you deserve to read the post, and take your conclusions from this event:

------------------------------------------------
Dear fellows, (quick post because Im at lunch time)

working in a high IC brokerage company in California (I may not disclose details), I have access to privileged business information, even some under nda's.
I can tell you that BFL did contacted a few enterprises, but just for budget info. From then, no more contacts were carried on that I know of on this business area.

If this forum is really official, please note some points:
   - Agressive anti-return policy (changing threads' names, complicating procedures, etc..)
   - The development schedulle is quite odd: they did not made a first debugging batch just for testing purposes, as usually companies do before starting full production.
   - Although current state-of-the-art simulators contemplate a lot of phenomena, it is quite strange they can give so accurate specs without hands-on.
   - Please note https://forums.butterflylabs.com/off-topic/1262-extremely-dumb-questions-regarding-butterfly-labs-asics-2.html that some forum users are advocating BFL in a rather suspicious way, what suggests that they are either obsecated with this company, or they are just dummy users, registred by BFL.

You should be ready for some disappointing news: either the chips are not being made were BFL_josh says, or they just wanted to have a clue on plausible numbers, to perform what I could classify as dishonesty.
----------------------------------------------------

To what the last point is concerned (dummy users) please beware that they could have also dummy users (run by BFL) on this forum.

Best regards.

And since I am posting on this forum,

I can tell you that (its so exciting to tell you this) there are privatly held bitcoin asic chips running for almost a year, and the funny thing is that I cannot say for sure if they are legit, or try to mess with the system.

I'm taking pre-orders on my own home-made ASICs (which also double as a finger-box) they run at all manner of THs and will guarantee huge returns of bitcoins for a paltry investment of only 17k per unit.

place orders in brown paper bag and hide behind the 2nd toilet in the men's room of the Chevron station at highway 7 and 16th. delivery sometime next leap-year.

I'm almost beginning to think that BFL was a scheme by a small cadre of GPU miners to keep new miners from entering the game. I know I would have bought another card if the prospect of ASICS wasn't "any day now". Truly BFL has not just screwed over those who have actually given them money.
