4921  Economy / Auctions / Re: Advertise on this forum - Round 44 on: August 04, 2012, 12:35:58 AM
I don't think I'll be here for the auction end, though I'll be back 12-24 hours from then to collect payments.
4922  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Feedback from Tor user about bitcointalk.org and freenode #bitcoin* on: August 03, 2012, 02:58:21 AM
I don't have a problem with people selling forum accounts to Tor users as long as the price is significant enough to deter people from repeatedly evading bans (maybe 0.25 BTC). I might add this feature to the board itself at some point.
4923  Other / Meta / Re: Do not post off-topic replies on: August 03, 2012, 02:31:28 AM
@Theymos - Why do we need open discussion in private marketplace ads? As I said before nothing is stopping people from making reports or making other threads about users if they abuse the control over their own threads.

You can use local thread rules if you don't want free discussion in your topics.
4924  Other / Meta / Re: Do not post off-topic replies on: August 02, 2012, 09:49:57 PM
Would it be possible to let users delete off topic posts in their own threads? I have had a problem several times with people hijacking marketplace posts for trades who have no interest in an exchange but feel it is their duty to intervene or offer advice on every little thing even if it is completely counter productive to trading. If a user was abusing his ability to remove posts, nothing is stopping others from making their own threads to point this out, or for that matter reporting it to staff. Since forum policy states the OP should be able to dictate the post rules anyway, I think this could both serve the community and reduce staff workload.

No. This would get in the way of free discussion. Most people are bad moderators. The OP sets the initial conditions for discussion and then loses all control over the topic. OPs do not own replies by other people.

4926  Other / Meta / Re: Cross-posting eqtiquette? on: August 02, 2012, 04:02:57 PM
Well, the linking thread could be locked and have no further posts, so the clutter in the section is still reduced while giving people an opportunity to learn about the main thread.

It's fine if it's locked.

Unlocked cross-posts are OK only in "Newbies", "Important announcements", and the local sections.
4927  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Alt Coin Members - Please be careful - BitcoinEXpress = MicroCashMike on: August 02, 2012, 06:23:22 AM
BitcoinEXpress asked me to clarify: I only know that the forum account DannyMaddox is BitcoinEXpress. I don't know anything about real people named "Danny Maddox".

Theymos, for the record..... Could you please publicize ALL of my bitcointalk.org forum accounts/alter-egos, please ?

IP evidence shows only Allan74 as an obvious possibility, though there could be more.
4928  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Alt Coin Members - Please be careful - BitcoinEXpress = MicroCashMike on: August 02, 2012, 05:51:34 AM
Yep. BitcoinEXpress is DannyMaddox and MicroCashMike.
4929  Other / Off-topic / Re: Christians - is it fake ? on: August 02, 2012, 02:54:31 AM
Most of the Christians I know barely know who Muhammad is. So I'd say that this is fake, or at least a very rare occurrence.
4930  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Who was the user that annouced his suicide on Bitcointalk? on: August 02, 2012, 12:26:39 AM
His spirit was trapped in this forum and he continues to annoy us from beyond the grave.
4931  Other / Meta / Re: labels/tags instead of subfora? on: August 01, 2012, 11:40:24 PM
In the meantime, it'd be nice to know what moderators and developers think at this point - is this technically feasible?

It's a good idea and I'd love to have it (with some additional features), but I don't think it can be done well with SMF.

Thoughts on how best to do it:

Some tags (the current boards) would be listed as they are now on the front page. Additional less-popular tags would be shown in a categorized list elsewhere. A tag cloud could also be made available.

An "ignore topic" feature would be a good complement so you don't keep seeing the same topic you don't care about on multiple pages.

It'd be cool if users could define a number of "tag mashup" pages. Each page would list topics with any of several tags, and topics with certain tags could also be excluded from the page. Like a page containing topics with the tag "development" and "mining", but not "alternative clients" or "alternative currencies". If a topic matches multiple tags, it would only appear once on the page.

A separate report feature for incorrect tags would be nice. The reporter could add or remove tags from the current set for a topic, and moderators would see an easy summary like "+development, +mining, -discussion".
4932  Other / Meta / Re: Forum notifications on: August 01, 2012, 10:46:46 PM
Clearly you don't want to be shown new replies to your posts. You should use the watchlist feature instead.
4933  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Newbie restrictions on: August 01, 2012, 05:18:58 AM
it stopped counting again, so what is the point of "total time logged in" if it is completely innacurate?

The counter only updates occasionally. It's still being tracked continuously.
4934  Other / Meta / Re: labels/tags instead of subfora? on: July 31, 2012, 10:10:54 PM
That would be good. The tags would need to be admin-defined, though. Tag systems where posters can come up with arbitrary tag names make it hard for readers to find stuff, since posters often choose strange and incorrect tags.

This'd be pretty hard to add to SMF (and probably most forum software), though.

Admin----> Current Theme-----> Member Options

Click "Change current options for all members using this theme"

Set the pulldown next to "Save a copy of each personal message in my outbox by default" to CHANGE.  Check the box, also.  Scroll down and save your changes.

I don't see this. Are you sure it's in SMF 1.1.x?
4936  Other / Off-topic / Re: Tomorrow at around 9:40PM KST my death will air on MBC in Korea on: July 31, 2012, 05:45:50 AM
We were French priests trying to spread the gospel to Korea and the Korean king thought that it undermined his authority so he started war with the French. Killing me was just a "Fuck you" on the way out.

Is the audience meant to be sympathetic toward the Koreans or the French?
4937  Other / Meta / Re: Automatically save outgoing PM's in outbox on: July 31, 2012, 02:12:01 AM
I've looked into setting that option by default, but it wasn't obvious to me how to do it. It looks like it might be difficult.

There is no PM limit.

4939  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: BTC block timestamp limited to year 2106, will bitcoin work after that ? on: July 30, 2012, 04:15:20 PM
unsigned int is good until 2106.  Surely the network will have to be totally revamped at least once by then.

There should not be any signed int.  If you've found a signed int somewhere, please tell me (within the next 25 years please) and I'll change it to unsigned int.
4940  Other / Meta / Re: Regular users should not be able to lock their own threads on: July 30, 2012, 03:25:35 AM
I'd prefer that they weren't able to delete them though.

They aren't.
