4982  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Square Says It Bought $50 Million of Bitcoin on: October 11, 2020, 11:05:02 AM
A big move for a company, however we cannot yet tell that this investment made by them will cause big impact to bitcoin's value.

Actually it did have an impact, bitcoin was trading on the lower range of $10,000 before the news broke and spike the price to $11,400 before the correction step in. It did affect some alts too as majoriuif them saw a spike in price too mostly due to bitcoin increase and not the news directly. In my opinion, the amount bought was just too small for a company as big as that but it could be Jack was just taking some precautions measures since the uncertainty of the market is at its peak.

The reaction from the market just showed the market was waiting for any news to follow. Assuming it was a negative news it would had crashed the market just as it did with the trump's news of him having the coronavirus. 4700+ bitcoin ($50million) is a small amount to have much impact as it did on the market. Considering the bitcoin market is over billions of dollars.

Quote
We cannot quite guarantee that it will reach highest it's highest point value because of these one

Don't think there was any attempt by Jack to create FOMO in the market and spike the price to its previous all time high, if that was his intention then $50millions was too small to do the trick.
4983  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: IOCTA 2020 – Internet Organized Crime Threat Assessment (Europol) on: October 11, 2020, 10:43:53 AM
I like the fact that Bitcoin and some other cryptocurrencies creates privacy, but sometimes I don’t like this privacy because some dumb people are taking it the wrong way.

They're not dumb instead they're smart as it take a smart individuals to the advantage bitcoin offers to choose it over other fiat. Without the introduction of the currency, these crimes would had still be functioning and getting the funding through others means that the general public feel is safe and secure which isn't the case. Every payment options is been used illegally in one way or the other. The government are just mad that of bitcoin gives the power back to the individuals and not a centralized body for them to oversee it.

Excluding the fact that it's a blockchain company that's providing this information still it should not be surprising that their findings came out with an impressive result of bitcoin been used mainly as an investment options and also for trading, just like other currency and digital payment option the rate at which this currency are used for crime can't overshadowed the legitimate used of the currencies since the currency wasn't developed for the crime purpose.

Quote
I would also expect a lot more regulations as various governments consider establishing their CBDCs to control the digital market.

This is something we can't just ignore, the community is searching for more global acceptance, therefore we'll have  no option but to scarify our privacy for that to be happen.

so how do we know that crypto exchngers dont sell us the coins what they dont exisit?

Firstly you shouldn't patronize just newly launched exchanges that doesn't have a reputation in the community. These newly launched exchanges are the ones that could pull off such stunt and still go away with it. For the older exchanges although I'm not backing them to not be capable of doing these but due to the fact they won't want to risk lossing the trust they have already gained, they won't and if circumstances was to focused them (like lack of funds) they would turn to other means (like insurance) for funds.

Confirming if you have the coins you just bought is in your possession and not mere false balance is quite easy, you can try withdrawing and if it goes through then you're safe. Be very careful though as doing your due diligence before buying any coin to avoid buying a coin the wallet is under maintenance is vital. This maintenance technique is widely used by exchanges to slow down the withdrawal rate of the coins they don't have the volume at the moment.

You can easily observe this on smaller exchanges like mercatox but on a large scale if you buy from well known exchanges with trading volume, the possiblity of falling victims to the scheme is very rare.
4985  Economy / Speculation / Re: history loves repeating itself. the only question is when! on: October 10, 2020, 08:20:06 PM
I feel kind of left out when I see discussion backing years back like that of bitcoin trying to break the $200 resistance, just maybe if I did have those experience, I would have had a more positive response to the up and down movement of the market, because I'm just exhausted. The predictions are just contradicting themselves, thought a crash was coming anything soon due to the second of wave of corona or is that off the table for such positive speculations?. Just asking because I already have most of my portfolio in fiat hoping for that $9.5 - $9.8 crash.

I saw in old times that whenever we are extremely positive about the markets that something good is happening, that's when a bad scenario takes place

I have noticed that too, but sometimes the FOMO just gets too loud that we fall for them. A famous example was the prediction of a massive raise in price after the halving of the block reward event but that wasn't the case. Although many already bought in anticipation of the event, which is why the post halving surge was more profitable than the immediately market reaction after the halving.

but even after all this warning about 85-90% of all crypto users normally store or leave their crypto on exchanges, that's why each time an exchange is been hacked you'll see alot of people crying, because they have lost all their assets due to the hack.

I had an opportunity to have a conversation with some individuals at a seminar I attended earlier this year before the whole coronavirus pandemic shutdown everything. The reason most cryptocurrencies investors still trust these exchanges over them holding their funds is the same reason banks are seeing high patronage from the average citizens. People don't trust themselves to oversee the affair of their finance.

They believed in entrusting the funds to management services providers to do it for them. Also the stress of investing in the industry especially when you're of the altcoin industry is just tiresome that if you're inform, you might be left behind in times of smart contract upgrade etc. But if these coins are on exchange, you can just feel relaxed to some extent although I'm not advocating for it.

Now when this coins are moved off exchanges, you'll still find out that centralized wallets are the next stop which isn't any different from where it was previously residing. It would be very hard to get everyone to buy into the idea of holding their coins as the exchange keep decieving them that their coins are safe and insurance funds keep bailing the exchanges out in times of hack.
4987  Economy / Reputation / Re: Coolcryptovator's telegram impersonator. on: October 10, 2020, 07:29:34 PM
You have to get agree with me that the guy who have created this account with this username is quite talented.

Nah the scammer isn't that smart as it is just a common trick used to scammed users on twitter most especially verified account or fans based account with wide range of audience. I must admit it took quite some time for it to get to telegram as until @Coolcryptovator observation, I haven't seen any complain similar to yours from telegram.

Impersonating isn't something the forum is new to, I have been in similar situations and I'm sure others have had similar experience too most especially if you're offering a service or selling any goods on the forum, which is why I had to input a warning previously on all my service thread until the attacks died down.

Another media you can use to combat this scammers is to inform your clients to confirm they're speaking with the right person through DMs on the forum. I'm glad the scammers were not successful as scenario like this kind of paint you bad until the air is cleared.
4988  Other / Meta / Re: Possible solution to merit burning on: October 10, 2020, 07:05:22 PM
- stop obsessing over statistics, and spend the time discussing the crypto economies.

Just have to qoute this from your statement as I'm also having some issue with this and the worst part is the users guilty of this, still get awarded with all sorts of kudos and merits that make them feel great and end up giving us another worthless stats thread. I'm concerned because I get mentioned in almost all and when I see such notification on telegram, my enthusiasm to contribute to the discussion (as I was mentioned), get disappointed because it's another stats crab.

At first it was cool, but it's getting old and boring. We have third party platforms out there that we can get all those information from, so why keep flooding the forum with them. No doubt there are some interesting ones out there but majority aren't worth the hypes (merit-wise) they get.

In regards to the main topic in discussion, we have talked all we can about the merit system, the demerit, merit source bank conversation etc are all old and have been addressed. If the forum is lacking smerits, theymos knows what to do. Creating of more smerit is just a click of a mouse away (I believe so). So that shouldn't be our worries instead the quest to increase the quality of posts on the forum should be the focus.
4989  Other / Off-topic / Re: The best way of public announcement on: October 10, 2020, 06:41:36 PM
Having said that, I personally don’t like social media at all (say someone with over 5,6k posts here)

Participating on the forum is quite different from other Media, I spend a lot of time on twitter but don't have as much posts as I do on the forum. The engagement, interaction and must recent feature from one of the third party providers (bot) that gives me notification took the engagement a little step further as it made the interaction more enjoyable due to the fact, I don't have to manually search for users that quoted me to respond to. Don't get why the forum doesn't have that feature yet.

OP just as others have mentioned, I don't think there's a universal approach that could guarantee you success with advertising of your new product, some will do well if you make use of online medias while others will do well either through physical promotion or traditional means that involves buying of ad slots on media networks.

It's left for the project to determine which medium would best suit its advertisment. Although just as you have highlighted, the internet has made things easier but you still have to choice among the numerous social media out there. Personally I'll go for twitter as If you're capable of hiring influencers then your product would be heard by millions of customers but still that doesn't guarantee millions of patronage.
4990  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Learn and think for better growth on: October 10, 2020, 12:07:46 PM
The fact that this is the Beginners board, is not an excuse to post low quality or to shitpost. Other users on these boards should stop replying to these spammers and report them.

Nice observation there buddy as your reply just made me look into the account and it seems you were right. Although the user has only 5 posts, still there's a big difference between the first created topic (that's, first post the user made on the forum) and the rest but since am no english expert and could still understand what the user was trying to say in all his post, it's a pass for me but that doesn't mean the OP shouldn't take advice and improve on his English. English writing is a very vital skills that should be learnt by all, it'll help you anywhere both on and off the forum.

In regards to your questions (inquires), you have to engage yourself more in the forum to learn and gain some additional knowledge. Don't restrict your participation to just this particular board, widen your reach, explore other board most especially the bitcoin related ones. The gab between your first post and the rest shouldn't become a norm as it shows you're not participating frequently with discussion ongoing on the forum.

Knowledge is gained with frequent interaction, if you read more books, automatically you know more. The same with the forum, when you read more topic (most especially quality ones) and interact more (contribute to ongoing discussion), also take corrections and improve on yourself, you gain more know.
4991  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: My experiences so far and my advises for the newbies. on: October 10, 2020, 11:49:26 AM
It's quite interesting to see how far you have come, I remember seeing this topic when it was posted and the observation from @OgNasty of you not mentioning bitcoin in your entire post. Having that in mind I was curious on reading your just posted reply (more like a bump to this topic) and observing if similar observation like that of @OgNasty will still be seen but I was disappointed which is a good sign of you taking corrections and improving on yourself.

My advice won't be any different from yours but some addition of always been enthusiastic on learning about bitcoin as that's the main purpose of joining the forum. You would had gain nothing if your knowledge of bitcoin before and after you joined the forum are still the same unless you must be some expert already before joining the forum (which I doubt many of us are).

The opportunity the forum offers that you can gain are countless so don't rush the process, allow the forum pass through you while you stay in the forum. Always strive to improve as that's the only way you can see yourself progressing both on and off the forum.
4992  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: -be guarded- enough of a other boards topics on this board on: October 10, 2020, 11:31:04 AM
There's every truth in what you have said but lets not forget, this is the beginner and help board, every post is welcomed here. We shouldn't expect newbie to know exactly every board that there topic should fit in, they're newbie for christ sake.

Just as @joniboini has answered, most of the users posting on the board and also guilty of posting of off-topic posts on this board aren't newbies, rank wise, the board has be hijacked from it's intend purpose and has been turned into a hurting ground for merits. To some extent it kind of add value to the board because more quality topic and reply are introduced daily but that doesn't mean it's ok.

This is a beginner board (as the name implies) so mistakes are bond to happen but we shouldn't misuse that privilege, atleast if the noobs are doing it, the higher ranked users shouldn't join the party as that will only encourage the noobs and future newbies to continue in our footsteps. Each board has a specific purpose for it's creation that's why we have different board for different discussion so we should learn to used them appropriately.

For now reporting of the topics to be moved when we encountered them has to be the most effective option. Although as I have previously mentioned, ignoring this type of topic and not giving them attention until they have been moved to an appropriate board could contribute to the reduction in the rate of such topic getting posted here.
4993  Economy / Speculation / Re: What will happen next if the resistance breaks? on: October 08, 2020, 03:35:41 PM
The resistance level break has the chance of a downward movement than the forward push. There is minor fluctuations in the market volume at specific time interval. Right now there is big variation in the market of altcoins, almost every altcoin have declined on its value.

But don't you think the downtrend of altcoins was just uncalled for and they were oversold, looking at a chart I saw coins declining as much at -99% to -70% just within 1/2weeks. The DeFi projects were one of the most affected sections of alt which got me wondering what the recover story of the market will be when that time comes, whether the DeFi coins will get less attention or they'll be top recoverers.

The bitcoin price movement is getting tiresome to watch as the up and down movement continues. Currently it's trading at around $10,800 with a resistance still been at $11,000 which would be very difficult for bitcoin to break also few altcoins are also pumping which is a positive signs of the altcoin won't be left out when the bull market returns.

Because they see the value of their national currency declining.
And the only countries that I think agree with Bitcoin are developed countries like China and Japan. Smiley

They know the valve of the currency, they are just trying to play the first mover advantage. Deep down they're only trying to overthrown the US by dominating what they believe will be the next world currency.
4994  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Rather learn to trade by yourself on: October 08, 2020, 03:10:29 PM
Love how you starting with indicating luck as one of the key factors before listing the others. Many feels that's not the case but that's my believe because irrespective of how enlightening, educated or good you're on any field, you'll need a little bit of luck to excel in that field. There has to be those that'll greater than you when this qualities are measure but might not habe your level if luck, which will just out yiu above them.

One of the mistakes most traders make that cost them big time is the lack of using stop loss for their trade. The market is highly volatile and since we aren't bots to be constantly monitoring the market to sell when the market is moving in a negative direction, the only leverage we have over that is to have a stop-limit market already in place waiting to be executed.

The advantage of experiencing trading yourself than giving your money to some 'so called expert' is that you learn both ways, when the market goes in your prediction, you profit and also learn how to make such correct prediction and in a scenario when the market was goes against you, you'll still gain by taking corrections on bettering yourself but that can be said if you're relying on another user experience.
4995  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: -be guarded- enough of a other boards topics on this board on: October 08, 2020, 02:50:48 PM
99% of the topics getting posted on this board shouldn't be here including yours too. But I guess we're tired of using the moderator button (as the more you report and topics get moved, the more new ones are created) lol. The beginner and help board is viewed as the most convenient board for users hoping to get merited that's why you see lots of unrelated topic getting started on the board. And in as much as they post and they get merited, more and more users hoping to receive same favor will jump on the trend.

If we want to reduce the rate of such type of threads then we have to stop meriting them when they're posted. Unconsciously to some and consciously to others when merit hunters see a particular type of thread recieve merits they feel the urge to try their luck too as a result,  they'll likely replicate such thread or try to produce something similar, with the sole purpose of recieving merit.

The examples aren't far from us as we see threads relating to ranking up becoming a norm on the beginner and help board that even when it's posted on other boards like meta, others redirect the poster to this section of the forum, which shouldn't be the case as those post are not related to this board in any form.
4996  Other / Meta / Re: Bitcoin talk could fix the spam in one move....REMOVE SIGNATURE...Right?? on: October 08, 2020, 11:16:44 AM
When the merit system was introduced it got attack with the reason that only the 'so called elite' will control the system, meriting only those they want to progress on the forum in regards to ranking up but I guess the story today is different. Time changed that mindset, with time too and some little adjustment that of the signature feature could change too. Today we act as if the signature ad feature has been so bad, only taking away from the forum instead of contributing but I can proved to you that campaigs have also had their moment in bettering the forum in some way, it might be small but it does have its impact.

Apart from the fact of gaining merit, you can see users improving their quality of conversation to make their account worth hiring for promotion. They keep up this act to the extent that even when they're not promoting any campaign they still contribute quality posts. Remember the old saying 'fake it until you make it. Well I have seen users done so successfully and today you could point them out as one of those putting in effort into their post making.

The forum banning signature campaigns would be a wrong moved, not saying this just based on the fact that I'm a beneficiary to this feature. They should step in to govern it instead of letting spammers take ownership of the feature. Making campaign owners take responsibility of their participants and suffer any nuisance they cause on the forum would be a great start.
4997  Other / Meta / Re: If you received a merit... on: October 06, 2020, 09:29:12 PM

Welcome back, always knew you were alive 😉. The merit discussion is getting tiresome but the goodnews is there's a reduction in the new thread created on this topic although this merit related discussion is something we can't end in the forum since it's a part of the forum. Some threads like this makes a lot of sense compared to the random threads created by mostly newbie acting like they can give you want they don't have, coming out with their guides on merit without them having anything to show as proof.

Just to add some thought on the ongoing discussion, here's mind. If you received a merit from me.. it could likely means any time f the following and it's left for you to decide which category you fall under:
  • First and foremost, you deserved it (I hardly make mistakes but not immune to one) sometimes I might send amount ordinary, you'll feel it's too much but that's just how I operate.
  • Your post was above average but doesn't necessarily mean I found them useless to myself. It probably would had been a recommendation from someone else as I get that alot.
  • Could be out of my generosity as I practice that alot especially in my service related threads

On some occasion too, I could be in a rush to spend my monthly allocation before they declare especially when the month hasn't been fruitful in regards to finding deserving post.
4998  Other / Archival / Re: DeFi hyip is over? on: October 06, 2020, 08:52:17 PM
The hype died since September, and the only reason the market was still very active was as a result of the hype coming from new top exchange listing as the likes of Binance started listing anything related to DeFi to keep the volume on their exchange. Many gullible newbie were decieved by this as they most had probably rely on these exchange for Investing recommendation based on the new listing. Basically the coins were dump on the new investors getting expose to this project.

If you observed carefully most DeFi project has already done massive return of investment in the DeFi exchanges like Uniswap before they got the exposure big centralized exchanges offer. Anybody that must had bought within the time frame of late August to early weeks of September they obviously have to be in lost if they're still holding.

They hype is over but the technology is not over, the market was just over shallowed by worthless project which the current market situation will eliminate most of them and only the best will survive.
4999  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Bitcointalk or Cryptotalk? What is the best forum for a beginner? on: October 06, 2020, 05:23:12 PM
About a year ago, a new cryptocurrency forum appeared on the Internet - Cryptotalk.

Ok now this recent created topics with relation to shilling cryptotalk on the forum is begining to look like a strategic attempt of promoting their site on the forum once again because that's all they do here. Cryptotalk shouldn't be put in the same sentence as bitcointalk. We should be comparing the forum to that of altcointalk and their likes as it's not yet upto the standard to be competing with bitcointalk.

Like I said in my previous reply relating to this same topic, both forum operates differently therefore should never be compared as bitcointalk would always dominate. Bitcointalk needs no promotion, it's members does that for free. But the other platforms need the promotion and attractive marketing to stay relevant.

Consider cryptotalk to be like DeFi/ICo tokens that won't last long in the market and would always get replace with other wanna be but bitcointalk is bitcoin which irrespective of the market condition would still remain relevant.

5000  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: What I think will be the top cryptocurrencies in 2021 on: October 06, 2020, 11:25:33 AM
Hype doesn't matter for 1 coin which is Bitcoin which will be the number 1 crypto in 2021.Then Ethereum will folow bitcoin. But DeFi trend will affect the ethereum. If DeFi trend continues then ethereum will perform better in 2021 even from 2020.

I doubt that to be the case in regards to Ethereum"s prediction. There was no much DeFi effect on ethereum. It has its own catalyst although the DeFi hype added some volume but it'll be in the lowest form possible. Don't forget ethereum was picked to be the 'best performancing project for 2020' without DeFi been in the picture as a result of the ETH 2.0 speculated to launch this year. That only saw volume flowing into the ethereum project as investors bought in anticipation of the event.

The project would had still been a good investment even without DeFi coming into the picture. Looking at the recent incident that hit the market. The fall in ethereum wasn't that much reasons been that most traders took profit from their countless DeFi alts been traded and secured that profit in ethereum and bitcoin.

There are still high expectations for Ethereum as the hype towards Ethereum 2.0 hasn't slowed down. The success of the DeFi industry would only profit the Ethereum project more but that of a failure would not automatically means Ethereum will surfer.
