501  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Jacob Appelbaum: "Bitcoin Prediction: Major bugs in the near future ..." on: June 12, 2011, 10:09:36 AM
So can we get anyone to fix those bugs.

I belive the bugs has to do with the security of the bitcoin client. Making it easy to steal a wallet.
502  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Monday morning rally for real? on: June 12, 2011, 10:03:17 AM
I think on wednesday we will see the rally. People havent yet got their funds in.

But if I had funds I would by some now.

There will be a couple of turbolent months. But I can only see bitcoin going up in the long term.
Even if there are some major bugs right now. The fact that they were found means they will get fixed.

I can imagine people looking back in a couple of months thinking they sold em to cheap now.

503  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / We should pay rewards to stores that accept bitcoins for a certain period. on: June 11, 2011, 12:10:19 PM
There should be a reward program for companies that sell example software, if the take payment in bitcoins for atleast a certain period, such as 6 months or a year.

Perhaps 10 bitcoins to each the 100 biggest/known companies to accept bitcoins for a full 6 months or a full year.

It also has to be very clear on the frontpage/news payment option.

Companies should not be too small to get the reward.

504  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin price nosediving -- sell all my bitcoins? on: June 11, 2011, 09:21:44 AM

Great lots of thanks for the reply!
506  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Once mining is very hard, how will the network be safe? on: June 10, 2011, 03:29:23 PM
Just like the topic.
Once mining is very hard and miners quit. How will the system be kept safe?

507  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: price stagnation on: June 10, 2011, 02:06:45 PM
Its also right between two salary and summer.

People trade/buy more once they get pay and during autumn.

508  Economy / Economics / Re: It looks like the Bitcoin's value is about to see a major retrace on: June 10, 2011, 12:15:11 PM
I personally believe that the price is a bit high and like you said all the speculators are already in with their money. We need to get more drug users to come and use bitcoin.

Not that I am one, but I just know that it gets used a lot for this.

I see the Bitcoin with a stable price of 22$-25$ for now.

Not so sure. This can change quick with a couple of articles in one or more countries.

509  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Backup/mirror this forum on a non us site on: June 09, 2011, 08:27:49 PM
Should this forum should have a backup on a non use domain name/site in case they shut it down.

510  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Bitcoin Wallet on: June 09, 2011, 08:25:40 PM
Yes I wonder this too.

What if I backup my wallet and remove it.
Get some bitcoins to the same computer.

Will a new wallet be created?

Will my backedup bitcoins be gone if I restore the old wallet (on another computer?).
(Maybe dumb question.)

511  Economy / Economics / Re: Surviving government crackdown on: June 09, 2011, 06:21:48 PM
Banks are not only challenged.

They could store bitcoins saftly, give interest on bitcoins and bitcoin loans.
So they could operate as they have allways done.

512  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: TradeHill will become the top site over MTGox because of Referral and Discount on: June 09, 2011, 05:24:30 PM
Tradehill bought their domain on godaddy.
Not trading there untill they change domain, since it could get grabbed by US one day.

They should use a .co domain or something instead.

513  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Bitcoin clients per default use some cpu? on: June 09, 2011, 05:00:34 PM
Since its possible to notice if a pool with >50% is doing something to the network.

Brainstorming.

Would it not be good if it was checked from the clients on regular occassions?
And if it happens they start to use their some cpu/gpu increasing the power of good nodes?

A lot of people will not have their gpu/cpu running in the client, so it could add quite much?

Adding to the safty of the network, making it much harder to take over.

Some people have been concerned about powerful pools with >50% of the CPU power, so I added a log of reorg events:
http://blockexplorer.com/q/reorglog

If someone with a lot of CPU tries to reverse transactions, it will appear in that log as several sequential blocks being replaced. A few non-sequential replacements now and then are normal.

514  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Reminder - When stock prices hit 3 digits, people stop buying them. on: June 09, 2011, 02:34:36 PM
Yes there is one argument against.

It will not sound as impressive with a bitcoin thats worth $21 instead of $210.

So it will probably not get at all as much publicity. Since the split wont be mentioned or will not be comprehended by avarage joe.

But. I´m still for it.

Since people will have a hard time buying a small part of a coin and the 21 million makes it sound not that credible unless you look into it.

So maybe we should wait until it reaches $100 which will give it publicity.

Sooner or later it should be done.

515  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / How many have jumped on the train? on: June 08, 2011, 04:43:46 PM
Right now it appears there are only around 20.000 bitcoin nodes per 3 hours.

How many users are there per day?

My guess is that around the double perhaps 40-50.000 bitcoin nodes per 24 hr.

Thats still very low amount of bitcoin users...

516  Economy / Economics / Re: Hostile action against the bitcoin infrastracture on: June 07, 2011, 07:02:11 PM
What if the US instead saw this as an oportunity to secure their wealth by owning most of the bitcoins in the world?

517  Economy / Economics / Re: Bitcoin's Achilles Heel: Sustainable honest mining is ludicrous on: June 06, 2011, 09:54:57 AM
I have been thinking the same.

What happens once the mining does not pay for itself? Then people will stop mining and the network get insecure?

Unless some big companies have invested in the money and gives it power only to keep it safe?

518  Economy / Economics / Re: BTC = $19?! on: June 06, 2011, 09:42:26 AM
Bitcoins still have a long way to go. The client needs to be much safer and there is still the risc that it gets banned.
It takes time to develop good secure software and trustworthy software, atleast a year.
Probably something like two years from now we will have
the stoftware that is really needed.

Right now its a highrisc investment.

But of the earth population there is still like its only a few computer geeks who have invested in it.

When investors starts to get in, we will se the price increase.
What happens when the gold or oil industry jumps in?

Or if google used their equipment to mine?

I say in max two years from now we will know.
But its not going to replace fiat currency for a long time, since people dont want to loose all their money if their computer crashes.

But sure someday it might. Today a lot of trade is just done by digital numbers in a bank system.

519  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / A small weakness of bitcoins? on: June 05, 2011, 08:59:57 PM
Lets say I backup my bitcoins in a safe place.

However if someone restores a deleted copy of an unprotected wallet file and starts spending with that file.
It wont matter if I backed up my wallet.

So you not just only need to store the file, but also make sure its very wiped out from the harddrive.

Meaning that its very cumbersome to be very safe.

(Ofcourse this also applies to everything else)

But still, people have their money in banks which do have lots of protection.

520  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Should everyone with a computer let the program generate bitcoins? For safty? on: June 04, 2011, 11:49:16 AM
Read some articles about the possible weakness of the system.

That if someone gets over 50% of the computing power of the bitcoin network they would be able to manipulate the system in various ways.

But the more computer power that are non frauding the hard it gets to do something bad.

Therefor should everyone who use bitcoins have their computer on mining just to make the network safer? Or do you contribute to the overall security by just starting the bitcoin program?
