501  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Vertcoin - First Scrypt N | First Stealth Address - Privacy without mixer on: September 26, 2014, 01:11:42 PM
When you are a dev, you have to be really careful when you chat, because people want answers. But if the situation isn't clear, even to yourself, yet, then you cannot give people what they want, and it is better to say nothing. They will be in touch, of course, over the next couple of months, they will have to be, and asking for a "progress report" only increases their workload.

Seriously guys what's wrong with you? Do you think that evolving this thing is like sticking minecraft blocks together? Well, building a pocket calculator in minecraft took... did you see that video?
Now imagine that 10x more complex. That's still not even the tip of the iceberg.

The devs announced a fork and they are sticking to the schedule. Fine for me.

Anyone aware here of MYRiadcoin Simplicity package?
503  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Altcoin miners....Are you still mining? on: September 26, 2014, 08:29:43 AM
I am an occasional miner.
My PC burns easily 4€/week because I work on it.
With mining, it's perhaps in the range of 6€/week. Of course I keep mining.

Pre-alpha. I've never had any stability issue with it, even though my mainboard was dying.
Are you running it with the default config file?

The version currently on github should be able to run on multiple cards but it is largely obsolete by now. If I get my new system running by tonight, I will hopefully update tomorrow.

Can you reproduce at will?

It's possible but I hardly believe the recently announced projects didn't have a part in it.
C'mon, even I can understand how this is going to benefit me or the whole crypto ecosystem. The rumors became news and the news went around.

Halving already? I should really get into mining seriously!
507  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: I'm selling half of my CN coins, can someone tell me if this new thread is true? on: September 23, 2014, 10:30:57 AM
Apparently this "superior" anonymity is given "With a multi-homed farm of secure nodes" (emphasis mine).
So basically they are making this anonymous ... hiding data? What will happen if a node is compromised?

The point of blockchains is everything can happen without trusting anyone. In terms of anonymity Ring Signatures just cannot be beaten. I have been following NEOS for a while but I'm not in.

I hope your analysis is correct OP and this brings us to a new phase of maturity with less PnD alts and the surviving ones moving to acceptance and usability.

As this cools dows, I think it's obvious BTC will rise again but don't ask me how much or when!

Great update with lots of value, MYR adoption is going to be much improved!

This isn't really a good news, is it?
I'm afraid I agree. Totally absurd.

That looks nice Tyke... but I'm afraid you would have to update the PoW part !

Hey bogglor, how are XFX cards? They are sold super cheap around here but I've read various users not so happy about them. I'm thinking about getting one.
513  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: was there this much Fud about the internet? on: September 20, 2014, 02:02:47 PM
the amount of fud about bitcoin is much big... was there similar fud about internet in its origin years
No, not even close. Maybe I've just been lucky but I recall everyone being quite enthusiastic about being able to just post in a forum.

The amount of good thinking was incredible.
514  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: mining with laptop on: September 20, 2014, 01:59:17 PM
Because you are using laptop, I believe you can't get any better. Also make sure your heat is around 70-80C level...
Even at 80C system lifespan might be compromised. While the silicon might cut it, many other components (particularly capacitors) will suffer, especially when airflow is low (such as in a laptop).

Use with extreme caution and only for educational runs.

I would stay away from Richland APUs honestly. If you don't use the integrated graphics there's no point in buying APUs.
Want to stay AMD? Try the Athlon brand (APU with no GPU), otherwise consider Intel.

If I recall correctly this is for Windows only right?  Any plans to release a linux version so that I could upgrade from PiMP?
TL;DR; not any time soon.
Only Windows. Only AMD GCN.

Reasons (besides the historical ones related to my past experiences with it):
  • No GUI guaranteed to exist → cannot be ported to "linux" (can be ported at most to some Window Manager on top of it);
  • I am not going to support any kind of interface by ncurses (it's against main rationale anyway);
  • I assumed multiple window managers were a thing of the past with Gnome winning out. It turns out KDE is still around and perhaps even more → N times the work to support N window managers.
  • No added value for me
  • Needs validation on big-endian architectures - much more likely in non-windows.

Options are the following:
  • 90 day Win evaluation copy - just leave the license key empty - this is legal in my country but might be not the case for you;
  • I might strip out all GUI with relative ease. What's not easy is having another linux installation with proper dev tools on an HDD already running out of space and life;
  • Somebody might port the algos to legacy miners. Not trivial but nothing it cannot be done in... I think someone very well versed in legacy miners could do it in less than a week as the kernels are likely broken on BE architectures (it's possible, if not likely someone already did);
  • Wait until the proper "server version" is released.

We all know what berries are, even as we know there are many exotic kinds of them we've never heard of but which are probably delicious and wonderful.  Cloudberries?!  Why yes, I'd love to try those!
QFE.

520  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: GPU Mining on: September 17, 2014, 03:14:55 PM
That is the spirit. Do not buy GPU for mining only.
To be honest I was considering buying a 280x ... my circulation pump is broken and it's only half the cost (LOL intended!)
