Sorry for your loss.

Did they explain to you why they didn't send an e-mail for confirmation?
502  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Nasdaq and blockchain-question on: July 24, 2015, 03:54:44 PM
They are actually using the bitcoin blockchain.

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1062830.msg11397495#msg11397495

Thanks. People should save that image and use it everytime someone confronts you about "they said they are using blockchain technology, NOT bitcoin, bitcoin will fail lol!". Those idiots are the worst I swear to god. Hopefully newspapers start correctly informing people and at least learn what colored coins, sidechains and so on, are.
I appreciate the clarification as I incorrectly assumed that they would start their own blockchain.

It makes sense to use a blockchain that others a diligently maintaining and securing for you. Creating a new one is an unnecessary cost and risk.
503  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Setting up a bitcoin business on: July 24, 2015, 03:04:31 PM
For banking you might want to look at Lloyds as they've already set out the way Bitcoin can be insured, so their banking department might be more up on accepting existing structures. Not necessarily, but it may be worth a look.
Lloyds of London are a separate entity to Lloyds Bank, so sadly I don't think so.
504  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: When will be the time for TV ads about Bitcoin? on: July 23, 2015, 03:52:47 PM
It would be pretty cool seeing a bitcoin related ad on TV. Sort of like the first time I saw Bitcoin being mentioned in financial newspapers.

Actually, didn't Bitpay already do some ads during the super bowl?
505  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2015-07-23] Survey: bitcoin price will be $500 by the end of the year on: July 23, 2015, 03:41:03 PM
While it is hard for enthusiasts not to be optimistic about the price, it is definitely not healthy for bitcoin if people expect it to moon overnight.

Slow and steady wins the race.
506  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Bitcoin exchange fees on: July 23, 2015, 09:22:29 AM
I didn't realise that Coinbase are charging so much.

Maybe they would get more uptake if they lowered them.

Could be worth trying Coinsetter.
507  Economy / Speculation / Re: 1 BTC = $5,000 by end of the year! on: July 22, 2015, 07:38:57 PM
Just noticed the convenient vertical line upwards on that chart....right before the end of the year  Grin

Yes, Santa will take Bitcoin on his sleigh and bring it to the moon !
Actually, Robot Santa lives on Neptune...

Just getting past the previous ATH by the end of the year would be difficult enough. I wager you will be waiting quite a while longer for $5,000.

511  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin's Killer App is Money on: July 22, 2015, 07:23:54 PM
Yes, there are so many different use cases. All we need is time.

Being able to send value to anywhere in the world without an intermediary is, on its own, more than enough for Bitcoin to succeed.

...
this alone should convince many people to join bitocin, the simple fact that it does not, mean that many don't know about bitcoin or trust too much the banks
...
People's trust in banks will be shaken over time; capital controls and depositor haircuts will incentivise people to seek out alternatives.

Bitcoin will be waiting patiently Smiley

512  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: [ESHOP launched] Trezor: Bitcoin hardware wallet on: July 22, 2015, 07:09:01 PM
Can somebody point me to the list of all the other coins supported by Trezor, other than bitcoin. Does something like that even exists?

Thanks guys and keep up a good work.

Encompass wallet - Litecoin and DASH as well as Bitcoin

http://doc.satoshilabs.com/trezor-apps/
I wasn't aware this was possible with a trezor.

It's great as those are the two coins I would want supported. Monero too, but that's a different kettle of fish!

513  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: [BETA] Coinffeine. Distributed Bitcoin exchange. on: July 22, 2015, 07:03:21 PM
This is great news! I will download and have a play.

Its success will be based on the fiat options that are offered. OKPay alone won't cut it.
514  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2015-07-18] Criminal Case Against Bitcoin Trader in Colorado Dropped on: July 22, 2015, 06:48:11 PM
I'm really glad the case was dismissed. The whole thing is shocking.

Good luck in the future, Burt.
515  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: [ANN] SpaceBTC.com - Get early access. Ready to trade BTC like a star? on: July 22, 2015, 06:41:56 PM
Can you provide any background information on the people behind this? Who are you and why should we trust you?

I do like the look of the site and the list of features  Smiley

516  Economy / Speculation / Re: How much do you think 1 Bitcoin will be worth in 2020? on: July 22, 2015, 06:30:30 PM
If the technology is still proven to be sound (no 50% attack etc.), then $1,000-$100,000.

517  Economy / Auctions / Re: Auction uid 4764 on just dice on: July 22, 2015, 06:28:27 PM
Am I missing something - what is the benefit of selling user ids?

Rapid direct democracy
- snip -

Other names for "Rapid direct democracy" are:

  • Mob Rule
  • Ochlocracy
  • Majoritarianism
  • Demagoguery

It typically doesn't lead to positive results.

I agree that this may not be a positive, depending on how it might be used.

Supermajoritarianism might be okay Cheesy
519  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Decentralized System on: July 22, 2015, 05:41:48 PM
I think we will see decentralisation happen in many aspects of life.

Once the general public get used to safely storing and using their own personal private keys, all sorts of things become possible.

Rapid direct democracy is one of them.

Decentralization will take over the world and most of it will run under the blockchain because it will be the most secure way to do so.

Decentralized voting through the internet is inevitable. Soon we'll be voting through the internet with perfectly automated and counting system of votes.

I do agree that Bitcoin may well be the most secure method. Being the first mover is a huge advantage.

Why would an entity go to the trouble of creating their own decentralised leger and take on the cost of securing it when there is a secure, global one being maintained already?
