Might be worth a look: https://moneero.comTheir other products (BTM (bitcoin vending machine), FX (a trading place?), and "social") are listed under "About Moneero" Thanks for this, very interesting. Have pushed this back out to some friends in South America and Cuba who I'm trying to convince to take Bitcoin for their travel companies.

Never really stopped to listen to Russell Brand. I'm impressed.
Hope he reads the letter.

That was hilarious; it really reminded me of The Day Today. In fact there is a good item on alternative currencies at the start of episode 5.

Tim,
Are the QR codes printed on the outside of the coin hologram? (As opposed to being under the tamper-proof hologram).
I have not registered my coins yet but from what I understand the QR code is required to transfer registration? So it would be best to keep this secret?

cypherdoc These are nice too I'm curious; and not going off topic too much, would you be able to explain what each of the coins pictured are and if they use any authentication?

Couple of questions, forgive me if they are answered but I can't see it: 1. Can one pay in bitcoin?
2. Can the ownership of the physical [Edit: two factor] bitcoins be transferred from owner to owner without needing to redeem the coin? I.e. can I sell my Titan Bitcoins on in a few years time to another owner? 3. Is there a list of which coins from the current batch(es) are in circulation? You've sold some on eBay but I was curious about how many have now sold...

... I will add if there's a block explorer with quantity info... I have posted a request here to the lead dev to get you info on a suitable blockchain explorer for I0C.

i find amir makes a bad impression at this show. also when hes right at some points he should come down and let the people talk.
This was a good airtime for Bitcoin, shame Amir's talked over everyone. Amir: watching yourself on video is a very good opportunity to see how you come across on camera. I say this as someone with ADHD who is constantly talking over people. I never realised how much I was doing it till I saw myself on video.

DNS does not require its own currency.
No, but it does require a serialization mechanism whose developers aren't actively hostile to it being used for information storage. In other words, you can't use the bitcoin blockchain for this. So if it isn't its own currency (and therefore pays no block reward) and you can't substitute the BTC blockchain, why should miners waste computing power on it? If you are going to decentralise you'll need a proof of work / proof of stake mechanism. The monetisation of proof of work such as a namecoin like system is one way to achieve this. Other proof of work systems could potentially be used too, I'd be interested to see what gets proposed.

not sure if i totally understand the implications, but does the fact that anyone can update the values means that the ownership of the domain is compromised? i would guess it's not, in the sense that once they fix the bug then the real owners of the domains can just update again to the right value (in case someone else updated their value without authorization) and no one else can change it once it's patched.
i think it's not a big deal for the owner of the domain to have to do an update after the patch rather than having to cancel all the domain registrations
Yes, the ownership of the domains is compromised - in fact they are equally owned by everyone, so if you have a domain you can steal/grab/claim any other domain at will. Well, the update I executed means that I now own the d/bitcoin domain - and tracking back trying to fix this stuff could be quite complicated. Also, namecoin is a math based currency - the math is fine, however, someone forgot to check it before trusting in it. So today namecoin is nothing but an alt coin - it is not a secure registry for key-value pairs, but it could become one in the future, once the rules are switched on. To claim domains backwards becomes inelegant, messy and calls for an authority which we are usually not in favor of... What we need is some form of proof of work system to enforce the ownership of the domains...

Thanks for sharing this info. As a non-programmer, but technical person info like this is very valuable. If it did come down to a hard fork I only see namecoin coming out a stronger in the long run. Decentralisation of DNS is a very strong proposition. ... Having developers like yourself actually looking into the code and testing the hell out of every possibility is what makes it secure...
+1

Hey guys,
Serious question here. Bitcoin has more awareness now than ever, but why aren't people like bill gates and warren buffet just buying all of the coins?
Do you ever wonder that? Like you would think they would be buying up all the coins, and the market cap would be tens of billions right now. Maybe they are going to war against Bitcoin?
A 51% attack controlled by opposition of Bitcoin would be fairly easy with the amount of resources these guys have.
Whats your opinion?
To give an analogous example; Warren Buffet famously shunned gold investment in early 2000 and plowed money into his enterprises that went on to underperformed gold over the proceeding decade. He would have been better off putting the cash into gold and not expending effort on his enterprises. I think Bitcoin does not fit most people's mental models of how finances work. But then that comes down to a discussion of how allied with 'reality' people's mental models are.
