5001  Other / Politics & Society / Re: End of Governments on: March 15, 2013, 02:05:35 PM
Security is a service, like any other, and we do not need a monopoly provider of this service. Infrastructure, even today, is mostly privately built, contracted by the governments. The "end of government" would only mean the "end of monopoly provision of security."
Begging the question. Security means that one's basic needs of food, shelter, and protection from harm are met. It is not a service. These needs can be self-provided. They can also be offered as a service at a price by an entity like a brutal dictator or even a democratically elected government, but that is a seperate issue.

I might suggest that anyone against using a democratically elected government to provide these services can choose from the other two options by moving to Somalia.
5002  Economy / Speculation / Re: Prediction: $100 by April 31st on: March 15, 2013, 01:52:39 PM
Isn't there only 30 days in April?
We all got the joke. It's analogous to Zeno's Paradox. Since we'll never get to April 31st, Bitcoin will never go up in price.
5003  Economy / Economics / Re: Wishes and Rainbow on: March 15, 2013, 01:39:04 PM
A clever conspiracy thread. I wish I had that much time on my hands. I know this is a tongue-in-cheek analysis, but given that this is created for children, I take exception to the premise of the FED's story.

The global economy has lost traction. "I can't stand this indecision, married with a lack of vision." Memes like scarcity for products ignore the fact that technology creates plenty. Creating a false scarcity of technology is the real problem, not a scarcity of resources. If we use resources wisely, there is plenty for everyone. By plenty, I mean more than can be used wisely, not simply to satisfy neurotic greed. Maybe the FED should talk to the Afghanistan poppy growers about how they produce so many.

Well anyway, sorry for the rant. Keep that delusion engine well oiled. I always look forward to your entertaining conspiracies.
5004  Other / Off-topic / Re: [POLL] Do you watch TV? on: March 15, 2013, 01:08:26 PM
I use a DVR so I don't have to waste time watching commercials. There are talented entertainers in the television industry and I enjoy their craft and trade. Storytelling is one of mankind's greatest civilization building tools. Books are fine, but they often lack the complexities of a Hollywood production. A single author's narrative can drive a point and create compelling drama, but the combined skills of talented directors, actors, artists in foley, music, editing, and photography add (if well produced) so much more. They take the meat of a story and add the ingredients to make it a gourmet meal of storytelling.
5005  Economy / Speculation / Re: Prediction: $100 by April 31st on: March 15, 2013, 12:50:35 PM
I don't get it. Why has the price stalled? There seems to be only one whale creating the large walls and no competition. This isn't the stock market. There isn't going to be another cryptocurrency to wait for. There will be no QE for Bitcoin. I am really surprised that only one person seems to have locked the price down and there is nobody else with money that understands Bitcoin. Well, I for one will keep buying small amounts at this low price little by little. It really looks like Bitcoin will be the great wealth redistribution of the 21st Century.
5006  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What Keeps You in BTC for the Long Haul? on: March 15, 2013, 05:13:22 AM
I have been a part of the struggle for many years. I have fought for worker rights even when it was dangerous. I have remained true to myself even when those around me did not share my vision. I have kept my integrity in spite of the temptations to become part of this corrupt system. I have followed many paths that were going in the right direction, but ended up going nowhere. Now I realize they were leading me to a path that has been paved by people with not only a passion for justice, but the skills to do something about it. Bitcoin is the Manhattan Project to end the war against the gobalist banksters once and for all. I may not be a rocket scientist bitcoin developer, but I can help anywhere I am needed.
5007  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: [ANN] BitSafe Hardware Wallet Now Shipping on: March 15, 2013, 02:21:11 AM
I was going to have one encrusted in gold and gems with a USB cable disguised as a gold rope chain, but I didn't have the money. ;-)
5008  Other / Off-topic / Re: XKCD - reference again on: March 14, 2013, 09:50:24 AM
IDK. I kinda read this as a reference to Satoshi Dice being the building goo problem. Maybe my bias is reading too much into this.
5009  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Unconfirmed TX on: March 14, 2013, 09:41:49 AM
Don't try a double spend with blockchain.info. You will end up sending double the amount. Just have to wait, cheapskate.  Wink
5010  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Namecoin Price Action on: March 14, 2013, 04:43:16 AM
NMC needs some serious development. I'm sure it will get some attention when Bitcoin goes mainstream.
5011  Other / Politics & Society / Re: The Hundred Dollar Bill with a twist on: March 13, 2013, 03:36:27 PM
A man walks into a hotel, puts a hundred dollar bill on the counter and says “Id like to see a room, to see if it’s suitable.”

After the man goes upstairs, the hotel owner quickly takes the hundred dollar bill and goes to pay a debt to a butcher who supplies meat to his restaurant next door.

The butcher takes the hundred dollar bill to his feed supplier and gives it to him for feed for his pigs.

The feed supplier then takes the hundred dollar bill to a hooker he’s been seeing and settles his debt with her.

The hooker owes the hotel owner money for rooms she’s been renting. She immediately goes and puts the hundred dollar bill on the counter.

The man comes downstairs and tells the clerk "Thank you for taking that money. I am from the IRS. Now I have some taxes to collect."

I like it.
Full disclosure before accusations of plagiarism; I did not write the story, but I added the twist at the end.
5012  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Poll - Who would you vote for to replace Gavin, if it was needed on: March 13, 2013, 01:22:23 PM
I would add a dark horse candidate like LukeJr.
5013  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: [ANN] BitContracts.org on: March 13, 2013, 01:12:17 PM

To be honest I don't even understand a concept of "nested investments" Smiley
A nested investment is simple. Let's say you have an 9-of-10 transaction. Within that transaction you could use some of the same keys with a 3-of-4 transaction overlapping. Giving the private key from the smaller transaction to a party with investments in the larger transaction would raise their key holdings in the larger transaction.
5014  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: [ANN] BitContracts.org on: March 13, 2013, 12:53:49 PM
I am exploring the possibilities of nesting m-of-n transactions using colored coins as trust levels for rehypothecating funds. I'm not certain about the usefulness of nLockTime other than mitigating trust levels of investment managers. If nLockTime is integral to each investment in an m-of-n transaction, then it could be used to even eliminate the need for trust altogether, leaving investors to classify their nested investments by worth. This concept makes my head explode.

Has anyone noticed you've never seen Atlas and Gavin at the same time? Geez this thread is silly.
5017  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Help end the evil practice known as DST on: March 13, 2013, 04:00:33 AM
I would like to take step further and move to one time zone. Would make global life so much easier in everyway...
Let's just get rid of clocks altogether. They are simply tools of enslavement.
5018  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: [ANN] BitSafe Hardware Wallet Now Shipping on: March 13, 2013, 03:32:22 AM
Can you explain how it works?  How do you use it?

Advantages over a mass market encrypted USB stick?

It has buttons!  Wink
5019  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: LTC is going insane! Remember when BTC was 50 cents? Well LTC is now! on: March 13, 2013, 03:26:21 AM
The two minute confirmation and high energy consumption mining are the two attributes that distinguish LTC from BTC. The former may lead to more serious blockchain forks and the latter may make it too attractive to virus mining pools. BTC may be like gold, but it's a false analogy because well, we're talking about money. Colored coins, green addresses, m-of-n transactions, and time deposits will create bitcoin derivatives. I don't know what development is being done with LTC, maybe there is more to it than I am aware.
5020  Economy / Speculation / Walls of Intimidation on: March 13, 2013, 02:21:51 AM
As a novice in the trading world, I look at trading patterns from an amateur perspective, presuming there is a professional perspective. There is something new I've seen in the last couple weeks. I am seeing large, steep sell walls. They slide back and turn to stair steps near the bottom after a steep drop. It appears that a big fish is keeping the price down by making it difficult for anyone to sell at a higher price and drive motivated sellers like miners to drop their sell orders below the wall. They can then slowly buy them up causing a wide spread. When the spread is far enough, they then sell enough to drop the price where they can buy more to add to the wall. I feel this is an intimidation tactic that will work until a bigger fish comes along, The wall can be reconstructed at a higher price until an even bigger fish comes along. Does this seem like a valid tactic? Will it lead to an escalation of bigger and bigger walls?
