5022  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: How can you verify the randomness that's coming from a hardware? on: April 27, 2022, 09:06:03 PM
fractional part of onboard temp is unique. when system board has this sensor
Sensor-based random number generators are not truly random, and gaining control over sensor is making all data coming out compromised.
This is part of PRNG or Pseudorandom number generator that is probably deterministic and it is not strong enough to be used for bitcoin seed phrases.
One proven truly random stuff  I know that can be used is radioactive decay, and some people are working to do something similar with FM radio signals.
5023  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: Gobrrrrrr on: April 27, 2022, 08:31:24 PM
Thanks for the suggestion. The pictures will change automatically to the correct picture selected enclosure. I'm a very bad photographer and need to add more and better product pictures of all the enclosures in the different colors before that'll work as intended.
Is it possible to choose color when ordering SeedSigner Kit or you are sending one color by default?
One more thing you could add is more information about privacy and what you are doing with personal data of customers (deleting it after X days or not) who order something from your website.

The LilPill is using less material and saves print time, which is reflected in the pricing.
I was wondering if it is easier to disassemble LilPill case compared to other enclosures?
5024  Other / Archival / Re: Forum no longer friendly with content from Medium on: April 27, 2022, 08:17:24 PM
You talk about the fact that copying and uploading a picture is a matter of a few seconds. Well, suppose it takes longer. Also, tell me, how many posts do you publish per week that will contain 10-15 images? Most likely 0. And I publish such posts at least 2 per week on an ongoing basis. Making such posts takes about 40 minutes, and if all the pictures are also copied and uploaded to the hosting, it will take even more time.
I don't know exactly how much images I upload per week and I won't count them, but I know that using some software like ImageUploader makes uploading multiple images much easier and faster.
I have simple solution for you - try not doing so much translations of complete articles from medium and you won't have to upload so much images Wink

5025  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Hardware recommendation on: April 27, 2022, 08:06:43 PM
i know it should have at least 16GB ram.
You can run everything just fine even with 8GB and RAM is not filled that easy, especially if you are using computer only for trading, but 16GB will be just fine.
More RAM is better but it's waste of money if you are not doing any intensive work all the time.
You will have to run wallets, apps and anything crypto related just fine.

but would love advice one Gpu, drive etc.
SSD drive is standard now, but go with Samsung brand with higher TBW.
You don't need any special GPU If you are not playing newest games, some heavy graphical work or using it for mining cryptocurrencies.
I would go with some Ryzen processor with integrated graphics, and you can always upgrade later if you want.
5026  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Are dices for generating seed words fair? on: April 27, 2022, 01:23:35 PM
Personally, while it might be something to consider, I don't think checking if your dice are weighted perfectly is something that's totally necessary. If you are going to be generating a seed with dice, then just make sure you're throwing at a different angle, and intensity every time.
This is not enough, and why would you use anything that is not fair and verified from beginning in the first place.
For truly random results you need random tools that is not dependent on your arm angle or intensity you throw them.

You want to make sure that the final key/seed you produce is not affected by any kind of bias then generate your entropy using the dice then generate another entropy using another source (easiest is using a computer RNG) and then mix the two results.
It could be a simple computation of HMACSHA256 to derive a 256 key (used as a private key or a seed to BIP39/32) where one entropy is your key and another is your message.
That is something like Trezor hardware wallet is doing, I don't like it and I think it's not good enough.
Computer RNG is not truly random, so I don't see any point in mixing random stuff with non-random, you are probably just reducing randomness.

Cool idea. But since since most people don't have 3D printer, i'll just stick to OS RNG and optionally my mouse movement.
fyi OS RNG is not generating true random result and it can be reporduced.
3d printers are very cheap today, and you can print anything locally even if you don't own one.

I'm all for paranoid security, but isn't this too much unnecessary? Even if your dice isn't perfect, and even if it throws a 6 for 20% of the time, there's no way someone is going to reproduce your results to get your private key.
I think we all saw movies and documentaries with weighted dices used for cheating, and testing if you dices are balanced is trivial job.
It's not like you have to put aluminum thin foil and fo complex math equasion to do it.

Just go buy casino dice. They are clear so you can see inside and through, and the ones that actually are used or come out of casinos have been "tested".
I wanted to order those clear dices and I found one cheap online, but than I found more information about this dice caliper.
There are some big shipping delay now from China, so I am not sure I could wait for them to arrive, but I would like to see if they are actually balanced or not.
I don't want to wait for hours waiting for computer that just can't generate true randomness that can't be reproduced.
5027  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Square is considering making a hardware wallet for Bitcoin on: April 27, 2022, 01:00:25 PM
So, do we REALLY want these people making a wallet for us?
We know they have some bad ideas as it is for how to make the wallet, now it takes them MONTHS to admit and report on a data breach.
Obviously not, but I think most of the people just don't care much about this breaches and they don't take them seriously enough unless they are affected personally.
More leaks like this happen the more I think we are much better ordering general computer components or devices like raspberry pi, and use them for cold wallets and signing devices like SeedSigner.
I think that millions of people will still use convenient solutions like Square that requires zero brain activity and thinking from your side.  Tongue

Square is a perfect hardware wallet for Homer Simpson.

5028  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Ledger Wallet Confidence? on: April 27, 2022, 12:41:09 PM
Do you think this is good move to securing my funds much better and more safe?
Imagine trusting some random chinese made device assembled by hairy french man, that spend a bunch of money for advertising, and they lie all the time that everything is being made in China.
Pair that with a fact that ledger is closed source (they lie about that also) and they could hide who knows what in those PCB coming from China.
I would not trust any device that obviously has poor quality control, battery issues are non-stop happening for model X and they can't do anything about that.
Everything you do in ledger will be recorded and sent to ledger servers and third parties, including your IP address and wallet addresses with transactions, and who knows what else.
If you are fine with all stated above, go for it, but I hope you are well aware of the risks.

Do you all have the better confidence in using these hardware wallets vs using just software?
Hardware wallets are not automatically better than software wallets, especially important part is generating seed words, that is done with closed source chips in ledger case.
It's much better to generate seed on your own secure way and use open source hardware wallets like Passport, Keystone, Bitbox or Trezor.
5029  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Any Keystone discount codes? on: April 27, 2022, 12:29:39 PM
Anybody knows any Keystone discount codes which is working?
I think that price of Keystone wallet is fair compared to other hardware wallets, considering the fact it is airgapped device.
If you are using Coingecko website and if you are collecting candies, you can get 15% discount for purchasing new Keystone wallet for 400 candies, and you can claim this only one time per user (limited offer):
https://www.coingecko.com/account/rewards/15-off-keystone-hardware-wallets

I have one more free 5% discount code for you, that I tested and it's working in keystone checkout page:
Code:
TEACHIN

PS
Keystone CEO BitcoinLixin is actually a very nice guy, so even if you don't have coinegcko account with candies you can try contacting him for more information about discounts.

5030  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Ledger Nano S Plus on: April 27, 2022, 12:09:57 PM
Based on "this video [1:14]", they're claiming the same Nano X screen is being used on the Nano S Plus, so it's probably not going to suffer from those issues, but I'm still wondering why they seem to have different qualities [not sure if something was lost in translation or this is another lie]?!
Interesting video made by ledger, and while I was watching assembling procedure for S plus device, I have to say that it's clear that everything was made in China.
Display is coming from China, and PCB is made by Shenzhen JOVE Enterprise in Shenzhen, China.
Regarding screen for this new device I saw complains from some people reporting there is clearly visible dust (maybe even hair) particles under the screen and it's impossible to clean them... so much about assembling quality of hairy workers seen in videos.
Fan fact is that ledger spent $100,000 for making of this promo videos  Roll Eyes

Here is ledger co-founder aka reddit moderator lying again:

https://www.reddit.com/r/ledgerwallet/comments/u4awq1/comment/i4ufk58/

Than he changed his story when presented with clear evidence:

https://www.reddit.com/r/ledgerwallet/comments/u4awq1/comment/i4wvkkb/

So anyone who own or purchase ledger have to trust that china didn't install some hidden back doors like they are doing with their smartphones.
Good luck with that  Cheesy
5031  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: Hardware wallet vs software wallet for daily transaction on: April 27, 2022, 11:46:22 AM
Which, is conveniently not mentioned in that image, and that is something I would consider a deal breaker, no matter what ever other benefits it has. It encourages centralisation first, and no wallet that you use should be limiting you to what services you can use. There's just no fail safe.
One more that is not mentioned is that safepal wallet and their app are sponsored and supported by Binance, and some people would say that is great news, but let's think about it.
Binance is recently kissing regulator asses much more than ever before, and it's safe to assume they are recording and reporting all addresses and transactions from safepal wallet.
They could in theory even stop or block access to safepal app and you won't be able to use wallet anymore if they connect you with any blacklisted or ''tainted'' addresses.
I would not trust seed phrase generated by safepal and I would send all coins to other wallet asap, but I could just be little paranoid about this.
5032  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: CoinJoin Alternatives to Wasabi on: April 27, 2022, 11:37:13 AM
Also, if there are any other CoinJoin services that are EASY to use (for beginners), please share!
I know some people had many complains regarding Samourai coinjoin implementation, and they are even calling it a scam, so be aware of that.
There is one more option that is in my opinion good alternative for coinjoin, it is simple to use and it's called Mercury wallet.
Mercury is open source Layer 2 Bitcoin wallet for sending and swapping bitcoin privately, and it is based on transferring of private keys with something called statechains.

Here is one interesting talk about Coinjoins and Coinswaps: Collaborative Bitcoin Transactions from Bitcoin 2022 Conference:

5033  Other / Archival / Re: Forum no longer friendly with content from Medium on: April 27, 2022, 10:59:46 AM
So you're saying Ratimov caused Medium to block Bitcointalk's image proxy? It could be they didn't mind just a few images being hotlinked, but don't like it on a massive scale.
No I am not saying that.
All I am saying is that probably nobody else is using images from Medium like this, so it would be statistical error to change anything in forum just because of him (unless he is some VIP).
Medium probably blocked some other similar websites, not just bitcointalk image proxy.
5034  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: How can you verify the randomness that's coming from a hardware? on: April 27, 2022, 10:35:43 AM
So, how do we verify that the hardware doesn't generate predictable entropy, regardless of whether the wallet developers have bad intentions or not? I don't care about the OS, let's assume you use an open-source one; my focus is on those who build the hardware that is used to generate randomness.
Last year I wrote a topic about seed generation in hardware wallets and you can find some useful information there, but true randomness is a problem for software wallets also.
I think that software wallets are even worse than hardware wallets and it doesn't really matter much if they are open source or not.
Hardware wallets are mostly using combination of several elements mixing entropy of computer and device, and some are using closed source secure element for that.
Only verifiable seed generation for hardware wallets I was able to find was for Passport, Kestone, Coldcard, Trezor and BitBox02 walllet, others are more like a black box.

One true way to be sure that seed phrase is truly random is by using properly tested casino dices, so you don't have to trust any chips or computers that create fake random results that can be reproduced.

5035  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: VanitySearch (Yet another address prefix finder) on: April 27, 2022, 10:20:27 AM
Again, the service isn't ready but at this point right now feedback is crucial as we near launch. We strive to be the definitive service in splitkey generation.
I don't think that sending private keys via email is a good option, especially when we know most people are using one email address and it's most likely gmail.
Just for fun I tested the pricing using various characters and I think price is fair (few bucks only) if I pick up to six characters, but it grows much higher adding just one more character.
I have to be honest and say that I honestly don't know why would I use 1splitkey when I can just generate my own vanity address for free with my computer.

Last year I did something similar, just for Luada's funeral:

5036  Economy / Exchanges / Re: [ANN] Bittrex - Next generation exchange (btc/ltc/eac/ppc/rdd/ftc/and more) on: April 27, 2022, 09:58:52 AM
It's only for Bitcoin.
I bet they do that voluntarily because they are big blockers and treat BTC like garbage (you can't even withdraw to a segwit address).
They could be just lazy for not supporting segwit, and they are busy listing shitcoins (according to their twitter account), but why would they do that voluntarily and shoot themselves in the foot?
After Tether/USD and some Chain shitcoin pair, Bitcoin has the biggest volume on Bittrex, and I can't find any failed bitcoin forks listed there have any significant volume.
5037  Other / Archival / Re: Forum no longer friendly with content from Medium on: April 27, 2022, 09:37:14 AM
I could allow Medium images to be hotlinked directly rather than being proxied through ip.bitcointalk.org. Medium blog owners wouldn't have access to the IP logs from this, right? Does anyone think that this would be a bad idea?
Anyone knows how many people here are actually doing something similar like Ratimov?
I don't know anyone else who is using medium images like this, and I don't think we need to change anything in forum just to make one person more comfortable Wink
He said that images showed before in forum, that means Medium made some recent changes with blocking the image proxy.

The worst part is: i usually have even more tabs open... I especially did some closing before taking a pic, leaving only the tabs i really need open
I think you have serious case of multi tab addiction sir.
People say woman are usually better in multitasking, but I guess they never examined bitcointalk members  Cheesy
5038  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Uniswap Starts Blocking Addresses Linked To 'Blocked Activities' on: April 27, 2022, 09:25:59 AM
What do you think about this Step from one of the most decentralized finance exchange UniSwap?
Uniswap or any similar cloned website were never really decentralized, so I am not surprised by this move for blocking addresses in exactly the same way like centralized exchanges are doing.
I don't know what more proof anyone needs to realize their is nothing decentralized about that, and if you dig deeper you will find more dark secrets who operates with fake dex exchange.
Only true decentralized exchange I know is Bisq, used with Bitcoin without some shady extension mask wallets like for uniswap.
5039  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: Gobrrrrrr on: April 26, 2022, 07:52:06 PM
The SeedSigner kits have been updated and can now be configured to come with any of the available enclosures. The SeedSigner Kit Sale ends with this month as well.
Looks very good!
I see that you added options to manually select enclosure, and Lil'Pill is even cheaper than OrangePill enclosure.
One suggestion I have for you is to add separate images for this three options, or it could be confusing for some newbies ordering SeedSigner Kit.
5040  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Which token has lowest transaction fees in Gate.io stock on: April 26, 2022, 07:21:40 PM
Hello, I would like to ask, which token has the lowest fees to withraw in Gate.io stock, except of Neo and Tron.
I need some token which is listed in coinbase pro and I don't want to pay high transaction fees.
You may want to check if there is enough volume for that coin you want to withdraw from Gate exchange, or you can pay much more in trading fees and wait longer than usual.
I would also suggest that you move everything from Gate to FTX and you will have free or much lower withdrawals for most coins, including Bitcoin.
It looks like withdrawal of NEO coin is free from Coingate, but both FTX or Coinbase are not supporting it.
