5021  Other / Meta / Re: Is it possible to break the Alt Forum into sub categories? on: June 30, 2014, 01:29:36 PM
It would be pretty pointless. All the altcoin spam would just leak out to the main boards.
I disagree. It was only a matter of time before the number of altcoin posts outside the altcoin section dropped off dramatically after we became ruthless with moving the threads to the altcoin section, and I expect the same would happen with them being removed and only a dedicated altcoin forum (there are a few already) would accept them. So I'd expect a few months of outrage and noise followed by an eventual quietening down of the whole forum.
I guess that's a good point. Of course, we would lose quite the percantage of the user base, however that would reduce the amount of spam.

Is it possible to forbid altcoin discussions/topics and delete the altcoins categories from this forum ?
If theymos wanted, yes.
5022  Other / Meta / Re: Is it possible to break the Alt Forum into sub categories? on: June 30, 2014, 12:02:25 PM

Why don't we just purge this forum of all Alt coin forums and focus on Bitcoin related information?

Let them start their own forum.

Just a thought?
Not the first time it's been suggested and you already have the support of the vast majority of the forum mods.

5023  Other / Meta / Re: why was jimmi12 banned? illuminati on: June 27, 2014, 04:54:22 PM
I nuked (banned) your "friend" since not only you were selling illegal goods but also disrupting the operation of this forum by stealing accounts.
5024  Other / Meta / Re: Browsing Politics and Off-topic forums: Is it just me or... on: June 26, 2014, 12:46:06 PM
Bitcoin is based on cryptography which ensures digital data security. Thus people interested in it usually know more about technology than the average citizen. Those who have more knowledge about technology often notice more of it's flaws and possible exploits.

Aside from that, cryptography, being a security measure in a way, attracts more paranoic, sometimes even the so called delusional "conspiracy theorists" (although let's not forget that it attracts normal people too). Add the paranoic crowd + the tech (and other) flaws and you get the topics mostly discussed in your mentioned sections.

That doesn't explain dank.
He's one of a kind Cheesy . Maybe got here on random when he didn't have anything to do.
5025  Other / Meta / Re: Topic moved on: June 25, 2014, 06:32:42 PM
Close the promotion thread in Games and rounds and open up a new thread (if you don't already have one) in the Gambling board. Moving the existing thread to Gambling would transfer all the giveaway entry posts which would be considered spam not in the Games and rounds subforum.
5026  Other / Meta / Re: About selling accounts on: June 25, 2014, 06:29:34 PM
AFAIK, the only reason because selling accounts isn't illegal is that you cannot really avoid that.

In a similar way, I think that a mandatory notification cannot be imposed so it would probably be useless.

This 100%. If a notification system would be possible to enforce, we could just outright ban multiple accounts and account selling.

5028  Other / Meta / Re: What kind of topics do exactly belong to Beginners and Help section? on: June 22, 2014, 01:23:03 PM
It's a section where new members can ask questions that usually can be answered by most seasoned bitcoiners and where newbies can find threads informing them of Bitcoin (one being the stickied README). If the question is more advanced and fits in another section, it's best it be there. Other threads such as announcements belong in other sections.
5029  Other / Meta / Re: HOW TO PROTECT MY ACCOUNT FROM HACKER ? on: June 22, 2014, 11:36:43 AM
Use a unique (not used in any other site) long (12 or more characters) password with numbers, letters and special characters. Log in using secure methods such as your home computer, tablet or phone; avoid internet cafes, library computers or public open Wi-Fi. I no longer trust SSL to securely encrypt data sent through unprotected streams.

Send a message to a user who wouldn't delete it with your Bitcoin address. Theymos (the admin) suggested sending it to the user DefaultTrust and recording the PM's ID which can be seen in the link of the message in the Outbox section of "MY MESSAGES".

Because limiting posts will be useless, people will just use multiple accounts. There's already multiple prime dice participants asking about whether the forum allows multiple accounts for their "friends". Convenient timing eh?

Bear brought up a legit point there will just be more multi accounts at play since it is allowed in the rules of the forum.

Allowed or not, it's a big hassle to create multiple accounts and grind up the activity to Member+. Takes months. Either that, or deal with account traders who, by the nature of account selling, have negative reputation. I imagine having a post limit would actually do a lot.
Buying accounts is a quite lucrative option actually. People just use a trusted escrow and the Trust rating of the seller doesn't matter this way.

Doesn't it matter insofar as the account being sold could be recovered by the account seller? All he would have to do is post a bitcoin address, sell the account, claim hack, then recover it.
The recovery process is pretty long though. Some accounts never get recovered at all so the chances aren't that high.

5032  Other / Meta / Re: Exporting data from the forum (trust network) on: June 21, 2014, 07:09:58 PM
The only possible way would be to add user1 to your trust list, then in the Trust settings page, bellow the text Trust network and Full you will see the people he trusts and the people his trusted people trust and so on. Then remove user1 and add user2, and so on. Hovever, be weary: the forum allows only one request per second. If you abuse it, you're IP will get banned. This was a problem for Bitcointa.lk as well.
5033  Other / Meta / Re: warning PM from someone asking you to download a game on: June 19, 2014, 10:14:13 AM
If I recall correctly, there have been another attack of PMs for another game which provided a link to malware.
The site admin had to remove almost 17000 PM!
One too many zeros. It was 1700 PMs

I deleted all of the PMs. There were about 1700 of them.

You should always report spam PMs. You won't be banned for inaccuracy.
5034  Other / Meta / Re: How can we stop trolling ? on: June 18, 2014, 03:20:18 PM
If he is actually obviously trolling, just report the post. Trolling is not allowed in these forums.

Reported it too. There were 1700 messages or accounts ?
Probably messages. He didn't mention accounts in the post, did he?

Yes, multiple (sockpuppet) accounts are allowed.

EDIT - I just changed my BTC wallet address to my Coinbase wallet instead.
I reccommend you delete this post and make a new one. Stunna doesn't accept edited sign up posts and simply won't pay you.
5039  Other / Meta / Re: Phishing link on: June 12, 2014, 12:46:20 PM
Best not be trolling when mprep come through. Putting down at least 4 a day
Don't worry: many of them were bots or returning spammers. Besides when I spend a lot of time here, you have to employ the nuke sometimes. Cheesy
5040  Other / Meta / Re: Ban request on: June 11, 2014, 05:54:42 PM
Try PMing the admin theymos and describe the situation.

Isn't this mods' job? I don't want to bother theymos about every annoying user...

Not all the mods have the ability to ban others - only global mods (although newbies can be banned by more mods). If none have acted after you reported him, then contacting theymos might be the only way. You could try PMing BadBear, malevolent or other global mods.
