Coinbase is outta coins again.
5062  Other / Off-topic / Re: The fair layoff on: March 01, 2013, 09:01:42 PM
Ah, good old intimidation. Reminds me of the old days with the Teamster type Unions. Many a scab had been show the error of their ways.
5063  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Trendon Shavers - A Free Contribution on: March 01, 2013, 08:08:56 PM
Not according to Money Magazine. McKinney, TX is the #2 best city to live in America.
they've obviously never been there...
You are probably thinking of Plano.
5064  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Trendon Shavers - A Free Contribution on: March 01, 2013, 07:53:58 PM
this is very interesting.  The funny thing is that I know these places.  I used to live near Midland, TX.  It is a shit-hole of a town, really.  I'm not surprised this guy is in McKinney, TX.  Seriously, you don't want to visit.

5065  Economy / Service Discussion / ***BEWARE*** of OKpay on: March 01, 2013, 07:38:33 PM
There is a problem with US citizens getting an OKPAY debit card. They no longer accept a copy of a driver's license. After sending copies of my bank statement, electric bill, cable bill, and CDL, it still isn't enough verification to authorize a debit card. They now want me to illegally make a copy of a passport. Even if my passport was not currently expired, I would not send a color copy as they request. Smells like scam. I'm only out two BTC, but feel a heads up is in order.
5066  Economy / Economics / Re: I think the concept of saving has been lost with this generation. on: February 27, 2013, 05:22:45 PM
I hear people using terms like hoarding, trading, investing etc. Bulls and Bears argue about who predicted the latest rally or trap. A recent thread boasted about selling Bitcoins to buy a new car. I mentioned that I would have financed the vehicle with a low interest rate over years because Bitcoin's ROI outperforms everything. Somehow, I just think that there is a generation that wants everything now and doesn't really think long term.

You would borrowing money to buy a depreciating asset?  The average depreciation for a car is 15% a year.  That is like borrowing money in USD and holding it when it has an inflation rate of 15% a year.
I can think of a lot of things that have a better than 15% ROI. Dumping liquidity on a car is a poor investment. In fact, leasing a car is probably a much better idea. In the case of Bitcoin, it's like throwing away three cars for the price of one when we are seeing a 300% or higher performance every year.
5067  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: If bitcoins become massive, what is a good amount to have? on: February 27, 2013, 04:47:21 PM
Moar. My plan is to keep buying what I can afford until I no longer need to. Then I will quit my day job. Bitcoin cannot fail unless either the laws of mathematics or human nature change.
5068  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Anyone got the XRP? (Ripple Giveaway) on: February 26, 2013, 12:13:47 AM
I don't "have" any XRP. I have an online wallet at Ripple.com that has some XRP. I don't think much of online wallets.
5069  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The best new Bitcoin PROJECT from China! (Tablets and BITCOINS) on: February 25, 2013, 11:57:27 PM
This was a cool thread. Is any of this beyond the vaporware stage?
5070  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Predictions on: February 25, 2013, 11:46:55 PM
I foresee that in the coming years of hyperinflation (FED has produced 3x times of money in a very short time, they will pour out soon), there will be more merchants claim that "we only accept bitcoin"  Cheesy

Do you see it happening before 2015?
I could see online merchants switching away from credit card to Bitcoin only transactions starting in 2013. I can see Brick and Mortar start doing so in 2015. Apps will need improvement for online usage, then physical wallet devices will need to roll out before making Brick and Mortar purchases popular with Bitcoin.
5071  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: Coineer - The Bitcoin Magazine 2nd Issue Is Now Available on: February 25, 2013, 11:22:29 PM

Where she go? Is she defunct?

The website is still there. Let's just hope it is just a hiatus. Bitcoin will need more than one publication before too long. I would guess that Coineer may be looking for a niche since the other publication is still going strong. Volunteer organizations always schism. That is simply a fact of life. Coineer should simply wait patiently for the opportunity to find opposition to Bitcoin Magazine. There are plenty of ways to do that. In fact, the Editor-in-Chief has already left Bitcoin Magazine and probably won't be the last.
5072  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Selling 50k XRP, 1.5 BTC on: February 25, 2013, 11:06:14 PM
I will offer 1 NMC
5073  Economy / Economics / Re: I think the concept of saving has been lost with this generation. on: February 25, 2013, 10:43:50 PM
It's about taking responsibility for your actions and having a reliable place to save the money rewarded for your hard work.

Nobody ever got rich through hard work alone.  Making money is all about controlling capital. Money is poorly correlated with work.  Why does a quantitative analyst earn 10 times the salary of a physics professor, even when they have similar skills, and even when a physics professor's job is 10 times more intellectually demanding? It's because the quantitative analyst controls a huge amount of capital and the physics professor almost none.

It has always been like this, but this generation is more aware of it. If you have a friend who makes easy money in finance, real estate, or whatever the next bubble is going to be, then you are going to think, why should I bother working my ass off as a teacher so that I can save $200 a month?  I want to have a good life too. Fuck the future.

The fact that savers are being punished by governments and debtors rewarded aggravates the situation even more.

This is the fallacy of special pleading. We are living in a unique time in history when scammers are able to bilk fortunes without penalty. It has not always been like this, in fact, it hasn't been like this since the Robber Baron age of the 19th Century. After we start punishing the thieves that caused the economic collapse, we'll need a currency that brings balance back to the economy.

I'm not saying that capitalists cannot get rich with executive skills. I'm just saying that people should be able to save liquid assets like money as a store of value. In fact, banks themselves should be incentivized to pay compounded interest through the privilege of Bitcoin deposits if they earn the trust of depositors.

Bubble economics is the sign of the end of a civilization. Enjoy it while you can, but what will your skill set be when it is gone? What place in society will you have? None in mine.
5074  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Bitcoin business card design contest on: February 25, 2013, 10:29:23 PM
We need a contest for an introduction to Bitcoin on a cheap business card. I'm so tired of trying to explain Bitcoin to people. I just want a big stack of cheap business cards I can just hand out. Ideas?
5075  Economy / Speculation / Re: Prediction: $100 by April 31st on: February 22, 2013, 04:59:08 PM
I'm not sure if we are geometric or exponential yet. Is the user base really growing, or are the current users doubling down?
5076  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin will never reach $30 again on: February 22, 2013, 04:55:51 PM
There also is the psycology about the price now, as there was as we approached 30 a few days ago.

I can't imagine that anyone caught in the last crash are still in it for the money so close to their break even price. Nither anyone new buying the last few days for the first time is going to cash out after a 3 Dollar rise.

The last category: The ones that didn't loose enough in 2011 to want to get completely out of Bitcoin or are in it, because they "believe" know that we need to get above our last all time high, and stay there if Bitcoin is going to survive.

Another crash now, even for only a few days, would make headlines and start the Bitcoin FUD articles all over again. There is no coming back a third time.
Meh, Bitcoin doesn't care what you think. It is a decentralized distributed network. It will come back again, and again, and again. Then more people will have a chance to become early adopters. That is, unless Ripple... nevermind.
5077  Economy / Speculation / Re: Online gambling legalized in Nevada on: February 22, 2013, 04:50:57 PM
The "regulated sites" won't have provably fair technology.
5078  Economy / Speculation / Re: [Poll] Where are we in the Investor's Emotion Cycle? on: February 22, 2013, 04:48:29 PM
You might want to add raging chainsaw mania to the list.
5079  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin will never reach $30 again (let us hope) on: February 22, 2013, 04:45:54 PM
Let us hope Bitcoin never reaches $30 again.
5080  Economy / Speculation / Online gambling legalized in Nevada on: February 22, 2013, 12:17:29 PM
What auspicious timing. As Bitcoin price is skyrocketing it has been announced that Nevada will open up online gambling again. The biggest complaint against this form of entertainment has been the length of time it takes to cash out. Does anyone know why this is? Will Bitcoin offer a solution to licensed casinos or remain in the shadows as play money? This could make or break bitcoin gambling.
