5141  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: south africa has launched a SMS service to send bitcoin without internet on: September 01, 2022, 05:31:13 AM
While it may not be perfect, it seems like they’re doing what is necessary to help spread adoption which could really benefit these people in the future. I doubt sms will be a widely used way to send Bitcoin but if it helps then now then it seems like a pretty awesome project.
5142  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Saylor steps down as Microstrategy CEO on: September 01, 2022, 04:48:38 AM
Guess he knew this was coming: https://twitter.com/AGKarlRacine/status/1565031380471382019

Quote
NEW: Today, we’re suing Michael Saylor - a billionaire tech executive who has lived in the District for more than a decade but has never paid any DC income taxes - for tax fraud.

Going to be interesting to see how this all plays out. Settle it? Fight it out in court? Something else?

I have no idea on how legit it really is and what may or may not be true, but I can see it creating a shitstorm for Microstrategy in general. Having him out as CEO can show they were beginning to clean house.

-Dave

They absolutely knew this was coming- Saylor, et al.  Removing him from his post was a preemptive strike that they hope will buy the company some goodwill down the line- this situation and also for the appearance of creating distance.

It is beginning to look that way. I’m sure when investigators started sniffing around and disturbing business operations they decided to remove Saylor as a distraction. It seems like we’ve seen a lot less of him since then so maybe he’s laying low or celebrating his freedom.
5143  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2023 NBA Season on: September 01, 2022, 02:01:05 AM
That's right, actually even if Westbrook were struggling last season but as long as AD were healthy, most likely Lakers will still have a shot in the NBA finals. With Lebron and AD leading the team, we've seen that before already when they won a championship.

That makes sense and I'm with it. Yes, we can't hide the fact that Westbrook is struggling but we can't really just point that as a reason why Los Angeles Lakers suffers last season. Anthony Davis is consistent but the problem is, he becomes soft. How many games did he just play last season? LeBron James is also being sidelined for several games and that's understandable. Their bench is not even deep and all their supporting cast are not consistent. Westbrook can't carry anymore a team as he did in OKC. Can't be compared too to the capability of LeBron carrying a team.

That's why I believed trading Westbrook won't be the key to saving the Lakers from being sh*t last season.

Today's rumor is that they're trying to find a trading partner in the Spurs to take Westbrook off their hands.  The Lakers seem prepared to eat his salary and cut him if they can't find a place to dump him and are even willing to package picks to make it happen.  I'm sure there's an owner around the league somewhere who is willing to pay $40 million for 2 draft picks or a trade they can get into.  We'll find out who soon I suspect.
5144  Economy / Speculation / Re: Will the Mt. Gox coins affect Bitcoin’s price in August? on: September 01, 2022, 12:52:44 AM
So its pretty much end of August and so far nothing I heard about the distribution of the coins. Anyone a creditor who has some insider information on exactly when this distribution should start?

A new email just went out a few minutes ago to creditors.  It says that there is a start date for assignment of 9/15 so your guess is as good as mine if that's when they'll start making payments or if that's when they'll finalize claims.  I still haven't been asked if I wanted early payout or to wait for the maximum amount, so I wouldn't expect payouts to begin yet.  There is movement though so it is looking like there will be a distribution of some sorts in the coming months.
5145  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Looking for the best cooling deal on: September 01, 2022, 12:22:53 AM
I'm also on team open-frame.  Those test cases or cheap hanging setups will keep heat from building up around the card, which can happen in enclosed cases.  Things like fans dying can also be catastrophic for GPUs stuck in a hot case.  The only time I'd think enclosed cases would be better is if you were trying to keep the room they were in cool and remove the heat with special ducting or something.
5146  Economy / Speculation / Re: BTC Monthly Chart Closes Tomorrow. It’s UGLY on: September 01, 2022, 12:17:10 AM
It could have been a lot worse.  We're still comfortably above the lows as we approach the time we'd typically see a bottom in the 4-year cycle.  Regardless of how ugly things may appear, I believe people would be wise to start accumulating and dollar cost averaging back into the market if you've been on the sidelines or got out at higher levels.  I think in another couple months the upward march will begin anew.
5147  Economy / Collectibles / Re: Prices for casascius bitcoin good? on: August 31, 2022, 04:43:01 AM
How do you not know what year it’s from? I’d think if it’s in your possession you’d be able to tell by looking at the other side. That’s a bit of a red flag for me unless I’m misunderstanding something. If you do have it, I would definitely ask for more than 1.05 BTC for it.
5148  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Where to hodl Ethereums? (ETH MERGE) on: August 31, 2022, 03:19:40 AM
Obviously holding onto your coins in your own wallet where you are the sole holder of your keys is the best idea. I don’t think any exchange can be certain what will happen or how they will react yet. If you want to make sure you will definitely have whatever forked coins pop up after the merge, you should own the keys holding your coins.
5149  Economy / Speculation / Re: I've been confused in BTC on: August 30, 2022, 11:34:04 PM
I am very disappointed with the state of Bitcoin in the current market. Because last week its price was 24000 dollars but now it shows 21 thousand dollars. I want to know from you, is the price of Bitcoin likely to fall further?

If there's one thing you can rely on when it comes to the price of Bitcoin, it is that it will continue to be volatile.  That means it will both be higher and lower than it is today.  Traders use this volatility to make money.  It will likely be a long time before cryptocurrencies see stability, as it is attempting to be a new asset class.  It's not for the faint of heart.
5150  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2023 NBA Season on: August 30, 2022, 11:21:02 PM
Latest I see in the trade is that free agent Markieff Morris has agreed with the Nets,  it's a one year deal so for good him.

That is a good pickup for the Nets.  He adds some much needed toughness out there with Ben, Kyrie, & KD.  I'd like to see the Nets pickup Dwight Howard too and I think they'd have a pretty solid unit.  Whiteside is another big man still without a home who I think has a lot left to give.  We'll probably see a few more free agent signings by the Nets over the next couple of weeks as we get ready to start the season.
5151  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Does staking even make any sense on: August 30, 2022, 10:40:28 PM
A 9.5% return is pretty crazy high. Most of the invested money in the world is seeing dividends of less than 1/3 that. If you have lots of money and want a return, 9.5% is great. I fear that kids learning to invest in crypto are going to have some messed up expectations vs reality when it comes to real returns.
5152  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: The best of RX vega on: August 30, 2022, 10:36:41 PM
That is a great card to mine with. Personally, I think the way to do it is to mine Ethereum with it on NiceHash and get paid in Bitcoin. That way you’re basically mining BTC with a GPU. You also get to avoid all the hassles that come with mining ETH directly, which for impatient folks can be a lot to deal with.
5153  Economy / Speculation / Re: Will Bitcoin hit 2022 low again? on: August 30, 2022, 10:11:25 PM
I voted yes. I think in order for a strong base to be built you need a retest. It’s healthy for the market and helps clear out leverage. With the ETH2 unlock and the gox coins hitting the market, it would be pretty crazy for the bottom not to be retested. Unless a spot ETF gets approved in the next couple weeks, I think retesting the recent lows is inevitable.
5154  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Boxing Speculation, Odds and Predictions on: August 30, 2022, 08:59:43 PM
Jake Paul has announced his next opponent is Anderson Silva. I think Jake might have but off a little more than he can chew this time. Sure, Silva is damn near 50 years old, but he’s got power that Jake hasn’t seen before. I like this fight. I’d rather have seen him fight Andrew Tate, but this was unexpected and a nice surprise.
5155  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Are miners going to attack before the merge? on: August 30, 2022, 07:33:13 AM
Is there a way miners agree to coordinate an attack on the network?

I think the attack will be in the form of continuing ETH_PoW in the form of a new forked coin.  This will likely cause all sorts of chaos with NFTs and the like, which should be entertaining as long as you are safe.  With so much hashrate it seems certain that ETH_PoW will continue on, but we'll see.  I'm excited to see how things play out and if I get some free forked coins out of it and can still mine profitably with my GPUs, all the better.  Smiley
5156  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: CME launches Bitcoin Euro Denominated futures on: August 30, 2022, 07:02:24 AM
What are your thoughts about this? I saw online there are some people who are telling that it's no effect at all because they said, there are a lot of manipulations on Futures markets.

I'm sure it must have some effect or they wouldn't bother offering it.  It seems like a natural progression of the market though.  A good sign that they're continuing to offer more services instead of closing up the ones they have.  I doubt it will enable more manipulation, but would assume the more access investors have to things like this, the more stability it offers as a result.
5157  Economy / Speculation / Re: Dormant Bitcoin Addresses on the move on: August 30, 2022, 07:00:20 AM
It is interesting and appears to be more than a coincidence.  I think it's likely the result of higher prices enticing people out of their stash though.  I'm not sure if you can really trade on something like this, but it's good to be able to know when some people with a lot of skin in the game start looking for the exits.  Another piece of data to take into account.
5158  Economy / Collectibles / Re: Crypto Great Dane goes worldwide- New physical bitcoin youtube channel on: August 30, 2022, 06:10:06 AM
I want to thank everyone for the support. After i posted i wasnt sure if i was going to delete them or keep making them. Its been great to hear so much positive feedback. I plan on making many more videos. If you're a coinmaker i will definitely reach out to you prior to your video to see if you want to be involved. For most of the members of this forum these videos are elementary, but for the rest of the world a resource that hopefully brings them into our world.
Thanks to all, look for the Lealana video this week
Dane

I just got around to checking out the videos.  Was surprised to hear my name (it's actually Og like "aug" and not O.G.) so thanks for the shout out!  Videos like this are great and there aren't enough bitcointalk content creators.  I'm sure we'd all love to see you grow a community and improve your videos over time.  It's great hearing names of folks here in a different format and see some of the goods offered here.
5159  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: NFT WORTH WITH SUCCESS? on: August 29, 2022, 08:16:51 PM
DEAR COMMUNITY I HAVE SOME QUESTION ABOUT NFT.
WHAT IS WAY TO MAKE OURSELF AS NFT EXPORT/ WHERE I CAN SELL NFT WITH DIFFERIANTE WAY/ HOW I MADE AWESOME NFT/ WHICH NFT HAVE WORTH(SIMPLE,3D,ANIMATION)HuhHuhHuh

A big thing right now seems to be using your NFT as your avatar in the metaverse.  You see projects like Bored Ape Yacht Club and People of Crypto making their NFTs avatars for use in the Sandbox metaverse, which is doing their Alpha Season 3 currently where you can use these avatars in the metaverse.  There are others following suit as well, but generally I think that NFTs created as voxel art and that are able to be used in 3d environments are going to be popular in the near future as these metaverses start opening up to the public and becoming operational.
5160  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Christian and politics on: August 29, 2022, 08:14:52 PM
Is it a good idea for Christians to get involved in politics, because if they are involved in it, they tend to lie, make promises they can't fulfill and sometimes get their hands dirty which is sin.

And ministers of the Gospel, are they suppose to endorse any candidate to their congregants. What's your take?

My take is that it's pretty foolish to lump any category of people into a certain behavior.  Granted this is sort of what politics has come to, us vs them, but it's no less dumb.  Everyone is different.  Some Christians lie, some Christians don't.  I don't think there's anything exclusive to Christianity that makes it's followers more likely to lie than other religions, so I find your thread a bit emotional and stemming from your personal experience more than a broad overview of people.
