Very unknown but great movie: The Man From Earth
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0756683/

Not very unknown, that movie was a blockbuster in the interwebs.

Let's say that each human is like a computer and that God, the creator of all "software"  could "download" information or an "update" into each of us when we personally asked Him to.  Then we would be able to "know" more things then the person next to us that has not asked for that.

In a way it is like that with spiritual things.  1Corinthians 12:8 "To one there is given through the Spirit a message of wisdom, to another a message of knowledge by means of the same Spirit"

So perhaps our claims of "understanding things" is true?

Of course there are people that are prideful and bragging that they know it all and this is not right as seen in this verse:
1 Corinthians 13:2  If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing.

'll give you a 9 out of 10 for creativity.

Unfortunately, in the real world it's a bit too convenient for those who have had the software downloaded to them.  Or those who "claim" to have, I should say.  Pretty much anyone could make the claim couldn't they and there would be no way to prove them wrong?

Yeah, not so much for creativity, she pretty much described The Matrix...

And why aren't people "downloading" the cure for cancer?

I thought the Matrix had some real truths to it!  So does Plato's Allegory of the Cave, which is a similar concept to the matrix.

As for "downloading" a cure for cancer, I have prayed for someone with stage 4 Lung cancer and they were healed.  I prayed for another person with stage 3 pancreatic cancer and they say they cannot find cancer in his body now.  I believe that God can and still does miracles in our lives.  They seem to happen more when people pray.  Is that just a coincidence or do coincidences happen more often when God is involved?

Why don't you pray for amputees?
5165  Other / Off-topic / Re: Which operating system(s) do you use? (Poll) on: November 03, 2013, 10:58:44 PM
This is very interesting data so far, and I almost want to believe it's not right, but currently the most popular OS for bitcointalk.org is Linux. This tells me that the bitcoin community very much still geeky. Consider that in the general population Linux is only on about 1.6% of desktops according to Wikipedia
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Usage_share_of_operating_systems

Yes, I would assume that a substantial percentage of bitcoiners in this forum use Linux.

Maybe so, maybe so.

Spikes over 20 TH in the last hour.  Sam is up to something.

Nearly 300,000 shares just made public. This for me was the tipping point. I considered labcoin a gamble but it is more than an epic fail. I predict a small increase in hashrate so those newly public shares can be sold off for top dollar.

Seems the most probable scenario.

Only if he could communicate with us somehow... Cheesy

Tell me again how you came into existence from nothing?

Here you go: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Argument_from_ignorance

Wait a minute, what if I imagine that there is no god in any of the universes, if I can imagine such a thing then it must exist in some sense right.

Lol I don't think a hardfork is going to save us in this situation. But in all seriousness it could mean god is both existent and non-existent at the same time. Quantum superposition.

It's the Schrödinger's god. Cheesy

Yes, the site is down quite a lot of times, you should save the phone numbers somewhere if you don't have them memorized in your phone.
5173  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Computer Scientists Prove God Exists on: November 03, 2013, 05:17:36 PM
Another way to think of God is to understand it as a process of resolution of a logical paradox, which arises from the statement "all powerful".

If God is all powerful, then he must be able to create a condition, where it would begin facing limits of its power.

The paradox is then in the fact, that in both cases the statement leads to contradiction.
If God cannot create that condition, then he is not all powerful.
If he can, then he will begin facing limits of its power.

I believe existence is the momentum of this paradox. It was never created, but it can never settle.

That's because the people who invented an "all powerful god" didn't put much thought in it.
5174  Economy / Securities / Re: Verification on weexchange.co on: November 03, 2013, 05:14:46 PM
I had no problems with my verification process and it took only 3 days.

In your Profile -> Contact Info did you put the address as it appears in the documents?
5175  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: No mining hardware is worth buying on: November 03, 2013, 02:18:28 PM
There is, just wait until the ASIC war is over and the difficulty stay the same Smiley

True, might happen next year (late probably).

Worth the wait, the 1 TH miners will cost like GPU

It will never ROI

what everyone seems to forget is that for the diff to double from here it requires 4000 1T machines. Its not going to happen as fast as most people thinks

BFL alone estimates they can make 1000 Monarchs/day. So could happen in just one week sometimes early next year Smiley

BFL estimates are usually very accurate...

5177  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Does Anyone Else Believe In Jesus Christ ? on: November 02, 2013, 11:28:32 PM
Look, a 'need for myth' must be stronger than a need for rationality, or perhaps both coexist in any individual human at differing or the same times, or perhaps the exist to differing degrees in different humans.

I guess what I was saying is that the assertion that 'we don't need myth' may actually be false, then the person who is inclined to need it finds it nonetheless when he or she rejects religion.  They find it in government, or in science, or who knows where.  They become radical ecology freaks worried about the End of Gaia as we Know it, the Apocalpse of Doom, the hurricanes, the 20 foot high wall of water that is coming for us.

Some of them, you know they'd be less annoying if they'd just stuck with religion instead of 'progressing'....

Humans are of byzantine complexity, and can be one thing at one moment and seem to be something completely different the next.  The religion of Atheism nonwithstanding...I suggest then that you can only be truly free if you reject, along with the traditional religions, the religion of Atheism and other modern progressive delusions.

You seem to be confused about atheism. Atheism is not a religion in the same way not believing in unicorns is not a religion or not collecting stamps is not a hobby, there are atheistic religions like Buddhism, but atheism in itself is not a religion....
It certainly can be a religion, believed in with faith that it is true, by devout and pius true believers.

In fact, it necessarily has it's origins in systems of belief.  Leaving aside that you could have no atheism without religion, atheism in the days before microscopes could only exist on faith.

"I can't prove it but I just KNOW there is no spontaneous creation!!!  It can't be that spirits go into matter and make it come alive!"

That's faith and belief if it ever was.

And you're also confused about how the burden of proof works...

Here you go: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scientific_burden_of_evidence
5178  Other / Off-topic / Re: Which operating system(s) do you use? on: November 02, 2013, 11:23:32 PM
Windows kernel works on every machine, even older ones.

Linux distros hiccup on less known/old hardware.

In the recent year I had two cases where Linux falls flat on unknown hardware.
But it's free of course, for some it's hard to beat.

That's because the vast majority of manufacturers only support Windows...
5179  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Documentary on Bitcoin - Summary Thread (+ intellectual goodies) on: November 02, 2013, 11:14:21 PM
thanks to Zangelbert for this interesting video:
Balaji Srinivasan at Startup School 2013 sharing an interesting theory about the coming future.
His talk isn't mainly about bitcoin but about how future technology can change society and its country as a whole.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cOubCHLXT6A

So what do you guys think: is the idea of a "peaceful revolution and shift of power back to the people through use of sound money" viable? What needs to be done to make it possible?

Absolutely. The Internet has been a peaceful revolution on centralized media so far, despite Hollywood and old media throwing a fit and trying some legal shenanigans. These decentralized, anti-fragile systems simply hollow the establishment structures out little by little, without much fanfare.

Bitcoin will incite a much bigger reaction because banks are bigger than media, but there's not a lot that can really be done. No wars will work; centralized power just cannot beat decentralized power. It's too late now anyway, the big-time nerds are jumping aboard the ship:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cOubCHLXT6A

Amazing talk!
5180  Economy / Gambling / Re: [ANN] BitsPoker - Play Free Bitcoin Poker | Hourly Freerolls | No Min. Deposit! on: November 02, 2013, 10:34:53 PM
Just logged in and there doesn't seem to be a freeroll. Has anything changed?

No more freerolls available?

We're new and in an experimental stage with the freerolls at this moment. One of the experiments was offering the freerolls as a way to bring activity to the site, but the result of that experiment wasn't good on any level, so we turned them off for a little while. Now we've put up an hourly 1 chip winner take all freeroll. Before, it was a bankroll builder type of thing, this one is more for players who want to try the software for free, now they have a tournament they can do so with. I guess if players want to try to make a living off of it, they can attempt that as well.
