Interesting theory. I have a follow up question though. Say the US of A decided to ditch banks move to Bitcoin. How do you do that the "right" way? Or at least, what is your right way to make such a transition?
This has been discussed many times. Personally, I would trade some of my Bitcoin wealth for land in Malibu, though it would probably only buy a parking space for an RV.

"Governments will love Bitcoin and stuff."

"But how?"

"This has been discussed many times."

WTF?! Then why start a thread if you don't want to actually discuss the OP topic?
The OP was not about how governments would adopt Bitcoin. It was about why they would replace central banks with Bitcoin. The how is easy. They can mine and trade Bitcoin just like the rest of us. There's not much to discuss about that. The real issue that needs discussion is convincing governments why they should embrace Bitcoin for future peace and prosperity.

Is the double-L silent? How do you pronounce Bitllionaire?

This will be a homing beacon for grifters.

America never invited the central banks. They romanced their way in to governments by wooing them with pretty songs about fiscal responsibility and their expertise. Sure, they gave America herpes, but the country grew and every other country had the same financial virus.

Now they are old, bitter, and greedy elitist institutions. The herpes has become shingles and is painful to everyone. Governments don't know how to get rid of the virus of central banks. The central bank disease always kills its host, until now.

Bitcoin is the cure to Central Bank Disease. Governments can finally have the fiscal responsibility of this beautiful new bride that is disease-free.

What is this post about? Is there a link?
5168  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Why I am not scared of secret societies... on: February 04, 2013, 03:14:31 PM
The competition aspect is valid. This is also why I don't fear any nation dominating and attacking the the Bitcoin network. Competition breeds evolution, but also leads to extinction. Bitcoin is the ultimate competition game. Bitcoin is the final battlefield of global domination. Bitcoin will teach us that imaginary things like invisible money, invisible gods, and invisible ideas are not worth killing ourselves over. Secret societies, covert operations, and cool-war stategies fail everyone in the end.
5169  Economy / Speculation / Re: What happens when bitcoin's market cap hits $1B? on: February 04, 2013, 04:58:57 AM
A $1B enterprise barely makes a news story anymore. If Bitcoin is truly to be a global phenomenon, it will need to surpass that. Wait for it... wait for it...

I've heard Falkvinge won big on such a move.

Grin Took the words right out of my mouth.

Where was that "WHY I AM PUTTING ALL MY MONEY AND ALL I CAN BORROW INTO BITCOIN" again? IIRC I read it on the day of the 32 USD peak.
That doesn't mean you have to put it all in at one time. If you had started on that day and invested evenly over the next year, you would be way ahead today.
5171  Other / Politics & Society / Re: MSNBC Video Edit on: February 02, 2013, 02:50:44 PM
This is why we need to bring back the fairness doctrine, so these news channels (btw, the word news is nowhere in the name MSNBC nor any of their programs) are required to have ethics.
5172  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Live debate tonight 7PM GMT - Gavin Andresen will be there on: February 02, 2013, 01:24:32 PM
The reasons democracy (liquid or not) will not scale:
1. group think (arbitrary priorities)
2. greed
3. apathy
4. ignorance of issues
5. guns and money (with malevolent intentions)
6. mob rule (similar to Gavin's argument)

This liquid democracy sounds like a movement similar to voluntaryism. All of these libertarian ideas sound neat, but are only theoretical, just as the US form of republican democracy was. I'm not against the seed of the idea, but the technology does not exist yet to make it viable. We need technology to overcome those six (and probably more) types of problems.

Having said this, the technologies we do have are useful to keep working towards something better. If we apply these tools scientifically and use the data wisely, we may discover patterns that even more powerful systems can use to make it work better. Human society is too complex for humans to handle alone. Our technology will eventually be able to help us identify these six problems before they become harmful.
5173  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: [ANN] Trezor: Bitcoin hardware wallet on: February 02, 2013, 05:55:45 AM
No matter what you think about me right now, I really wish you guys well. But I've seen really close guys who failed while trying to take the paternalistic way, starting with Trip Hawkins and 3DO. It is easy to score cheap demagoguery points like cbeast did, but you aren't going to win with them.

Again, good luck, no matter what you think about me right now.

Yes, I'm sure you would also want your personal belongings stored in a safe with the combination 1 2 3 4.

I was a big fan of EA in the early days. I was all for 3DO too, but instead went with Amiga. I lost a lot in that market though it had so much potential. Amiga users were far more fanatical and it was devastating what the company did to that technology. Bitcoin is very very different. There is no point of failure. The devices that are being experimented with are prototypes. Bitcoin development is still in its infancy, but even as an infant it is beyond the understanding of mere mortals. This Trezor device is to Bitcoin as the match is to fire. Wait until the flamethrower is invented.
5174  Other / Off-topic / Re: Physics nowadays is mind-blowing on: February 02, 2013, 01:42:33 AM
Even the computer prop is of better quality nowadays. That thing Scotty is using looks like a brick.
The mouse hasn't changed much since it was invented 50 years ago.
5175  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: [ANN] Trezor: Bitcoin hardware wallet on: February 02, 2013, 01:30:22 AM
Next version of bootloader will check digital signature of the firmware so Trezor won't accept unauthorized code. Without such feature devices may be tampered during the distribution to the customer...
I was expecting this announcement. So now we'll have to wait for a jailbreak for Trezor. We've seen the enemy and its us!

This is actualy a good lesson on how voluntary slavery is sold as safety and security.

slush & stick: please do the ethical thing: allow explicit signature override by a special combination of keypresses. You know, something similar to what EFF asks from Microsoft.

ARE WE MARRIED?Huh?

 Shocked

He's probably speaking as a US citizen and by "we" he means other citizens.
What he means are the children that will either be politely working to make you neighborhood a nice place to live, or shoving a gun in your face.
5177  Economy / Speculation / Re: Where do you think we are in the bubble? on: February 02, 2013, 12:59:40 AM
Oh, that bubble. Yes the viability of Bitcoin itself was in question as if the whole thing was a fad.
Heh. I'm glad people think that was a bubble. I am buying all the bitcoin I can as fast as I can, and will until I no longer need to.
5178  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Alex Jones does real issues (gun rights and anti-depressant drugs) a dis-service on: February 01, 2013, 08:45:33 PM
America has a new language evolving. Loud and extreme statements from political viewpoints create new terms that are really meaningless, but imply anecdotal weight to an opinion. It's gone way beyond Orwell's Double-Speak. Most people have no critical thinking skills and are filtered through a system poisoned by fanatic jingoism. The poison is injected by passive media sources and enforced by brainwashing people with talking points. Alex Jones is no different than Rachel Maddow in the way she passionately presents material. These pundits are talking about huge and important issues and are way over their heads when they presume to have history and sciences on their side. Social issues are always way more complex than anyone really grasps.

I like how Max Keiser is sucking up to Jones, not because he believes his nonsense, but Max recognizes the power Jones has over his audience. Keiser pretends to play that game, but he is too intelligent and empathic to take himself seriously when he goes off on his pundit rage-rants. I wish more pundits had his passion and self deprecation.

Open source provably fair gambling software is a great idea. In fact, it's one of the best ideas ever.

And it's not all I have planned Wink.
OK, I'll bite. If it's open source, then why not just tell us what it's about? Is it a front-end for the next generation of casino slot machines to sell to Indian casinos?
